  • B.O.M.B.S. at the Marsh! – from Shooter

YHC arrived to the Marsh seeing site Q Akbar sitting in the warmth of his car.. Not eager to exit any sooner than necessary into the low 30s weather, YHC followed his lead. It would prove to be short lived however as JV rolled up behind me and quickly exited.. We gathered at center court and the always reliable Waterpik emerged out of the darkness, however this gloom he exited a vehicle which is uncharacteristic as most post he runs to the AOs.. PAX chattered it up discussing the effects of Tanked ups beatdown from Saturday..

    Warmarama
Moseyed the block to start things off returning for all IC 15,16,17,18,19 and 20 consisting of SSH, Grass grabbers, Windmills, Arm circles, Imperial walkers and Butt kicks.. Another Mosey around the block..

    Thang
Partnered up at the picnic benches for Coyote Ugly… Believe the only one to complete the 5 count total with lagniappe was Waterpik. T👏🏼 to Waterpik as it proved more challenging to the YHC than expected..
Took to the playground for 4 rounds of reverse chin-ups of 5.. Once complete we recovered to the corner for B.O.M.B.S.. With a small modification of half Big boy sit-ups and half LBCs for the last B and time expiring on the squats PAX circled up at center court for count, announce and COT..

Appreciate you men braving the elements and T 👏🏼 to those PAX in the Midwest and Northwest who endure these harsh temperatures more frequently…

    Until the next Gloom 👍🏼👊🏼✌🏼!!!!

  • The Return!! – from Shooter

With the radar showing a brief window and our sky Q gracing us with the opportunity to get in the Scramble 3 PAX journeyed through the streets of Ole Mandeville.. The best part of this gloom would be the Return of Pelican.. After some chatter and catching up Waterpik arrives through the darkness and we get started..

    Warmup
10IC SSH, Imperial walkers, Hillbillies, Windmills, Butt kicks, Torso twists. Carioca across half the street and return and ended with lateral hops and grab’s down and back..

    Thang
Standard route stopping 3 times at Messina and Monroe for 5 burpee’s, 10 jump squats, 15 Merkins and 20 Mountain climbers 2x.. Returning to the shovel flag with 3 mins 20 OYO LBCs, 20 flutter kicks, 10 alternating left over right and right over left crunches and closing with 20 BB sit-ups…

    YHC closed in prayer…

Appreciate the post gentlemen and until the next Gloom 👍🏼👊🏼✌🏼!!!

  • “The cold made my wee wee go pee pee.” – from Akbar

Things you’ll only hear at Waffle house. This was said as a grown man walked through the door, and decided to tell YHC, Steve, and Russo what business he had to take care of – as if his inner child woke up at that opportune moment. YHC knew it was going to be cold, obviously everyone else knew as well. 5 Pax gathered this cold and gloomy morn. Grover EH’d a guy who fartsacked, but it was great having him in the gloom again. The plan was to get warmed up really quick.

Conditions: Cold, as mentioned above, with a slight wind.

Warm Up x 10 IC – High Knees, Butt Kicks, Self-Love, Cherry Pickers, Arm Circles F/B, IW

Playground: 11’s of Swerkins (plank position, legs in swing ab crunch/Merkin) and Pullups with 25ish yard run in between.

Mosey to the Lakefront by Rips down Noah’s Ark with a modified Red Barchetta to get the blood pumping. Stop at each intersection for 1 exercise until we reached the wall – 50 SSH, 40 Mountain Climbers, 30 LBC’s, 20 Merkins, and 10 Squats.

Wall x 20 IC, 2 sets. Freak Nasties and Shoulder Taps

Stairs at Rips to climb the Stairway to 7. Pax line up in plank, 1 at a time do: 1 Freak Nasty, 1 Dirkin on the bottom step; run up to the top for 1 Squat, run back down the other side. Rinse and Repeat adding 1 rep for 7 rounds. Pik reminded QIC of the time check and we only got to finish 6 rounds.

Run back to the Marsh in time for COT followed by breakfast at Waffle House.

Announcements: Krazy Ivan Feb 3rd 8pm. Run Cajun Run – get your teams together, sign up coming. Sponsors due by Jan 26th.

    NMM
We are told to always plan for more than we need in case time runs out. I had enough for another 30 minutes. I haven’t fully figured out how to work the new Garmin I got for Christmas, Pik saved me from going over. Great conversation as always, which continued as expected at Waffle House.

  • Deck of Death Part IV: A New Hope – from Russo

36 degrees greeted a Pax of 6 at Granny’s for the return of the deck of death: version 2022.1. This upgrade featured the “Animal activity pack”, with crowd favorites Monkey Humpers (you’re welcome Hogs Breath), Crab Cakes (just for you Jose!), Donkey Kicks, and Crunchy Frogs.

Warmup (all IC, varying reps, like a locker combination: to your RIGHT!)

    -Seal jacks
    -Cherry pickers
    -Imperial walkers
    -Grass grabbers
    -Self love
    -High knees

    Thang

Bench work with 20 freak nastys and 20 step ups, followed by 10 of both, and then 5 more.

After a quick mosey, Pax knocked out the Deck of Death (exercise and count based on value and suit of the card turned over from a standard deck of playing cards). YHC likes to split the deck into 4 groups to vary up the exercises, with some moseying before, during, and after.

Hearts – Monkey Humpers, Jump squats, SMCs, Nut Crackers
Diamonds – Diamond Merkins, Merkins, Peter Parkers, Shoulder Tap Merkins
Clubs – LBCs, Leg Raises, Crunchy Frogs, American Hammers
Spades – Crab Cakes, Donkey Kicks, Gas Pumps, Angels in the Outfield

    Mary
With about 5 minutes left, Pax completed some calf raises up the pilot house, 2 each step, a minute of plank, and a final 10 merkins.

COT, Name-o-Rama, announcements, and prayer closed us out.

Note the Crazy Ivan is coming up on 2/3 and HogsBreath and Pass interference are working on a Slidell AO. Keep checking Slack for more info.

Thank you all again for joining, letting me lead you all. As always, really enjoyed the mumble chatter.

And finally, the vote count, subject to independent verification next week, was 11 A’s and 7 T’s. And in case you’re wondering, I vote T.

  • New year same Scramble! – from Shooter

The first Scramble in 2022 produced familiar faces on a beautiful non humid gloom. YHC arrived to the sites of Hammer completing some pre stretches. After some brief chatter Zoolander came rolling in followed by Waterpik with his usual prethang miler or so before and after the Scramble..

Brief warmup of 20, 15 and 10 SSH, Imperial walkers, Merkins, Butt kicks, Squats, Lunges, Self love and Grass grabbers.

Moseyed in pairs for about 4 miles through the Hermitage and down West Beach to Lakeshore and back up to Monroe with another loop through Hermitage..

Arrived back right on time to close with count, announce and COT..

Appreciate Waterpik closing us out in 🙏🏼!!

    Until the next Gloom 👍🏼👊🏼✌🏼!!!

  • And that’s a wrap for 2021 – from Mobydick

Pax: Einstein Waterpick Hawgs Breath BBQ Jose 10K Ackbar Mobydick

A perfect December morning…if we were in Miami 72 degrees and a light breeze for a New Year’s Eve. Since YHC, Mobydick, is not a big fan of running Waterpik had to make do with a focus on Core and upper body. After a brief warmup with 20x Ic SSH Grass grabbers Self Love High Knees
The Thang began with a circle up. 10x Merkins. Staying on the deck pax flips on your sticks for 20x IC Leg Lifts.
Pax rolls to right and OYO 10x Diamond Merkins. OYS and 10x IC Hello Dollies

  • No Shoe Left Untied…No Cowbell Either? – from Bushwacker

It was great to be back out at the Scramble, especially on a crisp clear morning with Christmas carols in the air! As we began the warm up, a bright pair of head lights made the corner and what to our wondering eyes did appear but Zoolander arriving to spread Christmas cheer…but no Cowbell.

    WARMORAMA

    x10 IC:
SSH, High Knees, Imperial Walkers, Slow Squats, Windmills, Toe Touches

    THANG

It seems since Ida took out out the pier, there is no more “Regular” route, and Qs have been trying to be clever with various trajectories and tribulations for the PAX to suffer through. QIC was similarly inspired last night, but that inspiration was dashed by a wave of life and the Scramble was all the better for it. We went something like this: Messina to Monroe to W Beach to Lakshore to Coffee to Villere (through Pik Pass) back to Messina and returning to city hall. Along the way YHC had to stop to retie his shoe, it’s always this pair, always the right one. So I chose to keep a brisker pace in order to catch back up the the pack O’ scramblers each of the 5000 times it happened!

    MARY

7 minutes more, the better to kill the core! 100x OYO:
LBCs, 100s, Freddy Mercurys, Flutter Kicks, Roslitas

    COT
Count/name (still no Cowbell). Requesting special intentions for a friend, Bird reminded us that the holidays can be a hard time for some people. YHC took us out with a focus on the value we bring to each other, and the urging to share that value, in whatever form, to others we encounter.

As were were concluding our activities, Waterpick’s Dick Tracy watch went off alerting us all that Cowbell had gone straight to Liz’s Where Ya At to reserve a table for a lil coffeteria . What do ya know, Cowbell showed up after all!

  • 51 – from Akbar

Another year in the books as YHC turned 51, joined by 8 HIM who woke up early Monday morning – some after Sunday’s Nightmare Before Christmas. The theme was 51 on paper, 5 sets, 5 exercises 10 reps each, with the last exercise being a 10 second hold. Sometimes paper doesn’t translate in reality so there were some modifications.

Tunes accompanied courtesy of Grover’s Camp playlist.

Rd 1: Block press, shoulder taps, squat press, Alpo’s, 10 count mid-way hold.

Rd 2: Block row wide, block row narrow, supine row, renegade block row L, renegade block row R. 10 count hold.

Rd 3: Merkin, chest press wide, chest press narrow, right arm single block press, left arm single block press, 10 count hold.

Rd 4: Block curl wide, block curl narrow, forearm curl, left arm block curl, right arm clock curl ( the single arm curls did not happen). 10 count hold

Rd 5: Diamond merkin, overhead block extension wide, overhead block extension narrow. 10 second hold.

Mosey to the stop sign and back, circle up for Mary

    Squats x 20, Lunges x 20, LBC – leg raises, dolly x10

Count, Name-o-rama, and YHC prayed us out with thoughts of focusing on unselfishness this week and thanks for accountability.

Thanks for letting me lead, it’s always a blast.
    Akbar

  • No Bricks Were Harmed During This Beatdown – from Steve

Pax of 8 over at Granny’s yesterday morning, including a new face , Pass Interference. This guy Q’d his farewell Q on Thursday in Atlanta only to then move down to Pearl River over the weekend and post at Granny’s on Tuesday? Huh. Impressive. Also impressive are Granny’s numbers lately. It’s hard to say exactly, what with the lack of backblasts and all (I don’t wanna hear it, Akbar!), but YHC would say it’s been 7 pax or more for over two months. What caused this sudden resurgence? Russo’s number-themed beatdowns? Or maybe Zoolander’s continued efforts to grow the pax finally paying off? Or maybe it’s Granny’s recent facelift? (She’s all dolled up with Christmas lights these days and has a new splashpad – which feels like two years in the making and hardly looks different.) Who knows, but regardless, it’s great having a bigger group out there.

    Anyhow. The beatdown.

Warmorama: SSH, good mornings, IWs, hillbillies, arm circles, windmills, seal jacks, 10x IC. Usually I stretch this out in anticipation of a Cowbell – arriving in Cowbell time – but no need to today. He clipped the curb coming in five minutes EARLY.

    Thang:
Started off making the block, stopping twice to do 10x kraken burpees.

Then onto an incredibly well-organized circuit including “shit brick sliders,” which a visiting pax (from Birmingham?) brought down to us a few years back. The man on the sliders would be a timer, taking two bricks and sliding them down the trace in a bear crawl-like position until he made it through the tunnel of lights. Run the bricks back, and the everyone rotates. Clockwise. Or counter clockwise. Doesn’t matter, Akbar is gonna do what Akbar wants to do when it’s this early in the morning. The other stations might have been:

    Lunges
    Leg raises
    Merkins
    Freak Nasties
    Situps
    Jump squats
    Suicides

Unbelievably, the bricks survived (Pik took it easy this morning). But we did leave some red chalky streaks down the trace that give a little horror vibe to all of the otherwise festive decorations at the trailhead. Anyway, after everyone got a taste with the bricks, we Lt Dan-ned our way down the trace until we reached the bus depot, where we stopped for one final set of 10x kraken burpees.

Two minutes to spare for a rapid fire set of leg raises, dollies, rosalitas, lbcs, and freddies.

COT where we informed Pass Interference of the upcoming Braveheart screening, Mathlete Q, and Nightmare Before Christmas. Pik prayed us out. Thank you men for the post and the push, it’s always a pleasure.
