  • No arms… kinda

From the Tough Mudder almost a month ago, YHC banged up his right arm good and sore.  Although it’s no longer lovely shades of green, brown and yellow, it’s still nowhere near 100%.  So today YHC attempted an armless BeatDown.  He was successful…mostly.

After a disclaimed, the PAX was off to a new field past the Mardi Gras fountain–with Rudy’s mumblechatter in high pitch.

    • SSHs 30xIC
    • Hill Billies 30xIC
    • Low Slow Squats 20xIC
    • Squatting Pulses 20xIC

Mosey to the waterfront from box jump reverse-suicides: mosey to the first planter for 10 box jumps, mosey back and then to the second for 9 box jumps, etc., to the tenth planter for 1 box jump.  A nice gasser to finish up the warm up.  Then mosey to the tenth planter for some static pain:

    • Dips 20xIC (here’s where the kinda came in; these don’t hurt YHC’s arm, so there it was)
    • Right Leg Power Ups 20xIC
    • Irkins (same kind of kinda)
    • Left Leg Power Ups 20xIC
    • Dips 20xIC (last of the kinda)

Then circle up for a Cowbell special: the Hurricane Ho Down.  Seven flutter kicks in a V position with arms in the arm, then seven more with arms extended on the ground, then seven more while leaning on elbows, and then more with a flat back.  Rinse and repeat with six of each, then five, four, three, two and finally one of each.

Mosey on over to the levee for some Elevens.  At the toe of the levee, ten Big Boy Sit Ups, then mosey up the levee for one squat, then mosey down for nine Big Boy Sit Ups, then up for two squats, etc., until one Big Boy Sit Up at the bottom and ten squats at the top.

No time left for Mary.  So everyone’s favorite close out: 12 burpees.

Then Countoff, Name-O-Rama, Intentions and a COT.  Thanks  for letting me Q twice this week.  Birthdays are great.  Everyone should have one at least once a year.  Jingle Vader

  • R.E.D Friday – The Collin Hero WOD

    Conditions:  Overcast and 61.

Perfect morning to get some work in.  I showed up about 12 minutes early to find Hand Grenada had beaten me to the AO.  He helped me set up the “equipment” for today’s Hero WOD.  (Thanks to Triple Shift for the buckets of water he stashed by the pumps and thanks to Jefferson Parish for not removing said buckets).

In all, 8 men posted this morning to pay tribute to our service men and women deployed around the world.  We were honored to have two Veterans with us – Mahatama and Kimchi.  Thank you for your service.

    Warm-up

    SSH x 31; Peter Parker x 31; Windmills x 15; Forward Arm Circles x 15; Morocan Night Club (sans squat) x 15; Backward Arm Circles x 15

The Thang – Collin Hero WOD

The goal is 6 rounds in 35 minutes.  Push yourself to do more than that.

    • 400 meter Rock Carry – Use a rock between 20 and 30 pounds
    • 12 Push Press – Use a rock between 40 and 60 pounds
    • 12 Box Jumps – Can be modified to step ups
    • 12 Sumo Deadlift Hi-Pulls – Use Bucket full of water

Impressive performances all around.  Mahatma, the unofficial king of R.E.D Friday workouts, got in 8 rounds.  Kimchi and YHC got in 7, All others got in 6 more or less.

    • T-claps to Abacus for wearing Red to R.E.D. Friday.  The man gets it.
    • T-claps to HVAC for not only getting in some running before the workout, but timing his pre-thang run so that it ended exactly at 0530
    • T-claps to Hand Grenada for posting consistently since Walley EH’d him (and for not parking illegally).
    • T-claps to Kimchi for coming out on his day off – he’s worked 14 straight 12 hour days or 12 straight 14 hour days…I’m not sure, but either way it’s hard.
    • T-claps to Abacus, Two Yutes, and Rev Sox.  Their consistency and growth is impressive.
    • And T-claps to Mahatma for being a beast and pushing us all.  When I grow up I want to be like him.

  • A Dirty Dozen at Okwata

The Pax enjoyed another cool, albeit windy, morning at the Okwata AO.  Before long, the gloom will be filled with thick and humid air, so 12 Pax posted to take advantage of it.  YHC pulled up to the AO and was surprised to see our F3 Flag, which could only mean one thing:  Reluctant Yankee was in attendance.  Tagging along with our regional Nantan was none other than OBT, credited as co-founder of F3, which makes him awesome.  Bogey had indicated he may show up this morning, but YHC told him he had to.  That worked?  Cool!

Several other Pax slowly assembled as the clock approached 0530.  At 0530, YHC took a headcount and found we had an odd number, which was somewhat disappointing, but all would be good.  Brief Disclaimer, and we were off….

Mosey around the mardi gras fountain, carioca left, then right, then continue our mosey to the grassy area in front of the fountain.

    Warmup
Just as we started the warmup, the 12th Pax arrived, making us a dirty dozen! YHC could hardly contain the excitement!
    SSH IC x 31
Imperial Sq Walkers IC x 10
    Hillbilly’s IC x 15
    Mountain Climbers IC x 10
    Peter Parker IC x 10

With our dirty dozen, it was time to mosey to the levee. YHC was so excited, he forgot about double shots at the Barre with Jack Webb…but that’s ok, the Pax made up for that with the following:

Burp Back Mountain (There was much rejoicing)
    Partner Up
Pax 1 does Burpees at the base of the levee
Pax 2 does quadraphilia up the levee and run back down (always facing Okwata) 3 times, then swap with Pax 1
Continue until 100 burpees cumulative are completed. Once complete, both Pax continue with quadraphilia until all Pax complete the burpees

Mosey to the House of Pain (HOP) for stations:
    Partner up
    Station 1 – Merkins AMRAP
    Station 2 – Squats AMRAP
Station 3 – Step Ups AMRAP
    Station 4 – Dips AMRAP
Station 5 – Pull ups AMRAP
Station 6 – Bear Crawl up the levee, 5 burpees, run back down (timer)

The Pax was killing it, leaving plenty more time for more pain! Mosey to corner of Lakeshore and Canal for, you guessed it, 4 Corners!
Corner 1 – 10 Burpees OYO – Why? Why not!
Run up and over levee to Amethyst St and Canal
    Corner 2 – Monkey Humpers IC x 20
    Run across Canal
Corner 3 – Mekins IC x 30 (up down count)
Run back across the levee to Lakeshore
    Corner 4 – Squats IC x 20 (4 count, so that’s like 40)
Run back to corner 1 for….wait for it…..Catalina Wine Mixers IC x 10 (and there was much rejoicing)

Mosey back to the flag for..

    Mary
    Flutter Kicks IC x 20
Tin Snips IC x 20 (OBT pointed out that these were egg beaters, but YHC likes to still use Tin Snips as a credit to HVAC)
    LBC’s IC x 30
    Penguins IC x 20

That took us to 0615, which means…

    COT
Countoff, Name-o-rama, announcements, intentions, and closed with a prayer.

    NMM
YHC indicated OBT was awesome as a co-founder of F3 because F3 is a gift that YHC wishes more men could experience. I know I’m preaching to the choir, but continue to EH like Triple Shift. T-Claps to Triple Shift for getting F3 NOLA aired by Ed Daniels on WGNO last night!  The Monkey Humpers at Corner 2 brought up some conversation about the camera crew again and the disappointment of not being captured on film…..

Thanks for posting with me today!  Until next time…

  • Fair Weather Fans Need Not Apply

Four manly men posted in the rain at The Foundy this am whilst many a fair weather fans stay nestled in their beds.  Rumor had it one of our founding fathers from NC was in town and might post but apparently he didn’t get the memo about “rain or shine.”  Anywho, there we were, standing in a drizzle, waiting for a possible deluge, hoping for no lightening, and as 5:30 approached, cooler heads prevailed and we made the quick drive to the large pavilion near the festival grounds as to focus on a safe beatdown out of the elements.  Here’s what went down:

    • IW x30
    • AC x10F, x10R, x10Chinook
    • WM x10
    • Peter Parker x20
    • LS Squat x20
    • Goofball x20

Next up, a round of Crowd Pleasers (Merkins followed by Groiners) with some moseying thrown in for good measure.  Line up on one end of the pavilion, run to first column, drop for a 1:1 Crowd Pleaser, mosey back, run to second column for 2:2, mosey back…..up to 5:5 then work back down to 1:1.  Going by the lack of mumblechatter this was in fact a crowd pleaser.

Still raining pretty good at this point so we opted to stay under cover and lined up on the end of the pavilion again for some on-the-fly festivities:

    • Lunge Walk to far side (28yds), mosey back
    • Inchworm to far side, mosey back
    • Lunge Walk to far side, mosey back
    • Forward Crab Walk to far side, Backward Crab Walk back
    • Monkey Shuffle (sideways) to the right, come back to the left…T-claps to Triple Shift for the suggestion of this beloved exercise

Still plenty time left so on to some ISI challenge catch up for those of us that have been slacking.

    • Freddie Mercury, max reps (4 count) in 90 seconds
    • Step Up R x20, Dips x20, Step Up L x20
    • Freddie Mercury, max reps (4 count) in 60  seconds
    • Step Up R x20, Dips x20, Step Up L x20
    • Freddie Mercury, max reps (4 count) in 30 seconds
    • Step Up R x20, Dips x20, Step Up L x20

Wait, there’s more!  One minute of hip flexor stretching and two minutes of a plankorama to seal the deal.

A good morning was had by all.

  • CelebrHATE on the small screen with Cowbell

With Ed Daniels being drawn into the gloom by Triple Shift on this 610 Stomp sort of day, YHC saw the opportunity to make Cowbell famous, sending him off into his glorious thirties with a beatdown dedicated to celebrHATE this once in a lifetime occasion.  Surely this would lead to monuments being erected, with the possibility of memorials following his departure from this world.

Spoiler alert:  Cowbell fartsacked.  Oh well, YHC tried……

Back to the Ed Daniels bit.  YHC arrived at 0515 to find Triple Shift promoting the F3 organization to the sports reporter and his cameraman.  T-Claps to Triple Shift for spreading the word.  This will certainly help to maintain his crown as king of the EH.  Not that anyone was getting close to knocking him off that hill…….

YHC made a quick mosey to the track to drop off some cones, more to come on that later.  Upon arriving back at the shovel flag that YHC planted, two more were planted next to it.  YHC almost gave the F3 flag a hug, as it hasn’t been seen in weeks.  As long as it has been cared for and used effectively, all is well.

F3 Nation had a plethora of good names ready to throw at Ed Daniels, but apparently he did not show up for the beat down.  At least 19 men showed up in force to promote the power and awesomeness of F3.  With the cameraman hanging out in the area, the clock hit 0530, and so it begins:

Disclaimer, and probably one too short judging by the scolding looks of Rudy.  But hey, “Not a professional trainer, so modify as needed” was said…..

Tuesday is normally a run day, hence the 610 Stomp name.  Due to circumstances, we did a sudden change and did a quick mosey to the track.

Circle up on the matting inside the track.  YHC still intended to celebrHATE Cowbell’s coming of age, but had to get something out the way first.

    Warmup

    SSH IC x 31

With that out of the way, it was time to celebrHATE!

    COP

    Hillbilly’s IC x 20
Alternating Shoulder Taps IC x 20
    Tempo Merkins IC x 10
    Escalator

The Escalator is 5 exercises, composed of:
    10 Burpees OYO
20 Merkins IC (Up Down cadence)
30 Smurf Jacks (a tribute to Cowbell)
40 Monkey Humpers IC – did YHC mention the cameraman was a female? Not absolutely certain, but this may have been when the film crew exited.
    50 Squats IC

Indian Run twice around the track, or 1/2 mile.

One final tribute to Cowbell – Smurf Jacks IC x 30

Mosey to the inside grassy area of the track where the cones were set up for some suicides. Starting at first row of cones, sprint to second set, sprint back and do 5 merkins. Continue this to each set of cones, set up like a basketball court, a tribute to the end of March Madness. Not only did the track crew forget to turn the lights on, but YHC may have left out one row of cones. The start line should have been one set with 4 sets beyond, which caused some major confusion. So much confusion that YHC decided to do it again with burpees.

Mosey to the first corner of the track for 4 Corners:

Corner #1 – Catalina Wine Mixers IC x 10 (there was much rejoicing) – Sprint to corner #2
Corner #2 – Bobby Hurleys x 10 OYO (tribute to end of March Madness) – Sprint to corner #3
Corner #3 – Merkins IC x 10 (there’s the 4 count the Pax was longing for) – Sprint to Corner #4
Corner #4 – Iron Mikes IC x 10 (lunge jumps)

Mosey back to the matted area for Ring of Fire #1
All Pax hold the plank position. The first Pax does 5 merkins, then resumes plank. The ring of fire goes around to all the Pax.
    Ring of Fire #2
Same as before, just replace with 5 Burpees. That’s a lot of planking!

    Mary

    Flutter Kicks IC x 30
    Hello Dolly IC x 25
    American Hammer IC x 20

Times up, mosey back to the flag(s)

    COT

    Count off and Name-O-Rama
We had one FNG, and no, it was not a reporter.  Welcome Phoenix!  Some claimed the name was too good, but they’re just jealous.  They all wanted Fracsac too, but it was specially reserved for YHC!

Announcements, intentions, and closed with a prayer.

Thanks for posting with me today and for putting up with my inability to design a proper court.

Remember: F3 is an organization of leaders, not an organization with leaders. Each Pax is expected to be a leader in other groups outside F3, as well as within F3. To lead in F3 is easy, just sign up and take the Q here

    NMM

If you didn’t notice, Bogey was especially happy this morning. He was the winner of the bracket pool, and will be exempt from any burpees this Saturday post Mothership. Here’s the Burpee count:
    Reluctant Yankee: 8
    YHC: 24
    El Guapo: 30
    Hokey Pokey: 32
    Seaman: 33
    Rudy: 35
    DaParish: 43
    Milkman: 56

Come out Saturday and see the Burpee debt paid in full!

  • Kotter-Q

After spending two weeks out of the country…and not exercising…there’s no better way to get back into it than to Q at the Foundry.  DISCLAIMER, let’s mosey to the field across the pond from the new Children’s Museum:

    -SSH x 30 IC

    -IW x 30 IC

    -Mt Climbers x 30 IC

-Arm Circles x 30 IC (15 ea dir)

    -J-Lo’s (fka Pickle Pounders) x 20 IC

Mosey to the Foundry (outdoor gym behind Christian Brothers School) for five stations:

    -Pull-ups

    -LSS (Low Slow Squats)

    -Dips

    -Box Jumps/Step-ups

    -10 Burpees as the Timer

Rinse and Repeat…mosey across the field for 20 Merkins…and back to the Foundry for 2 more circuits for a total of four rounds.  Mosey back to the SF just in time for some Mary:

    -LBC x 30 IC

    -Penguins x 20 IC

    -Hello Dolly’s x 20 IC

    -Flutter kicks x 20 IC

-Wife Pleasers (not Wife Beaters) x 20 IC

Countoff, namerama, announcements, shoutouts, prayer.  It was an honor to lead this crew to the Foundry and back.

  • 11s or 12s. I can’t remember

Happy Monday – 7 PAX started the week off right with an early Monday post at Rock City. Tool was apparently still recovering from a weekend of Hogging for a Great Cause, so had handed the Q to YHC.  5:30 on the dot, time to get the show on the road. Disclaimer and off down the gloomy track towards the rocks.

Warm Up: The usual, at least kind-a

    • SSH x25
    • BAM.  Abacus rolls in hot.  Take that, Tool.  That’s a #HIM, showing up on Monday after HfC.
    • Slow Windmills x10
    • IW x24 (YHC was confused on count.  An omen of what was yet to come, I suppose)

Go grab a rock.  Any rock.  Triple Shift – you’ve been challenged.  I don’t know where Mahatma found that thing.  But it was RIDICULOUS.

Bring your friend to the tree line.  Peter Parker x25 (didn’t think I’d forget plank stuff, did you?)

11s: You know what YHC thinks of with the number 11?  Yup, Notre Dame National Championships (and yes, I am painfully aware that none are within the last 30 years.  But there’s always next year.)  So lets do some 11s.

    • Merkins on the far side
    • Curls on the near side
    • “Let’s get it, Baby” says Marlin.  “Go” says YHC.

OK, YHC forgot how to add up to 11.  Something that shouldn’t be that hard, but seemed perplexing to me.  But fortunately, the heckling of Walleye and Rev Sox straightened out the PAX and got us started correctly.

OK, YHC also forgot to tell people to BRING THE ROCK WITH YOU.  Several PAX grumbled as they returned to the starting line.  But finally, we were off – Back and forth.

Plank for the 6, with some Parker Peter IC.

11s: You know what else YHC saw with the number 11 yesterday?  ND Women’s Lacrosse upset #1 Syracuse 11-10.  So lets do another round of 11s.

    • Squat Jumps on the far side
    • Lunges on the near side
    • Rocks in the middle.  11 shoulder presses each time you run past your friend.
    • Halfway through, a Q-dible: change to 11 rows each time you run past your friend.

Plank for the 6, with some MC IC.

Mary: Circle up for a few mins of Mary

    • LBC x25
    • Flutter Kick x25
    • Penguin x25

Return the rocks and mosey back to the flag.

At the flag, when given the choice – Bogey selected that we close with 11 burpees.  So 11 burpees it is.

Finish with Count-off, Name-o-Rama.  Quality group of gentlemen I’m proud to start the week off right with. Props to Hand-Grenada who has jumped into Pontiff F3 with both feet, quickly becoming a regular at Rock City and The Uptowner.

Finish with our intentions (especially those who are sick and undergoing surgery), and a prayer for the graces of God to be with us today.

  • Minute Merkins are Harder Than I Thought

A Pax of 6 arrived at the Uptowner for a morning of exercise without running. The usual disclaimer and off we go. The plan for today was Tabata with 60 seconds of exercise, and 10 seconds of rest. As it turns out, 60 seconds of exercise is harder than I thought.

    Warm-up COP:
    SSH x 20 IC
    Imperial Walkers x 20 IC
    Peter Parkers x 20 IC
Low Slow Squats x 20 IC
    Windmills x 10 IC
Arm Circles 20 Forward, 20 Backward
    Mountain Climbers x 20 IC

We mosey 20 feet for the first Tabata:
Merkins for 60 seconds, focus on form
WWII Sit Ups for 60 seconds
    Planks for 60 seconds
    Squats for 60 seconds
    3 rounds total

Grab a rock, a big rock
Chest press for 60 seconds. At this point, I conceded that 60 seconds is a long time. So we went back to In Cadence.
    Curls x 10 IC
    Rows x 10 IC
    Repeat for 3 rounds.

    Circle up for some Mary.
    LBC’s x 20 IC
    Flutter Kicks x 20 IC
    American Hammer x 20 IC
    Crunchy Frogs x 20 IC
    Dying Cockroach x 20 IC
    Box Cutters x 20 IC

We returned our rocks, and had just enough time for more exercise with a smaller rock.
Biceps curls into shoulder press x 20 IC.

Final circle for count-off, name-o-rama, announcements, intentions, and a prayer. Thank you for letting me lead.

    Walleye

  • Cooler (and possibly better) than Rudy

Q list had Rudy scheduled for this Monday and YHC for the next, but that date was looking iffy.  After working a trade over the weekend, it meant YHC would be leading Rock City sooner than later.  Knowing it would be hard to deliver a beatdown that tops Rudy’s iconic Fighting Irish themed workout of years past or the recent 40’s on the levee, YHC brainstormed up a few ways to appease the PAX that were expecting their favorite ND alum instead.  Here’s what we did:

Mosey to the usual area for a warm-up COP:

    • IW x25
    • Abe Vig x10
    • Arm Circles x10
    • Burpees x5
    • Burpees x5
    • Burpess x5
    • Burpees x10 #crowdpleaser

Grab a rock good for curling, hold it overhead, and meander over to the track/field for COP #2 to work on the guns:

    • Curls x15
    • Rows x15
    • LS Squat x20
    • Curls x12
    • Press x12

Partner up along the back of the end zone for 3 rounds of:

    • Partner 1 runs to opposite endzone, knocks out 5 Burpees, and runs back (Timer) while
    • Partner 2 cranks out x10 Curls, x20 LBC, x10 Curls, x20 LBC,…..

T-claps to Abacus for the burst of speed on the final run!  #beastmode

Next up would be yet another crowd pleasing circuit, hopefully way better than whatever Rudy had in store.  Here we circled up for (2) 3 minute rounds of “The Suck” which consisted of as many rounds as possible of SSH x6, Merkin x6, Squat Jumps x6, rinse and repeat for 3 minutes, calling out your count after each round.  Despite the one minute break between rounds, the grumbling never really subsided.  Once done there seemed to be a harmonious feeling of accomplishment.  T-claps to the PAX for pushing hard.

Grab your rock and start heading back to base, knocking out shoulder presses along the way.  Circle up for one last COP:

    • Flutter Kicks holding rock x20
    • Penguins x20
    • Wife Pleasers x20
    • Curls x15

Head back to the rock pile but first, SUDDEN CHANGE – Shoulder Press x10.

Mosey back to the flag with one minute left for some hip flexor stretching.

    COT to seal the deal.

Hopefully the PAX enjoyed this more than the Hamlet themed stuff Rudy probably would have subjected everyone to.

    Thanks for letting me lead,

    Tool

P.S. – I had to pick on Rudy since he heckled me for the untimely backblast

  • Spring is in the air

5 men gathered in the gloom to start their day off right with the commitment to improve. YHC has noticed that recent Q’s have been making F3 beatdowns more challenging, and YHC could only hope that he would be able to continue the trend.
The clock hit 0530, time to give a disclaimer, then mosey to the track for:

    Warmup

    SSH IC x 31
    Abe Vigodas IC x 10
Imperial Squat Walkers IC x 15

    Bataan Death March
Traditional Indian Run on the track, only thing added is the last Pax drops for 5 Burpees and catches up with the other Pax to take his position in the front, tagging the last Pax as he passes. Continue until all Pax had the pleasure of 5 burpees.
Continue one lap of regular Indian Run, just because we can.

COP – Johnny Cash (Ring of Fire) #1

Muster on the matted area inside the track and circle up.
Each Pax completes 5 merkins, then says next, sending the fire clockwise in the ring. All Pax hold plank position until YHC calls it, which was 5 revolutions.
    Back to the track for:

    4 Corners!

    Corner 1 – Bobby Hurley’s IC x 10. Run to next corner.
Corner 2 – Catalina Wine Mixer IC x 10. Run to next corner.
Corner 3 – Iron Mike’s aka jump lunges IC x 10. Run to next corner.
Corner 4 – merkins IC 4 count x 10. Run to matted area.

COP – Johnny Cash (Ring of Fire) #2

Muster once again on the matted area inside the track and circle up.
Pax does continuous monkey humpers, one Pax does 1 burpee then says next, sending the fire clockwise in the ring. Each Pax did 10 Burpees and a lot of monkey humpers!

    Mosey to the Foundry

    Five Stations:

    Station 1 – pull-ups AMRAP
    Station 2 – Dips AMRAP
Station 3 – Box Jumps AMRAP
Station 4 – jumping back and forth over the green snake AMRAP
Station 5 – run to track, 5 Burpees and run back – Timer
    Rinse and Repeat

The Pax completed 2 revolutions, and it was time to mosey back to the flag.

    COT
Count off and Name-O-Rama, intentions and closed with a prayer.
Thanks for posting with me today, and way to kill it in the gloom this morning!
