  • “Modify only if you need to, not cause you want to”

“Success isn’t always about ‘greatness’.  It’s about consistency.  Consistent hard work gains success.  Greatness will come.”   -Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson

Another fine Saturday at the Muscleship on 6/22.  Fifteen PAX trickled in to start the day off right and get their sweaty fix.  With the Memorial Day Murph a few weeks prior, YHC felt many/all of us could some help improving our pull ups, so that would be our focus of the day….upper body, grip strength, arms, core, back, etc.  Here’s what we did:

Warmup in front of NOMA with SSH x20, IWx20, WM x10, Bird Dog x20, Glute Bridge x20, 60 Sec AC (R T-plank AC , LBC, L T-plank AC, Merkins) x15ea

Mosey toward the Refinery with a pit stop for:  plank, Merkins x10, plank, Merkins x5

The Refinery – 6 station circuit w/Tabata timer, all out for 40sec, 12 sec rest/rotate       “Modify only if you need to, not cause you want to”         Round 1 – Pullups, Squats, Body Rows, Block Curls, Bench Dips, Glute Bridge aka Wife Pleasers         Round 2 – Rinse and repeat        Break for a breather and some motivational experts compliments of Google and The Rock         Round 3 – Dead Hang, Squats, Dips/Dip Hold, Block Curls, Inc Merkin, Glute Bridge        Round 4 – Rinse and repeat

Mosey back towards base where we crossed paths with The Muscleship Pax. Made another pit stop on the curb for:  Plank, Plank Jacks, & Merkins

Next up was a mosey to the edge of the new sculpture garden expansion where we found the finest grass City Park has to offer for: Planking and Bird Dogs

Then back to the NOMA lawn for some back and core work:  Indian Bear Crawl,  LBC, Flutter Kicks, IBC, Lunge Walk, Bear Crawls

COT to seal the deal.  Welcome FNG Snowbird who was EH’d by Gatsby.

Always great to lead and always great to grind through another F3 workout.  Sorry for the delayed backblast.

    Last Mothership of 2018

With the end of the year approaching I wanted to finish the year strong with a good beat down at the Mothership. This would be my 150th workout of the year. Having started F3 on Feb. 2nd at WPM, I have come a long way, and all for the better. At 6:30 the the disclaimer was given and we moseyed to the Peristyle.

    • Incline Merkins x 15
    • Line up for Indian Run to the “Rocks” – When “6” gets to front of line we halt and he calls out an exercise and did 5 reps, then continued run.

Thang 2 – 11’s with the Rock – We found where Mahatma and Tool had stashed the blocks, and eached grabbed one. YHC was not sure where this was going to happen, but figured we could find a semi dry spot – Not the case, and as we began the sky tried to open up on us, but just briefly.

    • The 2 exercise where Squat Thrusters with the Blocks and Offset Merkins on the Block(2 is 1). Started with 10 Thrusters and 1 Merkin and proceeded to 1 Thruster and 10 Merkins. In the middle we did 11 Curls when going one direction and 11 Tricep Extension when coming from the opposite direction. The usual Mumblechatter ensued, like no one has ever done 11’s before…Let’s GO!
    • With time getting tight we finished the 11’s and returned our blocks to their home and moseyed to the Great Lawn.

Thang 3 – Circle up for some Mary – The Great Lawn was soaked and trying to stay somewhat dry YHC opted for the Brick area where FIA warms up. which garnered plenty of mumblechatter.

    • LBC’s x 20
    • Dying Cockroach x 20
    • I had more but it was 7:30 so we moseyed back to the flag.

COT – Circle up for Count-o-Rama, Name-o-Rama Two FNG’s – Both are ILoveYouMan’s Business Partners (they make Adult Beverages and Icees in pouches you freeze) – Antonio(ILoveYouMans, Brother) is Jesus Juice and Craig is Screw Top(He’s their tight, accounting guy). Welcome Both! Hope to see them again soon! Announcements for Crazy Ivan Jan 19th.

With the New Year approaching, take these last few days of the year to set some goals for next year for your Life, Job, F3 and shoot for the moon. Write them down, make sure they are measurable, and have milestones through out the year to maintain focus. Not everyone is aware, but there is a tab in the Q Sign up Sheet called NYR2018 to track your workouts. I will make sure we have one for New Year Resolutions 2019. Keep track and compete with your brothers in F3. Thanks again for pushing and motivating me through 150 beatdowns this year. HAPPY NEW YEAR!!

All PAX lined up with rocks at their feet – Pax on far end pass his rock down the line (initial thought he would run to end of the line to receive rock and the process of passing rocks would continue as next Pax would have already passed their rock and run to the end of the line so Indian Style objective was to be moving all rocks towards the rock pile, again this needs some work but we did achieve the goal – ALL rocks returned.

  • Track to the Foundry

YHC arrived at the Foundry AO a few minutes early, allowing for a sincere welcome to each Pax as they arrived.  One never knows how many will post at the Foundry, some weeks it’s a few, others it’s a pack.  This day we had 11 total, which is a great number.  0530 hit, time for the disclaimer.  During the disclaimer, YHC revisited the term “Whiskey Dicking”, which is basically the act of not doing something because it’s too hard.  The disclaimer is to modify to prevent injury, while pushing yourself beyond what you thought you could do.  YHC doesn’t see Whiskey Dicking as an issue in our ranks, but it is fun to say!  Give it a try!

Mosey to the track warm up area for the warm up

    NMM

Thibodaux is back in town and has been posting at numerous AO’s. We always enjoy seeing him, and look forward to his next visit. On Saturday he is headed back to Shanghai, and we wish him a safe journey.
YHC looked back to find when the term Whiskey Dicking (verb) was first used in F3 Nola.  On 27 April, 2016, Tool led the beatdown at the Birdcage, and encouraging everyone to give 100%, he tossed out the term from the lexicon defined as “Half stepping through a workout or other event.  More generally, execution of anything without sufficient zeal.”  Well said!

Great looking group at the Foundry! Thanks for posting with me today!

  • Stomp #150 – Faster and Stronger Together

If everyone is moving forward together, then success takes care of itself.” – Henry Ford

Before most people rolled out of bed this morning, 15 men got faster and stronger by posting at the The Stomp, a F3 running workout that meets every Tuesday in City Park, with this week being our 150th beatdown.  Some might ask, why would a bunch of guys drive from their homes to another location to simply run and maybe crank out a few body weight exercises?  Surely that can be done by walking out your front door and moseying down your street.  Burpees and core work can be done anywhere, right?   No need to get in a car and drive to do that, right?  Well for many of us, meeting up as a group, when possible, to do these things seems to help in several ways.  If you’re reading this, you probably grasp this already and routinely post at F3 workouts to push yourself, push others, break the boredom, and try exercise routines you may not normally do on your own.  Plus you get to heckle the usual suspects, rib on Hawg for always being late, as well as enjoy the 2nd F and 3rd F in the process.  For YHC, the Tuesday Stomp has been one I rarely miss since I know I’ll probably run further and/or faster that I would solo.  It also makes me put my running shoes on at 5:10 instead of 20-30-40min later and squeezing in a quick, lazy run before work.  For those that enjoy running and haven’t posted on Tuesdays, I suggest you put it on your radar.

As the PAX trickled in, cool to see some a few more guys than usual.  Hopefully they weren’t expecting YHC to have some elaborate plan in store.  As go time came near, the plan was to run the Bayou route, 20 min out and 20 min back, but with a little twist…to try to start as a group and finish as a group.  Therefore we formed two lines for an Indian Run to the museum, then keep going at your own pace toward the bayou.  Once back at the flag, turn around and run back to sweep the six in an effort to finish as a group.  The IR went well with a 8:40 pace which is probably faster than most of us would have started with…t-claps to the PAX for pushing hard.  T-claps to Hawg for catching up to us despite being tardy, again.  Total distance covered varied from approx 3-5 miles.

Once back, we had 4 minutes for the finale, or “sealing the deal”.  Since BURPEES were part of the original 610 Stomp, it was only fitting to work some in.  We partnered up for a burpee/plank countdown.  PAX 1 knocked out 10 burpees, while PAX 2 held a low plank.  Flip flop, then a round of 9 burpees, then 8,…with time running out around the 7-8 mark for most.  T-claps to Cowbell for demonstrating his new plank form with knees touching the ground…you get a pass since you helped lead the running pack.

COT to cap things off.  YHC intended to bring up some cool pep-talk like stuff regarding the 150th Stomp milestone, however the run and burpees brought on a sweaty buzz.  Announcements include lots of races and events coming up so check your email or GroupMe if interested.

Thanks for the opportunity to lead.
