  • A Scenic Beatdown

Six men showed up to grow, improve and get stronger. DISCLAIMER and let’s mosey. During the first COP three more men came running up to join us.
    COP:
    -SSH x 30 IC
    -IW x 30 IC
    -Peter Parkers x 20 IC
-Arm Circles x 30 IC (15 each dir.)
    -J-Lo’s x 20 IC
A short mosey to find some open space to run my favorites, 11s. Run across the field do 10 burpees, run back and do 1 LBC. Run back across the field and do 9 burpees, return and do 2 LBCs…keep going until the numbers reverse.
Let’s mosey over to the gazebo and use them benches.
    -Right leg step-ups x 20 IC
    -Dips x 15 IC
    -Left leg step-ups x 20 IC
    -Derkins x 10 IC
Let’s mosey close to the shovel flag and pair up for some Dora (one partner does pushups, the other runs to the fire hydrant and back. The other partner takes over the count of push ups and do 100 as a team. Next is 200 LBCs; then 300 squats.) We stopped short on the squats due to time. I handed of to Chewy for some Mary. He introduced us to the famous, or infamous, Y’s, T’s, I’s and a shoulder drop thing from the plank position. Thanks Chewy for enlightening us with the Physical Therapy skills to strengthen and support our backs.

Times up, countoff, namerama, announcements, shoutouts and a prayer. Let’s mosey over to the Beach House for some coffee and F2.

  • A Breakfast Earned

Thirteen men stepped off looking to improve themselves on the way to earning a big breakfast. After the Disclaimer we moseyed to the front of the museum for a COP:
    -SSH x 30 IC
    -IPW x 30 IC
    -J-Lo’s (fka Pickle Pounders) x 30 IC
-Arm Circles x 30 IC (15 each direction)
    -Peter Parker Push-ups x 20 IC
During the COP, Redfish came rolling in hot on his bike and then Mr. Awesome trotted up…welcome my friends.
It’s been too long so we headed to the Foundry. With 14 men, we divided into 2 groups of 7. One group engaged the foundry and one group did BLIMPS and then we switched.
Foundry: plank up in a line and follow the leader…
    -Pull-ups x 10 or AMRAP
    -Dips x 10 or AMRAP
    -Rows 10 or AMRAP
-Traverse the Monkey Bars and plank and wait
    BLIMPS:
    -Burpees x 5
    -Lunges x 10
    -Imperial Walkers x 15
    -Merkins x 20
    -Plank Jacks x 25
    -Squats x 30
SWITCH. When done both routines, time to hit the bricks with 10 burpees x 2 at both ends of mile running path. Back at the foundry everyone did another set of pull-ups and caught their breath just in time to mosey to the track for some Hades.
1000m of Hades: sprint 400m, walk 100m, sprint 200m, walk 100m, sprint 100m, walk 100m. After a quick water stop, we hit the other outdoor gym for more pull-ups, dips and rows. At this time we came across Bueller who joined us for the finish. Regretfully, time dictates we head back to the shovel/flag, but not without a little Mary.
    -LBC x 20 IC
-Wife Pleasers (or as …. informed us they call it ‘Homer to Marge’) x 20 IC
    -Superman and hold
    Sprint to the Shovel/flag

COT: Count Off, Nameorama, Shout Out. Prayed for Brooks, Goose’s infant with a heart condition, and RY’s aunt with breast cancer. Time for breakfast. The pax headed to YHC’s house nearby where Side Effects cooked Swedish Pancakes, Tool provided the coffee and YHC scrambled eggs. A couple of M’s (including mine) and .2s showed up to enhance the F2 experience. Bonds are formed with the shared misery of the beatdowns, but they are enhanced with the socializing and the sharing of a meal. This needs to become a tradition. The next F2 being planned is a Christmas/Holiday Party.

    See you in the Gloom!

  • Foundry Redux

    -30 LBCs
    -30 Hello Dollies
    -20 Pickle Pounders…again
-20 Wife Pleasers…since we were already making any observers uncomfortable.
Time’s up…sprint to the flag without getting hit by the cars…Frogger-style

    Countoff; Namerama; Announcements; Shoutouts

YHC took the prayer. We expressed our thanks to our creator for giving us the strength, mentally, physically, and spiritually to continue to show and improve ourselves. We prayed for the strength and endurance to continue to try to improve ourselves and to be examples and sources of inspiration for those in our lives; family, friends, coworkers, neighbors and everyone we come across daily.

Then some coffee and some F2.

  • 6 beers 6 bars 6 miles Tchoupitoulas Barathon

Beer 1Meet at Le Bon Temps Roulez for a pre-game beer.  I lost my M before the start of the race and couldn’t find her until the 2nd beer stop at TJ’s because she is too darn fast.  I got to chat with a few of the guys before the start of the race.  At 605 the horn and the first beer is pounded.  It was a rather enjoyable Fat Tire.

Beer 2:  Ran this leg with World Peas and Ecks.  This is a short leg to Reginellis on the corner of Magazine and State.  I was thinking life is easy for this leg.  I passed a few running bananas and tennis outfit people and few tomatoes dressed up like a Japanese cartoon.  I shared my first beer moment with Ecks Roots World Peas Amnesty and Tool.  The race is crazy there is no route and the cars were freaking out wondering how long they would be stuck.  At some point they just decided to drive and if a “dumb” runner got in their way- well…tough luck for the runner.  Drank my second Fat Tire at Regis.

Beer 3:  The 2nd longest leg from Regis to TJ Quills on Maple.  A good  1.75  mile run.  Roots and I started with the group but we left them to meet up later.  My wife had ditched me and I was trying to catch up.  Roots and YHC kept a nice 8.09 pace to the bar. We chose to run down ST Charles Ave.    At Quills we met the gang but we didn’t stay long and we were off to Patois on Webster.  The beer served was terrible.   Lost the F3 boys until after the race at this point.

Beer 4: This is the longest leg at 2 miles.  I thought I might have to give up due to the beer but I was able to push through the pain thanks to Roots talking to me through the pain.  Arrived at Patois and had a beer with some nice Costa Ricans.  Watched some runners in suits act like idiots.  Drank a cold Miller lite here – which was fine at this point.  The lighter the better after 3.

Beer 5:  We left Patois for the short run to Dos Jefes.  Dos Jefes had WARM beer.  Were they trying to make us barf?  Anyway we stayed only a second here.  Too many knuckleheads smoking cigars and I couldn’t hang so we pushed it to the last bar stop – Grits.

Beer 6.  Grits was great and at this point you know you are only 2 blocks away from the finish line and you can make that even with 6 beers in your belly.  We drank our beer.  Hung out a bit then pushed to the finish.  Got to finish a race with M who is always too fast for me – so that was cool.  I also got to the finish line with Roots and Ecks so that was pretty cool too.  F2 baby!

Next year I hope to get more of the guys out for this event.  It is one of my favorite races in NOLA.  If you are a tourist this is the absolute best way to see the Uptown neighborhood.  Maybe next year we can send an invite to the F3 pax and get some out of towners for this one.

At the finish line I collected my coozie, my tshirt, my poster and then had another beer.  Not even a buzz – how is that possible!?  I finished that beer with Ecks, Roots, Amnesty, and Tool.  Whatever happened to World Peas?

Anyway at 830pm they brought out the Watermelon for the traditional sacrifice. And that was the official end of the 2015 (34th) Tchoupitoulas Barathon.   Good times!
