  • Total Meltdown with the Fire Fighter Challenge Tabata – from Bushwacker

Following a long rehabilitation after shoulder surgery, during which YHC did ABSOLUTELY nothing overly strenuous that Chewy would frown upon, it’s back to the fire department. And, of course, that means then Lakefront is due for another Fire Fighter Challenge… this time Tabata style! Our own friendly neighborhood Steve graciously offered to stalk me at 5:45am and help set up an array of treacherous exercises for the general populous of F3 Northshore.

    WARMORAMA

Ok, let me be honest, as I sit here typing this drivel of a backblast, I’m having (not for the 1st time) memory issues. Everything came in sets of 10 and in cadence. There were several things with knees and feet and hands, ya know the usual. We really just needed to get loose enough to reduce risk of injury while dying in the heat and humidity.

    THANG

The PAX mosied to the shaft where a variety of tires, weights, a giant rope, and a 50ft length of fire hose awaited the assembled. A hopefully-briefer-than-expected-by-the-PAX explanation of the ordeal laid out was given and things got underway. A tabata of 40 cycles – seconds of work with 12 seconds rest in between had such familiar FF exercises such as the Tire Pull, Tire Toss, Tire Flip, and Sledge Hammer Swing, interspersed amongst which were other favorites such as the High Rise Pack Carry, Burpees, Flutter Kicks, Farmer’s Carry and more. After the completion of the Challenge, in which a valiant effort was put forth by the brave men willing to cross the thin red line to take the red pill, there were none willing to compete for the Badaxxe Award by completing the Tire Pull, Tire Flip, and Farmer’s Carry for time. QIC wasn’t certain whether the lack of interested parties was because the defending title holder Grundy was not in attendance, or like myself, everyone was almost fully spent. Either way, there seems to be some unfinished business…

    MARY

After mosying back to the flags the PAX were treated to 11 full-ass minutes of mary that finaled with 100 100s OYO.

    COT

Countorama/nameorama, True Coat shared the opportunity to take part in a 30 minute men’s weekly zoom meeting involving spiritual discussions of Opus Dei and more of the most intriguing sort. Hit him up to learn more. The fair-weather Kotter Quart Pipe prayed us out and off to coffeteria we went!
Gentlemen, thank you for following me into the fire (of sorts), and allowing me to lead you all in this thing of ours, la F3 cosa nostra. And don’t forget, HYDRATE HYDRATE HYDRATE!

  • KISS – from Steve

No, no – not the Prince song made famous by Julia Roberts in that Pretty Woman bathtub scene.  Keep it simple, stupid.  In this case, that refers to both the beatdown and this backblast.  Jose had promised to boycott my Tuesday Q, as he was sure there’d be no backblast and hey, what’s the point of posting if it doesn’t help him to overtake the reigning champ Russo on the paxminer charts?  I get it.

And there probably would’ve been no backblast, but seeing how quickly Jose knocked out his A1C three year anny blast this morning, YHC thought to himself, “C’mon Steve, get your s@#* together!” (Yes, YHC refers to himself both in the third person and by his f3 nickname.  Totally normal.)

So yeah – simple beatdown.  And hopefully effective. Well, effective for Shooter and I.  I have a feeling Russo is such a machine these days (what with his four beatdowns a week), that it was a breeze for him. Speaking of breeze, it was a few degrees cooler Tuesday morning, and not nearly as brutal as it’s been. Despite that, though, there wasn’t much chatter. Maybe it was the fact that we didn’t have Bush or Hammer, or maybe it was just the 55 burpees at the top of the beatdown.

Warmorama : Usual business, torso twists, good mornings, IW’s, SSH’s, MC’s, etc.

Thang: Was supposed to be three series of 11’s:

    1. Slurpees (burpees w/ star jump) at bottom of stairs, calf raises (4 ct) up top.
    2. Merkins, broad jump length of the lawn, alt leg lunges (2:1)
    3. Box cutters, bear crawl amphitheater hill, freak nasties.

We scratched the final set because hey, time flies when you’re beating the crap out of yourself. Quick set of step ups (no Bulgarians?!?) and freak nasties before settling in for a few mins of Mary. Russo prayed us out. Announcements: Bush’s fire fighter challenge Saturday. Appreciate the opportunity to lead such an excellent group of men. (And appreciate the inspiration/motivation to write the BB, Jose!)

  • 3 year anniversary of the A1C – from Jose10k

Could the A1C shutdown the cross town rival splash pad? Could the anniversary bring out seldom seen brothers like Tanked Up? Could Moby be sick and tired of CottonEyeJoe and the Cupid Shuffle? The answer to all 3 of these questions is simply, hell yes. As Bushwacker once told me, if you build it, they will come, just not him this Friday. 10 men took the red pill this morning to better themselves to celebrate the creation of the A1C 3 years ago. We prepared to dip into some of the favorite workouts in my bag of tricks, however, Moby is sick of the songs I think. So YHC was amused to see the chain gang on the back of his truck as he pulled up this morning.
    Warm-up: yeah, we had one
Mosey to the Courthouse for some Dora with the hand rails. Partner one: did 50 merkins, then planked up until partner 2 came back from going up the ramp going hand over hand on the rails.
2nd Round: partner one 100 squats, followed up with holding an al Gore. Partner two did the handrails again. 3rd Round: LBCs (300 cumulative, with alternating hand rails). Mumble chatter was great as always, amazed as Steve flew up those rails despite being vertically challenged. See Cowbell, can’t use it as an excuse. Mosey back to the top of the parking garage with the group separated into two groups of 5. Each group performed whatever exercise they pick while one person drags the chain across the parking garage. Each person dragged the chain a total of 3 times. Finished up with a Merkin Ring of Fire getting up to 101. COT with Hammer praying us out. Intentions for Waterpik and recovery from his soccer related injuries. Bushwackers FF challenge tomorrow. Thanks for coming out gentlemen, thanks for supporting me, and pushing me to be better.

  • Gorillas in the Mist – from Jose10k

I arrived to Grandma’s a little early to get in a little run before the beatdown. The weather came through the night before which brought the temperature down a bit. The humidity was there, but a little more bearable. I passed Steve on my run, so I knew I wasn’t going to be alone ( I was worried driving up to the AO). A good mile run, then back to the flag.
Warm-up: Again, you’ve been to a beat down before, so you know how it goes.

    The Thang:
I know, you guys have a lake. I know you guys have a tunnel. But once again, the A1C has music. YHC brought the music to Grandma’s House, namely CottonEye Joe.
SSH until the word CottonEye Joe, then a burpee each time you heard that name. Great way to start the workout. Then it was to the trunk of the sentra to pick your poison. 35 lb plates, coupons, or a pair of 30 lb dumbells. It was a Gorilla workout that Shooter introduced to me a few weeks back. 8 reps of each exercise, 8 rounds. Curls, shoulder presses, merkins, and kettlebell swings. Run from stop sign to stop sign then 8 gorilla humpers. Rinse and repeat for 8 rounds. Followed it up with 3 minutes of Mary. COT with Shooter praying us out.

Mumble Chatter included the recent weather, business operations in the Mandeville area, and LSU baseball. Steve, the resident Entomologist of Mandeville, taught us all about the Mayfly which is the popular diet of the local Horse Flies of Mandeville. Sadly though, I missed out on the stepfather of the AO, Russo. Where can he be? Did he see my name on the Q sheet and decided to stay home? He couldn’t be afraid of A1C guys coming into Mandeville? I’ll let you come to your own conclusion, but clearly something is up

  • Gorilla me soft and steady!! – from Shooter

The Gipper brought back memories and traditions one hasn’t experienced in sometime but certainly missed.. With Jose10k EHing the night before for a prethang miler, Steve texting Wacker and I the night before for a carpool meeting at the old WD parking lot and Fletch making an appearance on his off week from work.. The foundation of PAX in Barely legal, Einstein, Mobydick and Sonny are always rewarding to start the Gloom with at the Gipper. PAX welcomed DR UpChuck 🤮 from Birmingham who accompanied us on the Prethang as well.. The Gipper AO has always been a favorite of YHC and recent shifts in commitments has changed the availability for regular post but the last two weeks have been very rewarding and refreshing.. Thank you Gipper crew for the post and always for the great chatter that follows…

    Warmarama
    Prethang miler
10IC Arm circles, Cherry Pickers, Imperial walkers, Toe Touches, Windmills, and SSH.

    Thang
PAX picked up coupons and shouldered to the courthouse for the Gorilla complex and Gorilla Humpers..
Gorilla Complex is 8 curls for the girls, 8 one arm kettle swings (different in the Exicon), 8 shoulder presses and 8 Merkins. Moseyed down the greenway on side the courthouse to the other entrance and completed 8 Gorilla Humpers. R/R 8 rounds..
PAX finished up and returned the coupons to their resting place and assembled at the flag for a close of 5 OYO Body Bag Builders.. (YHC sure to use those more often)

Times up for count, announce and COT!!

Appreciate the Gipper and the Foundation of PAX for the post and until the next Gloom
    👍🏼✌🏼👊🏼!!!

  • Murph at the Marsh on Memorial Day – from Jose10k

It’s as simple as the title: we had a Murph at the Marsh on Memorial Day. You have to love the alliteration. 26 total showed up for the annual event. Hogsbreathe began with a history of the workout, his own personal experience, which we greatly appreciated. It was fun watching Zoo’s face as each car pulled up. He so graciously offered up his beautiful outdoor kitchen for breakfast afterwards. A huge shout out to his wife for helping prepare breakfast for a bunch of smelly men. Warm-up followed by the murph. COT, 2 FNG’s, (welcome Pole Dancer and Flex Seal), followed by Hammer praying us out. Thank you all for posting and the fellowship as always. Happy Birthday Pick!

  • No Q? No problem! – from Shooter

With a blank on the board PAX will still show, so AO responsibilities include the occasional self EH no matter how many mental excuses come to mind.. Whether it be wanting to rest a little more hitting the snooze or simply making the assumption someone else will take it attitude, which every PAX out on this Gloom would have done most willingly.. Especially the likes of Q Master Russo, who has single handily kept the splash pad a float for the last few months.. PAX agreed that the old Jose10k would have clearly began his annual return of posting every Gloom now that school is out for the summer, then again a name change (Jose10Katie) changes a man. Let’s face it most all of us have been there.. We love you Jose10k, Jose10Katie or whatever your first F3 name happened to be…. 😬😬

    Light warmup
10IC and 20IC SSH, Imperial walkers, Grass grabbers, arm circles, neck rolls and Toe Touches.

Runners only out and down East Causeway to Monroe, down Monroe turning on Antibes and a left at the stop sign around the circle and returning. 3.5 total with all PAX.
Time for Mary WW1 with legs spread 15 OYO, straight led and knee up crossing elbow F/J, 10 Merkins OYO, LBCs 10IC and Superman holds for 5 seconds to 10 and ended with Flutter kicks.

Appreciate the Hammer praying us out and until the next Gloom 👍🏼👊🏼✌🏼!!

  • And Twins! – from Russo

About 70 degrees and “not too bad” as Steve concurred this morning. 6 pack this morning for what I thought might be an ambitious beatdown.

Great conversation throughout revolving around vacations, movies, beaches, gravel in our elbows…and twins! (Remember when beer commercials used to be fun?)

    Warmup – all 10x IC
    Toe touches
    SSHs
    Self love
    Cherry pickers
    Grass grabbers
    High knees

    Thang
Mosey to the bridge, with 10 Peter Parker’s, Jump squats, and Flutter kicks interspersed.

    At the bridge

11s – 8 count body builders and Absolution, with alternating side shuffles, backpedals, sprints, cariocas, and recovery walks from one side of the bridge to the other.

Rounds 8/3, 9/2, and 10/1 were part of the mosey back (with a modification to merkins on the last round in the interest of time).

COT, Name-o-Rama, Announcements, Prayer, in that order.

Akbar had Saturday lakefront Q, YHC has Splashpad Friday Q, and check the schedule for the rest of the week.

Another week at Granny’s in the books. Thanks for joining and reading.

  • What the Ruck is this? – from Shooter

YHC doubled up on the Q sheet this week taking over the reins from Russo and Steve on Tuesday and signed up for the AO of responsibility… Arrived early to the sights and sounds of Speedy as he sat in his vehicle listening to some Jams as Waterpik came Moseying in with his own prethang from the house… PAX then welcomed Steve and Hammer with his own prethang as well and Zoolander rounded out the PAX pulling in right on time.. Two things would be missing this day, our Rucking crew unrepresented and the Chattering of Sir Wacker already cruising the freeways with the family in the mini van on their way to San Antonio…

    Brief warmup
10IC Torso twist, Scorpion kicks, Superman holds, Runners poses with alternating PAX 10 count, SSH and squat holds..

Path for today was back through the park and out to Greenleaves for 20 mins out and 20 mins return. Hammer graciously hung back with YHC and Zoolander slid back and joined at the halfway mark as Steve, Speedy and Waterpik distanced further out.. Upon return Steve provided they had completed 4.5 miles and the six finished with around 4.2 miles..
Chatter was great and weather was mild..

Count, announce, COT and appreciation to Waterpik for the close in prayer!

    Until the next Gloom 👍🏼👊🏼✌🏼!!!

  • Tres for Cinco – from Russo

72 degrees and noticeably more humid than yesterday to start us off. The Splashpad is beginning to earn its name.

Fiesta-like atmosphere this morning, with the reuniting of long-lost Steve and Pelican, and a themed beatdown revolving around a certain Mexican celebration. YHC believes both Steve and Pelican were just happy to not have to look at YHC’s mug alone. Cervezas all around!

    Warmup (all IC)
    SSHs
    Self love
    Grass grabbers
    High knees

    – 200 Lunges
    – 300 Flutter kicks

    Parte Dos

    Five more TACOS

    Maria
    – 15 IC penguins (which may or may not be the official bird of Mexico)
