  • Cleveland- An alternate F3 Universe?

T-claps to ‘Captain’ from Cleveland for posting with us today.  His presence destroyed the stereotype of what I thought airline pilots did on their overnight layovers in far away places like New Orleans.  Either Captain dusted off the glitter and rallied really well or he got a good night’s rest and was fresh for the Monday morning beatdown.  With a new found appreciation for pilots I did, however, question the pax-naming ability of our friends in Cleveland.  What could I have been: Doc, Doctor, Life-saver, McSteamy?  Not so fast here in Nola.  But it did have me thinking a bit of the 14 of us the sweated it out today with our less respectful names.  I decided we need a re-do a la Cleveland style:

    • Tinkles = Surgeon General
    • Reluctant Yankee = Enthusiastic Northerner
    • Angie’s List = Frank Lloyd Wright
    • Bartman = The Hawk
    • Jadaveon = All American
    • Koopa = Fortnight
    • I Love You Man = I Love You Man, Woman, or LGBTQ friend
    • Saban = Billy Cannon
    • Mulligan = Scratch
    • Roots = The Rock
    • Peppa = Co-Captain (being that captain is off the board)
    • Sand Bar = Earthsaver
    • Shrinkage = Sigmund

Maybe one day we will get a chance to post in Cleveland!

Oh and about the beatdown.  I was a sub for Swamp Cock’s VQ who had to change his plans at the last minute.  I enjoyed the lighter crowd and appreciated those who posted on this holiday week.

    Warm up:

    • SSH IC x 30
    • IW IC x 30
    • Peter Parker IC x 30

Mosey to the track and Indian run to the row bars for four stations:

    • Burpees x 10 for the count
    • Jump squats
    • Rows
    • LBC

Catch me if you can with the last guy dropping and doing 5 merks.  This took us all the way to fountain.

    At the benches:

    • Derkins x 10, Should taps x 10, Derkins x 10
    • LLS IC x 20
    • Dips IC x 15
    • RLS IC x 20

Back to the track for progressive burpee count on the running men icons starting at one and progressing to 5

Time for some Mary in golf course grass:

    • WW2 situps x 10
    • Penguins x 20
    • Dying cockroach x 20
    • V-ups x 10

More Indian run to the pull up bars for 4 stations:

    • Pull ups x 10 for the count
    • Body builders
    • J Lo’s
    • Al Gores

Jog/Sprint alternating intervals back to the flag.

Some time to spare so we worked in some planks and marveled at a recently set record of 10 hours of planking.  Frank Lloyd Wright noted he probably couldn’t stand for ten hours.  Well played. Even The Hawk and Scratch found it humorous!  Earthsaver used his long arm to capture a group selfie.  Count off and nameorama. Enthusiastic Northerner provided some useful information to the group.  Surgeon General closed us with prayer.  Thanks for visiting Captain!

  • And for the Beatdown, I’ll start with Shoulders and then for my entrée shoulders with a side of shoulders and for dessert…Shoulders!!!!

Oh yes, now we are in the dog days of summer.  So not only did we have 80 degree temperature greeting us at 5:30 but let’s add 100% humidity as it rained the day before.  Fun times and time for some upper-body work.  As El Wire duly noted towards the end of our beatdown.  Every exercise except one included shoulders.  Yes El Wire they did, they surely did.  Onward to the Thang!

Mosey to a open space by Magazine St. for Warmup:

    • Arm Circles Forward X15
    • Arm Circles Reverse X15
    • IW X20
    • Windmills X 15

Mosey to Soccer Field for Bear Crawl Ring of Fire

    • Bearcrawl Counter-Clockwise all till Q yells halt
      • 10 merkins
    • Bearcrawl Clockwise
      • 10 diamond merks

    Let’s increase the difficulty!

    • Boo Boo Bearcrawl Counterclockwise Right Leg Up
      • 10 staggered right
    • Boo Boo Bearcrawl Clockwise Left Leg Up
      • 10 staggered left

Mosey to street leading to statue for:

Indian Crab Crawl to Statue – Line up in four lines of four or five PAX.  Last PAX crabwalks to front of column while other PAX does LBC’s and so on.  This exercise took a little bit longer than expected so we stopped about halfway and…

    Moseyed to the statue for:

    Dora 123 – Partner Up

    • 100 burpees
    • 200 derkins
    • 300 squats

Ran out of time, so called it with most PAX somewhere in their Squat count.

Moseyed to flag with one minute to spare, so, 10 Nolan Ryans each side OYO!

Count off, Name-o-rama (one FNG, Betty Crocker as he likes to bake), announcements, intentions and prayer.

Thank you for letting me lead!

  • Oh the Terror

This Q had me shaking in fear like night. I was not intending to Q this morning. I had made plans with Hawg to swap Qs. I would take his birdcage Q in early April, and he would take my Q in early June. I filled in admirably for him in the spring, but this week he informed me that he was running out of town to Arizona to avoid filling in for me. After eight weeks of missing birdcage workouts (family vacation, sickness, and trip to Israel), I did not feel ready to Q in my first F3 at this location since my April, but God gives grace to the weak and I faced my terror of leading a workout while feeling woefully out of shape.

We started with 15 at the imaginary flag and following the disclaimer, we moseyed over to the WWI flag for a warm-up.

    SSH – 20

    Hillbillies – 20

    Peter Parker – 20

    Windmills – 21

We ended by cleaning up with 20 Annies

We did an Indian Run back past our starting spot and over to the monkey bars. We did a 4 part rotation with 10 pull-ups as the count Freddie Mercury, Merkins, and Big Boy Sit-ups with the other three stations. We did two rotations.

We moseyed over to the open field in front of the zoo for the Suck. We did two rounds. 3 minutes each time to see how many reps of 7 SSH, 7 merks, and 7 squats we could each knock out.

Following the Suck, we moseyed down Constance St. to the levee. My goal was to do elevens at this point. I think I sapped too much of our time and endurance with the 2nd suck, because we only finished half of the exercise before we needed to mosey back to the flag. The elevens started with 10 burpees on the bottom and 1 jump squat on the top. Most men finished the round with 5 burpees and 6 jump squats.

We moseyed back to the flag. I hate Mary and tried to arrive right at 6:15, but we arrived about 90 seconds early. We did a round of American Hammers and then a round of Wife Pleasers to get ready for Father’s Day and my watch said we were done.

We counted to 15, said our names, and called it a day.

Thanks for putting up with my anxiety over my lack of recent attendance. The workout beat me down, and I hope all of the pax felt the same.

  • Bring Sally Up – again

Humidity is a reality right now.  The constant feeling of sticky sweat – and living in a dog’s mouth.

We ran a loop by the golf course.  Then circled up at the bandstand in Audubon.

    SSH x 20, Imp Walker Squats x 20, Mtn Climbers x 20, Dead bugs x 20

Then we made a plan… 25 rows at the row bars, 25 Russian Twists at the bandstand, 25 dips on the benches and 5-10 pullups at the pull up bars – plank until you get an open spot.   Run one loop to complete and then plank and wait at the bandstand.  I was trying to avoid any push ups after Gabrielle’s push up destruction on Monday.

Then we circled up for SALLY UP.   Squats to Flower by Moby.

Then we did Superman to Bow x 1 min    YTWs for back work x 20

Then we did another loop.  Same deal except we did 25 plank jacks at the bandstand and BLIMPS to wait.

Then we circled for a FINAL Mary.

LBC, Peter Parkers, Plank Jacks, Dying Roach, Parker Peters, Flutter, Rosalita, Shoulder Taps, and Bird dogs x 20

Tried to stay on the core today to give the arms/shoulders some recovery time!

A pleasure to LEAD.  Thanks for the opportunity.

  • Core Crunch

My first Q in a while was core-focused.  I rolled in hot and was the last one to join the PAX.  We kicked things off with some warm-ups in place:

    -20 x SSH

    -20 x plank jacks

    -20 x mountain climbers

Then we moseyed over to fairway near the pull up bars.  The sprinklers were on, but it didn’t seem like they’d hit us where we circled up…but then they did.  Whoops.  We did a J-Lo Ring of Fire, with exercises up to 5 while the rest of the PAX planked.

We then Indian Ran to the benches at the front of the park.  We did a Dora 1-2-3 with 100 LBCs, 200 Nolan Ryans and 300 LBTs.  Time was running out though, so we modified our last exercised and headed on.

We ran 1 x running man jog, 2 x running man sprint to a green spot near the row bars next.  We circled up and did some more core exercises:

    -20 x Hello Dollys

    -20 x Rosalitas

    -20 x Dying Cockroach

    -20 x J-Lo

Then back to the flag to count/name off.  Good to get back in the swing of things, Q-wise.

  • Dirty McDeuce at the Birdcage

Nice turnout at the Birdcage where the Pax was treated to a variation on the Dirty McDeuce.  But first, a disclaimer, quick mosey down oak alley, and warump COP:  SSHx25, IW x26, Burpee x10 (OYO).  Then a slow jog back down oak alley, down the jogging track to the row bars, and back to the lamppost nearest to the bandstand (approx. 500-600 m).  That would be our lap for the Dirty McDeuce, which went something like this:

    • Lamppost 1:  Merkins x10, Monkey humpers x20, Mountain climbers x20, bearcrawl to lamppost two, hard run
    • Lamppost 2: Diamond merks x10, squat jumps x30 (2-count cadence), plank jacks x20, backward bearcrawl to lamppost three, hard run
    • Lamppost 3: Wide merks x10, lunges x20, Peter Parkers x20, bearcrawl to lamppost 4, hard run
    • Lamppost 4: Merks x10, burpees x1 (OYO), Parker Peters x20, backward bearcrawl to track, hard run

We then used the balance of our time for some Mary:

    • LBC x25
    • V-Up x15
    • Russian Twist x20
    • Dying cockroach x20
    • Hello Dolly x20
    • J-Lo x20

Finally, wrap up with the count, name-o-rama, and prayer.

    -Mulligan

  • That’s Right, No Upper Body…

    Cobains for the delayed backblast…

At 05:30, YHC gave the disclaimer and we moseyed around the golf club parking lot and over to the grass by the bandstand for the warm up COP: plank jacks, imperial walkers,  mtn. climbers, hill billies x 25 IC.

Mosey to the shelter and grab a partner. Partner A runs a lap through the lights and back around through the parking lot(approx. qtr mile)while Partner B does the designated exercise AMRAP, then flip flop.  They were: monkey humpers, russian twists, left leg step ups, dolly, right leg step ups, elbow plank, lunge, flutter kick, low slow squat, lbc. Plank and wait for the six. Just enough time to quick mosey to the flag.

    COT w shoutout by YHC.

T Claps to the pax for covering a little more than 2.5 miles on the run.

    Good Times!

Mosey back the Great Lawn, for some Cinco De Mayo inspired Dora.  YHC knew there was no way were were finishing, but that didn’t keep us from trying.  Partner up.  This was the plan:

    • 300 Moribundo Cucaraches

A few teams made it through the Body-Builders and into the Jumping Beans.

  • Tony! Toni! Tone’! or is it Trevor…..?

On a beautiful Monday morning YHC gathered with 15 other PAX for a great start to the day.  As I walked up to the AO I noticed Seaman.  Not only did he come to wish all the other PAX a good beatdown but he brought his new dog and an FNG he EH’ed.  After introducing myself to Tony or was it Toni, maybe Tone’?, we all circled up and waited for a few PAX coming in hot.  When all were ready, I asked if there were any other FNG’s in the group besides Tony, Toni, Tone’ apparently there were none and I was quickly corrected by numerous PAX that the FNG who was there was not actually Tony or Toni or even Tone’ but Trevor.  I guess a weekend in Lafayette for International Festival de Acadiens had me a little slow.  With that, disclaimer and we moseyed to an open field by Magazine Street for:

    Warm-Up

    • Forward Arm Circles X 15
    • Reverse Arm Circles X 15
    • Hillbillies X 20
    • Imperial Walkers X20

Next we moseyed to the levee (dodging multiple cars, what’s up with the traffic at 5:30AM?) for:

    Burp Back Mountain

    • Partner 1 does 8-Count Body Builders
    • Partner 2 runs up the hill backwards and down hill forwards X 3 then Flapjack

Rinse and repeat until 100 Body Builders are completed.

Next, mosey to median by Audubon Statue for:

Rock IV aka “I must break you”

    • Rocky Balboa’s X 100 on curb 1
    • Bear Crawl forward over median to far curb for
    • Incline Merkins X 10
    • Crab Crawl forward to beginning
    • Rinse and repeat X3 alternating between forward and backward bear crawls and crab crawls

next, mosey to Oak Alley for:

    C.L.I.M.B.

    • Crab Cake
    • Lunge
    • Iron Cross
    • Mountain Climbers
    • Burpees

1 Crab Cake, 2 Lunges, 3 Iron Cross, 4 Mountain Climbers, 5 Burpees at first light then double up each successive light.  Carioca one way to second light, other way to third light, defensive slide one way to fourth light then other way to fifth light. Due to time constraints, we had to cut this short before the last light.

We quickly moseyed to the flag and as it was still 6:14, 10 Nolan Ryan’s each side OYO!

Count off and Name 0 Rama (where YHC initally forgot to give his name, etc. see note about International Fest above).  We had one FNG who is a Marine which lead some kind of way to his F3 name of Colonel Mustard.  Who just so happens to be YHC favorite Clue character.  Maybe it’s the monocle?  Who’s your favorite character????

We ended with announcements, intentions and prayer to be safe and have a good time this JazzFest week.

    Thanks for letting me lead.

  • Come on Down to the Silver Slipper with Paw Patrol

After coughing up a lung all night I figured resting my cold as I did Monday wasn’t going to cut it anymore.  Having the q was the motivation I needed to get myself out in the gloom and hope that a good sweat may cure me. For extra motivation I closed on a slow play EH Yankee had started years ago and didn’t want to let the new pax down.  Turns out my guy plus an old friend from college were the FNGs today which certainly made it fun.

Complete with a cough and mumbling double disclaimer we were off to grass lot in front of the zoo for some warm ups.  My weakness gave a good opportunity to develop another’s strength so I invited up some guest Q’s from some of the newer pax during the warm up.

    • SSH IC X 30
    • IW IC X 30 courtesy of Kong
    • Mountian Climber IC X 30 courtesy of Willie
    • Plank Walk IC X 15 courtesy of Koopa

Mosey to the next field over for some four corner BLIMPS finishing in the center with a shimy over the soccer cross bar vs crab walk option thrown in for fun.

A train was blocking access to the fly so 11’s on the levee were scratched in favor of Dora 1-2-3 at the Audubon statue.

    • 100 Derkins
    • 200 Dips
    • 300 LBCs

Mosey to the golf course for some uptown sticker-free grass for some Mary:

    • Russian Twist IC X 20
    • Hello Dolly IC X 20 courtesy of Peppa
    • Flutter Kicks IC X 25ish courtesy of Swamp Cock

Mosey back to the flag.  Another large count off and Name o Rama.  Welcome to club FNGs Silver Slipper and Paw Patrol.  I must say two quality F3 names!  Ball of Man with thanks for our blessings and prayers to help us to be the best Men possible.
