  • Moonshine? – from Russo

Pax of 7 had a party at Granny’s this morning. After HogsBreath noted a lack of prior week participation, the call went out and was answered this week!

Party started promptly at 5:15 (there were no fashionably late arrivals) with:

Warmup (All IC, between 10x and 20x)
    – sealjacks
    – self love
    – goofballs
    – toe touches
    – cherry pickers
    – imperial walkers

    Pre-thang
YHC loves granny’s house because of the layout. Stairs and the pilot house are one of my favorite places to do something a little different on occasion, so we started with something I’m going to call the Moonshine: 3 steps up, 2 down, until we reach the pilot house. 20 monkey humpers at the top (with no sunrise yet, that’s the “moonshine” part), then back down 3 steps, up 2.

Round 2 replaced the 3 up, 2 down model with 3 calf raises on each step (because Math in the gloom is hard).

Pax moseyed to the tunnel for Thang:
A modified Dora 1-2-3 where Dora learned how to divide by 2:

    – 50 shoulder tap merkins
    – 100 squats
    – 150 crunchy frogs
    – Partner moseyed down to center tunnel and back peddled back up

Round 2 (modified until the clock ran out)
    – plankjacks
    – lunges
    – Hello Dollys
    – karaoke in between

A mosey back through the woods to our start wrapped us up.

    COT, name o rama, announcements:
    – F3/FIA get together next Thursday 6:30PM led by Bushwhacker
    – Potentially lunch on Friday
    – Zoorich Classic on Saturday

    Prayer closed us out.

A thank you to the truly All Star team that posted this morning and one in particular to HogsBreath for the extra push. Until we do it again, SYITG.

  • To, Too, and Two – from Hogs Breath

Showing up to Grandma’s house, no other cars dotting the lot, at 0512. I got out, looked around and began to hum to Eric Carmen’s “All By Myself”.
So I began what any good pax would do, and began to lead myself!
As I began my 100 ssh, a single light of hope appeared, Cowbell arrived sharply at 0518!!!

So the two yutes began a rousing workout of

    WU /
    20 ic imperial walkers
    20 good mornings

    Run to tunnel
Set of 11’s with merkins and squats on the tunnel incline

    50 step ups
    25 freak nasty
    Switch legs 50 freak nasty

Jacob ladder, where one pax ran to the tower performed a burpee, then ran back for some Mary, and the second pax woood then run. The burpees continued in an escalating fashion, until cowbell sun Daley exclaimed “wait you were increasing the burpees the whole time?!?!?”
    The Mary performed at the bottom of the tower was;
    Lbc
    Flutter kicks
    Big boy
    Gas pumps
    Oblieks

Cot (which lets be honest with two, is a big circle of trust!)

  • Back peddlin’ – from Russo

Pax of 4 ventured to Granny’s in Goldilocks weather (not too hot, not too cold) to see how much sweat YHC could drum up.

Early mumble revolve around basketball, podcasts, 80s rock, and how Soundgarden has been around for almost 30 years now.

    Warm-up (all IC)
    SSH (20)
    Cherry pickers (15)
    Self love (15)
    Toe touches (15)
    Torso twists (15)
    High knees (20)

    Pre-thang 1 (3 rounds, OYO)
Freak Nastys and Step ups (2 is 1)
    15x, 10x, 5x

    Pre-thang 2

Bear crawl slaloms through the columns at Granny’s, 5 calf raises for each step up the pilot house, bear crawl around said pilot house, 5 calf raises for each step down, back pedal slalom (it’s a thing) back to start.

Mosey to the tunnel of love for Thang:
4 merkins, mosey down the tunnel, 3 merkins, back pedal up the tunnel, 4 merkins. Rinse and repeat four times.

Mosey back to start for a quick round of Mary: a few more freak nastys, durkins, crunchy frogs IC (requisite since Cowbell posted), 6 inch drill IC (requisite with YHC), hands to heels IC, leg raises IC.

COT, name o rama, and prayer to close.

Reminder about both the Northshore convergence this Saturday and F3/FIA get together later in the month (4/29 @ 6:30 PM)

Thank you to the Pax for pushing me, there were some superstars out there. Until we do it all again, SYITG!

  • Bear Poker – from Hogs Breath

    Somehow we welcomed back Shortcake!

Feeling way too muggy for March, four met for today’s beat down.

    Warm-up
    20ish IC SSH
10 each direction IC arm circles
    10 imperial walkers
    10 mountain man poopers

    The thang

Well after last weeks hit, we had to bear crawl again! Up the stairs, around the tower, and back down!
After, we all played a round of Deck O’ Death poker. YHC won with a pair of 7’s and my prize was to lead the round of exercises; some arm circles, plank jacks, derkins and some other stuff.
Then we went back to the midway for a round of bear inch. Or an Indian run with bear crawls and planks!
Then back for another round of Deck O’ Death poker. And this time shortcake won the round. We did some dips and other stuff….
complaining about a lack of leg exercises, YHC decided to throw in a length of walking lunges and a mosey to the tunnel. This provided a reprieve and good mumblechatter about the crazy state of the world. However, YHC had us complete a bear crawl up the tunnel incline!
We had just enough to time to mosey back to the shovelflag for another round of poker! Again some merkins, lbc, and stuff but we ended with a 25 second plank rounding us out to 0600!
Ended with count-o-Rama, name-o-Rama, announcements, and COT!

A great start to the day with some great men!

  • Bear, Webb, Lunge – from Hogs Breath

I showed up at grandmas house just in time to see Hammer pull in around 5:05am. Planting the flag, that Aikbar confidently left behind on Monday’s marsh beatdown, YHC awaited to see if any others would arrive.

Once we had a decent crew arriving we began the warm-up to some “unfamiliar” and “new” exercises (that YHC simply pulled off the F3 exicon!). Bushwhacker was insistent that Grandmas House hid a tire so YHC began to mentally formulate how we could incorporate this into our workout!

    10 IC MountainMan poopers
    15 Hairy Rockettes
    15 or so Butt Kicks
    10 Torso Twists

    The thang:

A bear crawl the length of the pavilion, up the stairs! Yes, up the stairs. Around the tower, and back down the stairs! Yes, down the stairs. Returning to the start point.

We then moved to a round of Jack Webbs. Having some trouble keeping rhythm and cadence the Q threw in a few extra merkins!

At this point do our eyes deceive us????? But it was Cowbell arriving only 12 minutes late!

Back to the pavilion for a round of lunge walks. Up the stairs, round’ the tower, back down the stairs and returning to the start line!

Then a set of Squat Webb’s. 1 squat, 2 calf raises followed by 2 squats, 4 calf raises a la Jack Webb style.

At this point we detoured and spent a few minutes crawling through the bushes, looking for a tire that simply was not there!!! So we returned to the pavilion for a round of Inch Bears. All pax would get into the plank while the last pax would bear crawl to the front, rinse and repeat. For the return trip we modified to a Gore Lunge, where all pax would Al Gore and the last would lunge walk to the front, rinse and repeat.

We finished out with 90seconds of Mary. Some LBCs and Flutter kicks.
Announcements about camping, go-ruck San Antonio, FIA/F3 mashup, and COT and prayer.

  • And there were two… – from Hogs Breath

So first as YHC headed toward grandmothers house, the entrance to the trailhead on Girod st. was being repaired….not to be deterred I skirted the block to enter on Lafitte st.
When as I pull up, only Zoolander and myself were present. The mumble chatter went something akin

    “Do you have the q?”
    “No, do you?”

Well in the absence of a Q, what would we do?
Make our own of course! We decided to wait a few minutes with a warm-up to see if any others should show…

    Imperial walkers x 15
    Touch touches x10
    Hairy rockettes x 15
And maybe some side straddle hops

When we determined that no one else would show, we headed for a mosey to the lakefront and North on lakeshore to the pier wall and back. On the way we had some good mumble chatter of life, nicknames and reasons both of these make us sore…

Returning to grandmas house with about 10 mins we did some Mary. Zoolander preformed a Mary exercise (Big boy sit-ups, crunchy frogs, flutter kicks, LBC, Obliques) while YHC would run to the top of the tower and preform a Burpee at the top, the run down and switch. We rounded the Mary out with a 40sec plank.

Where two gather there will be pain!

  • Oh I Bet! – from Russo

If you’ve ever seen YHC at a beatdown, there are certain things you can bet money on:
    (1) There will be sweating. A lot of sweating. Shooter in a sauna sweating. Tanked up on mile 10 sweating. (Even money)
    (2) At some point the phrase “Yeah you right” will be uttered (2:1)
    (3) A deck of cards might find its way into the beatdown (5:1)

If you had found a way to find a casino willing to take a three-bet parlay on those things happening at Granny’s this week, you would have made at LEAST $4.17.

Pax of 4 this week to see what the cards had in store.

    Warmup (pretty much all IC)
    Seal jacks
    Toe touches
    High knees
    Arm circles
    Butt kicks
    Torso twists

    Thang before the thang

Pax did a quick course YHC refers to as a “conveyor belt”: lunge walk to each column at granny’s, and drop to a burpee there. Up and around the pilot house, then lunge walk backward, hitting a burpee at each column on the way back as well.

    Thang
It had been a few months since breaking out the stinky, dirty, stained deck YHC loves to use, so Pax did another deck of death (!!!), this time splitting into halves instead of fours

    1st half:
    Diamonds: Merkins
    Spades: jump squats
Clubs: shoulder tabs (2 is 1)
    Hearts: Six inch drill (IC)

Halftime: Almost as much fun as the puppy bowl is to the super bowl, a quick slalom mosey among granny’s columns, just to say we, ahem, “ran”.

    2nd half:
Diamonds: Makhtar N’Diayes (which morphed into more merkins because exposed elbows and forearms don’t much enjoy smacking pavement repeatedly)
    Spades: Suicide squats
    Clubs: Freak Nastys
    Hearts: Leg Raises

Having a little time left, Pax gave it a go for another mosey around the warehouse and past the stage.

COT and Name-A-Rama closed us out. You can say it was, err, um, ahem: Aces!

Thanks for joining me and we’ll do it all again soon.

  • Up and down, to a factor of 11 – from Russo

Admittedly a little sad that this might be the last beatdown with temps that could reasonably be considered “cold” by anyone’s standards (excluding Toto), YHC’s mood was immediately improved when seeing a sight for sore eyes: making his long awaited return from a brief hiatus? BUBBA!

A pax of 3 visited Granny, showing her our favorite moves as follows:
    Warm-up
    Seal jacks
    Cherry pickers
    Toe touches
    Imperial walkers

    Thang
Mosey to the bus stop, where pax completed 15 reps of freak nastys, derkins, step ups

Pax then moseyed in the dark, managing to avoid lane separators on the trail, to the tunnel (of love?).

There began the factor of 11: Merkins on one side, mosey the tunnel (yes, braving the altitude to mosey back up after the deep dark recesses of the down), crunchy cowbells, errr, frogs on the other side.

After reminding ourselves how many ways there are to count to 11 with only 2 digits, pax moseyed back to start to wrap up with a little Mary, but not before another 15 freak nastys, step ups, and derkins.

Mary included a visit from Dr. W, some leg raises, and a minute or so of plank.

COT and prayer closed us out until next time.

As always, YHC is humbled to have led such a fine group, and even more humbled to count myself among an even larger, finer group that was not able to join us.

  • Running at Grandmother’s House? No, it cannot be! – from Amnesia

The cold must have frightened away any who otherwise would have posted on a holiday. Sad. Despite much chatter the night before, only Slots, Russo, and YHC attended the morning’s beatdown. 18 degrees by my calculation. And Russo wore shorts! As Run Cajun Run is well underway, YHC figured he would rather Q a run than attend a non-running Q as a participant. Especially with all of the grumbling from his RCR team regarding his shortage of miles.

Warm-o-Rama: 20 each of SSH, imperial walkers, and high knees.

The Thang: We started off with running. We ran to the lakefront, then did 10 merkins and 10 freak nasties on the wall, just so it wasn’t 100% running. That was followed by more running, with a quick stop for 20 crunchy frogs (in honor of Cowbell – noticeably absent) and 20 squats. And then some running back to the start.

Mary: Maybe not 6 minutes, but we wrapped up with 20 each of leg lifts, flutterkicks, mountain climbers, Peter Parkers, and dying cockroaches.

Thanks for letting me lead, guys! Also, for any interested, Russo proved that you can sweat profusely in sub-20 degree temps!

  • Screw It Dude, Let’s Go for a Run – from Bushwacker

QIC showed up early to unleash a hidden surprise and then started warming up with laps. Nobody showed… except Cowbell, so we ran!
    THE END
