  • Joyful June 21st at The View – from Rudy

Short detour as I got lost on my way to The View (but at least now I know how to get to Westward Ho for a future visit). But fortunately, I’d left my house early enough just to cover that possibility. At 5:29, YHC and the Old View Reliables (and yes, I mean Old) started off in the humid gloom (though I will say – the weather on the other side of the levee was delightful!)

Grab a cinderblock and rifle carry to the top of the levee, our home for the next 45 minutes.

Warmup with some stretching, SSH, IW, etc… Then lets get started

6/21 – Happy June 21st. 6 Burpee variants at top of the levee, then carry the coupon down to the bottom for 21 reps. 3 rounds, each with 3 sets. Burpees/Curls, 8-Counts/Rows and ManMakers/Chest Presses.

Partner up: 1 pax take the 2 cinder blocks for a farmer carry down the levee and back up, while the partner does burpees. Repeat x3.

Now for something new: YHC has been seeing PT for hip problem. Apparently, YHC has the worlds weakest right Gluteus Medius. That’s led to lots of homework for YHC with Gluteus Activationus. Lets try it out with some PAX.

Bridges: Heels only (toes let the Quads do some of the work). Shake your hammies to make sure they lose (don’t want them doing the work). PINCH those Glutes. That’s it. Hold it. Hold it. ACTIVATING GLUTES. Then rest. Then Up again. Repeat x8 – each hold for around 10 seconds. Then with the glutes sufficiently activated, lets try some sllllooooow squat, holding at the the bottom. AND FOCUS ON FORM. Sit, don’t lean. Hold the core tight. Let the glutes do the work. Then lets do a lunge walk for a bit. Then some more squats. Don’t know about the other PAX, but my butt muscles were feeling it. (and on the positive side – hip pain has decreased greatly in the 4 weeks that I’ve been doing this…)

Rifle carry coupons back down, and circle up for a final round of LBCs at the flag.

Count-off/name-o-rama for 4 geriatric PAX (Hate for the youngster of the group, Frac, at a child-like 51…). Prayers – especially for my Mom who is still trying to adjust to life on her own. Father’s Day was a tough day for her yesterday. Thanks for the kind words, guys!

  • It’s a Joy to Q The View – from Gabrielle

On a crisp Monday morning, YHC got into his vehicle for the journey to the Far West. YHC’s passport appropriately stamped and Google maps initiated the feeling was good for a strong beatdown. At meeting spot, 3 PAX awaited. Uh Oh, YHC forgot his phone at home and he couldn’t phone home because he didn’t have a phone…What to do as a playlist had been made and tabata had been downloaded…Never fear, Frac is here to save the day! Quickly tethered my Wonderboom to Frac’s phone, disclaimer and Pax grab your block and farmer’s carry over the levee to other side for:

  • Respect, Respect

Today’s Q goal was to get a good full body workout and to keep moving. 13 PAX showed up for the beat down.

At 0530 the warm up began.

Smurf jacks, Peter Parker’s, Froggies, Parker Peter’s, Don Quixote, Arms circles

The Thang: 45 secs per exercise, 10 second rest between each.

Prisoner squat, Jack knife, Hand release pushups, Carolina dry docks, Wife pleasers, Jump Squats, American hammer, Dive bomber pushups, Alternating plank toe touch,

After completing these workouts for two round we moseyed to the wall for some “line of fire.” First, at the wall, we did Rocky Balboa for a little extra warm up. For the “line of fire” the PAX did a wall sit, while each Pax down the line did 10 donkey kicks. Next round was wall sits, donkey kicks, then they held the high plank. Next, they held the high plank and did shoulder taps. Lastly they held the high plank and did Peter Parker’s. With 3 minutes remaining more Rocky Balboa were due.

We closed with good spirits and a COT.

Was really impressed with everyone and their times. FracSack rocked it. Looking forward to week 1.

The cinder block coupons staged at the AO are great. YHC wasn’t going to add the coupons, but glad the sudden change was made. Besides, the pax were overJoyed when YHC called out to grab one.

Door Dash hates running, but the guy is a beast when it comes to burpees and manmakers.

The decision to quadraphilia up the steep side of the levee was instantly regretted….it was awesome!

YHC has Q’d 3 out of the last 4 days. I think I’m officially back, not back to where I was, but back nonetheless……it’s a work in progress.

The Joy on Mondays at the View is officially an Iron Pax Challenge location during September.

Thanks to all for the support and prayers over the last several months. You guys are awesome, and I’m blessed to be a part of F3.
