  • Run and Remember

-“A thousand tragedies a day, but the one’s that hit home are the most real.”

I heard about Lexington, SC FiA’s Diane “Digits” Wells’ unfortunate and untimely death Tuesday morning while she was doing something we City Hall Scramblers take for granted…running. She left behind a husband and 3 small children. Digits was a leader who lived the FiA principals. As an avid runner, she did everything right, wearing reflective clothing and lights, but was still struck down in the middle of a crosswalk. Her story occupied my mind while we ran.

While we celebrate Jesus’ birth and the myriad of blessing in our lives, please keep her family and friends in your prayers.

  • The Nightmare Before Christmas

‘Twas nine nights before Christmas, and all around a flag, a nightmare was shared that involved weights in a bag. There was Shooter and Steve and Turbo and Grundy. Tanked Up and Suckles and briefly Burgundy. Barely Legal, Jose, and American Hammer. Bean Counter, Garfield, and of course Zoolander.

A collective experience of terror ensued that forced all the men in the PAX to conclude. That the “leader” was not their friend from before, but rather a tyrant they rather deplored. Jose had some hostile feelings today, but that’s what you get with 2 rounds of foreplay.

Sometimes we went slick and sometimes with a ruck, and in the times it got hard we embraced the suck. It went back and forth on what was hated more, but both burpees or manmakers sure made us all sore.   For those not aware or not in the know, here is the list of the workout below.

    The Nightmare Before Christmas
    Slick (no ruck):
    100 burpees
    1 mile run
    50  burpees
    1 mile run
With Ruck 30 or 20 lb
    100 manmakers
    1 mile ruck
    50 manmakers
    1 mile ruck
    Slick (no ruck):
    100 pushups
    100 situps
    100 air squats
    100 4-ct mountain climbers
    100 4-ct jumping jacks
    100 4-ct flutter kicks
With Ruck 30 or 20 lb
    100 ruck press
    100 plank ruck pull through
    100  2-ct ruck twists

One might ask why anyone would do this, and I’ll give you the reason that you cannot dismiss. It was 13 men committed to Fellowship, Faith, and Fitness, and thus was the workout “The Nightmare Before Christmas”.

  • Nightmare before Christmas hangover!!

With the dreaded sound of the alarm at 0430 Q arose still haunted by the previous Nightmares he experienced midday Sunday. While a fartsack is much easier to pull off when your not the Q for the day, consideration of pitching a curveball to a fellow F3 Brother did indeed cross my mind. However, knowing I Ehed Garfield from the Nightmare before Christmas it was most fitting to skip the snooze and commit with no excuses. Arrived hot at 0500 to 4 brethren awaiting at center court of the Marsh. Knowing we would be down one of our regulars for the day Ringo, instructions were brief and jumped right in.

    Warmup

All IC 10 Good mornings, Toe Touches, Windmills, Butt kicks and Mummy kicks..

Moseyed to the seawall for some Aiken legs. Consisted of 20 Squats, 20 Box jumps, 20 Leg lunges and 20 skip Jacks. R/R (3). Recovery walked a few and then moseyed to our lighted bus stop on Girard. Upon arrival we did a series of Burp O  to 10 R/R (3). Squat position down to Merkin and back to squat. This one reminded Water Pik of a lineman football drill in his distant past in which he may or may not have participated. Will need to clarify that one with some chatter at the Scramble. Moseyed back to the AO for some Bolt 45s with a little lagniappe on top. Did 4 rounds of Bolts followed by 70,80,90 and 100% sprints baseline to baseline between each set.. With 5 mins to spare we took to our six for Coconuts favorite of the day Core work. LBCs 20 IC, Hello Dolly’s 20 IC, Nolan Ryan’s each side 10 IC and finished things up with a min of Chilcut plank..

    Count, announce, COT

👏🏻 to Coconuts for praying us out with a reminder of the season and the reasons of thankfulness!!

👊🏻 to the PAX for keeping me accountable and allowing me to lead..

    ✌🏻 till the next Gloom!

  • Strangers at the Scramble!!

The Scramble has impressed the Site Q week in and week out as of late with some great consistency. PAX have ranged from 8-10 gathering for our rountine 5k with a mix of exercises. So much so that we tend to have a PAX magically appear along the way at which another PAX Water Pik turns around to the surprise of Burgundy after about a mile in.. Conversations always prove fun and engaging with a variation of topics such as about our Saints discussing the success as of late and the need for some Fantasy football guys who need certain people to step up in future weeks as the playoffs have begun. ..

    Warmup

All IC of 10 Windmills, Toe Touches, Scuba Steve’s and Scorpion kicks..

    Thang

Journeyed the common route through the streets of Ole Beautiful Mandeville. Returning to the AO for 10 mins of a mixer of ISI, Merkin Wave, Flutter kicks, LBCs and Pull-ups. Circled up to count off and announce the future Nightmare before Christmas on 12/16 at the Mandeville Lakefront at 1300 for any PAX looking for a true punishment shared amongst brothers.. Also touching on the Crazy Ivan 1/19/19 at 2100 at which we need to pry the Hammer out of the hands of EiEi for visual inspiration to come soon..

    COT

Q prayed us into the day!

Much appreciation to the F3 men who decided to flatter the Q on this Spring like Gloom before the next cold front to come!!

  • November heat wave

    CONDITIONS

YHC arrived to the AO wearing his mukluks and balaclava this morning after all the chilly posts this week but got to dump them when the temps hit 60°F this A.M.

    DISCLAIMER

Q delivered the classic disclaimer copied from our friend Einstein: “It’s obvious that I’m not a professional.  Be safe out there.”

    THE WARM UP Proper

The assembled PAX warmed up with the following sequence, all exercises done IC.

    -Split Jacks 15X
-Toe Touches (just in time for our amigo Chewy to roll-in hot)  10X
    -Hairy rockette kicks 15X
-Ray Finkles 15X (tough to maintain balance)

    THE THANG Scramble style

YHC fiddled with his fancy fitness tracker gizmo for a minute or two. Then the assembled PAX pounded out the 5k on our usual scramble route.

    THE THANG Phase 2

Paul Cordes park has new exercise equipment which the PAX put to use after returning from our run.

First they ran through a session of “Morning Call”
One pax cranked through pull ups while everyone else did Merkins and held plank until our whole crew made it through the circuit.

With only two minutes to go before the buzzer sounded PAX finished with AMRAP of lunges.

Thanks Mandeville Parks and Rec for the new toys.  Don’t say big government never did anything for you.

    CountORama, NameORama, and COT

Thanks to Sprockets for praying us out with encouraging words of thanks and praise.

    MOLESKIN

Special T-Claps to Ringo who “hit for the cycle” Northshore style and posted four consecutive times.  He started the week as an FNG and is now a regular.

Thanks F3-bros, for the fellowship, the beatdowns and for being willing to follow my lead.

  • Card tricks at the Marsh

Arrived at the Marsh from the Holiday weekend with the deck of cards in hand. Looked to be a ghost town as the Q only noticed the sights of Garfield sitting in the warmth of his vehicle. Next a new vehicle the Q had not seen in post past pulls in. Out jumps our FNG at the Marsh, welcome Ringo. As he walks up to the PAX Q noticed another coming in hot. But of course a weekly AO would not be the same without the POSTmaster himself Coconuts.. Read quick disclaimer and jump into the warmup.

15IC Imperial Walkers, SSH, Hillbillies, Smurf Jacks and Tor touches.

YHC dispensed the instruction of how the deck would flow at multiple points throughout the workout.. Cards were worth face value  ♥️ Representing cardio, ♦️ Legs, ♣️Core and ♠️ Upper body..

First round showed mostly ♦️ (Squats) and some ♣️ (Flutter kicks). As well as the first joker at which the FNG was offered the opportunity to chose upper or lower for a 25 count. Choosing upper we did 25 shoulder taps.. Moseyed to RIPs on the lake.

Round 2 produced ♥️ (Sprints up and down the stairs) and a few ♦️ (Leg Lunges). Moseyed to the make shift bus stop.

Round 3 ♥️ (Knee ups), ♦️ (Leg lunges), ♣️ (Freddie Mercury’s) and our first introduction to some Merkins. Moseyed back the court

Final round included some ♦️ (Leg lunges), ♣️ LBCs and our 2nd joker made its appearance at which the PAX had to complete 25 pull-ups or as many as possible with the 4 mins remaining. Kudos to Coconuts completing the 25 OYO..

At completion we circled up to learn some more about our FNG restaurateur-drummer named Ringo… talked about Matheletes beatdown from Saturday, which seemed to be interesting with varying concrete bowling balls.. Garfield shared they were up for adoption to anyone interested which tells me it’s not the last of those balls at a post near you…

Thanks for the lead and Appreciate the commit to post brothers of F3!!

    👍🏻👊🏻💪🏻✌🏻Till the next Gloom

  • Thanksgiving Week Malaise

Let’s get this holiday week started with a solid post in the Gloom of the Milestone Marsh!  At least that was the plan….

After a brief Warm Up of SSH, Imperial Walkers, High Knees and Butt Kicks, YHC and Garfield made a round trip to the Lakefront and back to get the blood flowing at a brisk 7 minute per mile pace.

Back to the AO, it was time for some Work at the Playground equipment.  The work included Australian pullups, Squats, Merkins, Rower sit ups, and Putins.  And then…that was it.

YHC and Garfield chatted about Grey Fox sightings, Coyote sightings, the upcoming Krazy Ivan, working out on a track instead of running on the pavement.  We covered a lot of bases and solved a lot of the world’s problems.

    YHC prayed us out!

Happy Thanksgiving, Men of F3.  We all have so much to be thankful for.

  • Saturday night social pays off at the Scramble!!

4 PAX decided to post at the Scramble with moderate temperatures in the 30s and wind chill factor making it feel like the high 20s.. 👏🏻 Welcome to FNG “OD” for posting his first AO. With multiple EHs coming from all directions, Water Pik put the close on our new brotha at a Saturday night social that sealed the deal.. Knowing the crowd would be a little lighter as hibernation season approaches YHC started right in not expecting any late arrivals..

    Warmup

    10 IC Good mornings

    10IC Windmills

    20 IC Butt kicks

    20 IC Imperial Walkers

    20 IC High knees

    thang

Moseyed the course splitting into pairs and striking conversation along the way.. Learning more about your brethren as you go through a beatdown is one of the things this YHC enjoys the most about F3.. Remembering where we came from and the joys of life we have experienced as we continue the journey of life.. Appreciate the conversation Garfield..

Upon return, we hop over to the new fitness section of the park to get some use out of  the new equipment our tax dollars recently purchased. First up we did 20 IC Freak nasties, 3 pax then took to their 6 for LBCs as each man cycled through 5 pull-ups returning and then a round of Flutter kicks with another 5 pull-ups. As promised to a few at the Marsh on Monday the PAX closed out with some Yoga stretch. Down dog alternating calf stretch, inner lizard 🦎 stretch and outer 🦎 stretch closing with 🦂 kicks IC 20 and reach backs for the Hammies..

    COT, naming of “OD”, announcements

Q prayed us out into the day!!

Appreciate the lead men, until the next Gloom!!

    👍🏻👊🏻💪🏻✌🏻

  • Ivan is coming

South Louisiana storms woke YHC at 3:00 a.m. and he worried that the Northshore F3-bros would have to scrub another mission due to the elements, but when I arrived at the AO storms had cleared and we were go for launch.

    CONDITIONS

I don’t have the stats for the weather conditions, but the court conditions at the Milestone Marsh were exquisite.  Some good samaritan took a leaf blower and cleaned the b-ball court that is the centerpiece of the Milestone Marsh AO.  Was that you @Bushwhacker?  @Mandeville Parks and Rec, maybe?  IAE, thanks for the solid.

    DISCLAIMER

Q offered a half-hearted disclaimer, but the Q’s limitations were old news to the expert, assembled PAX.

    THE WARM UP Proper

The assembled PAX warmed up with the following sequence, all exercises done IC.

    -SSH
    -Good Mornings
    -Imperial Walkers
    -High Knees
-Lizard/Geico stretches (Because who wants to strain the groin?)

    THE WARM UP Lagniappe

Basketball season is underway.  (It’s that round shaped ball, #TranslatingForMyFootballFanaticBros) YHC commemorated b-ball season by adding free throws to the warm-up.  F3 wrinkle was that a miss got you 5 burpees.

Unfortunately YHC did his Shaq impersonation and took some garbage free throws leading to my penalty burpees.  Next time I’ll imitate Wilt and shoot granny style.  T-Claps to Waterpik for draining them.  Our friend has skillz.

    THE THANG Preview

YHC wanted to put the newly cleaned court to good use so we started with a “Brenton” drill.

    Bear Crawl (100 ft)
    Standing Broad-Jumps (100 ft)
    Perform 3 Burpees after every 5 Broad-Jumps

The official Brenton calls for 5 rounds, but we had other work to do and called it after two sets.

THE THANG Part 1: Better run, Ivan is coming

Northshore QIC’s have been great at hyping the upcoming Krazy Ivan.  (January 19th #MarkYourCalendarsNow)  So if Ivan is coming we better get our run on.  To improve our speed YHC called one of his favorites:
100 yard sprint + 10 merkins at the finish.
    Repeat 10X.

Before running, PAX were issued the newly invented “double disclaimer.”  We were diligent to avoid slipping on the wet asphalt and avoiding the F3-Faceplant. (F4?)

THE THANG Finale:  If it’s the Marsh, it’s gotta be pull-ups

We moseyed back to the Marsh and hopped on the playground equipment.  (gym equipment?)  The Marsh is the only AO that has convenient pull-up (monkey) bars.

YHC called ten rounds of pull-ups, merkins and squats with the Pax belting them out every-minute-on-the-minute.  PAX finished out the 45 minute beatdown and declared victory.

    CountORama, NameORama, and COT

Thanks to our amigo Waterpik for praying us out

    MOLESKIN

After smelling some skunk funk during the workout, Garfield shared some stories about Mandeville wildlife.  Ask him the one about the deer, the schoolkids and the Mandeville public works dept.

Thanks F3-bros, for the fellowship, the beatdowns and for being willing to follow my lead.
