  • Whose Flag is That Anyway? – from Bushwacker

YHC FINALLY remembered to bring a truckload of shovel flags from the Fury, and, somehow still went home with 2/3 of them 🤔

Good temp, succinct warm-orama, great cameo! Let me speak only honest words: QIC was relieved to not see Speedy upon last-second arrival. First “shared run” on new shoes, humidity on the rise again and YHC in less than peak form, you’ll forgive El Wackador if inner jubilation was present. I still love you Speedy.😘

The consummate odd couple of Severn Ave. decided to ruck off in the direction of Sunset Point whilst the remaining trio ran for just over 4 miles that both broke down my silent resolve to be silent, and had a former Scramble shuffler potentially EH’d to return as maybe ruckless rucker? Good ol’ Garfield ran a little stretch of the lakefront with the crew, aflight such as we were.

A brief slathering of yoga-esque recovery until the ruckers descended on the flag(s) deep in the throws of discourse.

Count/name, Zoorich Classic Saturday – bring frisbees and friends if you’ve got either. Men’s dinner at St Timothy tonight @6:30 hit up Russo if interested in going. JV prayed us out.

    Many thanks, gents!

  • Leg Day

Still smarting from the Downpainment put forth on the Lakefront by Akbar on Saturday, YHC was looking for a reprieve from upper extremity soreness to start the week.

So, with that in mind, LEGS were the order of the day.

Mosey to Lakefront stopping at each intersection for: Jump squats, Mountain Climbers, Peter Parkers, Flutter Kicks and SMKs.

Mosey to Marigny for some speed work. Split the PAX into 2 groups. Object is to go around Noah’s Ark as fast as you can. Rinse and repeat and hold plank while your partner Circled Noah’s Ark. After 2 rounds, YHC, fully exhausted, called off the 3rd set and Hit the Seawall for: Bulgarian Split Squats.

With time running out, it was time to Mosey back to the Marsh making just in time before the Bell sounded

COT and thanks to Goose for praying us out.

  • Good to be Back, Men!

For various reasons, YHC has been away from the gloomy streets of Old Mandeville, unable to post at the Scramble and the Marsh (YHC’s 2 favorite AOs) on a regular basis for the last 3 months. But today was different! YHC was excited to be back out ratting the streets with some of his runnin podnuhs. Here’s to hoping for more posts in the future.

Here’s a LOOSE description of what went down and who was there to attest.

Warmup: SSHs, BKs, HKs, Imperial Walker Squats, GMs.

Thang: Mosey over to workout Equipment for 3 sets of Pull ups x 5, alternating w/ 10 squats.

Mosey to Lakefront, stopping at each intersection for some exercises: Putins, Leg Raises, Crunchy Frogs, Merkins, Mountain Climbers, Peter Parkers, Al Gores, Chill Cut Planks. Then off to Rips for some up and over work before heading back to the Marsh to close out.

Thanks to the always loquacious Bushwacker for praying us out!

Good to be back out there in the gloom with you men. F3–Always pushing ahead, always pushing forward!

  • Getting Arctic Blasted at Grandma’s House

Temps dropped considerably overnight due to an Arctic Blast moving in. Add to it a little rain, but there was no stopping four F3 Northshore Hard Legs from showing up in the gloom.

Warm O Rama: Good Mornings, Toe Touches, Arm Circles, Side Straddle Hops, Wind Mills, Imperial Walkers.

    The Thang:

Mosey over to the playground basketball court where PAX did the Wilt Chamberlain routine(Named for his 100 point game): PAX ran to end of court, did 100 LBC’s. Ran to other side, did 100 squats. Ran back to other side, did 100 Flutter kicks. Ran again to other side and finished with 100 lunges.

Next PAX did the “Nolan Richardson” routine (slightly modified) on the court: PAX Partnered up. PAX 1 performed each exercise denoted below as partner 2 backpedaled (Forgot to do the Bobby Hurley), and jogged back to continue the exercise from the count accumulated by partner 1. PAX continued until the repetition count stated below was met: 1. Burpees(75) 2. Squats(150) 3. Big Boy sit ups(150) 4. Arm Circles 5. Merkins(75) 6. Imperial Walkers(150)

PAX then moseyed over to the Trailhead. On our way, a couple hunting and fishing stories are told. One PAX mentions a story of deer that was shot (either by him or a partner) 100 yards away with a cross-bow. Confessed that it was in reality probably only 50 yards (half that). PAX joked about “fish tales” and how when discussing hunting and fishing, things are 1/2 as far away than they really are. Or in some cases things are 1/2 the size it really is…As one PAX pointed out, same as when spitting game with women.

At the trailhead, rain started to pick up.

With time running out, YHC called an audible and shortened his planned routine at the Bell Tower. PAX partnered up again. PAX 1 did Irkins up the stairs and ran back down while PAX 2 did squats at the bottom. Idea was to keep going and flap jack until 150 squats were accumulated. We got it done in only 2 rounds.

YHC had more fun and games planned, but will had to save for next week as time had expired.

    COT – Counto Namo

    Cowbell prayed us out.

Thanks Guys, for letting me lead!!!

  • Running in Circles

Maverick put such a whuppin’ on our upper bodies yesterday at the Gipper that YHC had preordained there’d be no burpees, no merkins, and no pull-ups at the (post) Scramble this morning.

We began with one the slowest warmoramas YHC has led, and I’ve led some pretty slow ones. Good Mornings, at an excruciatingly sluggish pace, followed by windmills, toe touches, IW’s, and lunges, all x12 IC for Mackenzie’s birthday. Happy birthday, Mackenzie, whoever you are.

Finally, time to mosey. Traditional route plus some – after Sunset Point we doubled back to hit the Hermitage loop for a second time, bumping our mileage up to an even 4.

Things went south at about this point, when Akbar went AWOL, which in turn sent Shooter running in circles, which in turn had the rest of the PAX performing exactly 127 LBC’s. This, along with some overly-chatty announcements, sent us over on time by about six full minutes. Luckily, Turtle was not present to note my disrespect of the time.

Soon-to-be-retired Garfield prayed us out and the PAX scattered like the wind. Thanks men for getting me out there today, some mornings are tougher than others, and I’m incredibly thankful I have you guys to hold me accountable.

  • Diamonds In The Rough

    Warmarama:

10 reps IC for each exercise:

Toe Touches, Wind Mills, Imperial Walkers, Slow Squats, Side Straddle Hops, Seal Jacks,  High Knees, Butt Kicks, Forward Arm Circles, Reverse Arm Circles, Overhead Claps

    Mosey

    Circle Burp……

All pacs formed the best circle that 22 guys could make. Everyone starts doing High Knees. Starting and ending with yours truly, when Pac shouts “DOWN,” all pacs do one burpee. High Knees commence until the next pac says down. Rinse and repeat until all pacs have done one burpee.

    Mosey to the Park

    7 of Diamonds

Not sure if anyone found any diamonds, but I am pretty sure everyone found the bottom of their gas tanks with this one.

Starting at one corner of the park, all Pacs will perform an exercise layed out by THE Manny for 7 reps.  Once that exercise is complete, all pacs mosey to the second “corner” of the park. The same exercise is completed for the same amount of reps.  Pacs mosey to the third corner,   rinse and repeat the same exercise and reps performed at the first two corners. Once everyone gets back to the first corner, plank it up until 6 gets there and then wait for the next exercise and reps to be distributed to the troops.  Here’s how this went down this morning.

    Round 1 – 7 Burpees

    Round 2 – 14 Merkins

    Round 3 – 21 Squats

    Round 4 – 28 Plank Jacks

    Round 5 – 21 Mountain Climbers

    Round 6 – 14 Squat Jumps

    Round 7 – 7 Burpees

Mosey to the spot of the Circle Burp and get on your 6 for some Mary.

Little Manny Crunches – 15 IC

    Freddie Mercuries – 20 IC

    Flutter Kicks – 10 IC

    Leg Lifts – 10 IC

    Puttins – 10 IC

    100s – 10 IC

    Absolutions – 10 IC

Pacs break into two groups and Mosey back to flag.

Special appearance by Capt Sparkles for the Circle of Trust. Thanks for treating the 22 Pac Turn Out to coffee Capt.

    The Hammer prayed us out.

  • Running Games? I Thought You Said Fun ‘n’ Games!

The mumble chatter started the previous night at the successful meet n greet campaign party for our very own Hammer about the fact that if Turbo had the Q for Saturday, then it was either fun n games or, more likely, plenty of running, much to the consternation of more than one PAX both present and away. While, in a sense, fun n games were in fact afoot, today was a run day!

    WARMORAMA

    x20 IC:

    Seal Jacks

    Imperial Walkers

    Toe Touches

    THANG

Mosied westward down the lakefront for a stretch before we stopped for some merkins. Continued up Marigny and stopped for some Mountain Climbers. Finished up at the Marsh where we partnered up for a little competiton.

4 4 minute rounds with a running total per team:

Round 1- P1 SSH while P2 runs to opposite side of the court and performs 2 Burpees

    Round 2- P1Butt Kicks, P2 2 180 degree hops

Round 3- P1 Lateral Hops, P2 2 Tuck (Squat) Jumps

Round 4- P1 imaginary Jump Rope, P2 2 Bobby Hurleys

In between each round was 30 seconds rest, 1 minute of Plank, and 30 more seconds of rest. Teams that scored under 82 total points (all?) dropped for 10 penalty burpees.

Next, the Pax split evenly and competed head-to-head in a relay race from one end of the court to the other. The Odd numbered team performed another set of 10 penalty burpees. YHC must note that never has he seen such an intense show of drive and performance from every man at the same time as was displyed during this race!

Same teams did a double-line Indian Run back to the Lakefront, where the PAX planked for the 6, followed by a slow mosy before an all out sprint to the flag.

    COUNTORAMA

    NAMEORAMA

Naming of FNG Black Cat. Welcome brother, better late than never!

    Phoenix prayed us out.

T Claps to Turbo Tax for a well put together, high intensity beat down. It’s always a privilege to follow a great leader. Who says running can’t be fun!

  • SHOULDERING the RUNNING Responsibilties of F3 Membership

Foregoing the 2 mile pre-thang this gloom, YHC arrived in time to plant the Marsh flag next to the Scramble flag at the blustery AO and greet the menagerie of men gathered for a proper Saturday beat down

    WARM O RAMA

With a focus on the shoulder demands of what QIC had in store…

    All x25 IC:

    Seal Claps

    Overhead Claps

    Air Presses

    Cherry Pickers

    Torso Twists

    Imperial Walkers

    Windmills

    High Knees

    THANG

    Mosied to Grundy’s Noah’s Ark for…

Burpee Mile – 4 laps, each followed by 12 burpees

Mosied to between Lamarque and Foy for…

T Bombs x25 IC – Starting in crab position, 1 legs straight out, 2 feet wide, 3 feet back together, 4 legs back in

Mosied to the splash pad area for…

Blackjack – 1 merkin, run a little ways, 20 LBCs. 2 merkins, 19 LBCs, etc. until 20 merkins, 1 LBC

Q had SO much more fun in store for the PAX, however with time running short, a 2 line indian run back to the flags capped off the somewhat HIIT-like beat down that kept heart rates elevated. By Q’s count, the ISI total was 378 . Also, 3.5 miles (5.5 for the pre-thangers).

    COT

Count o rama (17 present), name o rama, and Suckles, who was back from Georgia for a quick visit, prayed us out.

Guys, a valorous and highly impressive effort was put forth by each and every one of you. I am humbly appreciative of your willingness to show up and follow my wackie lead.

Happy Father’s Day to all of the dads, and to those without kids, a happy Father’s Day to your own dear old man!

  • The Bear Necessities (Song)

    Look for the bear necessities
    The simple bear necessities
Forget about your whining and your strife
    I mean the bear necessities
    Old Grundy’s evil recipes
That brings the bear necessities to life

Wherever I wander, wherever I roam
    I couldn’t be fonder, of my F3 bro’s
The PAX as fussy as can be
And to think it’s all because of me
When they looked into the groupme chats
And took a glance at the glove demands
Then said, maybe I’ll fartsack this too…

The bear necessities of life will come find you
They’ll come find you! (Looking at you EIEI)

    Look for the bear necessities
    The “simple” bear necessities
500 yards of bear crawls will suffice
    I mean the bear necessities
Then after we can rest at ease
With just the bear necessities of life. (Coffee and F2)
With just those bear necessities of life!!!

Hope you enjoyed the song! I’ll be releasing an album of all of my F3 hits coming this Fall.

YHC thought that all of us needed a good reminder of just how hard a Saturday F3 beatdown could be. Those 15 extra minutes can be absolutely brutal. We always need that reminder.

With that in mind, this beatdown was going to bring a pain that will never be forgotten.

    #NeverForget

    Warmup

    SSH 20 IC
    Seal Jacks 20 IC
    Shoulder Series
    Carolina Dry Docks 10 IC

Mosey to the open field for the main event.

    THE THANG

    FIVE ROUNDS:
    20x SQUAT JUMPS
    50 YARD BEAR CRAWL

    FOUR ROUNDS:
20x SPLIT JUMP each side (sister mary catherines)
    40 YARD BEAR CRAWL

    THREE ROUNDS:
    20x BURPEE
    30 YARD BEAR CRAWL

We formed two lines and staggered back indian run style to the flag. After we got back, an excellent display of what F3 is all about occurred with many men going back to leave no F3 man behind.

We circled up and counted off and Butt Splice prayed us out.

I couldn’t be more proud to be a part of this group of the highest quality men and to be pushed beyond what I believe is possible. It’s an absolute honor to be able to lead you men any opportunity I get.

Until next time (after I’ve recovered from this one…)

  • Pre-thang to Northshore’s first 2 a day!!

7 PAX converged on the Scramble this Gloom preparing for their first experience with a 2 day. Cowbell will be introducing an evening Q occurring at the Mandeville Lakefront for 6 followed by some F2 at the Beach house.. YHC had considered doing some interval training, however many have come to appreciate the routine of our 5k Scramble, so no reason to break with the norm.

    Warmup

    Thang

Took to the streets of Mandeville with the PAX staying together for the first 1/4 mile or so till we crossed East Causeway approach. After crossing a couple of different groups formed. The “Gazelles” Steve, Garfield and Cowbell jumped out to set the pace. Followed by Zoolander and Chewy with Water Pik and the Q not far behind.. Hats off to Water Pik for pacing with the all to familiar lagging YHC, as we chattered along catching up on conversations we hadn’t shared in some time..
