  • Tuesday mixer at Granny’s!! – from Shooter

YHC decided to mix it up some with cardio, upper/lower and strength to go with our weather we been having lately.. Not knowing if one should wear a jacket or a beanie, Q decided on both for the cool morning.. PAX can always count on Bushwacker wearing his sweatshirt and hoodie if the temperature is below 60 🥶🥶… Success was found however when 20 mins into the beatdown the Wacker needed to ask if we were staying at our location or wether he should carry the sacred sweatshirt, as he removed with YHC effectively getting up the heart rate and perspiration…

    Warmup
    10IC
Good mornings, Cherry pickers, Grass grabbers, Superman’s, Scorpion kicks, Bridges left/right and SSH..

    Thang
First part was mosey down Lafitte stopping and performing 5 8 count body builders, 10 Jump squats, 15 lunges. Next block 5 Navy seal burpees, 10 Imperial squat walkers and 15 sister Mary Katherine’s..
    R/R on the way back..

Corridor with coupons, core and cardio..
PAX circles completing core work while 1 PAX military presses cylinder block up and down the staircase till each PAX completes.. With Zoolander present one would suspect 1 arm or 1 handed something or other, however todays 1 arm show was presented by the rehabilitating Bushwacker.. Core exercises were plank jacks, Mountain climbers, hello dollies, LBCs, flutter kicks and gas pumps.
Next on to the jump rope and tuck plate.. 2 teams of 3 alternating curls and rope while 2 others weaved through the pillars or post to Lafitte street and returned alternating till each PAX completed each series..
Ended with 1 min of chillcut plank…

    Count, announce, COT

Don’t forget Marsh Madness headed up by Zoolander this Saturday and the Convergence on 4/1 “The Fury” come for one, come for some or come for ALL but at least Come!!

Appreciate Bushwacker closing us with gratitude and servitude and until the next Gloom 👍🏼👊🏼✌🏼!!!

  • A Whimsically Wacky Workout – from Bushwacker

“Ask my wife about that word, ‘whimsical.’ She’ll tell you it’s my favorite word….it’s not.”
    -Russo

Arriving to see Russo was a given. His pretty mug can be found in the dictionary right next to the word “reliable.” But with two minutes to spare, a scintillatingly sweet, yet brutishly masculine laundry scent wafted past the ol’ schnoz, signalling the arrival of the Fighting Irishman himself, Shooter. Assembled was the perfect group to test out a few new ideas!

    WARMORAMA

21’s – SSH IC, 1-5 out loud, 6-21 silent. If anyone stopped too soon or a little late, 10 burpees and start again. Excelsior! the PAX were perfect on the initial attempt.

Alarm Clock – PAX lay flat on the ground and at the Q’s signal get to their feet and did a hop as fast as possible x6-7

Aussie Snow Angels – IC x 10 In Superman position with feet and hand extended, make the snow angle motion.

Ballerina Toe Squats – On toes, a la Calf Raise, slow squat with good balance.

    THANG

Now, from time to time you find the the number of HIM posting can determine whether or not an audible is in order. As it so happens, the gloom at Granny’s was one of those times. But it all worked to the best. With this trio, a little original action was just what the Wacker ordered.

Follow the Leader Mosey – For 5 minutes a piece, separated by 10 counts, each PAX lead the line wherever he damn well pleased! This meant up and down stairs, along garden borders, down the street – wherever. Also thrown in for good measure, were moves such a Carioca, Box Jumps and Back peddling, OH MY! It was very dynamic, blood-pumping…and WHIMSICAL.

Bucket Brigade – Starting at the top of the stairs with each man standing 2 steps apart, a 25 lb plate was passed down the stairs and back up again Indian Run- style x2.

Bruce Lee – 3 sets of IC x10 Hammers, Leg Raises, LBCs, Penguins, Crunchy Frogs, and 100s

    MARY

Zombie Crunch – Basically, and LBC with knees to one side. Each side x 25

    XYs – IC 1,2 Hello Dolly, 3,4 Flutter Kick x 25

    Slow Freddys – a 4 count per leg x25

    1 minute Plank

    1 minute Superman

    COT

Count, name, Shooter prayed us out with special intentions for SOGO and his family.

    Endurathon 3/17 – 3/19

7 Year Convergence “The Fury” 4/1

Well done gentlemen! Come out and see what YHC has in store at The Scramble this Thursday…

  • We all know Grannies are Reliable, but so is Russo!! – from Shooter

With temperatures feeling like summer, YHC and Reliable Russo decided to get out in the gloom and perspire our way through the streets of ole Mandeville… Plan of action bounced through my mind since signing up to Q, however one thing was certain to be included was the Navy Seal burpee brought from down range Einstien (Katy) a few weeks ago…

    Warmup
    All 10IC
    • Bridges
    • Scorpion kicks
    • Superman’s
    • Toe Touches
    • Torso twists
    • Abe Vogadas
    • Imperial walkers
    • Cherry pickers
    • Grass Grabbers

    Thang
Moseyed down the trace towards the Marsh. Stopped at Marigny to perform 5 Navy seal burpees, 10 jump squats and 15 (2/1) mountain climbers.. R/R each corner in a square back to Grannies. With the heart rate elevated, decided to keep it going in the corridor with a reduced Dora of said 50,100 and 150 which YHC quickly modified to 30, 100 and 150 of the same said exercises cumulative.

P1 did exercise while P2 shuffled down and returned for the first series and the last sets of 100 and 150 back peddled and somewhat of a sprint returning… I know the Q was gassing on the returns as the heart rate stayed elevated…

Took to the the steps for a Math lesson that was easily picked up by Russo (Raider Pride) but would have definitely slowed the completion with chatter of understanding from say a no show Bushwacker.. Each step 2 calf raises 1-4 steps increasing to 4 calf raises steps 4-8, 6 calf raises 8-12, 8 calf raises 12-16 etc. etc. with the finale of 12 on steps 20-24..

Returned to the bottom to close with Mary..
    20IC
    • Little Manny Crunches
    • Left/Right elbow to knee
    • Flutter kicks
    • Hello Dollies
    • Jane Fonda’s (EiEi style) regular, toe to knee and pulses..

Mentioned announcements and the Release from Wacker tomorrow about the Northshore convergence, wrap up of RCR and Endurathon..

    Till the next Gloom 👍🏼👊🏼✌🏼!!

  • Krewe of F3BacchThothMion – from Russo

Mid 60s and mild this morning after just picture perfect weather over the weekend for revelry in all forms.

School’s out, which means a Jose sighting, and he didn’t disappoint: ready to go with beads (that were conspicuously absent after a while) and light up rings. PI joined us from the ‘Dell to represent the “out of town tourist”, and Bird pulled up a minute or so late, representing the reveler that sneaks his way to the front after the crowds have been gathered for hours. YHC took the position of Q / float captain, and away we went with the Krewe of F3 F3BacchThothMion (mythical god of fellowship, burpees, and mumblechatter).

    WARMUP (all IC, 10x – 20x) –
    – SSHs (Hey over here throw me something)
    – Toe touches (Bend down to pick up the light up beads)
    – Arm circles (Wind up the pitching arm to perfectly throw to the babies in the ladders)
    – High knees (practicing our St. Paul’s band high steps to impress the judges)

One man climbs the pilot house to the “balcony”, while another tosses him a foam Endymion football that are now pervasive in YHC’s house. The other men held plank position until their turn.

There may or may not have been flashing to entice a throw.

COT, Name-o-Rama, announcements (Nehemiah project’s Endurathon this weekend, see/contact Hammer for more info) and prayer closed us out.

Thanks for joining/reading. You guys make it easier to get up before 5 on a day off from work and push myself to get better.

  • Bird hit the bricks – from Russo

Mid 50s temp wise this morning as I started light work at 5:15, resigned to the fact I might be flying solo at Granny’s. A quick column slalom and some calf raises up the pilot steps, and then as I grab a couple bricks from the trunk, here comes Bird (Caw caw!) to join.

    – Seal jacks
    – self love
    – Toe touches
    – Cherry pickers

    Thang

As has been my M.O. for a while, with the bricks already pulled out because I wasn’t looking forward to a mosey as far as I had planned, it was the 4th iteration of hitting the bricks:

Tabata (one minute, then 30 seconds rest)

    Each round was:
    – curl presses
    – Cherry pickers
    – Hallelujah squats
    – Arm circles
    – Tricep extensions
    – Milk maids

Before each round, a mosey around Granny’s house proper.

COT, Name-o-Rama, Announcements and Prayer closed us out.

  • Factor of 10 – from Russo

Mid 60’s, humid, foggy, puddles everywhere. This morning’s weather at Granny’s left something to be desired, but the company did not, and with the weather a carbon copy of yesterday’s, allowed me to copy and paste here. Two HIM joined YHC to visit the Tunnel: it had been too long, even if MeatSweats and Shooter disagreed.

    Warmup (all 10-15x IC)

    – Toe touches
    – Torso twists
    – Grass grabbers
    – Arm circles

Mosey to the bus stop for 10 freak nasty’s IC, 10 durkins, and 10 IC Bulgarian split squats.

Mosey over to the tunnel, stopping along the way for 10 IC copperhead squats.

At the tunnel, it was either a “Russo run” of mosey down the tunnel, side shuffle through, and back pedal up, or a “walk-sprint-mosey” combo, where after each run we did one of:
    – 10 t merkins
    – 10 shoulder tap plank jacks
    – 10 jump squats
    – 10 hip slaps
    – 10 star jumps
    – 10 donkey kicks
    – 10 big boy sit-ups
    – 10 crunchy frogs IC

Recovery walk and mosey back to reverse course and do another 10 copperhead squats, 10 BSSs, durkins, and freak nastys.

    – 20 IC LMCs
    – 20 IC flutter kicks

6:01 meant it was time for COT, Name-o-Rama, and prayer to close out, where we continued to lift up Akbar and his mom. Also note that the Ivan is this Friday (7:30 ruck start, 8 run start) and RCR begins tomorrow. Slack had the info.

Thank you to both of my compadres this week. SYITG

  • Chewy’s Chewy’s Right, I’m an Idiot! – from Bushwacker

What would you say to your brother, who was 2 weeks out from shoulder surgery, when you pull up to an AO and see him standing there in standard maroon hoodie winter-wear and padded compound sling? If you were our own resident physical therapist Chewy, you would say, “YOU’RE AN IDIOT!” (though not in so many words. It was more like, “What are you doing here?!” and, “I don’t agree with this” and, “If I have Q next week and you show up I’m not leading.”) So why was YHC posting to a bootcamp AO with stitches, sutures, and a bum wing? Why was QIC leading a leg/core beatdown when he should be in bed convalescing? It’s because F3 is my medicine, and with great risk comes great reward! (and modifying is easiest when you control the exercises) And today the reward was an ample serving of lunge walking and ab ripping.

    WARMORAMA

    x10 IC:
SSH, Slow Squats, Torso Twists, Good Mornings, Self Love

    THANG

Entering the trace near the stairs, the PAX lung walked aaaaall the way to the bus depot.
    IC x5,10 or 12:
Step Ups, In N Outs, Bulgarian Split Squats, Leg R

Mosied to the tunnel and partnered up. P1 ran down the ramp, lunge walked across the tunnel and up the opposite ramp, before doing the same in reverse order. P2 did a prearranged core exercise. For each round both partners did the exercise.

    Hello Dollys, and LBCs,

On account of timeliness, the PAX cut short of the last exercise and returned to the hypothetical flag for Mary.

    MARY

x25 IC: Little Manny Crunches, Gas Pumps, Flutter Kicks and 1 minute Plank

    COT

Count/Name, and with special intentions for Bushwacker’s addled brain, Chewy prayed us out.

In the end, the risk was well worth it, though I have no intentions of repeating such foolishness in the near future. I went to my othopedist, got my stitches removed, and was told the “real fun” was about to begin. Bring it on!

This Thursday 5:30pm Movie Night @ Wackerville featuring Boondock Saints. 62215 Raymond Rd in Big Branch, bring your food/beverage of choice, there will be both a traditional and an Italian sausage king cake served.

Friday February 3rd 8pm start time @ the Gazebo on the Lakefront the Northshore PAX will be defending the Freedom Hammer in the 2023 KRAZY IVAN! Drinks to follow at the Barley Oak.

  • Nutcrackers part II: it’s new to you! – from Russo

Right at 67 degrees and muggy for our first trip to Granny’s in the new year, where we welcomed the returns of JV and MeatSweats, as well as semi-regular Chewy and Site Q Steve.

Back when network TV was still somewhat of a thing, I remember NBC ran a series of commercials touting their popular shows that were in reruns with the tag line “If you haven’t seen it, it’s new to YOU!”

What a brilliant way to market warmed up leftovers, so I stole that thought today with a “If you haven’t done it yet, it’s new to you” beatdown incorporating bricks.

    Warmup (all 10-15x IC)
    – Seal jacks
    – SSHs
    – Toe touches
    – Grass grabbers
    – High knees
    – Self love
    – Imperial walkers

    Thang

Tabata: 1 minute each with bricks, 30 seconds rest, 2 rounds, with some moseying before each one.

    -Arm curls
    -Cherry pickers
    -Hallelujah squats
    -Arm circles
    -Triceps extensions
    -Milk maids

Nut crackers down the columns (where Chewy decided to break out his best “HULK SMASH” impersonation and crush one of his with his bare hands), followed by 11s: Crunchy Frogs and Merkins with the bricks.

COT, Name-o-Rama, and prayer closed us out. Remember Grundy’s Nightmare looks to be scheduled for this Sunday around 1. Check Slack for confirmation or more info.

    Until the next time, SYITG.
