  • 55s – from Rudy

Whew. It was Hot and Muggy. No wind. Just moisture lingering in the air. High Rise and I staring at watches, wondering if it was going to be a Man Date or not. But SOGO, Frac and Saban rolled in hot – so 5 of us set off to the levee.

Top of the levee for a quick warmup of stretching, Imperial Walkers, and SSH. Today is the last day of YHC’s 55th trip around the sun, so I pulled up a playlist representing top hits from my 18th birthday year – August of 1985.

The Thing: Modifying the “40” to be a “55”. Each round is 55 reps of the exercise. 11 at the start, over the levee for 11 more, back for 11, back over for 11, back to the start for 11.

    Round 1: Hand Release Merkins
    Round 2: Big Boy Situps
Round 3: Monkey Humpers. SOGO attacked by ants, so he got a pass on this one.

Damn, its hot. 20 count Frac

    Round 4: Plank Walks.
    Round 5: Heels to Heaven
    Round 6: Slow Squats

Still hot. 10 counts sprinkled around for everyone.

    Round 7: Peter Parkers

Mosey to the top of the levee for some mary, then back to the flag.

COT: It is *HOT*. Everyone, be careful out there. Praying for the health and well being of the many homeless in our city who are bearing this heat without the benefits that most of us take for granted.

  • Murph Training – from Rudy

Okwata – the home of the pull-up bars. And YHC is definitely going to need help with pull-ups, if he is to have any hope of completing a Murph this year. And since there is no Try, only Do – YHC grabbed the Q with the intent of starting to work those Lats.

Joined by 5 other PAX, the group set-off from the Flag, looking out at a dark red sunrise over the lake – best AO in the country, IMHO…

Brief warm-up with some stretching, Peter Parkers and Imperial Walkers. Then off to the fountain.

Thing 1: Double-shot at the bar: Jack Webbs up to 10, with presses in the People’s Chair.
Thing 2: Escalator – 5 workout stations, 6th person running the lap around the fountain. Two rounds including left & right step-ups, sit ups, dips and irkins.

    Up to the Levee!

Indian Bear Crawl – give everyone a shot at a bear crawl “sprint” to the front.

    Thing 3: Quadrophelia!
Thing 4: Finish up at the House of Pain for the same Escalator style. Squats, Merkins, Situps, Pull-Ups and a Spotter. 6th person running over the levee.

Finish up back at the flag for some Wife Pleasers (apparently called “Me-Pleasers” by the uptowners)

    NMM:

Weather was glorious this morning. Humidity down, gentle breeze. Almost makes me forget that I hate summer in the South.

Thank you, Snooze. I think you did more work spotting (lifting) me for the pull-ups than I did. But I gotta start somewhere.

High Rise: Damn. Flying through those pull-ups. You’re ready for a murph right now.

Great seeing you out in the gloom, SOJO. And I’m glad it was the *guns* that were out.

Sorry, Frac: no burpees today. Come on out to WPM tomorrow….

Saban: I think I heard grumbling and cursing during Quadrophelia. You’re welcome.

  • The Kids are Alright – from Fracsac

In a harmonious blend of serenity and energy, the kids at the Children’s Museum embarked on a unique journey of self-discovery through the practice of yoga. Amidst the vibrant exhibits, they embraced the stillness of the moment, finding their inner calm and exploring the gentle movements and breathing techniques. Their young bodies gracefully flowed through various poses, connecting mind, body, and spirit. Meanwhile, YHC ventured alone into the tranquil oasis of Okwata, where they allowed the rhythmic cadence of their footsteps to sync with the beating heart of nature. The kids and YHC, though engaged in separate pursuits, found solace and strength in their respective activities, reminding us that through yoga or a solitary run, they were indeed alright, nourishing their souls and embracing the beauty of self-care.

  • Happy Belated Birthday to me! – from Fracsac

I tried the ChatGPT program and I think I spent more time trying to get it to send me something useful than I would have had I just wrote the backblast. Now I’ve doubled my time on a BB.

9 Pax posted at Okwata. Jesus Juice, Snooze, Cracklin, SOGO, Cheesesteak, Bongo, Gabrielle, Pho (DR) and YHC.

Circle the fountain and form up in the grass for a warmup, which ended with 10 x 8 count body builders and the Motivator!

Mosey to the levee for disperse people’s run. Finish at Canal and test the new H8 course with 4 corners, following the path of the H8 with bear crawls on the new concrete.

Partial Route 66 to get to 51 burpees at the lakefront, then back to the levee for quadraphilia.

Back to the vsf and 2 burpees to hit 53 from the Route 66.

Thankful for another year with my F3 brothers that help me to be a better man.

  • Belated 48th B-Day and Jazz Fest Preview – from Bongo

Actual Birthday is 5/1 but I just didn’t have the availability to Q earlier this week. This this time of year has always been great for me, birthday, great weather, festival season and all else, what could go wrong? Glad to see (6) other PAX showed up for the occasion, concerned they would choose Yoga over me.

    Here is what we did:

SSH X 28 — intended to do 48 but the rhythm and coordination was so off I had to cut short. I am a drummer and should be better on this and struggle with keeping everyone in same motion….

    IWX 24
    Mountain Climbers X 24
Arm circles X 8 each way
Self Love – on our own

    (4) corners – (12) Burpees, (24) jump squats, (36) Merkins, (48) LBCs for each station run up levee and down, lunges across. We did this twice.

4:08 of Quadrophenia up and down the levee.

Then Indian run back to flag and hit the Lakefront for the exercise Dice rolling and watch sunset for last 15:00. Plus listen to some preview music for the Locals Thursday of the festival. I forgot what exercises we rolled but here is the playlist if you could hear it:

    1. Feels Like Rain – Buddy Guy (Good catch Mahatma, yes it is a cover of John Hiatt song)
    2. Four Sticks – Bonerama
    3. No one to depend on – Santana
    4. Life is for Living — Santana
    COT, countoff, names, announcements, prayers,

Later that day a wonderful day at the fest. Thanks for the opportunity to lead, I know I need to do it more.

See you on the radio – Bongo.

  • 4×20 on 420 – from Rudy

Delightful gloom at the lakefront! 8 PAX celebrated 420 day. Thanks to all of the millenials who were able to explain to YHC *why* 420 is now associated with weed. Rest assured, no weed was present at the workout.

Mosey to the foot of Canal Street for a quick warm up, then lets get to work.

4×20: Run up/across/down/across. At each corner, 20 reps of an exercise.
    * Hand Release Merkins (Jesus Juice notes that “4 sets didn’t sound so hard when we started”)
    * Big Boy SitUps (High Rise wants Crunches. YHC says “Listen to the Q”)
    * Lunges (Glitter Balls rejects the “2 is 1” count, YHC concurs. 1 is 1 it is)
    * Peter Parkers (Kuch – my gosh, the man is a never ending stream of conscience. QUIET PLEASE)

Head to the top of the levee – 10 burpees OYO.

    4:20 of Quadrophelia

Off to the house of pain for 1 round (all we had time for)
    * Pull Ups (Ya Mom and Dem casually knocked out about 75 pull ups. Impressive)
    * Step Ups
    * Crunches
    * Up the hill for 5 burpees

Back to the flag for a last 5 burpees and a few rounds of Mary

    COT, Name-o-Rama. There’s a lot of 39 year olds out here…

Be on the lookout for the 40th Lake View beer run in the coming months.

Intentions and a prayer to close out a glorious morning.

  • BLIMPS, BLIMPS and BLIMPS – from Rudy

Just like the title said, 4 PAX (2 on-time, 2 rolling in hot) joined YHC for a morning of BLIMPS at Okwata.

Blimps 1: A Ladder. Starting on top of the levee with 5 burpees. Run down and back up. 5 Burpees, 10 Lunges. Down and Up. Keep adding the rest of the IMPS.

Respite with 4 minutes of Quadrophelia

    Mosey to Canal

Blimps 2: 5 Burpees on top, 5 more down at the stop sign. Run back to the top. Lunges on top and bottom. Back up. Keep adding the rest of the IMPS.

    Mosey across the street

Blimps 3: Alternate Bear Crawl and Mosey, a traditional BLIMPS using the lightposts. Got back to the starting point about 30 seconds late.

COT with announcements (lots of upcoming runs and events) and intentions.

  • Jumped at Okwata – from Fracsac

It was a dark and stormy night, which meant Okwata would be a slosh fest. With that YHC arrived early to scope things out and prepare. See NMM for the details of that.

3 other Pax joined YHC to bring the awesome foursome. Disclaimer given, the mosey to the front of the fountain for warmup. Regular stuff, but intentionally did not go straight into SSH based on a discussion with some fellow pax Monday night.

Double shots with Jack Webb at the Barre:

1 merkin with 2 air presses in people’s chair
2 merkins with 4 air presses
Continue up to 10 and 20.

Mosey to the lakefront for Reverse Route 66:
11 burpees at first light pole then 10 at next light pole and continued down to 1.

Do some merkins at light poles on our way to the planters near Canal. Step ups, dips and box jumps.

Mosey to Canal for 11s with squats and squat jumps. Got about halfway through before calling it and heading back to the flag.

    CoT

    NMM

    -We got 2.73 miles in

-When YHC arrived early, someone from a nearby parked car asked if they could get a jump. I was alone and my guard went up. Of course I wanted to help, but I also read about the robberies and car jackings in the City. So I stalled until Cheese Steak arrived, then approached the vehicle. Who would mess with Cheese Steak, right? Then Wilson and JV came in.
We were able to help, but the car wouldn’t keep running, and I’m lacking mechanic skills.
Strength in numbers right? I was relieved to see a few of my brothers show up and be there for me.
We started 7 minutes late, and went over 7 minutes for the full 45 minutes by unanimous consensus.
    -Shoes stayed relatively dry.

  • 3/5/7/9….100 Burpees for MABA – from Triple Shift

I finally completed my 8 block (An F3 goal setting tool to increase your health, relationships, faith, and leadership) and I committed to Qing at least twice a month so with only 2 weeks left in January, I had to get on it so I signed up for Okwata. Here is the link if you want more info on the 8 Block.

With the weather a cold 48 degrees and 15 mph wind, it was brisk to say the least and I was hoping no one would show up so I could go back home. Alas, that didn’t happen which I am thankful that JV, Fracsac, and Cheese Steak showed up to hold me accountable.

We headed to the House of Pain with a 50 lb. sandbag and a 35 lb. kettlebell while doing our best to keep our feet dry. Start off with the Warmorama. 20 SSH, 10 Tempo LLS, 10 Tempo Merkins, 10 Self Love, 10 Open the Gate and 10 Close the Gate all done IC. Now that we are all warm, we proceed to the main event.
10 – 2 minute rounds which consist of 3 pull ups, 5 burpees, 7 squats (with or without the weights) and 9 glute bridges.
    Proceeded by
4 – 2 minute rounds of 5 burpees, 10 froggers, and 10 Bulgarian Split Squats (each leg)

Busted out another 40 burpees at the end to get an even 100 for MABA!

COT – Prayers of gratitude for F3 and the health we have to make a positive difference in this broken world. Being weak, sickly and in poor health is not a good condition to be in if you desire to help others.

  • Soggy Shoes – from Rudy

YHC warned the PAX that it was going to be a soggy shoe day. The overnight rain came through as expected, and sure enough – the grounds of Okwata were as soggy as I hoped. Much to my surprise, the Lakeview PAX made a strong showing. Perhaps rumors of the collective fear of water are overstated. 530, time to start with our disclaimer (and one last reminder to expect wet shoes) and mosey to get started.

Warmup: after about a 15 yard mosey, warm up with Open the Gate (PAX were quite insistent on Close the Gate as well, which they earned after a 5 burpee “just be quiet” penalty). Some Grass Grabbers, Abe Vigodas, SSH and Imperial Walkers to get the blood moving.

Thing 1: Across the soggy grounds to the Levee. Quadrophelia. Does an Okwata workout really count if you don’t do Quadrophelia? Discuss amongs yourselves.

Thing 2: Mosey 10 yards along the top of the levee. From the way-back-machine, found reference to a Triple Nickel. Lets do it. 5 exercises. Each exercise is 3 sets of 5 reps. Start at the top of the levee – down one side for 1 set, back to the top for 2nd set, down the other side for 3rd set, back to the top to plank and wait. Sit Ups – PAX grumbling that more than their shoes were getting wet. Hand Release Merkins – yup, lets get the front side wet and dirty too. Jump Squats, Dr Ws and wrap up with Carolina Dry Docks.

Thing 3: 4 groups at the House of Pain. Bear Crawl up the levee, 3 burpees, bear crawl back down (timer). Pull Ups, Sit Ups, Hand Release Merkins. Got through 2 cycles. If there was any remaining doubt about shoes – the 6 inch puddle under the pull up bars solved that problem.

Thing 4: Across the street to the planters for a few rounds of RLSU, LLSU, Dips, Box Jumps

COT: Cracklin’, we’ve got your back through prayer and action. QSource on Language, which gave YHC a chance to talk about one of my NY Resolutions: to better watch my own language – not only remove cursing, but also enhance the quality of my language. Speak intentionally, reflect not only the person I am but the person I hope to be.

Thanks for the chance to lead – and trust me, the shoes should be dry by Okwata next week.
