  • Fire Mountain

The skies decided to open up in the middle of the night before the workout, which somehow always seems to always happen before YHC is scheduled to Q.  The flooded conditions at the AO required some audibles and detours to get through the workout, but we made it through (somewhat) unscathed.  After a quick disclaimer, we moseyed over to the 9th hole tee box for a warmup (all in cadence): SSH x25, IW x25, LSS x20, Mountain climbers x25, Merkins x10.

We then zig-zagged through the water to the field with the soccer goal for four corners.  We did a different workout at each corner with a sprint through the mud in between:

    • Squat jumps x25
    • Lunges x20
    • Monkey humpers x15
    • Burpees x10

Mosey from there to the Fly and circle up at the base of the Mountain:  Hello Dolly x25 (IC), hold it, 90, 45, 6 in., 45, 90, Rosalitas x25 (IC).  After a ten count, we did 11s on the two sides of the Mountain, starting with 1 wide merkin on the near side and 10 diamond merks on the far side.  We all got hit bad by fire ants during 11s.  Need to remember to avoid the Moutain next time it rains.

Short on time, we headed back to the invisible flag for the court, name-o-rama, and prayer.

  • Don’t Bring Me Down

With our scheduled Q Tinkles still on the mend, YHC decided to repeat most of Saturday’s workout.

A brief disclaimer then we moseyed to the lights for the first COP:

    SSH x20, MC X20, IW x15, PP x20, Hillbillies x20, Parker Peter x20 & Seal Jacks x20

After the warm-up we lined up at the wooden stakes for a burpee light run:

One burpee at the first light, two burpees at the second, etc. then we finished with five back at the stakes for a total of 20.

    Water break then another COP:

Plank MC x20, Squats x20, Plank PP x20, Squat Jumps x10, Lunge Climbers x10

Another round of burpees at the lights (20) then another water break. T-Claps to El Wire for setting the pace during both rounds (under 4 minutes).

At the benches by the pond:

    RLSU x25, Dips x20,  LLSU x25, Declining Parker Peter x15, Derkins x8, Right Leg-up x10, Left Leg-Up x10

    Back for another COP:

LBC x25, Dolly Ups x16, Putins x20, Flutter Kicks x15, Dying Cockroach x20, Real Freddie Ms x20.

    Back to the Benches:

Bulgarian Split Lunge L x12, Incline Merkin Left Leg Up x12, BSLR x12, IMRLU x12

Finally, a three minute plank-o-rama at the flag:

Plank Walk x10, Right Arm Up, Left Arm Up, Elbow Plank, One Arm Elbow left then right and finished with MI for 15 seconds

Count off, Name-o-rama including the longest naming session for the FNG Bruce (Jender Catamount Kardashian is still available for the next FNG) then an extremely short prayer.

Thanks for the good work. No time for stretching and yoga today…

  • Getting in 9 holes the hard way

In the spirit of 40 something year olds winning and finishing second in the Open, I had the privilege to lead a crowd of 30 and 40 somethings (no “Hate” and no “Respect” this morning.)  Also they have blocked off part of the running track at Audubon so we improvised.

Started with a PAX of 10, RY showed up at the first to bring us to 11.

    Mosey to the Grandstand

COP#1 SSH x 20, Mountain Climbers x20, Jump ups x 20, pool outs x 20 (done while standing pushing yourself up on a platform at chest height to resemble getting out of the pool)

Mosey to the golf course where we “played 9” in a somewhat random order

Hole 7- Sprint the length of the Par 3.  3 Burpees and 20 Merkins

Hole 8- SSH the length of the Par 4. 4 Burpees and 20 Squat jumps

Hole 9- Side step left x 10 then right x 10 and repeat for length of par 4.  4 Burpees and 20 Russian twists

Indian Run to hole 10.  To celebrate our 5 under score we did 5 burpees.

Hole 10- Indian Run to end of par 5. 5 Burpees, 10 Diamond Merkins, 10 staggered arm merkins (5 each arm)

Hole 11- Sprint the length of the par 3. 3 Burpees, 20 lunges

Hole 12- Bear crawl then mosey the Par 4. 4 Burpees 20 LBC’s.

Hole 13- Backwards run the par 3. 3 Burpees, 20 Dips.

Hole 18- Indian run the par 5. 5 burpees, 20 lateral jumps

Hole 5- Sprint to the end of par 4. (El-Wire took the win).  4 Burpees and 20 Hello Dollys

Mosey back to the missing flag.  Count off, Name-o-rama. FNG (he is an architect and Constanza was taken so he gets to be Vandalay even though that was in import-export business.) Prayer for understanding and friends in uniforms. Announcements and off for Coffee.  Yankee says we finished with 2.28 miles. (I had sore arms as well)

  • Queue the Ring of Fire

OK Fellas – We showed up to the Flag for another humid beatdown in the Gloom. We ran a full 2.02 miles. 12 PAX for a dozen ready to get stronger. I pointed out to Landing Strip that I thought of him last night. The M and I were watching Friday Night Lights and the name of the Gentleman’s club in it is called the Landing Strip. Douille was also pointed out the desperate need for a re-pave on the track. That is going to mess with our Mondays for awhile.

We ran a .25 mile jog to the PIMP station. The whole track was fenced in so we were stuck on the track until the PIMP station.

At the PIMP station we did our first COP/warm up.
    SSH x 20, Imp Walker Squats x 20, Slow Merks x 15, and SLow LBCs x 20

Then we used the gear to do a modified PIMP.
Pull up AMRAP, Squats AMRAP, Dips AMRAP and Burpees x 10. Burpees held the count.
Seaman showed up – a little late – but he made it just in time for the beatdown here.

Then we left for an indian run about . 5 miles.

We circled up for some MARY early in the workout. I jsut wanted to get it in and we had the good soft grass by the golf course.
Pylo Plank x 10 each side. Wife Pleasers x 20 in the gloom. (Not in broad daylight like the guys on the Northshore). I made them slow wife pleasers so you had to hold your hips up. Then we did some side crunches/curls to work the obliques. x 20 each side. We did leg lifts x 20, and finally we did opposite arm and leg extentions x 20. I don’t know what that is called. We just did it.
From there golf course water fountain – we ran as fast as you can .25 miles to the Fountain and Benches at the front of the park.
Here we did x20 power leg lifts each leg. We also did 20 hip slappers, and 20 Dips.

At this point – we marveled at all the gear that the 2 guys had near the box jump stuff. Then we did an indian run about .33 of a mile.

Then we broke off for a quick RING OF FIRE that I stole from the Northshore. Wave of Merkins slow count. x 13 Then sideways bear crawl to the right. Wave of Merkins slow count x 13. Then sideways bear crawl to the left. Wave of Merkins slow count x 13. 1 each and plank the rest of the time.

Then we ran to the Flag. On the run – we jogged 3 of the markers then sprinted 2 of the markers. Repeated that until we got to the finish line.

We closed with a COT. Prayers for the tension and unrest regarding race in our country and for the families of everyone involved.

Tclaps to Bartman for his extra credit pullups.
Gnarly Nutria is this Wednesday night.

Thanks for the opportunity to Q.
    Reluctant Yankee

  • 4 on the 4th

“We have a strong instinct to belong to small groups defined by clear purpose and understanding–tribes. This tribal connection has been largely lost in modern society, but regaining it may be the key to our psychological survival.” – Sebastian Junger

Four PAX including YHC showed up for The Skinny 4th of July Celebration. T-claps to Out for Justice (aka Under Siege 2) for his 1st post in Audubon.

Mosey to the Tomato field: SSH x20, MC x20, IW x20, Peter Parker x20

Mosey to levee for Elevens – alternate Half-Burpees & Merkins. Nip/Tuck recommended jumping but it was all ground work at this point.

Mosey to soccer field by the hill. Found a nice orange cone to use after this COP:

    Lunge Climbers x20 (right name?), V-ups x20, Slow Merkins x10, Squat-to-Squat Jumps x16

Mosey over the hill and plank for a battlefield exercise: sprint over the hill to field then drop and Boo Boo Bear Crawl-Left Leg to the orange cone. Due to the distance YHC modified to switch legs (and back if needed) halfway to the cone.

COP by the cone: Plank position MC x20, Plank Walk x10, Plank position Peter Parkers x20

Mosey down the levee to the road.

COP: Plank, elbow plank, One arm elbow planks: British Aggressors then Patriotic Gentlemen

Mosey to the labyrinth: 10 burpees OYO, LBCx20, Dying Cockroach x20 and Flutter Kicks x15

Back to the flag for count off, name-o-rama and prayer.

Thoughts and prayers for Nip/Tucks’ father-in-law and my father-in-law both battling cancer. Also for all of our troops abroad and struggles they face returning home – referenced Sebastian Junger’s new book: Tribe: On Homecoming and Belonging

  • Half-Burpee Supreme

Eleven men gathered in the still, humid and of course hot gloom of ole Audubon.  At precisely 5:31, allowing for Yankee’s obligatory tardiness, we moseyed to the bandstand for the start of a non-traditional Monday workout:

First COP: SSH x25, Mountain Climbers x20, Elbow Mountain Climbers x15 (a bit tougher than standard), Swing-through lunges Right leg then Left (YHC needs to figure out the cadence), Peter Parker x20, Elbow Peter Parker x15, Squat to Squat Jumps x20

Mosey to the bench behind the bandstand: Dips x15, Dying Cockroach on bench x20,  Bulgarian Split Lunges Left x15, Right x15

Mosey to the track: Run to each light for the Half-Burpee-Plank-Jack-Merkin-Supreme, 5x each light, 25 total. After ten of these it seemed like a bad idea but thankfully everyone finished with a positive attitude asking what’s next…way to go PAX.

After a brief water break and a count off by C-man or (C-Men, thanks Cav) , we moseyed back to the bench: RLSU x20, Incline Merk Right leg up x10, LLSU x20, IM Left leg up x10

Back to the lights: Half-Burpee-Crossfit-Merkin x5 each light, 25 total. Thanks to Bad Moon for suggesting increasing the count each light but 25 seemed to be more than enough for today.

Now longing for the traditional Monday track run, we moseyed to the soccer goal near the zoo. Two groups: one group holds on the bar (The Bernie) and the other does Double Burpees (two merks and two jumps) five times then switch.

Moseyed to our last COP across the field from the Tomatoes:  LBCs x20, Legs Ups x15 (bad cadence again), Russian Twist x15, One Arm Planks – Northern Aggressors then Southern Gentlemen and finished with the plank walk x15.

Mosyed back to the flag for count, name-o-rama and prayer:  Gave thanks for the health to continue F3 each day and to continue to form good habits. Asked for strength for Root’s friend and his family who are dealing with their son’s suicide and guidance to all who have lost their sense of belonging.

Thanks to all for starting off the week right…more fun next Monday.

  • Around the Fly

Leading my VeryfirstQ enabled me to get out to Audubon earlier than ever before – approximately 05:20. My Weather Channel app indicates that the humidity was higher than the temperature – 87% vs. 81°, which is hard to believe, because it sure felt hot.

    We warmed up in place:

    40 x side straddle hops

    30 x low slow squats

    20 x mountain climbers

Then we moseyed – around the track, across Magazine Street, past the entrance to the Zoo, over the train tracks, along the road next to the river, and up to the top of an unnamed hill. A PAX wondered aloud what the tallest peak in New Orleans was – the answer is Monkey Hill, which isn’t much higher than the bump we stood atop.

We started with a burpee, then traversed down the hill and back: 1st time we bear crawled 2nd time we crab walked 3rd time we ran down and felt-the-Bern back up, the number of burpees increasing with each trek. Rinse/repeat.

Then we moseyed along the levee, behind the baseball complex to a barricade with 4 stanchions. We broke into 4 groups – one per post. The first group sprinted a ways down the levee and back while the other 3 worked. Then the next, and then the 3rd, and then the 4th. Then each group rotated and did it again.

    Exercises:

Mosey. We ran to the labyrinth and focused on abs:

    20 x LBCs

    20 x Hello Dollys

    15 x Russian Twists

    20 x Penguins

Planked for a bit, then moseyed on home for COT – Numberama / Nameorama / Prayer.

Glad to get my first Q under my belt. It won’t be my last.

  • Down and Dirty at the Skinny

Twelve men arrived in the gloom completely unprepared for the hazards that would await them at the Skinny.   After listening to Woop proudly explain the origin of his F3 name, the PAX took off counterclockwise down the jogging path.

Stopping right in the middle of some stickers sharp as razor blades, we started with a quick warm-up COP:

    • SSHx30
    • IWx25
    • Plank Jacks x25
    • LSSx25

Mosey from there to the row bars for two sets of:

    • Burpees x10
    • Rows x20
    • Lunges x30

Captain Morgan somehow burpee’d himself right into a fresh landmine from one of our canine friends, leaving the rest of us to quickly ponder some potential new F3 names to memorialize the occasion.  Obviously inspired by the presence of “Tinkles” and “Woop” as part of today’s PAX, the naming suggestions were appropriately wholesome and sophisticated.

From the row bars, we commenced an Indian Run and then pulled over for Wave of Merkins after about .5 miles.  We started at 1 merkin and worked our way up to 8 while holding plank in between. The PAX then continued the Indian Run all the way around the track with three more stops along the way:

    • At the benches by the fountain:
      • Dips x20
      • Side Step Up (l) x20
      • Side Step Up (r) x20
      • Incline Merkins x20
    • At the clearing behind hole 15:
      • Dying Cockroach x25
      • Hello Dolly x25
      • LBCs x25
      • Peter Parker x25
      • Flutter Kicks x25
    •  Past the pull-up bars:
      • Plank-o-rama, including 5x hip dips in cadence on each side

Finally, we wrapped up with the count, name-o-rama, and prayer.

    -Mulligan

  • CACL- Cardio arms core legs

Nice post Jazz Fest soggy morning full of receding gloom.  Moderate amount of fartsacking today (Captain Morgan and others.)  Left us with a PAX of 9.  Good quorum for getting it done.  Good transitions kept the HR up and let us get 6 COP of 4 exercises each done.  Each set had one cardio, one arms, one core and one legs.  Seems like a good mix.

    Mosey to the grandstand

    COP 1-  SSH x 20, Durkin x 20, Mountain Climbers x 20, Jump up x 20.

Mosey to the row bar past the puddles.

    COP 2- Burpee x 10, Row x 20, Russian Twist x 20, lunges x 20

Indian run to lit spot near the curve on the right.

    COP 3- Burpees x 10, Jack Webb sets of 5 x 4, V-upx20, squat jump x 20

    Indian run to the fountain

    COP 4- Plank jacks x20, Dips x20, Hello Dolly x 20, Side step ups x 20,

Indian run to the grassy area by the green on the left.

    COP 5- Burpees x 10, Mission impossible x 10, LBC x20, Mission Impossible x 10,squat jacks x20, Mission Impossible x 10

Indian Run to the Pull up bar

    COP 6- Burpees x 10, Pull ups x 20 sec, flutter kicks x 20,  Lateral jumps x 20 sec,

Indian run to the flag with some Hallelujah every other painted man on the track

Countdown, name-o-rams, announcements, prayer and off to work
