    The Journey to 28

This morning is the beginning of a momentous journey for all baseball fans as the New York Yankees begin their quest for their 28th World Series Championship. To cheer on the Yankees, YHC tried to bring out the Yankee spirit among this morning’s PAX at the Fight Club. Following the disclaimer and a short mosey, we began with a standard warm-up

    The Warm-Up

Imperial Walker – 27 (We started as the evil empire.)

    Annies – 20

    Windmills – 20

    Low Slow Squats – 20

    Noah’s Ark

The PAX ran a big lap up the levee ramp and down the steps back to the starting point. YHC then introduced a new exercise inspired by the Rev in his name. The PAX will now imagine that we are each fulfilling the role of Noah and trying to get the animals and our children away from the flood waters and up to higher ground on the levee (New Orlean’s ineffective ark). The PAX will climb the levee by going up the fight set of steps and then across the grass while doing the bear crawl to the steps on the other side. After going up the next few steps, the PAX will cross the grass back to the other side while doing the crab walk. Up a few more steps and back over doing the monkey hop. Up the last few steps and back over while doing the boo boo baby. (See the picture if you have never been to La Salle Landing to get some idea of what YHC is talking about)

Now that the PAX is at the top of the levee, YHC informed them that there is a rare reading in the Hebrew text of the story of Noah’s Ark. Jack and his three sons Jack, Jack, and Jack all fartsacked onto the ark and Noah threw them out to splash in the waves and drown. The PAX will now play the role of the Jacks as we descend the levee. This time the PAX will go down a level, stop in the middle as they cross to the other side for 20 smurf jacks. They will continue to go down the levee and stop at each level for 20 plank jacks, 20 chilly jacks, and 20 jumping jacks.

    The Intermission

YHC killed some time with a 20 count of Rocky Balboas and 20 dips.

    Deconstructed Burpees

The PAX started at the bottom of the levee (away from the steps) for a few deconstructed burpees. The PAX did 28 merkins on the bottom of the levee and ran up and over levee for 28 jump squats on the bottom of the other side. Two more rounds of 18 merkins and jump squats, followed by 8 merkins and jump squats. The 8 is in honor of Yogi Berra. Yogi is the greatest Yankee ever with a record of 10 World Series championships and the king of quotes. 8 is also the only Yankee number retired twice as it was also worn by the legendary Bill Dickey.

    Mary

The PAX triangled up to end with a little Mary.

    Wife Pleasers – 20

    Penguins – 20

    American Hammer – 20

    Dying Cockroach – 20

    Flutterkicks – 10

    O Dolly – 10

    The Conclusion

Count off, Name-o-rama, announcement, and intentions. Thanks River Ridge Bros for coming out this morning for a beatdown and for putting up with my Yankee fandom (it’s not as bad as Rudy’s Notre Dame obsession).

  • The Thrillabon in the Audubon

Being an F3 Nation member for only 10 months (last race I was nothin but a gleam in a Hawg’s eye), the Gnarly Nutria was the stuff of legend. A back and forth sporting event like the world has not witnessed since Ali vs. Frazier. Two heavyweights going toe to toe for 5.4 miles with the Uptowners dominating Gnarly Nutria I and The World squeaking by with a narrow victory in Gnarly Nutria II.

This year The World looked to overwhelm the smug Uptowners with numbers, and we have been recruiting. I was even dreaming of running the first race of my life but fell to the wayside with a calf injury on Friday. Although The World would now be missing their best runner, they still persevered and began the race with a distinct advantage in numbers.

Following an epic lightning storm, the race began at 9:10pm. Our first finishers were a family group, and hat’s off to Sandbar who brought two of his 2.0s who finished the first lap in solid time.

I knew the Uptowners were going to be in trouble when the first runners to not complete all three laps were Uptowners. Then the top two finishers of all three laps were both from the World and the landslide began. Like an over-the-hill Frazier against Ali, the Uptowners were no match for The World in Gnarly Nutria III.

The final score was 446 The World and 354 Uptowners. The World is so fast, we turned off the lights in our bedrooms when we got home last night and we were in bed before the room was dark.

We welcomed 4 FNGs into our numbers in the largest sweaty ball of man I have ever seen. I got to hand it to the runners, the names for our new members were great. We welcome Tubbs, Tramp Stamp, Right Cheek and his brother Left Cheek to F3. May we forget your real names and always refer to you by your F3 names in public.

Here are your Gnarly Nutria top finishers:

    1. Smooth – The World

    2. Turbo Tax – The World

    3. Pony Boy – Uptowner

    4. El Guapo – The World

    5. Mulligan – Uptowner

    6. End Time – The World

    7. YSR – Uptowner

    8. Swampcock – Uptowner

    9. Cavalier – Uptowner

    10. Mahatma-Ice – The World

    11. Right Cheek – The World

    13. Jadaveon – Uptowner

    14. Cowbell – The World

    15. Hawgcycle – The World

    16. Thighs – The World

    17. Freedo – Uptowner

    18. Cornbread – The World

    19. El Wire – Uptowner

    20. Mariah – Uptowner

    26. Tramp stamp – The World

    27. Bubba – The World

    28. Shorty – The World

    29. Brownbag – Uptowner

    30. Landing Strip – Uptowner

Left cheek, Bad Moon, Two Yutes, Shooter, Bushwacker, Einstein, 86, Pi, Walleye, King Kong, Triple Shift, Reluctant Yankee, and Roots fell just outside the top 30 in this order. I couldn’t keep up with the names after Roots. Congrats to all who finished and all who completed 1 or 2 laps. Thank you for helping us all be better men as we do stupid, pointless things like run for no reason in the middle of a lightning storm while chased by Jaguars.

I’m inviting you to our next AO at “the Boxing Match” sculpture in Kenner’s Rivertown. The first Wednesday of September will be the launch of the F3 NOLA “Fight Club.”

Your Humble Scorekeeper (I don’t plan on doing this next year, so someone else better get hurt right before the race in 2019),

  • Back to the Roots

Too many moons ago I did my last Q at the Mothership.  My last Q was based on a book I had read the 7 Habits of Highly Effective People.  This time I wanted to focus on the roots of F3 a simple straight forward no frills beat-down.

    Announcements/Intentions/Prayer/Coffeteria/Bible Study

Welcome FNG – Quiche.  I think he was EH’d by the Wiz.

This work out paid subtle tribute to some of my favorite F3 beat downs.  First to Roots –   YHC was happy to see Roots make his way from Uptown and deliver the third shovel flag of the day.  My first workout was at the Birdcage with non other than OG Roots as the Q.  It was quiet, intense, and intimidating.  In other words it was awesome.  2nd to Douille –  who taught me that low plank Peter Parkers and Plank Jacks are possible (there were doubters today).   Finally to Maverick (somewhere on the Northshore) who previously took the pax to the pier for Jack Webs.  Thanks to last months ISI challenge I could complete 10 rounds this time.

Thanks for the opportunity to lead.

  • Memorial Day Murph

Growing up, Memorial Day represented the first weekend of summer.  This was the first time we would pack up the car, hitch up the boat, and head to Lake Norfork on the eastern side of the Ozarks; a ritual we would repeat every weekend until Labor Day.  I loved Memorial Day and hated Labor Day.  Labor Day represented the end of summer, the beginning of school, and the end of fun.  Made sense that a holiday celebrating work would represent all those terrible things.  Also appropriate, Memorial Day represented freedom.  School was out.  It was time to be care-free and head to the lake.  I had a good understanding that Memorial Day represented freedom, but I never considered the cost associated with that freedom.  And that is unfortunate, because that is what the holiday is really about.

So for Memorial Day 2018 F3 New Orleans did our best to recall the sacrifices made.  We, like many others around the nation, completed a Murph.  A Murph is a 1 mile run, 100 pull-ups, 200 merkins, 300 squats and a 1 mile run, named in honor of Lt. Michael Murphy, a Navy Seal who lost his life in Afghanistan.  I have feeling the real Murph didn’t modify his pull-ups as much as I did.  Oh and he wore a weighted vest through the whole thing.

    Naked Man Moleskin

Great showing by the Uptown and World Pax, coming together at City Park.  I was impressed.  Further confirmation that 0530 is the right time to workout on the weekdays:  November Project showed up at 0600 only to find us on the equipment.  It worked out though, mainly because the F3 Pax crushed this Murph.  We were all running our final mile by the time they needed the pull-up space.  Lucky for them, there was no showdown.  Also lucky for us Da Parish and Rudy were not around.  I’m certain they would have broken into song from West Side Story.

Impressive times by all.  I believe Mahatma and Gabrielle completed it in about 36 minutes. We finished with Mary, culminating in a 21 gun salute of the American Hammer.

Great way to start the week and honor those who have given the ultimate sacrifice.  Thanks guys.

  • The River meets Kenner

Suggested to have another AO location to add scenery to Troubled Water, so a suggestion was given to have the PAX arrive at RiverTown, where LA State HWYs 48 meets 49.

Arrived to look things over and Torque was brave enough to come out of St. Charles parish to meet in the gloom for the beat down.

Instructions given, not a trained trainer modify as necessary..etc …etc..etc

    Warm up

    • SSH x 20 IC
    • Windmills x 20 IC
    • Armcircles x 20 forward and backward IC
    • Keep them up – [The Kimchi special]
    • Seal Claps x 10 IC
    • Copperhead Cquats x 10 IC
    • Step-Ups x 20 NC

While warming up, kept looking at the stairs going up on the right then coming down on the left or it could be up left, down right, a partner workout was born – Chipper understands “Born” as he has a handsome 2.0 –

    What was done , son

Go up the steps, run or jog or walk, at the top complete 5 burpees, don’t get hit by the cyclist,  then down the steps on the other side, tap out partner and this would continue until numbers were met…

    • 100 WWII situps
    • 100 Air Squats
    • 100 Inclined Merkins

Head over to the bench area to complete 15 sec, then 30 sec, then 45 sec static leg holds – O the pain static can bring – then planked for 60 sec more. Since it was only two of us, no monkey humpers were allowed.

    Hey Mary

Got down to our six and completed

    • LBC x 20 IC
    • Hello Dolly x 10 IC
    • Freddy Mercury x 10 IC

Time came to complete this first time at the AO and prayers were lifted for the PAX present and not, and our M’s and 2.0s and thanking GOD for the light show in the sky yesterday reminding us how small we are.

-See ya in the Gloom soon – GOD Bless you all, GOD Bless F3 and GOD Bless America!

–Thank you for the honor to Q
