  • Who Dat!

Many PAX were hurting after celebrating a Saints Victory, and yet 19 men gathered in the gloom for a Monday Morning Beatdown.

    Warmup:

Run around golf loop to bandstand

Arm Circles x 10 each Forward and Backwards (with Seaman voice from the Pax)

    Grass Grabber x 10

    Peter Parker x 20

    Parker Peter x 20

Since Seaman was not present to protest 10 Monday burpees were then called at the first light on Oak Alley. Next we Bear Crawled/Crab Walked/Lunge Walked to the Track where the Pax waited in a Low Plank for the 6. Much mumblechatter was heard regarding the long distance Bear Crawl.

Next we ran to the Audubon Statue for some Dora 1-2-3.

    Durkins x 100

    Jump Lunge x 200

    Floyd Mayweathers x 300

Those that finished were lead by King Kong in LBCs and then 50 Rocky Balboas.

Finally we ran Fartleks down to Magazine alternating between a sprint and slow mosey at the Stop Sign for a total of 3 laps.

Finally the beatdown finished with Dips, 20 LBCs and a mosey back to the flag.

The workout concluded with a COT, a special prayer was said to lift up Bellhop and thoughts and prayers to Da Parish and his family.

  • Friday 13th

Thirty something men assembled in the gloom under a full moon to celebrate Friday the 13th. Apparently the next time a full moon falls on Friday the 13th is 2049 so I hope y’all enjoyed it. I also hope Jadaveon will remeber all of us when he is the sole memebr of the PAX around to enjoy it again. Disclaimer was given and the Mother Ruckers spilt off to walk and tak. The remaining pax headed to the circle of palms to commence the beatdown.

    WARMUPS

SSH X 49 (this really irritated Mariah)

Arm Circles fore and aft. Was Seaman there? 10 Fore and 10 Aft

    Grass Grabbers X 20 (Pulled a Hammy)

    Merkins X 20

    THE THANG

Mosey to the base of the mount. 2 lines. Indian run to the top.

1st group runs and tags opposite wall. 2nd stays and does 5 Burpees. Groups switch and go until 25 burpees are done.

Next same with something I cant remember then once more with Merks. Whatever it was was a pretty good workout. I was cussing the Q the entire time.

    PEOPLES CHOICE MARY

    Circled up for some Mary

    JV suggested Doc W’s

    Peaches suggested Penguins

    Somebody came up with LBC’s

There were others but the full moon wiped my hard drive.

    BENCHES

After the mount we descended the stairs (Yankee is hands down the fastest stair descender amongst the PAX) and grabbed some benches for some quick leg work/ dips

    LLSU X 20

    Dips X 20

  • Killer B’s at Birdcage Iron Pax Week #1

Posted in a million degree weather with 1000% humidity to start this IPC.

Meet at the lawn by the ZOO! Line up.

Broad jump 10 yards, 10 burpees, 10 bonnieblairs, and 10 big bois, broad jump 10 yards do it again, and broad jump 10 yards and do it again.

Bear Crawl back to start line and do it again – 5 times

Easy if you write it – hard if you do it.

Tclaps to Happy Little Trees and G-Spot for the sub-20 finish. I think if you did it again you could shave another 30 secs or so off your time.

The early finishers ran laps around the course while the rest of the PAX finished.

While this contest is you vs everyone – it is also you vs you. I’d love to pull out the KILLER Bs in January and have you compare your times – I am sure you would see some great results.

Great work and here are the results by time. We need to keep participating every week!

  • Four play Fore

There were no holes-in-one, but this is two backblasts-in-one…

FIRST: Typical turnout at Wolfpack Mountain with a sub-krewe of ruckers showing up for their training. Those compact packs easily outweigh a fully stocked golf bag. Serious respect.

Quick warm-up with SSH, mountain climbers, grass grabbers, and then mosey to WPM. YHC intended for all the golf participants to captain a team in order to earn mulligans during the tournament later that morning. Alas, only FracSac and yours truly emerged so we divided in half.

Bulk of the workout was ascending WPM with stops every level for 5 burpees, 10 merkins, and 20 air squats. Team FracSac prevailed and we regathered at the top for a round of Mary. Walking lounges across the top level, down the stairs to the benches for dips, and hustle back to the flag. Plank to failure rounded things out.

SECOND: Four of us played golf. It was a blast.

    These guys played golf.
(l-r: Babyface, FracSac, Quiche, Nine Lives)

Although turnout was lighter than expected, we still managed to have a great time. Quiche had to peel off shortly after the turn, I had to bail on 16 (s-l-o-w), but by all reports Babyface and FracSac finished out the 18 and crowned themselves inaugural co-champions.

Despite the low numbers, we learned a lot about the timing and format so be on the lookout for future golf details. We’re thinking next time will be in the late fall in City Park on a Saturday. More to come on that front…

    SYITG,

    Nine Lives

Thanks for giving me the opportunity to lead and thanks for the help with the cadence.
Who would have thought it would be that hard to count to 20. A little advise for those doing their first Q. Add more exercises than you’ll need in your routine. It goes by fast.
Very little hazing from Seamen and Angies’s List.

  • It’s about that time for….

A disclaimer? No, that’s just what we have to do at the beginning of these beatdowns.  So, with a disclaimer, we are off!

Mosey to lawn in front of Loyola for warm up with a little help from my friends!

    • Alternating Open Gates IC X20
    • Imperial Walkers with help from Gideon IC X20
    • Kim Jong Uns aka Supreme Leaders IC X20’s
    • Low Slow Squats with help from Thumb Wars IC X20
    • Olivia Newton John’s IC X20 (brought these PAX-pleasers from the Fly Q)

Nice job Triple Shift for suggesting Co-Q’s to newish PAX to help them get acclimated to leading.  I think it will pay off.

Mosey to bottom of Mountain for:

Here it is…It’s been awhile…Yes it’s time for…Indian Run to top of Mountain!  PAX form 3 lines and up we go!  Can’t remember last time we did this at WPM.  6 floors, Incline run with sprints, 80 plus degrees with Heat Index in the 90’s.  We got this PAX!  Let’s GO!

    Ok.  That was tough.

At top, partner up for B.O.M.B.S. All below counts are cumulative.  PAX one runs down top ramp and back to top running backwards while PAX two completes exercises.  Flapjack till reps are complete.

    • 50 Burpees
    • 100 OH Press in People’s Chair
    • 150 Merkins
    • 200 Big Boy Sit-Ups  (had to modify these to 150 because they were taking some time)
    • 250 Squats (modified these to 200)

Got some comments on mumblechatter about butt-burn from the Big Boy Sit-Ups.  I call that Character Building!  My job is done.

Down stairs and mosey to Bench’s for:

    • Bulgarian Split Squats L IC X15
    • Dips IC X20
    • Bulgarian Split Squats R IC X15

Time is running short.  Mosey back to flag for count-off, name-o-rama, intentions and prayer.

  • Mahatma Modified

Oh sure, Mahatma will blame it on being unable to hear the Q, or faulty Q instructions, or the Q just not knowing what the heck he was doing. All of which might be true. But on this glorious morning in City Park, Mahatma Modified.

06:15: YHC joined Rev-Sox and others at the Peristyle for a round of prayer and stretching Thank you, Rev Sox, for getting this started. What a great way to welcome the morning and get ready for the workout.

06:25: YHC bolts from the Peristyle to try and get back to MOMA and the Muscleship in time for his Q. Arrives at 6:28:30 to see a group of PAX questioning whether their Q would arrive. As expected, Bogey seemed to be in charge of the muttering and grumbling. Welcome back, Bogey!

06:30: With a disclaimer, PAX are off – short mosey (WATCH OUT FOR THE CARS) to the Great Lake for a quick warmup watching the sunrise. SSH, Windmills, IW, Grass grabbers. Just enough to get the heart pumping. Then an Indian Run over to the Cinderblocks to get started.

    The Thing

    Grab a cinderblock.

Round 1: Shoulder Press, Curl, Row x20. Then bear crawl about 30-40 yards, dragging your cinderblock. Some PAX took to throwing the cinderblock. YHC decided that was legal form, as long as PAX did not leave bear crawl form. Much fun had by all, so do the same – and bear crawl back to the starting line.

Bogey relied on a note from his “doctor” (going by the name “Walleye”) as an excuse to modify his bear crawl.

Round 2: Shoulder Press, Curl, Row x15. Then duck walk the same distance, again dragging your cinderblock. Again, throwing was deemed acceptable as long as one did not egregiously abandon duck walk stance. Then repeat and return to the starting line.

Pop Tart’s form is impeccable. All duck-walking-wannabes: take time to watch Pop Tart, and marvel at how his butt can be that close to the grass whilst he walks. Watch and learn and imitate. YHC’s form is, uh, less-good than that.

Round 3: Shoulder Press, Curl, Row x10. This time crab walk the same distance, again dragging your cinderblock. As YHC started his trek across the field – he saw the sight he never expected to see. Mahatma not following instructions. Instead of dragging, he CARRIED his cinderblock in his lap while crab-walking. Now – that may be just as hard, if not harder. But none-the-less – IT WAS A MODIFICATION.

Return the cinderblocks. We’ve got more stuff to do.

    More Things

Quick stop by Tool’s Wall for 2 rounds of Calf-Raise/Monkey Humber combo.

Quick stop by the Foundry for everyone to get 10 full Pull Ups in. PAX plank while groups went to get their 10 done – using spotter’s as necessary. And for YHC, spotting was definitely necessary (thank you, Mahatma!)

Indian Run back to the field for a game YHC learned in Houston.

    Ka-Burpee

Divide into two teams each taking half of a very-imprecisely laid out field (roughly 15 yards across, each half about 30 yards deep). The game:

PAX from one team crosses the line. Has 30 seconds to tag one member of the other team, then race back across the line to his original side of the field. Upon tagging an opponent, all members of opposing team do 1 burpee, then try to catch the tagger before he crosses back over the line. If the tagger is caught, his team does 5 burpees. If not, the taggee’s team does 5 more burpees.

Trust me, it makes a bit more sense when you actually play it.

Cycle through until everyone gets a turn as tagger. Strategies evolved, including Walleye using a Full Takedown maneuver to ensure Tanner would not make it back over the line. Nicely played!

    COT

Hydrate hydrate hydrate. Then circle up for count-off, announcements (including a definition of CSAUP – Complete Stupid and Utterly Pointless event. Lets get some on the calendar!) Then clone in for a very very sweaty ball of man, and finish with a prayer – as always for YHC, ending with St. Ignatius’ Prayer for Generosity.

Thank you all for allowing me the opportunity to lead.

  • A Good Ole Fashion Beat Down!

It was an extremely humid morning at the Birdcage where 32 PAXs came together for a good ole fashion beat down! After the standard disclaimer and identification of FNGs (there were 2), we proceeded to mosey into the field in front of Audubon Zoo for warm up exercises.  I an effort to encourage more PAX to join the Q sheet, I voluntold Quincy and Moist to each lead an exercise.

Warm up Exersises consisted of the following all in cadence:

SSH x20, Windmills x10 (lead by Quincy), Forward Arm Circles x10, Backwards Arm Circles (Seaman style) x10, Self Love x10

The PAX then made their way to the front of the Zoo, partnered up and had a DORA 1,2,3 consisting of 100 Merkins, 200 Bobby Hurley’s, 300 Freddie Mercury’s (1:1). While one pax was exercising their partner was running the loop. Once the lap was completed, the PAX switched. The count was cumulative, and this process continued until all reps were complete.

Once DORA was complete, the PAX mosyed to the pull up station, broke up into 6 groups.  Pull ups x10 was the count, while the rest of groups were Hillbillies, Plank Jacks, Squats, Hurpees, and LBCs. The Pax rotated through each group.

The workout was concluded with a round of Mary and some stretching. The exercises were as follows, all in cadence:

    Penguins x 15, LBCs (lead by Moist) x15, Hello Dolly x 15, Freddie Mercury’s x15

The COT ensued with the Count off, Nameorama, announcements, and closing prayer. We welcomed two FNGs this morning Two Wrongs and LittleTiny Tree

  • Halfway to 70

Can’t think of a better way to spend the day after my birthday than getting sweaty with a bunch of dudes.

I never thought I would feel better at 35 than I did at 25. I owe it all to F3 and all of you guys for giving me a reason to wake up at 5AM and sweat my ass off. Big thanks to everyone that made it out to celebrate my birthday beatdown with me.

Short jog to the Tulane sign and circled up.

    • 35 SSH
    • 15 Grass grabbers
    • 35 Mountain climbers
    • 15 Peter Parkers

    Mosey’d to the benches:

Mosey’d to the garage for the crowd favorite Indian Run all the way up.

Once at the top of the mountain we split into pairs for some Dora. One person ran all the way to the bottom of the stairs and back up the other stairs while the partner did the following:

    • 50 Burpees
    • 100 Jump squats
    • 200 Shoulder taps

Sang Kumbaya while we watched the sunrise and then mosey’d back to the flag for COT.
