  • 610 Stomp #55

Five F3ers for the 55th running of the 610 Stomp.  YHC gave the disclaimer and made an empty threat to anyone finishing early (Rudy & DQ [trying to help you out Dancing Queen, but I guess by mentioning your name here and saying that I am trying to help you out may actually be hurting your chances of people starting to call you DQ]) that they can fill the remainder of their 45 minute workout with burpees.

    The Thang
45 minutes of straight (as in no breaks for burpees or rest) running at your own pace, no records being set today, especially by YHC who was just happy to run pain free for half of that time.  Imagine that, everyone finished at the flag right at 6:15 or shortly there after.

    Announcements
Amnesty informed YHC that an email went out yesterday with all the announcements.

    Shout-Outs

  • 610 Stomp #53 – Records are Made to be Broken

It was a PAX of 4 for the 53rd running of the 610 Stomp.  YHC had a  goal in mind for today and without Shorty, SFx, and Nip/Tuck around it looked like it could be a record-setting day.

    The Thang

A plain ol’ run down the Bayou route as far as you can go and get back in 45 minutes.  As far as YHC knows the top of the interstate overpass is the farthest anyone has ever made it.  SFx and YHC made it there once when we were doing a 30 second sprint / 30 second walk every 6 minutes.

Like animals running from a flood, we set out 2×2 to reach our goal.  I shared my goal with Cowbell about 5 minutes in and he seemed for it.  We made it over the overpass and about half way down the far side (3rd light from bottom).  We turned around, apparently picking up the pace a little to ensure we made it back on time (therwise, I don’t think our distance record would count).  44:10 after we started, Cowbell crossed the finish line a few seconds ahead of me.

Tool and Amnesty were there to help us seal the deal with 10 burpees.

    Moleskin

    • T-claps to Cowbell for setting the Stomp’s Distance record today.  Records are made to be broken, so let’s see what happens.
    • Cowbell and I actually had a negative split on the 3rd mile.  It was our fastest at about 7:54 min/mile pace.  Our slowest mile was our first mile at just under 8:30 min/mile pace.  That’s what having a partner and a goal will push you to do.
    • I didn’t realize it until I started writing the backblast, but today’s workout began the Stomp’s 2nd year.  Here is the backblast from the first stop 1 year ago.

    COT

Prayers for Brady, Mason, and Cowbell’s aging grandparents.  Please pray for Cable Guy.  His wife Melissa passed away Monday.  Here is a link to a fund his friends have put together.

  • The 610 Stomp #52 – Olympics Inspired Birthday

Seven veteran F3ers glutton for punishment showed for 6 times the birthday fun with YHC.  What spells more fun than 4-0-0  m-e-t-e-r  i-n-t-e-r-v-a-l-s on your birthday?  …..Anyone……? That’s right, 8-0-0  m-e-t-e-r  i-n-t-e-r-v-a-l-s and YHC thought that if what’s his name from wherever can run a 1:40 800 then certainly the PAX can run repeat 800’s at their 1 mile goal pace.

Mosey to the Practice Track and 200 meters around

    The Thang
PAX instructed to take their 1 mile goal (6:00, 7:00, 8:00, etc) and cut the time in half for a target 800m pace
5-6 x 800 meters at 1 mile goal pace with 2 minutes of walk/mosey between each one

    Mosey to the Flag
Seal the Deal with Flutter Kicks (IC) x 51

    Mumble Chatter
Lots of “Happy Birthday” with sarcasm noted
“When was the last time you ran an 800?” – Hawg, “I can’t remember” – YHC, “That’s the same way I Q workouts.” – Hawg
No safety report from OSHA so this must be a perfectly safe workout in the 90 degree heat with a wet track and the high school girls cross country team running past us

    Announcements
Bible Study before Mothership at 6:00am
Amnesty organizing an F3 work crew for Saturday – Clown Car to BR Anyone?  Also please let him / the PAX know of anyone that with considerable damage and few people around to help (i.e. widows or families with young kids lacking resources, etc.)

  • Out and Back Again

The Weather: Hot and Humid.  Typical Summer day.  News guy said 88% humidity.  I can’t wait for fall.

The Disclaimer: I remembered this time.

The Thing: YHC looking to a half marathon this winter (if you’re interested – let me know!), so its time to start getting some mileage on these old legs.  We’ll do the traditional out-and-back: 6 min run, 30 sec sprint, 30 sec recovery, repeat until done. Follow the Bayou St John route.

The Close: YHC seems to be getting older, or at least his back is.  So trying to take it easy on the burpees.  Instead, seal the deal with an elbow plank.  Side Effects reminded us to ACTIVATE THE GLUTES

The COT: Close with a prayer, remembering Kim Chi friend, Tool’s family and son Brady, and all of those starting school.  YHC asks for grace to use the gift of today wisely and in service of our family, our friends, and our God.

  • Men Among Fartsackers – 610 Stomp #50

Hundreds of people converged on City Park this am to sharpen their bodies and minds by running through the scenic oak tree lined roads, utilizing the great outdoors gyms, and taking advantage of the pro-grade practice track. The only problem was only two of those individuals were F3 gloomers. So as 5:30 rolled around, Cowbell and I shrugged our shoulders, waiting for someone, anyone, to roll in hot but no dice. So we were off in a steady mosey for a 30 minute run along the Bayou St. John route with plans to finish off the morning with speed work on the track. YHC informed Cowbell he’d be skipping the burpees due to a tweaked calf coupled with the impromptu neighborhood beer slurping 9 hours earlier. Moseyed down the bayou and turned around at Orleans which made for roughly a 3 mile run. T-claps to Cowbell for keeping YHC company and keeping me from whiskey dicking more than I did. Once back at the track, we were hoping for enough time for four laps but only managed three. Lap #1: 50yd walk, 50 yd sprint x4. Laps#2&3: 100yd walk, 100yd sprint x2. Time was ticking so back to the flag for the obligatory 10 burpee finale. COT included a prayer for Cowbell’s grandparents and YHC’s son.

YHC apologizes to the PAX (aka Cowbell) for showing up only running on 6.5 cylinders instead of the usual 8. Despite the somewhat mediocre posting this am, we still avoided a case of the fartsack that seemed to plague dozens of other F3 men throughout New Orleans.

    Tool

P.S. T-claps to HVAC who was out there running solo on the track. He plans on making it to The Uptowner on Friday.

“Sometimes you win, sometimes you learn.” – Chinese proverb

10 men gathered in the gloom this morning.  Great turnout!

    DISCLAIMER

    Tha Thang

6 minute run, 1 minute burpees/walk/recover/etc.  Our destination was the highest point in NOLA, which Tool is the only one who knows it by name… we will call it Tool Mountain #hammertime. Pax stayed together for this one.  Got in two sets of burpees x 10 by the time we got to the start of the trail.  Once we had our six, we ventured into the forest… Cowbell was like:

    nailed it reaction excited amazed

After running through 3 spider webs, we arrived at the base of Tool Mtn.  Pax partnered up…Pax #1 ran up the mtn.  Pax #2 did low slow squat jumps.  Flapjack one time due to time, and head back to civilization.  10 more burpees before our trek back to the flag.  Once back, held the COT which included the countoff, namorama, and prayer. Thanks for letting me lead.

  • 610 Stomp #47 Fartlekin’ Redux

    Word Origin (Swedish): literally…speed play

Four men with the intestinal fortitude to show up and improve themselves met by the shovel flag. Fresh off vacation and with fond memories of Hawg’s Fartlek some weeks back, it was time for a Redux. After Disclaimer, we stepped off and ran to Canal Blvd…about 4 miles. During the run we did four sprints…of varying exertion levels: 70%, 71%, 72% and 69%. We returned to the S/F with a few minutes to spare so we sealed the deal with 10 burpees. Countoff, Namerama, Announcements (see below), Shoutouts, Prayer. See you tomorrow for my Birthday Q at NOLA Foundry.

  • 610 Stomp #46 – Back to the Basics

Eight hardened NOLA veterans rolled up as the smoke cleared from the fireworks at the end of another fine Independence Day in our great nation.  No surprises this morning, just plan old hard work and cardio for the PAX.

    Disclaimer

    The Thang:

45 minute run and goal of 50 burpees along the way.  Most of the PAX went with 6 minutes followed by a 1 minute break with 10 burpees and a bit of walking.  Watch out for the mortar and firework remains spread across the entire Bayou St. John path.

  • Change. I hate change. or is Ch-ch-ch-changes? Stomp #45

OK – I admit it. I hate burpees. I love them but I hate them. So I generally avoid Tuesday (its my wife’s day) but even if I can make it- I avoid it. So I decided to take the Q just to mix it up. I did want to work on my running!

So it was 7 PAX in the gloom. No lights at the track to set the mood. Lights kicked on at 545.

Ran in for a COP. I know you guys told me – no COPs on Tuesdays. Oh sorry to the whinners – you know who you were. I am still licking my wounds from a loss in the 7/8 playoffs last night and I can’t take it out on a bunch of 7 yr olds so you guys get to deal with my pent up anger.
    SSH x 20 , Low Country Crabs x 20, Hillbillies x 20, Pylo Merks x 20

    Then to the running workout.
Approx 30 yrds –> High knees, Butt Kicks, Lunge Walks, Power Skip for Height, Power skip for distance, Karaoke with knee to waist – this was awkward, so I went regular karaoke for the other leg. Of course Hawgcycle like the awkward way. The only person who likes awkward more than Hawg is mr Awesome. Then finished with Backwards run and backwards crab walk.

The Thang: 10 in 10. Run the straight away of the track and jog the curve 10 times. The goal was to beat the PAX. Tclaps to El Wire for the big hustle. He almost lapped some of the PAX. Tclaps to Rudy for pushing hard – he was the only PAX to finish to the cones. Yes I noticed!
All of the PAX was back to the Circle by 9.5 min. Good work men!

The 2nd THANG: or THANG 2: Back and Forth x 10. Backwards run 30 yards then spring when you get the 30 yrd mark. We did this 10 times in 2 heats. Tclaps to Hawg who won more than half of the sprints.

Then we collected the cones and mosey’d to the clearing.
Here we did some abbreviated Mary.
    Dying Roach x 20, Leg Lifts x 15, Russian Twist x 15
Then the punch out for 10 Burpees.

Finally we close with the COT.
At the COT – we were thankful for all of the blessings in our lives.
    Specifically with our families.
    #gratitude

Always a pleasure but an extra pleasure to VQ the 610 Stomp.
    Peace-
    RY

  • 610 Stomp #44 – Fartlekin’

5 fartlekers gathered for the weekly 610 Stomp.  Not only was Amnesty back from Hawaii and recovered from his hula accident, but he also orchestrated a subtle, yet successful EH on Splash, motivating Splash to make his way to the Roosevelt Mall this morning.  T-claps to the both of ya.  YHC gave a subtle disclaimer and it was time for…

    The Thang

4.5 mile run with Fartleks to the the Jose Marti statue at Jeff Davis and Banks and then back along the other side of the bayou.  The Pax stayed together for this one.  We jogged at a conversational pace.  YHC would yell out random percentages to step up our pace to (e.g. 65%, 80% 100%, etc.).  We would run for a random length at that amount of effort.  We finished with a couple of minutes left to seal the deal: 8 burpees, 1 super slow merkin, 3 burpees, 1 super slow squat with a hold at the bottom, and finished with 2 burpees (although YHC lost count and did 3).

    Moleskin

I’m a fan of the fartleks.  I am feeling this workout.  Looking forward to doing it again the next time I Q the stomp.  Not sure how I lost count going to 2.  Even I can usually count that far without issue.  I’m blaming the fartleks.
