  • Not so Lazy Dora – from Akbar

    8 Strong today, welcoming Grover for a beatdown before he left back to Arkansas. Wicket’s first visit to the Gipper as well. The 20 year old and 7 year old brought the average age down to 49.5. The plan changed when Grover forgot his running shoes, wearing Janowski’s instead. YHC was pleased to oblige in changing the Dora to a Lazy Dora in his honor.

    A late afternoon Slack shout out from Bushwhacker was the last thing YHC saw before the eyelids closed. MARSH MARSH MARSH MARSH MARSH MARSH. Followed by a string of mumblechatter from Marsh Madness, Batman, and Meme’s of Homer and something about Shots. This brought a recent record of 6, a recent Milestone, for a block beatdown.

    Conditions 60ish and pleasant

    Warm Up – SSH, Arm Circles x 20 IC Self Love, Grass Grabbers, Toe Touches, and Windmills x10

    Thang – After a warm up run to Marigny, the Thang began. 100 reps each, 6 exercises, split into rounds of 20. After each round, mosey to the playground for 5 pull ups, and run down to Marigny and back

    OH Press, Goblet Squat, Curls for the Girls, Calf Raise, Chest Press or Merkin, LBC

    Mary – Head to the basketball court baseline, 10 Crunchy Frogs at each line to the other end, jog back. Repeat with Mountain Climbers, head to circle and Bird prayed us out.

  • Global warming with Al Gore – from Fletch

    7 strong in the gloom of this humid morning at the Gipper.
    Warmup: toe touches, grass grabbers, merkins, arm circles, Peter Parker’s, imperial walkers, windmills and hillbillies.
    Thang: started with bear crawl to the street.
    Burpee Dans (1 burpee 4 lunges) to the corner. Shuffle, left foot forward then right foot forward to the next corner and mosey to the Taj Mahal. Circle around the flag and 1 round of BLIMPS: Burpee’s (5), Lunges (10),Imperial walkers (15),Merkins (20),Plank jacks(25) Squats(30). Global Warming, hold Al Gore position and slowly shuffle around flag and do 15 big boy sit-ups reverse direction and 10 merkins reverse again and 20 Bobby Hurleys. Mosey around the building and 1 more round of global warming and 10 Parker peters ic. Bear crawl to the road, shuffle, backpedal and mosey to the rock garden for curls, tricep extensions, grave diggers ic and mosey bak to the Gipper. Barely legal prayed us out.     YHC got excited when passing a Blue Toyota Tundra this morning, thinking it was JV. The glimmer of hope for his return was squashed, but happy to see the familiar running team of Hammer and Pik chatting it up.

    Mosey to the Lakefront stopping at intersections for Hand Release Merkins, Dips, Squats with rep counts of 21-15-9-15-21

    Rips – 50 calf raises, 50 Rocky Balboas

    Mosey back to the Marsh the long way, stopping at each light pole for 2 reps, adding 2 at each light pole. Hand Release Merkins and jump squats

    Switcheroo over to Superman’s and Flutter Kicks, 2 at each light pole, adding 2 each time.
    Maxed out around 20 light poles and head for Mary

  • Return of the Deck – from Russo

    Mid 90s Mark Morrison said it best:

    But instead of a Return of the Mack, it was Return of the Deck at the Splashpad, where for the first time in 2023, the Pad earned its name, as a 70 degree temp and humid and foggy conditions meant sweating it out early.

    Pax of 3 this morning for the old standby: the deck of death, where the mumble revolved around Mardi Gras (I for one am not ready for the season to end).

    YHC arrived early today in the gloom, just in time to see Pik and Hammer running down Lamarque. As we circled up, Pik mentioned that I had the Q today – at the 007. Figuring it was a mistake, since YHC was in Mandeville instead of Slidell, he let me lead. Today we hit the playground, ran to the Lakefront to visit the wall for some tempo work, short mosey to Rips for stairwork and holds.

    45 degrees to start this morning, more breezy than normal, but generally pleasant weather at the Pad. There was no lifeguard on duty today, but we managed a good adult swim where it was motioned, seconded, and approved officially that (1) Top Gun Maverick is a great movie, (2) Australian people are unique, and (3) it’s ok to cuss if you’re in the military.

    Somehow I missed that today is 2-3-23, and missing an opportunity to craft a beatdown using math based around 2 and 3 will haunt me for at least 2 or 3 minutes.
