  • I Think We Needed Our Heads Examined – from Fast Tax

Six of F3 Nola’s finest displayed their true grit and stalwart character when they braved the subarctic temperatures and gale force winds to participate in another round of Battle Frisburpee at the Uptowner on Friday. Okay, maybe not gale-force winds and sub-arctic temperatures but it was 36F with light rain and a wind chill of 28.

After a hasty disclaimer, we moseyed to the driest part of the field for warmups, each of us quietly thinking to ourselves that we should have our head examined…

    Warmups:
Grass Grabbers, SSH, Bat Wings with MNC. YHC ditched the Swan Dives b/c that would involve getting wetter than we needed to.

Unwilling to jump right into the highly anticipated main event but trying to keep us warm, YHC kicked things off with Catch Me If You Can:
PAX partner up. Partner 1 performs 10 Merkins and then sprints to catch the Partner 2, who has been running backwards. Partner 2 now does Merkins while partner 1 runs backwards. The cycle continued until we finished a lap with YHC switching from Merkins to Crab Merkins.

Wanting to give the PAX some practice throwing the frisbee in the gale force winds, YHC selected Go Fetch as the next thang:
One pax throws a frisbee. All PAX sprint in that direction until frisbee lands. When it lands, all PAX stop and then lunge-walk until they get to the frisbee. First PAXD there gets to throw the Frisbee, rinse and repeat except change out lunge-walk with bear crawl, then back to lunge walk b/c it is too frickin wet and cold for bear crawls.

With 25 minutes to go, it was time for BATTLE FRISBURPEE.
Team 1: Fast Tax, Hand Grenada, Charmin
    Team 2: Bogie, Mahatma, Disclaimer

After a recitation of the rules for those PAX who were new to the game, we commenced. The battle was intense, in part because there was a lot more running with only 3 people per team and a lot more burpees were required due to the wind catching the Frisbee and PAXs’ hands being too frozen to function very well.

The game was tied with 3 minutes to go as the rain started to come down again. Marshaling their reserves, Team 1 (primarily Charmin & Hand Grenada b/c YHC was done in by that point) adroitly and tactically moved the Frisbee down the field to score the final point, winning the game 2-1.

With game over we headed to COT for name-o-rama, announcements, intentions, and prayer.
    Followed by Coffeteria at PJs.
    Thanks for the fellowship! SYITG

As we started our mosey to the car, Fast Tax showed up and brought the wood and apologized for Benadryl and snoozing through alarms.

Thanks for the honor to lead

  • Young Bloods @ the Renny – from Catfish

Nice cool morning at the Renny with 9 PAX. Started in front of the museum facing the bacin with Abe Vigodas, Grass Grabbers, SSH, and 8-counts.

Moved to fountain for some right leg power-ups, dips, left leg power-ups, and derkins. Got on faces for Peter Parkers and J-Los.

Grabbed a round of 11s with jump squats and bonnie blairs (2 is 1), going from the fountain and bunny hopping up the museum steps. Then grabbed some nickels and dimes – one-minute rounds of 5 burpees, 10 hand-release merkins, SSH to finish the minute).

Moseyed to the field for burpee suicides. Did four tree lengths with 5 burpees at the starting line, then concluded with 10 burpees.

Back of museum for 5 rounds of Sunday Mornings (5 overhead claps in people’s chair, 10 donkey kicks, one balls-to-wall press).

CoT, coffeeteria @ PJs. Well done PAX, and welcome to our FNGs HokieMon and King Prawn.

  • I’m not modifying, you’re modifying

My boy Screw Top was still nursing an injury following his marathon so for what felt like the 20th time I chose to step in for him as Q. I had not been a Q for a few weeks and wasn’t scheduled to Q for several more (not sure how I let that happen) so I took the opportunity to lead. 11 PAX joined myself on what has to be the greatest collection blacktops in the city at UNO. Disclaimer was given and off we went.

    Warm up:

Took a lap around said parking lot and circled up.

    • SSH x 20 IC
    • Windmills x 10 IC
    • Concrete grabbers x 15 IC
    • Self love x 15 IC
    • Arm circles Fwd/rev x 10 each IC
    • Mountain climbers x 15 IC

    Thang 1:

Moseyed over to the sidewalk along Elysian Fields. PAX gathered for what felt like the traditional Indian Run. However I found something on the exicon to change it up and we did a Prisoner Indian Run down to the traffic circle at Elysian Fields and Lakeshore Dr.

    Thang 2:

Here is where the modification begins. I wanted to do 11s. But in honor of Michael Thomas being a bad man and breaking the single season catch record we did 13s. The modification didn’t stop there. I was inspired by Tua’s VQ a few weeks ago and stole from his playbook. So for the Double Modified 11s (AKA 13s) the PAX would run in the bike lane of the traffic circle. Once they ran half the circle they would stop and perform 12 Carolina dry docks and 1 squat jump. Run the other half the circle and do 11 CDD and 2 squat jumps, etc. until the last round was complete with 1 CDD and 12 squat jumps. The Q was stunned to find that much traffic at 5:40 AM 2 days prior to Christmas but thankfully we were able to avoid any incidents.

    Thang 3:

Mosey over to the nearest parking. With Christmas coming up I was inspired when I found Santa’s Ladder on the exicon. PAX would start at one end of the parking lot and run to a randomly selected spot (that huge light post looks good) where we would perform 10 burpees, run back to start and perform 9 burpees, and so on until we got to round 5. Rounds 5-1 would be merkins. Plank and wait for the 6. As everyone was catching their breath I explained to the PAX that completing the ladder consisted of also performing the runs with rounds 10-6 being merkins and 5-1 being burpees. However due to time constraints I opted to modify and perform only 6 rounds.

Mosey back to the flag in time for some Mary. Flutter kicks, Freddy Mercury’s and some other exercise that I can’t remember x 20 each IC. Count off, name-o-rama, announcements, intentions, and sweaty ball of man. As always it was a great time leading the men of F3. Hopefully trying the new location at the traffic circle didn’t scare anyone but there was WAY more traffic than I anticipated so I will store that in memory for future beatdowns.

  • Reindeer Games

You know Charmin and Hokie and Tool and Sogo
Heisenberg and Mop and Rev Sox and Belloq
    But do you recall
The most famous reindeer of all?

    Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer
    Had a very shiny nose
And if you ever saw it
You would even say it glows

    All of the other reindeer
Used to laugh and call him names
    They never let poor Rudolph
    Join in any reindeer games

    Then one foggy Christmas Eve
    Santa came to say
“F3, with your fitness so fine
Won’t you do some burpees tonight?”

Then how the reindeer loved him
As they shouted out with glee
    “Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer
    You’ll go down in history”

    The Warm Up

    SSH – 25

    Imperial Walkers – 20

    Peter Parkers – 20

    Grass Grabbers – 20

    Hillbillies – 20

    Reindeer Games

The Pax split up into two teams of 4:

Mop, YHC, Tool, and Heisenberg vs. Charmin, Sogo, Hokie, and Belloq

The teams will play the reindeer games while one pax member plays the role of Rudolf. He misses out on the reindeer games while doing burpees. Finish 30 burpees and tag another pax member to take your place as Rudolph.

    Game One

F3 dodgeball – standard dodgeball but once you are out, you hold plank or do merkins until a teammate catches the ball and you can reenter the game. The team with the most players out at the end of 9 minutes loses. Each team had one player out so dodgeball was a tie.

    Game Two

Rarajipari – get your team’s baseball to the dog park statue only using your feet. Once you get to the dog park, travel back to the top of the largest hill. You can’t kick the ball twice in a row. Team Belloq wins game 2 by climbing the hill first.

    Game Three

Ultimate Frisbee – standard Frisbee rules but do 3 merkins for every turnover and 5 merkins when you are scored on. Team Belloq wins game 3 at a score of 2-0.

    Game Four

Merry Christmas Ya Filthy Animals Race – Relay race: bear crawl round one, crab walk round two, duck walk round three. Race down to the cone like an animal and back. First team to finish wins. Team Mop wins game 4.

    Mary

You can’t skip Mary on Christmas Morning

    American Hammers – 20

    Hello Dolly – 20

    Flutter Kicks – 20

    Penguins – 20

    Circle of Trust

Count off, Name-O-Rama, and announcements. Remember to pray for all those who are alone or experiencing loss this Christmas season. Find a way to bring family and community to someone who is on the outside. Pray that we will continue to push one another to improve in 2020.
