  • Is That A Wienkie In Your Pocket, Or Are You Just Happy To See Me? – from Steve

About once every three to four years, YHC finally tires of the endless Four Corners and the Doras and the 11’s, and attempts something more creative. (See Music Trivia Beatdown circa 2020 for last said attempt.) Today’s experiment? A game of Family Feud (minus the… families?) This experiment was made all the more exciting with a downrange visitor from Birmingham – VTach. And with Jose 10k in the audience to heckle and jeer at my simple math skills, what could go wrong?

Now I’m no Steve Harvey (though I do think I could give Louie Anderson a run for his money), so I did my best to keep it simple (cue Jose, “Hey, I gotta leave in 15 minutes, can we not make this a Bushwacker length explanation?):

    – Each round (question) is associated with an exercise (noted alongside the question).
    – Guess an answer on the board? We halve the points and do that many of said exercise.
    – For every wrong answer, the Pax has to do 5 burpees.
    – After three strikes, the round ends and we DOUBLE the points of each unguessed answer, then do that many reps of said exercise.

    1. Name something snowmen might have nightmares about. (Freak Nasties)
    Sun/Beach Weather (62)
Fire/Flame Throwers (14)
Blow Dryers (3)
Rain (3)
Snowplow/Shovel (3)
Drought (2)
Snowballs (2)
Peeing Dogs/Pee (2)

    2. Name something that gets passed around. (Big Boys)
    A joint (34)
A cold (23)
A collection plate (12)
A rumor (9)
A baby (6)

    3. Name something that might ripple. (SMK’s)
    Water/Stream (63)
Body/Muscles (30)
Potato Chips (4)
Pants (3)

    4. Name something that can be inflated or deflated. (Donkey Kickoffs)
    Balloon (44)
Tire (25)
Beach ball (10)
Ego (7)
Raft (5)

    5. Name something that might be full of holes. (Bulgarians)
    Swiss Cheese (40)
Clothes/Socks (16)
Alibi/Story (14)
Net/Fishing Net (9)
Colander/Strainer (8)
Golf Course (2)
Screen (2)
Road/Street (2)

    6. Name something that a doctor might pull out of a person. (Hand Release Merkins)
    A gerbil (32)
A baby (23)
A tumor (15)
A tooth (9)
A bullet (7)

The whole enterprise was worth it for the expression on Shooter’s face when he learned that gerbil was the top answer to this final question (“What is wrong with this world when gerbil is the top answer and stitches aren’t even on there?”). How he went his entire life without hearing the Richard Gere story remains a mystery.

COT and Russo prayed us out. Welcome VTach! Great having you in town and hope we get to see more of you. I’m sure one of us will make it up to a Birmingham AO at some point. And thank you gents for the patience on this one, YHC will definitely give it a go one Saturday where we can properly split up into “families.”

  • Welcome to Hazzard County! – from The Duke of Hazzard

Good golly miss molly, the weather hit this morning! 76 with a nice breeze in early August is a gift from the gods. And as the god of chaos (aka The Duke of Hazard) prepared to make his VQ, the PAX showed in numbers to shake the heavens.

Gentlemen, many thanks for showing up for The Duke’s VQ and following his pint-sized lead. His tentative calls belied his excitement at leading the PAX on a tour of Hazard County!

  • Merkins and Peter Parkers – from Waterpik

It was the last gasp of summer for st Tammany parish and teachers such as Jose 10k who had to jet right after the workout to get to school. For F3, nothing really new was on the docket – it was just merkins and Peter Parker’s inter
Mixed into every turn the pax took on its 4 mile route for the old mandeville scramble.

  • That Ain’t The Way To Have Fun, No – from Steve

With Jose away, the Pax will play – we took a break from the Purple Rain and dove into some Purple Haze on this hot and humid gloom, sweating it out to some 70’s classics (Yes, YHC had to adjust the playlist decade for the Covington crew, which skews slightly older – one day Pickaxe will hopefully be doing the same for me cuz I ain’t working out to no Drake!)

Partnered up at the back of the Justice Center for some 100’s (not the Bushwacker kind): 100 cumulative reps of the following exercises (P1), with P2 running up the courthouse steps and doing 1 Bobby Hurley (temporarily renamed Caitlin Clarks by BBQ) before returning to pick up where P1 left off.

    Squats
    Merkins
    Lunges (2:1)
    Boxcutters
    Freak Nasties
    Alternating Step Ups
    Apollo Ohnos (2:1)
    T-Merkins
    Monkey Humpers
    Flutter Kicks
    Plank Jacks
    Rosalitas
    Crunchy Frogs
    Burpees

Yes, I purposefully buried the burpees with the hopes that we wouldn’t get to them, which worked. Unfortunately, we did get to the T-Merkins, which gave some of the Pax PTSD from Pik’s H8! this past Saturday.

Wrapped it up on the Monkey Humper round – knocked out 40 together before heading back to the flag. BBQ noted that starting with Randy Newman’s Mama Told Me Not to Come was just as appropriate as wrapping things up with The Allman Brothers’ Whipping Post. Touché.

Speaking of BBQ, we checked his hat-o-meter sweat lines at the end of the workout (as has been tradition the last few times I’ve posted) and he surmised this beatdown was one of the top three most sweat-inducing. And while I’d love to take credit for such an achievement, I think if he just laid on the concrete in front of the courthouse he’d probably have sweat just as much.

Moby also then provided a profanity-laced PSA about heat stroke, which is indeed a good reminder for all of us: Don’t be a %#@*$ idiot and mess around with that shit, get yourself some %#@*$ water. Yes sir! (Respect, respect, respect.)

Oh, and it’s unanimous – go watch Your Honor!

COT and Fletch prayed us out with much needed prayers for world peace. Always a pleasure and an honor to be out there with you guys!

  • The Name Fits – from Waterpik

Speedy Gonzalez. Yep that’s right! When he shows up for the scramble, the average
Minute per mile decreases drastically. As in today, where he and Steve ran the last mile of the weekly 5k at a brisk 7:00 per mile. To put it bluntly, the man can move.

The rest of the Pax ran the lakefront route today 3.7 miles at 9:00 minute a mile pace.

Ruckers and runners, we had both.

  • Deck of Death/Doom with Coupons – from Einstein

After a quick warmup, we grabbed the rain soaked coupons (which included some heavy monsters that Jose10K gifted to The Gipper), we deployed the deck – round robin style – with each pax drawing a card and choosing an exercise. We performed the card number of reps using the coupons. Joker draws were a lap around the city water tower triangle.
Everyone had a good sweat going.
    Steve prayed us out.

  • Northshore Flickerball Championship and Upper Body Marshmania – from TruCoat

Saturday’s workout included two activities, an upper-body medley led by The Manny at the Marsh and an intense Flickerball match played by 12 of the Northshore’s best at the 30.4-by-90 pitch. The Marsh beat-down included an expansive kit of training aids, possibly depleting Home Depot’s Garden Center, to challenge grip strength and upper body stamina.

The Flickerball match was preceded with 25 minutes of warm-up exercises–sequences of lunges, sprawls, and push-ups. The match pushed past regular time with back-and-forth play. Game highlights included many bodies sliding out at the end zones in hope of a game winning final touch, potentially trading the integrity of their hamstring for glory. The match halted briefly as Bushwacker selflessly fended off Pontchartrain’s aquatic life to save the game ball. In the final moments of extra time, the defensive wall formed by Dukes, Russo, and Akbar was too much, leading to a quick transition and game winning score by The Hammer. Congrats to Pickaxe and Grappler, too, who were critical ingredients for the win!

  • Sweet smell of success – from Russo

YHC picked up a full-in Q when Steve wasn’t able to make it, so we went to an old standby. I figured to throw some burpees in to help out Jose, but alas he was in the midst of his patented pre-thang thang as I drove up. We were joined by a Shooter and off we went.

    Warmup (all IC, 10x)
    -cherry pickers
    -Arm circles
    -torso twists
    -self love
    -Toe touches
    -high knees

    Thang
Pax knocked out the Deck of Death (exercise and count based on value and suit of the card turned over from a standard deck of playing cards). YHC likes to split the deck into 4 groups to vary up the exercises, with some moseying between rounds.

    Round 1 at the benches
    Hearts – Freak Nastys
    Diamonds – step ups
    Clubs – BSSs
    Spades – Leg Raises

    Round 2 at the fans
    Hearts – SMCs
    Diamonds – wide merkins
    Clubs – monkey humpers
    Spades – gas pumps

Round 3 at the bus stop
Hearts – shoulder tap plank jacks
    Diamonds – durkins
    Clubs – star jumps
    Spades – crunchy frogs

    Round 4 at the stage
    Hearts – jump squats
    Diamonds – donkey kicks
    Clubs – Lunges (2 is 1)
    Spades – wife pleasers

Somewhere along the way, the comment was thrown out about the unpleasant aromas emanating from sweaty mid 40s gents in the near 80 degree humid morning. One of us offered that it was a “sweet smell of success” so we’ll run with that for a while. It was not lost on YHC that in the three of us you probably had the gold, silver, and bronze medals of sweating: dukes of damp, masters of moisture, princes of perspiration. I would venture only Frank could give us a run for the podium.

    Mary

    All 10x IC
    -LMCs
    -Flutter kicks
    -Penguins
    -Rosalitas
    -Box Cutters
    -Freddy Mercurys

    -One minute or so plank

COT, Name-o-Rama, announcements, and prayer closed us out. Thank you gentlemen for joining me and get better Steve!
