  • Now I’ve Seen Everything on Bourbon Street

There is a lot a crazy things on Bourbon Street, and YHC has seen some sights….but 7 men rucking down Bourbon was a first for me.  The Pax of seven gathered at 1830 hours on St. Charles & First for our first official NOLA Ruck event.

    The Thang

Started rucking out towards the Quarter. Lots of mubblechatter and information flying around from the veteran GRTers about equipment, necessities, tips and advice for the upcoming GrowRuck03. We maintained about an 18 minute pace with all the traffic, bathroom, Lucky Dog, hydration (aka beer) stops that we did.  A few highlights were discussing a new, special-event AO out in Woldenberg Park…it’s like a combined AO with all our existing AOs.  Another one was our ruck through Bourbon Street…where else can you ruck and listen to a jazz band, eat a lucky dog, watch a magic show, and avoid the eerie Bourbon Street water puddles…it hasn’t rained in over 5 days.

Made it back to Avenue Pub, where quality F2 was had by all. We rucked about 5.25 miles by the end of it. We will do this again real soon!

    Moleskin

GrowRuck03 is happening 06.10.17.  Do it!

Week 0 of GRT Training is in full swing… the requirements for Week 0 are due by Sunday, 04/16. Here are the requirements:
    1) Sign up at this link here
    2) Assemble your ruck with the required weight: 20lbs (4 bricks) for Pax weighing less than 150lbs, 30lbs (6 bricks) for everyone else.

Tclaps to Heisenberg for getting this Ruck Event kicked off!

  • It’s Not Heavy, It’s My….

    …..my 50 pound sandbag…

Four men dedicated to training for and successfully completing the upcoming GoRuck gathered around the S/F, ready to Ruck and Roll. After extensive research of training and preparing for a GoRuck, one of the many reoccurring themes is the old pass around the 50lb sandbag while rucking…se we did. We stepped off and proceeded through the park, around the museum and up the bayou to the turnaround point, the Orleans Ave bridge. Each member averaged carrying the sandbag about 5 min before passing it off. This was truly an enlightening experience…and humbling as well.

At the S/F: countoff, namerama, announcements, shoutouts, prayer. What a great way to start the day!

REMEMBER: Rock Out With Your Ruck Out!!!

  • Ruck the Foundry

We stepped off with seven and finished with eight. Wait! Who is this we see but Out For Justice. After convincing us he knew it wasn’t Saturday, we stepped off. DISCLAIMER and let’s mosey. Pax with rucks head straight to Foundry, those without run to Carrolton and then the Lil Foundry. Heard that Bubba???…the Lil Foundry….

We had six stations with the Flutter Kicks as the timer. Keep your rucks on if you can…except the Flutter Kicks.
    Sta. 1. Flutter Kicks x 50 IC
    Sta. 2. Merkins
    Sta. 3. Squats
    Sta. 4. Pull-ups
Sta. 5. Step ups with a ruck; box jumps without
    Sta. 6. Dips

In the middle of our second circuit, Da Parrish showed up. Was he looking for us??? Was he on a run and stumbled upon our workout??? Who knows???!!! After two circuits it was “Play Time”…yep, Burpee Play. Drop your rucks if you have em, 15 burpees OYO. Feeling so, light…

Time for playing is over, Round 3. Halfway through round 3 we ran out of time, but not desire… Non-ruckers run around the museum and back to the flags…ruckers take us home…

Countoff, namerama, announcements, shoutouts, Ball of Man! See you in the Gloom!

  • The Spartacus Thriller

As some of us continue our training for the GoRuck, the rest get to train along with us. Six of us followed the normal protocol while Rudy modified and ran the whole time as he is training for a Half Marathon.

    -J-Lo’s x 20 IC

    -Kettlebell Swing w/ rock
    -T-Pushups

There’s just enough time to send the rocks home and head to the flag. T-Claps to Heisenberg for joining YHC in wearing the rucks during the workout.

Jingle Vader showed with only one glove; Michael Jackson….”The Thriller”…

COT: countoff, namerama, announcements, shoutouts and a prayer. See you in the Gloom!

-2nd station – pull-ups/hands with ruck on the rings
-3rd station – step ups on a bench with ruck on (QIC called an audible after realizing the monkey bars wouldn’t work)
As we rucked back to the “Quarry” so FNG-Forrest could drop his rock, we enjoyed a couple rounds of “Say Anything” (rucking and holding ruck/rock above your head)
At the “Quarry” we had time for a little Mary.
    -20 x LBC IC
    -20 x Hello Dollys IC
    Outta time…head back to Shovel-Flag.

It was good to have FNG-Forrest join us today. After the count off and the namerama, we thanked the Lord for the strength to be there with our brothers to improve ourselves and to continue to give us the strength and endurance to continue posting at these workouts. We also prayed to allow us to help those in our lives to grow in His name. Amen!

See you tomorrow at the 610 Stomp #3

  • Ruck City #2

Three Ruckers met in the Metairie gloom for the now traditional last Monday of the month Rucksack Workout at #RockCity.  Jazzy’s Hello Kitty Ruck was in the possession of his daughter, so he modified with a rock sans ruck.

    Moleskin

Nice change of pace today with the Rucksacks.  Gives us some variety.  YHC really liked the upright rows and the Russian Swings, which you can’t really do with the rock.

    Shout Out

We prayed for Keith Collins.  We thanked God that our community has been blessed with Dr. Collins and his family.  We are thankful for the man and father that he is.  We continue to pray for a miracle.

  • Ruck City #1

One Marine and 3 civilians hit the gloom for the first ever New Orleans F3 #RuckCity workout.  YHC bubble wrapped some concrete bricks from Lowe’s.  They weigh about 5 pounds each.  Yankee went with some all-natural bricks, hoping they would not tear up his ruck.  Amnesty chose to fill his ruck with one of the native rocks, wisely bringing a plastic back for protection, and Jazzy was confused as to why we brought backpacks to the workout.

    The Thang

    • Mosey to the #RockPile for our warm-up
    • Warm-up COP: SSH IC x 30; Good Mornings IC  x 10; Windmills IC x 15; Forward Arm-Circles IC x 15;  Backward Arm-Circles IC x 15
    • Amnesty and Jazzy select their rock. Then Mosey to the hill
    • 11s on the hill. Run up and over the hill ruck-on.  Merkins on each side.  Completed 110 merkins when all was said and done.
    • Mosey to the far side playground
    • Negative pull-ups ruck-on. Partners assist with first pull-up if needed.  Slowly lower self during 10-count.  Completed 2 sets of 3 reps.
    • Mosey to bike pump pavilion.
    • Left Leg Step-up Ruck-on IC x 20 followed by Right Leg Step-up Ruck-on IC x 20
    • Mosey to the to the water fountain for hydration and 7 more merkins.
    • Amnesty and Jazzy return their rocks and we all mosey to the flag.

    Moleskin

YHC was glad to be back after missing the last couple of #RockCity workouts.  T-claps to Amnesty, RY, and Jazzy for being such a faithful #RockCity krewe.  Double T-claps to RY for cooling down with an extra 2 miles.

    Shout Out

Thanks to God for His grace and mercy.  We prayed for those traveling and those facing sickness.
