  • Cinco Stompo – #113

Twelve hours prior to post time for The Stomp, the Q list had an empty slot so YHC grabbed it as to avoid the “who’s on first?” routine in the gloom.  As our PAX grew to five, we were off in a mosey to get our usual Tuesday running fix.  Here’s what we did:

Run the bayou route, 15 min out and 15 min back.

Once back at the track, run as many laps as possible until 6:08 on the dot then meet in the infield for a COP.  In lieu of 6 Minutes of Mary, we opted for Cinco de Cardio which included 5-1minute intervals of cardio packed exercises with an 8 second transition period in between.  This was a timed tabata-like routine going all out with the following exercises: up downs, semi-circle mountain climbers, red bull low country crabs, plank jacks, and burpees.  Judging by the lack of mumble chatter this proved to be a doozy.

Mosey back to VSF where time expired.  COT to seal the deal.

Great way to start a Tuesday.

  • The Way of the Dragon

It was supposed to be 40º and rainy but, as seems to often happen here on the Northshore, the Sky Q cleared the rain shortly before the pre (and pre-pre)-thang began.  YHC has noticed that with October’s dropping temperatures, PAX attendance at the mothership has also dwindled.  So it was reassuring to have 9 men show up in the unsure conditions of the morning ready to roll.  T-claps to Butt Splice, Carpool, Tanked Up and Turbo for getting in a little extra before the regularly schedule foreplay began.

    Warm Up:

Good Mornings, IW’s, Seal Jacks, Windmills, Mummy Kicks, Butt Kicks, High Knees, SSH’s, all 20x, IC.

    The Thang:

First off, a working mosey to the playground: PAX would begin at Girod with 15x Merkins, and add an exercise at each intersection until reaching the destination.  By the time we hit the east end of Lakeshore, we were at 15x Merkins, Squat Jumps, Shoulder Taps, Sit-Ups, and Plank Jacks.

On your six for some Bruce Lee: 4 sets of 20 reps of Putins, Leg Raises, LBC’s, Heel Touches, Crunchy Frogs, and 100’s.  T-claps to Bushwacker for the inspiration as well as the display of proper form!  Lee said, “A goal is not always meant to be reached, it often serves simply as something to aim at,” and we’ll continue to hold his 7 sets of 90 reps as something to aim for.  Maybe with the upcoming November ISI challenge we’ll inch slightly closer to that goal.

Next up, a playground partner routine: Partner 1 holds people chair against a column, while Partner 2 hits the 3 padded areas of the playground doing one of the following at each: 10x merkins, squats, burpees.  Oh, and of course, bunny hops across the splash pad area.

Indian Run back to the (imagined) flag for Mary: Fondas (10x Fonda, Quick Pulses, Heel-to-Knee, Knee-to-Knee, each legs), Hello Dolly’s, Rosalita’s.

Countdown, Nameorama, and Ace prayed us out.  Good to have you back BEAST!  And t-claps to Grundy for making it to the next round of his lengthy vetting process.  As always, thanks for the opportunity guys, great way to start the weekend.

  • A chill in the air…a little fire in the belly

A light crowd gathered one by one as the Q hoped one would be wearing a watch.  Alas, the last guy to arrive saved the day.

A brief disclaimer as we dashed away.

    Warm up

    SSH X 25, IW X 26(oops), Peter Parker X 20, Parker Peter X 20, Abe Vigoda X 10, Arm Circles X 10f/10b

Dora 2, 3, 4 – Merkins, Squats, LBC’s…Partner runs to fence with rock…leaving it behind for pickup by his buddy.

I’m liking this buddy system – 10 Burpees while partner People’s Chair w/rock for duration; flapjack; 3 rounds.

    Curls w/ rock X 15, Rows w/ rock X 15, Shoulder Press w/rock X 15….Curls w/ rock X 5, and so on…

To the flag(or where the flag would be), announcements, prayer, goodbyes, etc.

  • F3NORTHSHORE 10K Friday

Well it was about 55 degrees and the stars were out. It was a great morning for a jog with your brothers! We had four show up for the above average workout.
I would like to give T-claps to Dundee, Butt Splice, & Steve for the continued efforts to be above average.

As usual we do our COT in the beginning with a short prayer thanking our Lord for the ability to participate in the physical activities that F3 does on a regular basis.

Then off into the early morning night under the stars we go, to sunset point and back. Getting to know my brother Dundee a little better on our hour jog. While Steve and Butt Splice chit chat ahead of us. Remember something is better than nothing! If you walked a 10K it would be better than doing nothing!!

    Over an out,
    Captain Sparkles

  • Winter is Coming

YHC arrived at the AO a few minutes early. Was YHC the first to arrive today? Wait, who are the others huddled in their vehicles? Is it cold? No, not yet, but Winter is Coming. And who are the guys putting make up on? Since that is a question YHC doesn’t want to know the answer to, how about an easier one. Where are all the Shovel Flags? Speaking of Shovel Flags, where are all the Backblasts that document where the Shovel Flags were placed? Speaking of backblasts, time to get back to the task at hand…..

0630, so time for the disclaimer……and then…mosey to the great lawn for:

    Warmup
    SSH IC x 31
    Merkin Merkins IC x 10

Since some seemed to think this morning was cold, not JV or Rudy, as they wore their sleeveless F3 shirts, YHC needed to get the Pax heated up. Lucky for the Pax, YHC had just the thing:

Blackjack on the Great Lawn (count always equals 21)
1 merkin one side, run across and do 20 LBC’s on the other side, run back across.
2 merkin one side, run across and do 19 LBC’s on the other side, run back across.

20 merkins one side, run across and do 1 LBC on the other side, run back across.

Count off, Nam-o-rama, announcements, intentions, and closed out with BOM and a prayer.

Capped it all off with coffeteria and some great F2.

Winter may be coming, but F3 will keep you warm. Come on out and join your brothers. Better yet, sign up to Q and lead your brothers.

ISI Challenge Participants: Add 285 Merkins (295 if you count the Burpees) and 5.79 km to your total.

  • And Then There Were Three

One of YHC’s favorite songs: from Genesis’ 1978 album And Then There Were Three.  Sure enough, as 5:30 arrived on the shores of Lake Pontchartrain – 3 PAX gathered for a workout.

But today’s theme was not Genesis.  No, not today (but maybe a future workout).  Today YHC had something else in mind.  Technically, YHC had something else in the trunk.

The Thang: Mosey to the trunk of YHC’s car and each PAX grab a pair of bricks.  Get to know your bricks, they will be your friends for the next 45 minutes.

Mosey over towards, and around, the fountain.  Mix in some High Knee, Karaoke, and Butt Kicks before settling in on the grass.

    COP #1: Usual Rudy Warmup

    • SSH x25
    • IW x25
    • Plank-o-Rama: PP x25, FM (with Bricks) x20, PP x25, PJ x30

COP #2: 2 Pax exercise while 1 Pax runs a lap.  All exercises and laps done with bricks.  Repeat each exercise until each PAX has taken advantage of the opportunity to run laps twice.

    • 8 Count Body Builders.  (JV turned them into 10 count, adding a brick-press).
    • Lunges
    • Dying Cockroaches

YHC noticed quickly that just holding the bricks throughout was, in itself, a good grip workout.  YHC also noticed that each lap JV ran seemed to be different – different direction, different distance.  Some around the fountain, some around 1 quad, some around both quads, some around the fountain and one quad.  While lunging, YHC wondered what the inside of JV’s head must be like.

COP #3: October ISI Challenge continuing, so YHC needed more pullups.  With our brick friends, mosey to the top of the levee and over to the HOP.

    • Down the levee to the HOP.  Pull-ups x5
    • Up the levee.  Brick Murican x5
    • Still on the levee.  Squats x5
    • Repeat x5

Triple Shift crushed us.  Impressive watching the machine knock out the Pull Ups then sprint back up the levee.  Nice work!

COP #4: Mosey back to the VSF to finish with some Brick-Mary

    • Putin x20
    • Flutter x20
    • Rosalita x20
    • Crunch x20

COT: Countoff and Name-o-rama (both of which go pretty quickly when there are only 3).  Finish with a prayer, asking for God’s providence to help us use the gift of today wisely.  YHC asks for blessings on a long time friend of the family who passed away last night.  Close with St. Ignatius’ Prayer for Generosity.

JV, Triple Shift: Thank you for humoring me as I decided to try something different today with the bricks.  I think it went well enough that I’ll give it a shot again one day soon.

  • Visiting the Birdcage

Don’t worry about me. I joined to fight. If necessary, I shall die fighting. Those things which are precious are saved only by sacrifice.” – Band of Brothers, Stephen E. Ambrose

  • Did someone say Merkin? Or was it Pequod II?

5 F3 men embarked on a journey at the Gipper on this brisk Gloom.. Had the QIC known we would have the benefits of a nice brisk wind we could have journeyed to a water way to set sail with the Peqoud II. Appreciate the creative design of yet another there Moby.. Since non of the men showed with any slicker suits for the journey we will alternate and operate by land on this day..

    warmarama

25 IC SSH followed by 10 Merkins OYO

25 IC BKfollowed by 10 Merkins OYO

25 IC HB followed by 10 Merkins OYO

25 IC IW Take a guess

25 IC SJ Did you guess yet?

    Tha thang

Moseyed to the court house where we all may be standing before a judge explaining the scaring of the concrete someday. Series of sprints to the first set of benchs and down to bear crawls for the next R/R 4x.  Next we split into 2 teams while one man sprinted to the stairs and up and performed (2) 8 man body builders the men at the bottom did some form of core exercise. First series Freddie Merks, second LBC, third held blank, fourth Flutter kicks and finally Peter parkers. Upon completion we dropped for 15 Merkins IC. Moseyed to the parking garage for Pequod II introduction at which Einstein observed the nice stencil work done by Moby. Let’s take to the concrete ocean gentleman. We partnered up pulling a PAX member halfway across and then sprinted the other half to return and pull back to the  other side.. With observations of Einstein appearing to have done this a time or to. I could not help but visualize a brother out wind surfing 🏄 out in the Atlantic hitting waves and performing tricks.. As Steve and I pulled Turbo, I observed that the Full grown Strength of one Steve liked to sling shot Turbo upon stopping. This reminded me of a circus scene of a man being launched from a cannon… Moseyed back to the Trailhead to close with a R/R of the warmarama.

Those in the ISI total 150 on the Merkins..

Thanks for allowing me to lead!!
