  • 1 year convergence – Happy Anniversary F3 NOLA

Pre-thang:  A beautiful morning and a whole bunch of people hanging out around the space where a flag would normally be.  No flags to start our workout…oh well.  I bet one shows up.  Even with race for the cure in the park we were able to take 27 PAX for an anniversary tour of City Park.  It was exciting mix of old and new guys

Short mosey to great lawn for warmup COP:

Plank jacks, Hillbilly’s, Mtn. Climbers, SSH x 25 In Cadence.

    Continue warmup with BLIMPS:
    Burpin Merk Jumps x 5
    Lunges x 10 each leg
    Imperial Walkers x 15
    Merkins x 20
    Peter Parkers x 25
    Squats x 30

Mosey to museum fountain: Derkins x 15, step ups x 20, Incline Merkins x 20, step ups x 20, Dips x 20. All in cadence.

Mosey to old golf course for 11’s — run over tee box hill and do 10 Burpees. Run back and do 1 squat. Continue until 1 Burpee and 10 squats. Plank up and wait for the six.  Shorty found us at this point – Tclaps for driving an hour from Luling to join the pax.  Now the flag was in its proper place.

Mosey to water fountain and “line up” doing LBC’s while PAX rehydrated for a few minutes.   Lots of curious race for the cure runners at the water fountain.

Mosey to softball field for a pushorama: Home plate/Merkins. First base/Larry Craigs. Second base/Diamond Merkins. Third base/Chuck Norris. Seven men at each base. Perform the designated exercise x 10 in cadence, then run to next base until all four exercises are done.   Lots of groans about this exercise.

Mosey back to Great Lawn for a few minutes of Mary: LBC’s x 25, Hello Dolly x 20, Real Freddie x 15.

Sprint back to shovel flag for COT…

Hawgcycle led our prayer by referencing Sways awesome post about #pushingtherock

    push the rock

Tclaps to Hawg for encouraging the guys to come out and join us

Welcome to the F3 NOLA family to our 6 FNGS

Tclaps to all of the F3 PAX at the Mudrun in South Carolina

Tclaps to all of the guys who EH’d a FNG

Tclaps to ROOTS for a solid Q

Happy anniversary to us!  Let’s grow this thing even bigger this year.

  • 610 Stomp #10 – The Force Awakens

I am not the sharpest tool in the shed.  I walked out of my house and realized I had left my truck at my M’s office about a half-mile away.  I grabbed the bike and started out – train.  Anyway, YHC got there a couple of minutes late, but the pax was still there, probably expecting me to be cutting it close.  5 other Stompers were waiting, 4 members of the regular krewe and Jingle Vader, fka Jazzy, ready for his inaugural 610 stomp.

    The Thang

4.5 miles with burpees oyo every 6 minutes. Shorty and SFX set the pace and YHC never saw them again after the first set of burpees.  Tool provided the conversation I needed to forget about my aching feet. The usual 90 mph fly by on Filmore was performed by some sort of Sedan today.  The 4-Runner must be in the shop.  SFX was kind enough to come back and find YHC and run with me for my last quarter mile.  Everyone did 10 burpees to finish The Thang off.

    COT

Some talk about the eventful #RockCity workout yesterday and planning for the 20,000 tomatoes coming to watch us workout on Saturday for our 1-year anniversary convergence.  We are also looking forward to the new Monday workout at the Birdcage AO.  #RockCity has gotten so big we have to split it – only room for three people on the pull up bars.

We prayed for a friend with Cancer and for our children and wives.

    Thanks,

    Hawg.

  • 5 Rounds with Rousey?

My experiment with VQ schedules didn’t take.  With Bubba – a no show – I had the full Q to myself.  Lucky for me – I had a weinke in my back pocket.  In Bubba’s defense I just put him on the group schedule instead of checking in with him to make sure he was ready – oh and he has a new baby!  (Side Effect’s baby is only 3 days old and he was present so the excuse only kind of works).

    So anyway – lesson learned.

A very hot and humid NOLA August workout.  The Peristyle is under some serious construction for the next few weeks.  The shovel flag will be nearby on the edge of the construction.

    Now down to business.

Warm up:  SSH, Imp Walkers, Squats, Mountain Climbers, and Monkey Humps x 25

We had a LONG mosey to our 2nd COP.  Hawgcycle and Side Effects were trying to guess where we were heading the whole mosey.  Mosey’d to the Christian Bros football field.   At the Field we did- 5 RDS with Tyson or as Side Effects said maybe Rousey is a little more current and it has alliteration.  Nerd.

Anyway Round 1 – LBC, Rd 2 – Lunges, Rd 3 – LBC Twist, Rd 4 Slow Squat Hold for a full second, and Rd  5 Peter Parkers.  **Run to the 50 yd line do 25, opposite goal line 25, 50 yd line 25 and then the original goal line 25.  All totals after 5 rounds is 1000 yds of running, 500 leg/ab exercises.  Good job men.

In the middle of Squats of the 4th Rd – Bagasse started to worry that his arms/chest weren’t getting worked at all.  So…

We did 5 burpees at 50, 10 merks at goal line, 4 burps at the 40, 10 merks at the goal line, 3 burps at the 30, 10 merks at the goal line, 2 burps at the 20, 10 merks at the goal line, 1 burp at the 10, 10 merks at the goal line — this is a modified burpee suicide – I guess?  For a total of 50 merks, and 15 burps.

I wanted to run us through some Dirty MacDeuce but time was a factor.   So we mosey’d past a water fountain and hit the blue collar gym.  Every guy in the PAX had to get 10 pull ups on your own.  Or negatives – if you couldn’t get your 10.  Plank and wait.    After the 6 joined the plank line – we did 1 arm/ 1 leg planks each set 30 sec. and 10 donkey kicks.

Then we mosey’d to the Quad at Storyland for 6 min of Mary

Superman to Bow x 10, Dying Cockroach x 25, Flutters x 25, Hello Dolly x 25, 10 Hip Dips each hip OYO, Parker Peters x 25, Plank Jack x 25, Plank Walk x 25    — Everything was In Cadence except the Hip Dips.

    Run to the flag!

COT:  Positive thoughts and congratulations to Side Effects and his wife who have a new baby this week.  I forgot to get the name but I do know the baby was 10 lbs 2 oz at birth and asked for a bowl of red beans and rice with sausage 15 min later.

We prayed for all of the kids and teachers starting school this week – that they can get into their routine quickly – make new friends and be intellectually curious.

    Good job men!

  • Mike Tyson and the 610 Stompers

Three men set out in the humid gloom of City Park to give Reluctant Yankee a proper F3 send off to Lithuania.  It seems like summer travels and weekend getaways kept the numbers low today.

    The Thang

    • Mosey to great lawn for the warm-up COP: SSH IC x 30; Imperial Walkers IC x 30; Arm Circles IC (Forward x 15 – Backwards x 15); Windmill
    • Mosey to NOMA for The 610 Stomper: 10 Burpees in one minute.  Repeat for 6 sets
    • Run around Big Lake (I think it is about 1 mile) We staggered the starts and played some catch me if you can.  No need to provide incentives given the competitive nature of this pax.  When finished each man slow moseyed to the Foundry and did arm hangs in lieu of planks waiting for the six.
    • Mosey to a soccer field for 8 Rounds of Tyson (1 Round = sprint to midfield and do 10 reps of the exercise, sprint to far end line, 10 more reps, sprint back to mid-field, 10 more reps, sprint back to start, 10 more reps) Excercises = Burpees, 4 count flutter kicks, squats, staggered merkins, bunny hops, 2 count peter parkers, beyonces, merkins
    • Mosey back to the flag

    Moleskin

T-claps to Yankee for squeezing in a workout prior to his international flight.  We had done 100 burpees by the time we were 30 minutes into the workout.  Our only regret is that we didn’t have time to get 2 more rounds of Tyson in.

    Shout Out

Prayers for Yankee’s trip and Side Effect’s has he and his wife prepare for their newborn.

    • Friday – 5:30 @ Wolfpack Mountain
    • Saturday – 6:30 @ City Park
  • You don’t have to put on the red light

    Pre-Thang –

A post Bar A Thon workout.  My butt was the only dummy to show up post – 6 beers 6 miles!

A nice crew of 6 for a not so gloomy but very balmy workout.  Humidity sucks!

The Thang – Maverick had the Q first.

He started us off by running us a way we have never run.  We ran back out the AO towards Orleans Ave.  There was actually a small hill on the bridge to add a nice little bonus to the run.  We stopped at the 600 year OAK tree.  Is that for real?? 600 year old tree.  It is the McDonogh Oak.  It is actually 26 feet in circumference.    An arborist said it is probably on 350 on his visit to the tree, but 600 sounds better.

Anyway this tree was the site of a little warmup courtesy of Maverick.

25 SSH, plank for 1 min-Maverick said we have to plank bc he never gets to plank in a normal workout, Imperial Walker squats x 20 , plank 1 min, Lunge walk 100 ft then plank 1 min.

Then we mosey to back across a bridge to the island–which should be called SMELLY Crawfish guts island.  We did one set of Dips x 20 then we had to get out of there.  maverick good call on the modification.  City Park sure seems to have a ton of stinky places.

We ran to the front of the Museum.  At the front of the Museum we had to run up the stairs and do 10 burpees.  Then at the bottom 1 inclined merkin , then to the fountain 1 dip.  Mav we need a name for this thing.  It is almost an 11 but sucks more than 11’s.  We love you, but we hate you for this invention.   Each rep you reduce one burpee and increase one merkin and dip.  Maverick’s name was taken in vain several times.

Then came the hammer of hammers.  After the mosey over to the outdoor gym.

Maverick did the ROXANNE.  One merkin every Roxanne and one plank jack every time sting sang put on the red light.  For a grand total of 25 Roxannes and a 3 min plank with some jacks in there.  We love you, but we hate you Maverick!

YHC took over at this point.  We mosey’d a bit and then we did 25 LbCs, 25 Peter Parkers, 25 penguins.

Outdoor gym with partners- 10 pull ups, 10 row ups, and 10 dips on the bars.  Then a second time through with 8 of the same exercises.

Then after that exercise we did a short mosey and did 25 LBC twists, and 25 Parker Peters.

Then we Mosey’d over to the Art Museum for a backwards bear crawl up the stairs and a regular bear crawl down the stairs.   2 at a time – the Pax had to plank and wait.

Then the final mosey back to the FLAG.  In the run to the FLAG Hawgcycle tried to sneak up on me, but thanks to a tip off from Side Effects I was able to find the last gear to keep my boy in 2nd.   (Even after 6 beers barathon the night before!)

It is always a pleasure men!  And even better is that with Maverick we are in good hands from now on!

  • Another visit with your friend – Jack Webb

Pre-thang – Pulled up to the AO thankful that we have moved our workouts up 30 min as the humidity and heat were already a factor.  I was pleased to see World Peas waiting and ready to get to work.   Tclaps to Amnesty for bringing FNG – Burgundy – good morning San Diego!  and Cotton for bringing his 1st FNG – Ian aka Scuba Steve – the spear fisherman.  I was worried at first that Cotton was going to no=show his EH’d FNG – but Cotton was true and pulled into the AO hot!

We ran across the Great Lawn for our first COP.  Lucky no duck diarrhea.

SSH x 25, Plank Jacks x 25, CDD x 25, LBC x 25, Monkey Humpers in honor of Splash’s Friday workout x 20 – some mumblechatter about loving the monkey humper

Mosey to the row of benches/long concrete bench by Sculpture Garden.

    Step ups x 25, Right leg squats x 15, Left leg squats x 15, Dips x 20

Mosey to the grassy knoll behind the Art Museum for Jack Webb to 10.  I loved hearing the mumblechatter for this one – its starts out like this isn’t so bad and then by 35 the grunts and groans are special.

Mosey to the Outdoor gym.  Stop short for 6MOM

    LBC twist x 25, Dying Cockroach x 25, Peter Parkers x 26, Parker Peters x 24, Flutter Kick x 27, Hello Dolly x 25, Jane Fonda left and then right hip x 25

Walk 10 yards to outdoor gym.  Partner up.

Group 1 runs around the Art Museum and back approx 3/4 mi.

Group 2 uses the outdoor gym and completes the cycle of  5 burpees 5 pull ups 10 Merks 15 Plank Jacks 20 LBCS 25 Squats then repeat until your partner shows up.

After one rotation we modified the running loop to a shorter loop due to time.  The guys ran out along the edge of the track to cheer on the Girls on the Run 5K that supports young girls and gets them involved with running early.  After the first round we had to plank and wait and we added a 4 min plank o rama for bonus.  We included the normal plank, reverse plank, Yankee aggressor and southern gentleman and then closed with the mission impossible.

After we finished that rotation we moseyed back to the flag.  I am still bitter that I lost the final sprin to Hawg!  Tclaps to Hawg for pushing me harder.  At the flag we finished with a plank and wait.

Great workout today although the heat is going to be something we have to be aware of- and pre-hydrate all summer!

Tclaps to Maverick for stepping up and leading the Shout Out.

Tclaps to Amnesty for bringing the Lakeview FNGs out in force the last few weeks.

Tclaps to Scuba Steve for killin’ it and working hard for his first post

Tclaps to Jazzy who is busy on Wed but has not missed a Mon, Fri or Sat workout since he joined us in the Gloom!

    Schedule:

Monday at Pontiff with Hawgcycle – some talk of some Uptown and Lakeview dudes joining  at 530AM

Wednesday Audubon at Magazine St. 530AM with Rev

**Hawg I will take the next Monday

    Shout Out

YHC shared Romans 8:15 – “For you did not receive the spirit of bondage again to fear, but you received the Spirit of adoption by whom we cry out, “Abba, Father.”  YHC encouraged the PAX to live with the confidence and courage that comes from being adopted sons of God.

We continue to pray for those suffering from Cancer and other diseases in our community, specifically Amnesty and Channel Mullet’s fathers.  We also prayed for the students Mr. Awesome and Rev work with and the decisions they must make upon graduation.

  • Duck Diarrhea aka 6 Month Anniversary – Convergence Part 2

Convergence Part 2.  I made an executive decision to have 2 convergences due to the fact that we have a pretty divided group of weekday guys and Saturday guys.

It has been raining all week.  Everyday – all day!  And so it was no surprise Saturday AM that it rained the entire workout.  In honor of the Convergence/6 Month Anniversary of F3 NOLA we decided to go with a mixed DJ set for the workout.  Roots started us off –  as the honorary Captain of this leaderless/leaderful (is that a word?) band of guys connected by F3.  I missed some great mumble chatter b/c this backblast is a day late.  Sorry.

The Pre-Thang – This first workout at our new time slot of 630AM hit hard.  Why does sleeping that extra 30 min seem like such a big deal.  Had to hustle to the AO because of a slow wake up.  I was still recovering from  crawfish and a few 12 oz curls just a few hours before this workout.    Raining steady — I was pretty sure this would interfere with attendance at our Anniversary bash/Convergence.  Pleasantly surprise to see about 10 guys hanging around where the shovel flag should be – oops I had the flag.    Excellent Kotters — Redfish (kind of – he was around a week or so ago) and Buster.  Welcome back.  Wait a moment and then the I’m not a trainer speech from Roots and we were off!

First COP led by Roots was on the Great Lawn.  The steady rain must have made the GREAT LAWN the perfect outhouse for a thousand ducks because the field was covered with duck diarrhea.  Oh the smell.  And of course my boy Roots chooses not to modify.  Even with our whining…

SSH x 25 IC, Lunge x 10 IC, Imperial Walkers x 15 IC, Merkins ***NOOOO please x 15, Plank Jacks x 25 IC ***Ohh gross,  Squats x 30.  Roots was kind enough to modify and let us skip on the plank walks but he made up for it with two #suddenchange  10 burpees on your own –the PAX was surpressing dry heaves the whole burpee fest.

Roots passes baton to YHC – Reluctant Yankee

We mosey over to a few raised benches by the Sculpture Garden and go for a few rounds of

Step Ups x 30, Inclined Merks x 15, Squats left leg x 20, Sudden Change 10 burpees OYO, Declined Merks x 15, Squats right leg x 20, Sudden Change 10 burpees OYO, Step Ups x 30

Mosey to the Baseball field and Hand off Q to Mr Awesome

First exercise is the SNO-BALL – a team sprint from deep right field to homeplate to get our team Sno _ Ball post game!

Then first base 5 burpees, second base lunge jumps, third base mountain climbers, and plank and wait – rinse and repeat two times – all OYO

Then line up on 3rd base line.  There was a nice sized trench there and MR A calls for 20 Cross fit push ups in your puddle to clean off the duck diarrhea.  Then we added some burpees and mountain climbers to get you a little wetter.

Then Mr A hands off to Reveille for our 4th Q.  We run to the track through some small lakes and ponds.  Too late to worry about wet shoes but I can’t help but wonder why I wore socks.  Reveille takes us to the track for some modified (due to time) DIR-TAY MAC – DEUCE.

    Sumo Squat x 12, Mountain Climber x 12 then a lap

Lunge High Kick and wife Pleasers x 20 then a lap – no eye contact please

Side Lunge and Low Squat x 20 then a lap

After the last lap – Rev handed off to Hawg.

Finally Hawgcycle runs us a good mile back to our shovel flag.  Still sitting there – thankfully present.  Hawgcycle sits us down in some thorns and fire ants for 6MOM and decides to modify us with a move to the Peristyle.  Thanks for not pushing us out to the Duck Diarrhea.

    Mary was as follows:

    LBC x 62 IC; LBT x 40 IC; Flutter Kicks x 40 IC; Russian Twists x 20 IC; Real Freddy x 25 IC; Superman to Boat x 3
YHC was impressed that Hawg could count to 62 IC.  He was a math teacher but he is also from Arkansas so it was an impressive feat.  The PAX tried to #pushthemselves but the Hawgcycle can NOT be stopped – you can only hope to contain him.
Strong finish for the Convergence and the rain felt so good – post Mary.
    Shout Out –
We prayed for Bubba and his newborn.  We prayed for the sick.  We reflected on how appreciative we are to have F3 here in NOLA and in our lives.  We definitely marked our 6 months with hope for a bigger F3 in NOLA but with contentment that it even exists for us at all.  FNGs almost got named Jammy and Fanny in honor of Splash’s Friday workout but we decided to save those names for the next 2 FNGS that Splash brings.
Coffeeteria:  I usually don’t mention the coffee post workout but today was special.  While we were the only paying customers at Morning Call due to the copious amounts of rain – we were treated to a movie shoot.  The director was not a fan of F3.
First he had to ask us to stop dragging chairs over to make a table big enough for the gang.
Second he had to ask YHC to stop starring, he said it makes the fake movie – look – well – fake (I wasn’t starring)
Third he had to ask Amnesty to stop rubbing his nipples on the window
And lets just say it was a good thing reveille wasn’t sitting in a spot where the director could see him bc it was about to get ugly.
Any attempts to EH said director were ignored.

T-claps to Bubba and Mav for Qing the warm-up.  They both did a great job.  I look forward to their upcoming VQs.  It was disappointing to be chased from the Tad again.  Luckily City Park is such a great AO we don’t really need the Tad.  We will get back in there some day.  All in all the man could not keep us down. T-claps to Roots for Larry Birding most of the day.  T-Claps to Maverick for Larry Birding Round 4 of Tyson.  Your consistency is certainly making you stronger brother.  Same with Bubba – I can already see the difference.

    Shout Out

Continued prayers for Bubba and his family as they prepare for 4.0.  Prayers for Yankee as he is now in Spain, responsible for 30+ teen girls.  Prayers for both Channel Mullet’s and Amnesty’s Dad battling prostate cancer.  Praise that the cancer is localized and treatable in both situations.  Thanksgiving for Hogs for the cause and all the money they have raised for pediatric brain cancer.

    • Saturday – CSAUP – CCC 10K – No workout at City Park

We are planning a *convergence to celebrate the six month anniversary of F3 Nola.  We are calling all men to meet at the shovel flag in City Park at 0630 April 18th.  Let’s get at least 50 men for that workout.  Start planning now.

*Convergence: The act of bringing disparate #Thangs together, whether they be #Workouts, ideas or the shards of a man’s broken heart.

  • 4 x 100

4 strong this morning, on a beautiful NOLA day.  A lot of men with other commitments, so Rev and YHC split the Q.  We definitely need more Qs.  If you have come to a couple of workouts, you are ready.  Let Yankee know that you would like to Q and he will work you into the “schedule.”

    The Thang

    Rev on Q

    • Mosey to NOMA
    • Warm-up COP: SSH IC x 25; Low Slow Squats IC x 15; Knee slaps IC  x15; Merkins IC x 10;
    • Mosey to the new stairs Rev found at that side of NOMA
    • What started as 11s, but ended as approximately 5.5s: Run 11s on the stairs on the side of NOMA.  Start with 10 burpees at the top and 1 squat at the bottom.  Rev called it off after 5 burpees at the top and 6 squats.  People’s chair as we waited for the six.  (Total of 45 burpees – remember that for later)
    • Mosey for about an 1/8 of a mile
    • Jack Webb Tribute to RY. Start with 1 Merkin and 1 air press…workup to 10 merkins and 10 air presses.  #MumbleChatter – Rev assured Maverick and Bubba that these are very easy.  YHC made sure to let them know he was lying and these things suck…really suck.
    • Mosey to outdoor gym

    • Ark Loader: To Midfield and back (about 70 yards total) – Bear Crawl, Crab Walk.  To Penalty Box and back (about 30 yards total) – Duck walk, Frog, Crawl Bear, Walk Crab  #MumbleChatter – A ref, presumably for a teeny soccer game later, thought it was important to tell us how strange we looked during our Crawl Bear.  Good thing this guy has never seen us do Wife Pleasers or Teabaggins.
    • Mosey to a tree in the middle of the disc golf course
    • Each man runs to 1 of 4 disc golf holes and does the number of burpees listed on the sign (5, 8, 9, or 10). After completing the burpees run back to the tree and start doing LBCs until the six.  Finished when each man has completed all 4 holes. (Total of 32 bupees – brings count to 77)
    • Mosey back to the great lawn stopping to do three sets of burpees along the way. Sets of 8, 8, and 7.  (Total of 23 burpees – brings count to 100)
    • Low plank for a 15 count and sprint to the flag.

     Moleskin

This workout was low on numbers but big on pain.  11s are definitely tough when burpees are involved.  This was a lesson that I learned at the hands of Gandolf during the kick off in October, but something YHC needed to be reminded of today by Rev.  YHC got excited about the number of burpees in the first half of the workout and decided the PAX would appreciate getting to 100.  Great coffeeteria afterwards with Mav and Bubba.

    Shout Out

Congratulations to Bubba as he and his M prepare for the arrival of Bubba 4.0 in April.  April is a great month for birthdays (crawfish boil every year).  Prayers for Maverick as he haa big week coming up this week.
