  • 24032 Venti -RCR – from Sea Man

In celebration of RCR, a massive wave of PAX sojourned into the gloom towards the river! Even Whoppers Delicate Machine was eager for a Double Esspresso! The Venti now consists of 3 Routes:

Route 1 – The Esspresso – AKA IR Layup a walk down St Charles to Adams and to Starbucks
Route 2 – Venti – down uptown side of the park, across Magazine, first right to the levy, sprint up the levy post Army Corps, to Carrolton to Starbucks.
Route 3 – Grande Venti – down the uptown side of the park and continue round past the Golf Course. Cross Magazin towards the Grotto and Avenger Field then follow the levy to the standard Venti.

We all rallied at Starbucks, for Dong Phong where exceeded the dBs of Baristas ears. We filed down Magazine like a bunch of middle aged Frat Dudes + O’Dulles + Tree Frong + Bubbles. TUPD was very confused as they past us.

A lot of guys have been bringing their 2.0s on these runs and it has been fun. Routes 2 & 1 are done a clydesdales talking pace.

Talking is the mission of the venti! Back in March a guy Justin Erenworth took his life and left a wife and 2 young kids with a lot of questions. Recentlly Peppa has had 2 HIMs from his Navy days take their life, and just last week Wilson & I, our friend lost their 16 yr old to suicide. So this give us a time to talk and be there for one another. Not everyone can stick around for coffee or “COFFEE” w/ Almonaster!

  • Let’s go down and up the ladder. It’s Mardi Gras time!

Yes, Mardi Gras time is upon us.  After a long first weekend where YHC walked in TWO parades, YHC was wondering how he could plan a challenging beatdown that wouldn’t use much of his voice.  Hmmmm…let’s see.  Welcome and Disclaimer let’s mosey to in front of bandstand for:

    Warm Up

    • Imperial Walkers IC X20
    • Toy Soldiers (in place) IC X20
    • Windmills IC X15
    • Self-Love IC X15

Mosey to lagoon side of bandstand for:

Cooper!  A Burpee/Squat/Merkin ladder beginning at 10 count of each exercise descending down 1 rep with a long lap from bandstand to track through parking lot and back to bandstand between each round.  For those that make it all the way down the ladder, go back up starting with 1 rep, 2 reps, etc.    As an added bonus YHC has brought some music for your listening pleasure!  Sorry for “You’re the Best” Angie’s List, you Karate Kid hater.  I think I made up for it with a little Tenacious D.

Time is up.  Mosey to Flag for Mission Impossible to Close Out

Nice job PAX!  Especially those PAX who ran over 4 miles.  Looking at you Mariah and Bieber, who may have run a half-marathon.

Count-off, name-o-rama, announcements, intentions and prayer.

    Thanks for letting me lead!

  • 12 Days of Christmas – Sunnyside

More 2.0s than Dads gathered at UrbanSouth Brewery for the annual Christmas beatdown and fest. Quick disclaimer and we were off up Market St. Some ambitious 2.0s had to be full-stopped before racing across Religious St. in the dark. A few motorists were surprised by the pack the of seemingly feral children that were leading a group of wheezing middle aged men, winding through the dark streets between the warehouses.

We arrived at Annunciation Square and circled up. Quick 20 SSH in cadence to warm us up. Then the began the days, using the 2.0s as coupons where possible. YHC lucked out with a 2.0 under 25lbs. For PAX without a 2.0, they borrowed from others with several to spare. Modifications were offered if 2.0s were uncooperative.

    1. Partridge in a Pear Tree – squat thrust 2.0 up to the shoulder; or a burpee
    2. V-Ups
    3. Lords/ladies leaping (2.0s hop over dads in plank)  or Russian Twists
    4. Flutter Kicks
    5. Dizzy Bears
    6. Dying roaches
    7. Plank Jacks
    8. Freddy Mercurys
    9. Measly Merkins
    10. Baby crunches
    11. Crabs a crawling
    12. Burpees or a (12) Partridge in a Pear Tree.

The PAX then went to COT and the naming(!) Lots of creativity and individual expression from the 2.0s. Then a mosey back to Urban South to a feast, a bounce house, sweaty & dirty children, and excellent fellowship. Much good food, but shout out to #bones for the smoked boudin he served up.

  • Do I look like the kind of guy that can read a spreadsheet?

In my old age I find my bedtime has moved back dramatically. That being said I was well asleep when Yankee texted me at 9:03 alerting me to my Q at The Skinny in the morning. I awoke around 10 and glanced at the phone and rolled back to sleep while visions of beatdowns danced in my head.

Mosey to some grass in the park for warmups.

    • SSH X30
    • AC’s X10 forward and reverse
    • GG’s X20
    • PP X20
    • PP X20
    • MC X20

Line up and head to Row Bear station Indian style.

    • 4 Groups break up for burpees, plank jacks, squats and rows.
    • Burpees sets the pace. Rinse and repeat.

Line back up and head to grass up by the ole ginkgo tree. Circle up for some ring of fire merks. Do ten and person to your left starts at your 5, Rinse and repeat. Lots of whining here. Lots of kneeling.

Back to track. At first running man 5 burpees than run hard past 1 to next running man. 5 burpees and repeat till you reach the fountain.

Once at the fountian we roll right into incline merks, no break or counting to 20 until 6 rolls in. Once six arrived we started right leg step ups fast. then dips fast. then left leg step ups fast. Then dips fast. Tried to keep pace up to keep heart rates up.

Once done back to track quick for 2 line Indian run to the flag. Apparantly everyone was not down for some over the top cardio this morning. We survived a muntiny mid way back and modified with a “just get back to the flag” run. I circled back for 6 twice and racked up some pretty nice extra mileage doing so.

We all made it back roughly on time. Fitbit indicated 2.4 miles for the workout.

Count off, Name O Rama, Announcements, Intentions and SBOM.

Remember the Christmas party is Monday at Urban South. Potluck. We need food! HNJ Men’s Club is selling trees starting Friday. If you visit our website you can pre order. Ther was some other stuff mentioned, read the email.

    Thanks for letting me lead.
