  • Boot, Scoot, and Burpee

It was F3 Northshore’s own ne’er-present Ocho that EH’d YHC exactly a year ago. The High Impact Men of this group routinely post to support each other and lift each other up, day in and day out. Despite the broken leg and ankle, there was no way YHC was going to give up his anniversary Q and miss out on celebrating this gift of F3. So, with QIC donning a Boot and a Knee Scooter, we got started with a long “warm up”:

    12 x Toe Touches

    12 x Arm Circles

    12 x Gas Pumps

    12 x Putins

    12 x Scissors

    12 x Heels to Heaven

    12 x Air Presses

    12 x Oblique V-Ups

    12 x Little Manny Crunches

    12 x Crunchy Frog

    12 x Freddy Mercuries

    12 x Van Gohdas

    12ish Flutter Kicks

    12 x Morrocan Night Clubs

    12 x Lazy Peter Parkers

    12 x Scorpion Kicks

    12 x LBCs

    12 x Cherry Pickers

    12 x Cherry Pickers

    …and 1 Burpee

Short scoot toward Mississippi and we circled up for some high rep Mucho Chesto:

    18 x Merkins

    18 x Wide Merkins

    18 x Diamond Merkins

    18 x Stagger Left Merkins

    18 x Stagger Right Merkins

…followed by 12s. Why 12, and not 11 asks Jose 10k. Because that’s how many screws are in the old kicker, Jose.

We partnered into groups of 3 and completed Freak Nasties on the Lake Wall and Big Boy Sit Ups on the side walk with 2 Partners carrying the third in between. Grundy and Toto were great sports as they quickly learned that they’d be carrying QIC for each run. Thanks guys!

Circled up for a Mucho Chesto bonus:

    12 x Military Merkins

    12 x Makhtar N’ Merkins (5 count?, 6 count?…who’s counting?)

    12 x Irkins

    12 x Carolina Drydocks

    12 x Dirkins

Back to the shovel flag for some Mary:

    Hello Dollies

    Jane Fondas (Left)

    Abrinome

    H2H Freddy Mercuries

Wife Pleasers (grunted out by Sparky)

    Jane Fondas (Right)

    100s

    …and 1 Burpee

Counterama; Name-orama; Maverick prayed out the group of 21 PAX. Thanks for following my handicapped lead, men. SYITG.

  • Fuzzy Balls

22 PAX strong on the Mandeville Lakefront. 23 if you count Brat who joined us for a little foreplay as he works his way off injured reserve. Brat, an officer with the NOPD, injured himself successfully tackling and arresting a bad guy. The PAX’s consensus is that he should use a Tazer next time Indiana Jones style or perhaps transfer to a Northshore police agency where a polite request to stop, issued with an English accent, is all that is required to apprehend a criminal.

Kicked things off with warmup of seal jacks, toe touches, SSHs, imperial walkers, merkins, and Jane Fondas. We then divided into three teams, and YHC retrieved his bag and revealed his fuzzy balls.

Each team received a fuzzy tennis ball (yes, YHC had three) and instructions to race with it about a half mile west along the Lakefront to the Shaft. To begin, there were only three rules: first, you cannot run if you are holding the ball; second, no pass backs-you cannot receive a pass back from the man you just passed to; and third, the entire team had to stop dead and perform five burpees every time the ball touched the ground before proceeding. Then Cowbell whipped a legal pad out of his briefcase and starting asking questions and for clarification on a few items so we ended up with a few more rules. No wonder you guys don’t get anything done on the Southshore.

Circled up upon arrival at the Shaft for T merkins and alternating Supermans..

Back to the races with another tennis ball sprint further westward along the Lakefront to the playground where we circled up for prisoner squats, hand release merkins and crab cakes.

Raced back eastward with our fuzzy balls to the Shaft for a third COP consisting of a merkin wave, lunges, Supermans, arm circles, overhead hand claps, and air presses.

One final race back to the shovel flag, wrapping things up with some Mary…single leg raises, scuba Steves and a 60 second plank.

Countorama, nameorama and Phoenix prayed us out on the way to the coffeeteria.

Thanks for letting me lead, guys, and thanks for competing so earnestly in the silly tennis ball game.

  • ZOORICH CLASSIC

After a quick disclaimer and Warmorama (18 x SSH, 18 x Toe Touches, 9 Windmills), the Pax moseyed westward and partnered up to commence a frisbee golf challenge. We had 18 holes i.e. crawfish trays (‘tis the season!) with a total course length of ~1 mile. For each hole, one partner threw the high quality, PDGA-approved disc (courtesy of Dollar General), while the other partner performed the following exercises between strokes for the respective holes. Partners alternated throwing and exercising throughout the course.

    Between Strokes

    Holes 1 – 3: Bear Crawl

    Holes 4 – 6: Wheelbarrow

    Holes 7 – 9: Lunge Walk

    Holes 10 – 12: Groucho Walk

    Holes 13 – 15: Frankensteins

    Holes 16 – 18: Burpee Broad Jumps

Once the team completed a hole, both team members performed the following exercises with the rep count equal to how many strokes the team took to complete the hole.

    Hole          Exercise

    1                # x Freak Nasties

    2                # x Jump Squats

    3                # x Derkins

    4                #  x Squerkins

    5               # x Copperhead Squats

    6               # x Hello Dollies

7               # x Gwerkins (As if the Squerkins weren’t bad enough)

    8               # x Burpees

    9               # x Donkey Kicks

    10            # x Plank Jacks

    11            # x Sister Mary Katherines

    12           #  x Big Boy Situps

    13           # x Crunchy Frogs

    14           # x Groiners

    15          # x Body Builders

    16          #  x Dive Bombers

17         # x Box Jumps (No one completed as time ran out)

18         # x Patty Cake Merkins (No one completed as time ran out)

Team BEAN HAMMER started out rough with the first throw on the first hole in the Lake, but quickly recovered.

Team STEVE GRUNDY put on a racy display of Squerkins, which are very likely to never be incorporated into another F3 Northshore beatdown.

Welcome back two Pax back from Injured Reserve, Butt Splice and Tanked Up!, who inadvertently won unattributable points for best team name: BUTT TANK!

Thanks to team JOSE RUSSO for scooping up the coupons at the end.

Team scores were recorded on scorecards provided by the Q and tallied below with penalty 6s for unfinished holes. This simplified scoring normalization yielded team Shooting Sparks as winner of the 2019 Zoorich Classic. Congrats guys. Wear this badge of honor proudly!

Counterama, Name-orama, ceremonial naming of FNG – Speedy Gonzales, and Butt Splice prayed us out. 19th hole coffeeteria at our usual spot. Thanks for allowing me to lead, Men. Hope you enjoyed it as much as YHC had dreaming it up. SYITNG!

  • MARSH MADNESS

In honor of the recently completed NCAA Championship, QIC devised the inaugural F3 Northshore Marsh Madness that paid homage to none other than former U of Arkansas head coach, Nolan Richardson, whose teams’ up tempo and intense pressure defensive style was known as “40 Minutes of Hell.”

With lighting and thunder behind us, the light rain subsiding, and many regulars crushing Ragnar, our group of 7 got started.

Quick Warmorama around the invisible shovel flag consisted of Sweet 16 x Toe Touches, Side Straddle Hops, Bobby Hurleys, Makhtar N’ Merkins (6 count Makhtar N’Diayes followed by a Merkin). Maverick came in hot at the end of the warm up to round out the Pax of Elite 8.

Pax moseyed ¾ miles to the Milestone Marsh, home of F3 Northshore’s Monday morning beatdown. Following instruction, Pax partnered up into 4 x 2 man teams at each corner of the court with a basketball. Each team was to complete the following exercises in sequence accumulating to total.

    • 150 x Burpees

    • 300 x Squats

    • 150 x Big Boy Sit Ups

    • 300 x Air Presses

    • 150 x Merkins

    •  300 x Lunges

Meanwhile, 1 member of each team backpedaled with their basketball to half court, performed a Bobby Hurley, and drove to goal for a shot of his choosing: layup (1 point if sunk), free throw (2 points if sunk), or three point shot (3 points if sunk). Shooters marked their points using the first letter of their F3 name with sidewalk chalk. The competition was to end when the first team completed all exercises and all members of the team planked on the sideline and yelled “Halt!”, but no team was finished by 0715, so QIC called it in respect of time.

Total team points and individual team member points were tallied. The SW corner represented by Bird and Sparky had the most combined points (81).

The highest scoring individual from each of the 4 teams were Bird, Stockboy, Toto, and Zoolander. The Final Four were summoned for a 5-shot “Around-the-World” shoot out, while the rest of the Pax lined the 3-point line performing side straddle hops (so as to simulate fans in the stands trying to distract the shooter). After the 4 rounds and sinking 3 of 5 shots, Zoolander emerged as the soon to be never remembered 2019 F3 Northshore Marsh Madness champion! We’ll see if the prestigious title can be defended in a year or so.

Time was short, so the Pax of Elite 8 moseyed back to the meeting spot.

Counterama, Nameorama. Welcome FNG Joel who sank 16 three pointers and is now known as Bird.

QIC prayed us out. Thanks for following my lead today men. See you in the next Gloom.

  • Northshore H8!

Beautiful morning on the Mandeville Lakefront. Bean joined YHC to lead a warmup of Arm Circles, Overhead Handclaps, Merkins, Seal Jacks, Butt Kicks, Imperial Walkers, and Windmills, all IC 10-20x. The PAX then moseyed westward for The Thang…Northshore H8!

    AMRAP in 40 minutes:

35 yard bear crawl, .4 mile run, 35 yard bear crawl, then 7 burpees and 1 Merkin to complete Round 1

Rinse and repeat working towards 1 burpee and 7 Merkins

    Goal of 8 Rounds.

The Northshore H8!, last attempted six months ago, once again proved to be a tough challenge for the PAX. Only superheros Waterpik and Bushwacker completed all 8 rounds in 40 minutes. This benchmark workout definitely gave the rest of us good reason to keep working hard to get better. Deceptively difficult, this beat down will check the ego every time.

Slow mosey back to the shovel flag for shoulder taps, IC 20x.

Countorama, nameorama and Bean prayed us out.

    Welcome FNG Clean Hit!

  • The Substitute Q

We all remember having a substitute in school, it was almost like a free period… well this is F3 and there are no free periods, especially here on the north shore! With @the-manny being out of comission for the moment he had to call is a substitute Q.. and who better than @butt-splice himself!!! 16 men including myself decided not to fartsack and overcome the sad clown syndrome! 6 got the worm with 2 miles of foreplay and @josemourinho showed us all what a 10k foreplay looks like. With excitement we return back to the flag with smiling faces awating us and an almost unrecognizable @eiei (because of the beard not the belly!) Glad to have you back brother! An eastern sunrise on the shovel flag meant it was time for action!!!

  • Let’s MOSEY

With no World Cup Soccer themes or any other ideas for a “LOVE FEST Beatdown” dancing in my mind, YHC figured it would be a good time to work off some of those holiday calories that invariably crop up at this time of year.  So, with a big crowd (T-Claps guys) on the day before Christmas Adam, here’s more or less how it went down:

To get the blood flowing, we did a brief round of SSH, HK, and BK to warm up.  all IC x 15.

Mosey Eastward, Circle up for some harder hitting exercises before the main course.  Smurf Jacks IC x 20, Monkey Humpers IC x 20, Shooter’s Burpos OYO x 10.

Now it was time to MOSEY again, however, this time we went westward.  It was back to the corner of Marigny and Lakeshore Dr for some RACES…(Yes, Bushwacker, you heard that correctly).  YHC divided the PAX into two random groups, and each group took turns racing around the first block of Marigny St (around the circle).  While one group was running, the other group did a continuous exercise.  Rinse and repeat x 3.  The exercises were T-Merkins, Squats, Shoulder Taps.  After some pretty intense running, it was time to MOSEY again…this time we went Eastward, all the way to the PULL UP BARS beyond the outfield fence at Harbor Field.  And that distance may have been a little farther than YHC had remembered, as the PAX thinned to a barely connected group.  Once the PAX re-assembled, it was time for some pullups.  As each man did a set of up-to 5 pull ups (apologies to Zoolander and The Hammer, both of whom can clearly can pop out around 20), the remaining PAX did and exercise.  First it was Imperial Walker Squats, then it was Mack Taraji’s, and last it was, Flutter Kicks.  After 3 rounds, and some really cold hands, we MOSEYED back to the flag for a brief set of Mary.  COT, and YHC prayed us out.  Welcome to our FNG, One Eye.  Thanks for letting me take the lead today and pushing me to greater heights!

Barely Legal, Bolt, Bubba, Bushwacker, Coconuts, Garfield, Jose Mourinho, Mathlete, Maverick, One Eye (FNG), Shooter, Toto, The Hammer, THE Manny, Tanked Up!, Zoolander

  • The Morning before the Nightmare before Christmas

18 strong on the Mandeville Lakefront this morning, our warmup circle of pain expanding as the sun rose with long lost veteran EiEi finding his way out of the fartsack and back to the PAX just in time for the standard disclaimer.

Off to the races with a warmup of Seal Jacks, Imperial Walker Squats, Toe Touches, Windmills, and Side Straddle Hops, all 20x IC.

Mosey towards the Harbor for the next COP:  T Merkins, Jane Fondas, Wife Pleasers, Merkin Circle, Nolan Ryans, and Flutter Kicks. All IC with various rep counts.

Mosey again towards the Harbor with another COP stop for front to back lunges, monkey humpers, and copperhead squats.  Again IC with various rep counts.

Then all the way to the Harbor playground.  YHC divided the PAX into six teams of three for some rarajipari variations around the playground.  Good times and all in line with YHC’s diabolical plan to run the PAX as much as possible this morning to train surreptitiously for the Krazy Ivan without wearing them out for tomorrow afternoon’s Nightmare Before Christmas beat down.

Indian Run back to the shovel flag for our countorama, nameorama and a prayer.

Welcome FNGs Big Ugly, Bolt and Hawk!

Thanks for letting me lead guys.  YHC always appreciate you playing along with my hare brained ideas.

  • Evening Karaoke Q Workout and F2

Nine pax posted last night for our evening workout and F2.

We passed the Q from pax to pax throughout the workout in what turned out to be a memorable beat down as the sun set.

Throughout four circles of pain the pax went through several warm up exercises, merkins, dips, burpees, unique games, and some Mary to wrap things up.

Shout outs to three pax who took the Q  for some unique activities:

    • Bushwhacker a series of animals that he had been planning all day
    • Coconuts for introducing a new paper rock scissors burpee penalty game
    • Turbo Tax for a balance game that started out with skeptical pax holding hands, but turned into an intense challenge

Three more pax joined us for F2 after the workout: EiEi, Ocho, and Captain Sparkles.  And special shout outs to Coconuts for buying the first round of beer and to Shooter for the second. We owe you one (or two).

Wishing Ocho the best as the final decisions of the 610 Stompers are announced.

  • Obstacle Course on the Mandeville Lakefront

The idea was simple: raid my junk filled garage to come up with some objects to create an obstacle course on the Mandeville Lakefront for the Saturday morning beatdown.  Here’s how it went, more or less.

Short warm up, then mosey down the Lakefront to the large grassy area for some fun.  (at least that was the original idea)

PAX lines up behind a set of cones while one man at a time starts running the course.   When one man finishes the first obstacle, the next man goes until everyone is on the course.  The first obstacle was hurtles (2 ice chests and a wagon). Second obstacle…I took the net off of my son’s field hockey goal.  It was perfect to crawl under, or you could pretend you were sliding head first into second base.  PAX moves on to third station.  And on, and on it went.  There were a total of 7 stations. Before moving on to the next station, each man had to complete an exercise.  Here’s a flavor of the exercises we completed: merkins, hello dollys, flutter kicks, Steve’s groiners, burpees, putins, squats, jump squats, sister mary katherines, etc.  After 8 grueling trips through the obstacle course, time was up.  It was time to…

mosey back to flag for announcements, countarama, and thanks to Maverick for praying us out.

thanks for letting me lead today, men.  and thanks for helping me become a better version of myself.

    Waterpik
