  • Douille or Do We Q in Cadence? or !

Pre-Thang: Seven Pax showed up at the Monkey Cage for YHC’s often erratic VQ.

The Thang: Mosey out to far end of the park towards the levee for a little COP. Yankee had fun clearing the spider webs on the way. Rough start for YHC with the cadence but the Pax were extremely supportive during the VQ.

    IC: SSH x 25, Imperial Walkers x 25, Plank Jacks x 20, Mountain Climbers x 20, T-Merkins (Tulane Tumblr) x 5

Mosey over to the statue in front of the zoo. Yuengling added a little fuel to the unpredictable cadence by taking a few head dives into the bushes next to YHC.  Nineteen is good, right?

IC: LF Step Up x 19, Incline Merkin x19, RF Step Up x19, Low Slow Dips x 12

Mosey over to the fly for an escalator at the levee. Thanks to (#Tclaps) Roots for the coaching and encouragement on the way to levee.

    Escalator 3x

Merkins x 10 bottom of levee

Bear crawl to top of levee

Squats x 20 top of levee

Backpedal to trees by the road

    LBC x 30

Sprint back to bottom of levee, plank when complete

Ten count by Tool then mosey over to the soccer field after scaling the mound. Hawgcycle surprisingly found us circling up for Mary.  I still can’t believe he found us!

Before Mary, Sudden Change – Burpees X 10   Tool tried to call BS which is like thank you in F3 lingo right?

IC: Real Freddie Mercury x 20 (reverse halfway through), LBT x 25, Flutter Kicks x 15, Russian Twist x 15

Indian run back to statue by zoo. Thanks to Yankee for reminding YHC about #1 rule, no man left behind.

Plank up for the 6 then IC: Decline Mekins x 15, Dips x 10.

Back to the flag at your own pace. Good job Hawg pushing it back with YHC.

Name-O-Rama: Finished with 8. Thanks to all Pax by YHC for the somewhat shaky VQ.

Prayers: Strength & Wisdom to the doctors around the country working to cure cancer: http://killingcancer.vice.com/

  • Be Aggressive B-E Aggressive

10 souls braved the NOLA humidity this morning for a #Birdcage Beatdown.  YHC took a page from Side Effect’s City Park Qs and tried to get everyone’s heart rate up and at ‘em with what the #mumblechatter referred to as an “aggressive warm-up.”  This was my first time to Q at the #Birdcage and it was a pleasure.  Each COP was a shout out to someone that has Q’d before me – Roots, Side Effects, Yankee, Rev, Awesome, My Grandpa Buster…

    The Thang

    • Start out by running the Root’s loop around the Club House parking lot.
    • Stop at a patch of grass for near the bandstand and partner up for the Warm up COP: Cycle through the BLIMPS exercises (Burpees, Lunges, Imperial Walkers, Merkins, Plank Jacks, Squats) – one partner does the prescribed exercise while the other runs to the bandstand goes up and over to the other side and the up and over to come back.  Flap Jack and finish when all of the exercises are complete.
    • Head to the lights for an Ark Loader: Boo-Boo Bear Crawl left leg and then right leg, regular bear crawl, crab walk, spider man walk, forward facing crab walk, Buster’s Bunny Hop (crab walk position and hop forward while slappin yo bum with alternating hands)
    • Mosey to Soccer goal and partner up for Peek-a-Boo Burpee Hangs. One partner hangs from goal with arms at 90 degrees while other does 4 burpees.  Flap jack and repeato with 3, 2, 1, burpees.
    • YHC wanted to go to the river levee for some Chevy to the levee, but knew we wouldn’t have time, so we went to the levee by the zoo for 11s. Merkins at the bottom and Burpees at the top.  T-Claps to Awesome for making it through the complete exercise.  The rest of us got to the round of 7 or 8 burpees before time ran out of us.
    • Mosey back to the flag.

    Moleskin

T-claps to Awesome and Douille for killing it today.  They set a good pace for the rest of us to follow.  I enjoyed my first Q at #TheBirdcage.  It is a fun AO.  T-Claps to Yuengling for leading by example and knocking out the extra credit pull-ups.

    Shout Out

Thanks to God for our health and blessings.  We prayed for our eyes and hearts to be open to those in need around us and for the wisdom to lead where we are called to lead.

Pre-Thang:  Ten PAX showed up in the not so gloomy gloom and YHC took them on a fun filled odyssey around the park…

The Thang:  Mosey out and around past the golf clubhouse and over to the festival of lights:  Lunge Walk to first light.  Bear Crawl to second light.  Lunge Walk to third light.  Bear Crawl to fourth light and plank up.  Plank walks x 15 IC.

Mosey toward front of park.  After 1/4 mile or so, Sudden Change was upon us! 10 quick Burpees.  Continue the mosey and pull over at Prytania Street for a push-o-rama:  Merkins x 15, Larry Craigs x 15.  Took a break with Low Slow Squats x 10.  Diamonds x 10 and Chuck Norris x 8.  All in cadence.

Continue the mosey another 1/4 mile and stumbled onto more Sudden Change. Burpees x 10.  On to the fountain benches.  Incline Merkins x 15, Low Slow Squats x 10 and Dips x 20.  All in cadence.

Mosey just a few hundred yards and low and behold had to overcome more Sudden Change.  Burpees x 10.  On to the site of the old club house for 6 Minutes of Mary:  LBC, Dolly, LBT, Flutter x 20 IC.

Line up for Indian Run back to the flag.  At the flag finished with a 3 minute plank off.

COT with shout out by YHC.

TClaps to the PAX for a strong showing all around while covering 2.25 miles.  Nice work!

  • Another chevy to the levee

8 Pax including an FNG were ready to roll at 8AM for a hot and humid sauna fest at the Birdcage this AM.  Where were you?

The Pax huddled around the flag and broke out of the gates to the right.

    Warm UP

A few side hops on the way to the first Circle of Pain.

COP1 – SSH x 30, Merks x 15, Peter Parkers x 25, and Low Slow Squats x 20 **In Cadence – My first Q in a few weeks – rough start but I finally got the hang of it again.

Then we mosey’d to the LEVEE.  A little complicated on my instructions but here is the THANG:

    The THANG:

Chevy to the Levee:  Run over the levee and do 30 Parker Peters, then run back to the bike path and do 10 dying cockroaches.  Then decrease the Parkers by 2 until you hit 20.  And increase the Dying Cockroaches by 2 until you hit 20.  A modified CHEVY to the LEVEE!

After a quick recover – Mosey to the Levee at the Fly.  Backwards Bear Crawl up levee x 2 -watch out for glass!  Regular Bear Crawl back down the levee.   We had to Suddenchange here and move the location due to a terrific smell of funky trash.

Moved ourselves over to Audubon Statue.  At Audubon we did Left Leg and Right leg step up x 25 and we did Dips/Freak Nasty x 20.

Mosey’d over to Hollywood South field.  The gentle hum of an air conditioned tent was calling our names.  But we opted for 6Minutes of Mary instead.

    LBC x 25, Russian Twist x 20 LBC Twist x 25, Hello Dolly x 25, Flutter x 20 and Plank Jacks x 25

We pushed our final mosey back to the FLAG for the Circle of Trust.

In the Circle of Trust we prayed for many who are sick and prayed to be better men in the lives of others.

Thanks for the privilege of Q’ing this workout.

    Peace-Reluctant Yankee

  • Micro Management

    Pre-Thang –

Yikes!  YHC almost accidental fartsacked (is that a verb) my own Q.  I snoozed my alarm and regained consciousness 11 min before post time.  After a leap from my bed and out the door – and a perfect ride with NO red lights I made it the #birdcage at 5:27.  3 min to spare.  Impressive – in my mind.   Gorgeous morning, 60 degrees and clear.  10 PAX ready to go.

The Thang:   Mosey to the edge of Audubon Park by Walnut St.  Our first Circle of Pain was:

    SSH x 23 (Anthony Davis’s number), Sumo Squat x 23, Peter Parkers x 23 Parker Peters x 23 Imperial Walkers x 23

Mosey back to Oak Alley by the shovel flag.

Line up for side hops (both sides), Carioca or Karioke?, lunges Burpee Broad jumps, then back doing Bear crawl, boo boo bear crawl, duck walks, high knees, butt kickers, more burpee broad jumps.   We went about 15-20 yards between each light for each exercise.

Then mosey to the Stage for the Army fitness test.    Do as many situps that you can do in 2 min.  Do as many push ups that you can do in 2 min.  Tclaps to Hawgcycle who crushed his situps with over 75.  Tclaps to the PAX for trying to finish strong here.

Mosey down to the ledge behind the stage.  OYO Box Jumps x 23, IC Step ups x 23 **apparently telling the pax to rotate legs instead of instructing them to do step ups left leg or right leg caused some problems.  Especially for Hawgcycle.  IC Dips x 23, IC One leg left leg squats x 10, one leg right leg squats x 10.

Mosey back to Oak Alley for 6 MOM.

Russian Twist x 20, LBC x 20, Jane Fonda side crunch left x20, right x 20, flutter x 20  Hello Dolly x 20   More mumblechatter during Jane Fonda about micro managing  — then a quick plank o rama.

Plank – lift left leg and right arm, then switch lift right leg, and left arm (grammarians kicked in here with your back left leg commentary) /  then lizard walk and hold/then southern gentleman/yankee agressor / elbow plank

COT:    I reminded all about Splashes excellent reflection last Friday.  Trying to make the daily lives of those around us easier – offering help or what we can do to make their lives easier today – right now.   A shout out to Roots that his ankle gets better.  It was a pleasure to be the Q today!  Thanks men!

Schedule:   Friday 530 AM at Wolfpack Mtn with Splash,  Saturday 630AM with Amnesty,  Monday 530 Pontiff with Hawgcycle, Next Wed – need a Q?

Tclaps to Hawg, Amnesty and Cavalier for staying for extra credit at the pull up bars!

  • Meanwhile… Back at the Birdcage

Pre-Thang:  First time to have the Q at The Birdcage since November, I think.  Weather is a bit different now.  You can taste the humidity in the air. PAX showed up in a timely fashion. YHC gave a quick disclaimer and we took off ten strong into the suck…

The Thang:  Mosey over toward golf club house and head over to bandstand area for warm up: SSH x 30 IC, then line up at first set of lights. Lunge walk to next set, Bear Crawl to next set, Burpee Broad Jump to next set, Lunge Walk to road.

Begin the mosey around the park.  Plank up to wait for the six after 1/4 mile. After the six arrives, since we’re there, Plank Walks x 20 IC just for fun.  Continue the mosey and stop near Prytania Street for Merkins x 20 and LBCs x 25 IC. Started moving toward front of park and hit with a bout of #suddenchange.  10  quick Burpees OYO.

Jog, run, sprint at your own pace to the fountain at the front and plank up at the benches.  Dips x 20, Sit ups w/ feet on bench x 12, Low Slow Dips x 15 all IC. Recover and hit the road.

After an 1/8 of a mile, #suddenchange again for a quick 10 Burpees OYO.

Mosey around to golf tee box for some Mary:  Real Freddie x 30, Dolly x 20, LBT x 25 and Rosalita x 20 all IC. Mosey toward Magazine Street.

Incredibly, there was more #suddenchange.  Things can be so unpredictable… 15 quick Burpees OYO.

Line up single file for a leisurely Indian Run toward Magazine Street.  After two rounds, sprint to #shovelflag area and plank up.  Plank o Rama for 3 minutes included: Regular, Elbows, NA, SG, Tom Cruise.

COT w/ shout out by YHC.  Prayers of healing for Amnesty and Channel Mullet’s fathers.

TClaps to the PAX for holding a good pace on our 2.18 mile mosey this morning.

Nice to see Tico Suave back in the gloom.  #kotter

And a “Welcome Back” to RY after a brief hiatus abroad.

  • Andouille and Bagasse

Pre-Thang:  Fun to see 2 FNGs chillin’ by the pull up bars as we pull up to the Birdcage.  Colonel also made a post-hibernation Kotter.    Welcome back to the Gloom!  And dayum – the gloom was really gloomy! I was sporting my brand new F3 long sleeve t-shirt.  A fresco 60 degrees but a super thick fog – hanging around.  Crazy silhouettes of the PAX as we worked out.  Some debate about whether or not Hawgcycle would come in hot – and yes he did.  Last man in but made it to the PAX before we started our mosey.

    The THANG:

    Mosey 1/4 mile to COP1

    COP1:  SSH x 25, Lunges x 20, Peter Parkers x 20, and Merkins x 20

Mosey to the LEVEE for some Chevy to the Levee

At the trail near the levee 5 burpees, run to the base of the levee, bear crawl to the top of the levee, run to the base on the other side and do 35 LBCs.

    Then 5 burpees, 30 LBCs, 5 burpees, 25 LBCs, 5 burpees, 20 LBCs, 5 burpees, 15 LBCs, 5 burpees, 10 LBCS, 5 burpees, 5 LBCs 5 burpees

Plank and wait for the 6.  At this point Hawgcycle made some comment about what kind of crazy dreams I had last night to come up with this psycho activity.  Congrats –   40 burpees and 140 LBCS.  Solid work!    At some point a few cyclists popped out of the GLOOM and almost took out a guy doing some burpees.  Screeching brakes and the glow in the dark wheels. Bizarre.  I thought it had to be Hawgcycle because he always has issues with bikes but he was coming down the levee at that point.  One more thing – Bisso shipping had a huge spotlight shining on the levee.  It was a cool sight with the FOG and the spotlight as several of the guys came over the top of the levee.  I need to plan someway to get pictures of that next time.  Also some PLANK O RAMA while we waited for the six.

Mosey 1/4 mile to the Butterfly along the Mississippi River.  So much gloom we couldn’t see the river.  The Pax was busting my chops for taking a wrong turn before we got to the FLY.

At the FLY – 11 min with Mary.  Some discussion about whether or not Rev makes more money with original beard, crazy shaved beard or beard-less.

Russian Twists, Bicycle, Dying Cockroach, Flutter, LBC twist x 30 , Penguins, Parker Peters, and Plank Jacks x 20

Long Mosey to the Flag.  Proud of the FNGs pushing themselves today.  Also Tclaps to Hawgcycle who was pushing extra hard for a solid workout on the levee.  2 FNGs – Bagasse is from Vacherie – so he earned a name that is close to Bad Ass but it is really a stinky bi-product of Sugar Cane.  Douille is from La Place the Andouille sausage capital of the world.  Welcome to F3 men!  Hope to see you guys at another workout site or at the very least next week.  Tclaps to Colonel for pulling the Kotter!  FYI  YHC will be at Fri and maybe Sat workouts but I am out of town for the next 10 days.  We need some Q help.  Please step up and take care of the PAX with some downPAINments.

Announcements:  Friday – Roots 530AM at the front of Audubon,

    Saturday 7AM City Park with ? — need a Q,

    Monday at Pontiff with Hawgcycle,

and we need a Q for next Wednesday.

Shout Out:  Lots of intentions for the members of the PAX and their friends and family.  Pray for health and safety over the Easter/Spring Break week.  A special request to be grateful for all of the wonderful things in our lives.

Extra Credit – Some of the Pax stayed for some extra credit at the pull ups.  Tclaps to you guys!

IF you go out to Hogs for the Cause – please donate to the Fleur De Que team.  Our very own Tito will be out there creating some crazy pork concoction.  Get your swine on!  Tclaps to Tito!

  • Lots o’ NOLA Kotters

Pre-Thang:  Lots of surprise Kotters this AM.  Welcome back, welcome back, weeeelllllcoooome back!

Blue Dog, All Practice, Steel Magnolia and Tito all came back to us in the gloom.  Very excited to see all the Kotters.  You were missed!   We had a PAX of 9 for this humid but beautiful morning.

    The Thang:

Our final total was:  1.99 mile mosey / 165 Merks/Squats/Peter parkers

A quick mosey over to Oak Alley of lights.  A quick COP in case we get any more Kotters.  Blue Dog commented that he missed that row of lights

COP 1 – SSH, Imperial Walkers, Plank Jacks, and Lunges x 20

From the first light – Bear Crawl, second light Boo Boo Bear Crawl right then left, Duck walks in honor of Sweeper, and to finish Crab Crawl to last light

Start journey to the track – mosey a little then we started the Super 21.  Which we weren’t able to finish due to time constraints.

First stop – 21 Merkins, Peter Parkers, and Squats

Mosey for 1/8 to 1/4 mile

Second stop – 20 and 19 (Merks, PPs, and Squats)

Mosey for 1/8 to 1/4 mile

Third stop –  18 and 17 (Merks, PPs, and Squats)

Mosey for 1/8 to 1/4 mile

Fourth Stop 16  (Merks, PPs, and Squats)

Run at your own pace to the benchs at the St Charles entrance to the park (1/2 mi)  Plank and wait.

    Dips x 20, Left leg squats x 10, Right leg squats x 10

    Mosey 1/4 mile

15 and 14 (Merks, PPs, and Squats)

    Mosey 1/4 mile

13 and 12  (Merks, PPs, and Squats)

Indian Run for a full rotation – 1 sprint per guy then a jail break to the flag because time was catching up to us.  YHC almost caught up to Blue Dog and Roots in a sneaky sprint but I as soon as I passed them, they hit the gas.  Almost guys!

My goal was at least two hundred of the Merks, Peter Parkers and Squats but we missed the mark.  Next time!  This time each of you did 165 Merks, Peter Parkers and Squats.  That is actually pretty impressive!  Congrats!

    Announcements:

Friday with Rev at St Charles entrance to Audubon/Wolfpack 530 AM

    Saturday with ?  (I can’t Q need someone quick) 7AM  City Park

Monday with Hawgcycle 530AM at Pontiff

Wednesday with Reluctant Yankee at the Birdcage (last chance for me to Q for awhile)

Tentative plan for  some F2 fellowship next Thursday evening to watch some March Madness and see if your bracket is busted!

    Shout out:

Praying for some friends dealing with cancer.

  • FALLEN 5k

Our first group 5K and moved AO due to a race!  Very exciting.  7 PAX for our first irregular event and we had several guys still out of town due to the Mardi Gras holiday.

Pre-Thang:  Beautiful overcast and windy morning (9AM felt like afternoon because of our normal workout time) .  A sharp looking t-shirt and the knowledge that our funds will go to support the LONE SURVIVOR organization was our motivation.  Plus a desire to see the rewards of 4months of F3 in NOLA.  Mr Awesome picked this event and we wanted to support his friends.

    The Thang:

We stood seven strong with OUR shovel flag as the starting line! See pic.  After Taps and a moment of silence.

First in for F3 NOLA was Reveille.

    Then Mr Awesome.

Then Hawgcycle — Who ran the race barefoot and in ponytail.  2 things I’ve never seen and neither had a few others.  He was the celebrity of the race.  “Did you see the barefoot guy?” was heard a few times!

Then LIttle Ceasar with a solid run.  His sister – Sister Ceasar also ran a solid race.  She flew past me at the halfway point.

Then Tundra, Reluctant Yankee and Chaka Khan brought up the F3 rear guard but all 3 put down solid runs.

A fun event and nice morning run for the guys.  3 guys medaled.  Tclaps to Hawgcycle, Mr Awesome and Reveille for their medals.

Tclaps to Tundra who just received a Fulbright to teach in Jordan next year!  Very impressive.  He also ran the 5k after being holed up sick in bed for 2 weeks.

Tclaps to YHC for my PR – I ran a 25.30.  Almost 4 minutes faster than my last 5k.  My first 5k since the F3 Leap in NOLA 4 months ago.  Thats right I just Tclap’d myself.

Tclaps to Hawg for his sub 24 PR.

Tclaps to Chaka Khan who has  been on a serious Mardi Gras bender and made a strong move to drag his you know what out of bed and left it all – in the birdcage!

Congrats guys!  It was a fun morning.  I’m looking forward to the SHAMROCK run now.

    Peace-

    RY

  • Why So Many Sudden Changes?

11 NOLA PAX decided to post on this cool morning in beautiful Audubon Park. Not knowing exactly what was in store, Reluctant Yankee did a little recon once he saw a tweet from the Fort’s Crabcakes about “Sudden Change”. He was kind enough not to spoil the fun for the rest of the PAX. There was also a little concern from the PAX since I decided to eat at DATDOG the night before… Alligator Sausage Dog with some White Trash Fries to wash it down.

    DATDOG

    Warm Up:
Initiate the workout with the Pledge of Allegiance led by Reluctant Yankee
    SSH: 30
    Mountain Climbers: 20
    SSH: 20
    LSS (low slow squat): 15
    Jump Squats: 15
    Jump Lunges: 10
Injured Bunny Hop: 10 each leg
    Squat Walk: 20 yds
    Bear Crawl: 20 yds
    Squats: 15

    Mosey to center of field

    The Thang:
After some collaboration with the PAX at the Fort, it was pretty apparent I needed to share the joy Sudden Change brings to the PAX… Which is what I did. In short, every time “Sudden Changed” was called, PAX had to do 10 OYO.

Sudden Changed was called a total of 11 times (if I remember correctly) with a total of 110 plus burpees.

Point Drill (Tough to explain but I’ll try): Drill consisted of 3 types of exercises (4 point merkin, 2 point merkin, 4 point flip flop)
4 point merkin: Plank position, chop your feet, on Q call belly flop and get back up in plank.
2 point merkin: standing up, chop your feet, on Q call belly flop and get back up.
4 point flip flop: plank position, chop your feet, on Q call flip over on your back in the direction Q points and get back up in plank.

After each drill was completed, get up and sprint 20 yards. 4 point merkin completed 8 times, 2 point merkin completed 6 times, 4 point flip flop completed 4 times. Total yards sprinted after 280 yards.

    Mosey to the parking lot

Break up in 2 teams and have a little suicide relay race. One PAX from each team would run down to the first light pole, do one burpee and run back… turn and run to the last light pole, do a burpee and run back… Pass to the next in line.

Completed 2 full cycles of this relay with PAX either planking or doing Squats while waiting for everyone to finish.

Mosey to the center of the field for the “Circle of Pain – Bounty Hunter Rendition”. Get in a tight circle in exercise starting position until your turn to exercise. Exercise as followed:
    Plank V Ups: 2 Revolutions
Elbow Plank V Ups: 2 Revolutions
Russian Twist: 3 Revolutions each side
    Legs Ups – 3 Revolutions
Finish with turkish get up: 5 reps each side

    Moleskin:
I was both honored and “Thankful” for the opportunity to come out and lead a bunch of great guys this morning. Even in it’s infancy, NOLA shows strong leadership with a hunger to grow the region into a powerhouse! A simple prayer goes out to all this week for safe travels and a wonderful Thanksgiving with friends and family. Oh yea, “Sudden Change”, anyone reading owes me 10 burbees!

    Bounty Hunter over and out!
