  • Why six was afraid of seven

So several years ago, YHC’s 2.0 asked him why six was afraid of seven? Because seven eight (ate) nine.  I still laugh at the thought of this seven-year old’s joke, which I suspect to be Sacred Heart lore that perhaps originated from Hawg’s days there many moons ago.  Anyway, with nine PAX and YHC turning 56 (7×8) today, the joke seems apropos.  [Hint, Amnesty: QHC needs some more F2 events!]

After a terse disclaimer, the PAX was off to the rock pile for the first COP:

    • SSHs 56xIC (with much mumblechatter, and Rudy’s poor attempt to imitate YHC at counting)
    • Low Slow Squats 20xIC
    • Squat Pulses 20xIC (where are ya, Shorty?  They were for you!)
    • Peter Parkers 20xIC
    • Mount Climbers 20xIC
    • Parker Peters 20xIC
    • Merkins 20xIC

Time to get some rocks to mosey to the open field for COT2, namely, some Elevens.  At the row of trees on the far side of the field, bench presses from 1 to 10 and at the row of trees on the near side of the field, squats with rock from 10 to 1; moseying with rocks in between.  That’s 55 bench presses, and 55 squats.  In honor of YHC and Marlin, he commanded one additional of each for the magical 7×8=56.

After a mosey to the benches under the pavilion, time for COT3 (a modified, as in very modified, Sparticus: where were you this morning, Amnesty?  This one was for you!):

    • Right Leg Step Ups with rocks 20xIC
    • Dips 20xIC
    • Left Leg Step Ups with rocks 20xIC
    • Irkins 20xIC

Mosey to the wall for a one-minute sit with your rocks.  Then mosey back to the rock pill for a closing Circle of Mary after ten burpees:

    • Russian Twists with rocks 20xIC
    • Dying Cockroach 20xIC
    • Flutter kicks with rocks 20xIC
    • Penguins 20xIC
    • Hello Dolly with rocks 20xIC

Another ten burpees, then return rocks, mosey to the flag (TClaps to Rudy for bringing one) to close out with ten more burpees.

Name-O-Rama, Announcement and a closing COT with thanks for a great Birthday Q.  Jingle Vader

  • F3 Northshore 2nd Anniversary Convergence Pre-Blast

Come one, come all…the F3 Northshore 2nd Anniversary Convergence is this Saturday, April 14th.  We will meet on the Mandeville Lakefront at 0630 as always and employ the use of mechanical devices knows as “bicycles” to visit all of the Northshore AOs for some birthday beat down action.  Please bring your bike if possible.  If you don’t have one, don’t worry.  We’ve arranged for some extras.  YHC just needs a head count if possible so reach out via DM on Group Me or via text at 985-630-8463 to reserve your wheels.  The Plan is to be back on the Lakefront for our coffeeteria by 0830.  Will everything go according to The Plan?  Probably not, but you’ll have to post to find out.  See you in the Gloom.

  • Monday, Monday

YHC showed up at the Milestone Marsh and, immediately, spotted a racoon, but, unfortunately, there were no other F3 brothers posting for this morning’s beatdown.  So, as one might expect the mind games began…should I stay or should I go?

YHC decided to stay, as getting out of the fartsack seems to always be the hardest part.

    Warmup:

    SSH

    WM

    GM

Excercises. Didnt really count, and dont remember the exact order, but here goes:

Bear Crawls, Line Drills across basketball court, Crab Walk, Jog backwards.  At each baseline, I did these excercises: merkins, squats, lunge jumps, plankjacks, leg raises from reverse plank.

    mosey to workout equipment.

pullups, australian pullups, freak nasties, merkins.

    mosey back to basketball court

more running, running backwards, shuffling, line drills.

    ISI at baseline.

Peace Out, back to the Hotel.

Prayed myself out for a good week.

  • Yes we have F3 in California – now you know

Wow it was kind of CHILLY this am with 55 degrees and wet earth to greet our AM.  I picked up our exchange student –Priorities– from Monterrey California – who was in town for WrestleMANIA.

Hung out for a few minutes then at 530 I gave the disclaimer – we had a FNG today – F3 KOOPA – named after his Mario habits. Not fortnite but Mario.  Thats cool!  Welcome to the team – koopa.  18 PAX total for this gloomy beatdown.

OK – so after the disclaimer we ran a parking lot lap.  Then we circled up  – SSH x 20, Imp Walker Squat x 20, Mountain Climber x 20, and Low Slow Squats x 20.   Mosey to the track.

At the track we did – jog one running man, grapevine left one running man, grapevine right one running man, then backwards run for one running man.  REPEAT until we reach the PIMP station.  (Named by Nip Tuck)

At the PIMP station – we did Px3B – Burpees x 15 and that is your count, then Pull ups, Plank jacks, and Pickle Pounders for the other 3 groups. One rotation.

Back to the track.  RUN to the water station by the golf course.  Fast at your own pace.  At the water Dying Roaches until the 6 arrives.   IN CADENCE –   Flutter Kicks, Peter Parkers, Russian Twists, Parker Peters x 20

Then Prisoner Run to the fountain.  (Hallelujah run) Hands over head.

At the fountain we did – 25 step ups each leg, 20 dips and 15 decline merks OYO  This COP was CLASSIC 86 – no counting

Bataan Lunge Walk with last guy doing 5 burpees before sprinting to the front

After we all got one sprint and a ton of lunges, we ran to the row bars.  Plank Jacks instead of plank and wait.

The plan was to run one running man and jog one running man.  CANDYLAND went crazy here and spent some serious energy

At the row bars we set up for a short indian run to the FLAG.  It was 2 sprints for me to get to the FLAG.

COT – we prayed for health and recovery for Holy Name dad – Kenny.  We also prayed for strength for his family in this tough week.

  • Soggy Bottom Boys at The Knoll

Conditions: Mild temperatures, Wet, Damp, Humid, overcast. Although the rain stopped there was plenty of standing water so we could get our shoes and backsides soaked.

***Great post exercise story below too.  One new FNG on the way!***

After getting over our disappointment that the rain had stopped we moseyed to the sundial for warmups consisting of Abe Vigodas, Austin Ass Kickers, 21’s and Bat Wings

Following warm ups, we descended the Knoll to come up the other side doing lunges. The purpose of the lunges was to make the group look like Zombies from the Walking Dead. It worked.

Assembling on the rugby pitch for Bearway to Heaven with Merkin Ladder, Q neglected to instruct the PAX to do a bear crawl between Burpee and Merkin intervals so the group just ran the first set. Rocket and Yes Dear were going fast and appearing to enjoy it so bear crawl requirement was reinstated for subsequent sets.

Captain Thor Big Boy Sit Ups were next followed by a mosey down the Knoll so we could run up backwards 5 times doing the Bernie Sanders. Bern set in after rep 2

Next, we moseyed to a spot with adequate mud and water for the Crunchy Frog exercise. Q’s cadence at this point sounded like a frog.

Ending with an All You Got Run showed we had left it all somewhere back on the field with Moneycat’s car keys.

    Add-on by Worms:

In the rain, lakes and mud Moneycat’s key fob fell out of his zipped jacket pocket somehow.  Most of the Pax had already left but the few remaining, Snackpack, Two-Shoes, Moneycat and Worms searched every inch of the park where we travelled and especially where he’d laid his jacket that morning but no luck. We called a known auto locksmith, Tigers Locksmith,  (an on-the-road key programming shop) but he wasn’t answering at the moment so I left a message.  We then called Popalock and they had someone on the way.   Then the Tiger Locksmith called back and said that “if you don’t have the fob then you still can’t start that car without the fob and the key”.   Fooey.    So I called the Popalock and said not to bother coming since Popalock could only open the car door to get Moneycat’s key but he’d still be stuck there since it was the key fob somewhere out there in those 96 acres of grassy knoll.   Popalock asked about the kind of car so they knew that but they failed to tell us that their guy could only get into the car and could not give him a way to drive the car.  I told Moneycat that we were not going to push him home while his engine was off and his transmission in park.  If it was in neutral I’m sure the 3 of us could grab that rear bumper and push Moneycat home since its only 12 miles to his home, but not with the wheels locked. I said no way.   So Drew of Tiger Locksmith showed up and he and Moneycat had a great time.  Turns out Drew Mulvanah is a Brother and is from New Zealand and he is very interested in F3.   He’s supposed to post with us soon!  Good work Moneycat for EHing the new man!  What a way to make friends other than over a beer!

  • Scramblin to backblast

Its better late than never!  That’s my feeling about being so late for this backblast.  I apologize if any of you were waiting for it’s appearance with baited breath!

    warmarama:

    SSH x 20

    GM x 20

    HK x 20

    BK x 20 all IC

3.2 mile run.   Mumble chatter here mostly—but, we got to hear shooter’s low-down on the performance of ALL of our F3 brethren in the Crescent City Classic.   Major T-Claps to all who ran!!!  Nice work, men!

ISI challenge after the run and some merkins (is it really an F3 workout without them?), freak nasties, pull-ups, hello dollys, flutter kicks

thanks to pelican to praying us out

and thanks for letting me lead and become a better man

  • I’d better get this backblast done before Turbo yells at me

Have you every felt like “Phil in the backseat of the Mirthmobile?”

Some of you young whippersnappers may not be familiar with Phil, if so, check out this link

So as the heavy weather plowed through Covington early Wednesday morning, it made me think of the lyrics from Bohemian Rhapsody…Thunder Bolt and Lighting very very frightening me….

anyways… with the inclement weather I had to ditch my workout plan and go with the Bohemian Rhapsody:

Bohemian:having informal and unconventional social habit

Rhapsody:episodic yet integrated, free flowing in structure, featuring a range of highly contrasted moods, color, and tonality

Here is how it went in the steady rain:

Warmup: Side Straddle Hops,Squats, Arm Circles, Seal Jacks,Butt Kicks, Toe Touches, Speed-Skater Hops, all 20xIC, with plenty of merkins in between.

Mosey over to the parking garage for Hurdle and Plank fun-o-rama:

Each pax in plank position, spaced about 10 feet from each other. One jumps up and hurdles each of the planking pax, then assumes plank at the end of the line. Did this up the ramps to the upper deck.

Then we ran the stairwells up and down and around with a task (burpees, merkins, ditchdiggers, duckhops) in between each of the four roundtrips.

Then we did a few sets of sprints across the top deck and back. The rain was feeling good!

Then we did a slow meandering Indian run down the parking garage ramps & back to the flag.

A few minutes of mary: Nolan Ryans and flutter kicks.

Count-o-rama, announcements, and Astro leads us out with a prayer.

  • Rollin’ Dice in da Rain (Gambleholics Anonymous)

So Much for the ch4 forecast last night saying that the rain would be out of here by 5am and we would only get about 1/2 an inch! Fortunately, it settled to a light drizzle by the stroke of 6:30am. (not so much for our southshore bretheren)

But the 1st rule of Gambleholics Anonymous is to show up…I suppose. And so 4 brave PAX indeed did just that. Calling a rain-induced audible to the planned strategy for YHC’s clandestine beatdown, we opened with a little warm-o-rama consisting of 20x each:

    Toe Touches

    Windmills

    SSH

    Imperial Walkers

    High Knees

After an unusually brief mosey we commenced with a dice-rolling, knowledge-testing, beatdown of fun, ass-whoopin dimensions! And speaking of brief, for those who did not claim victory over the dry fart sack and the torrential weather that southern Louisiana was presented with this gloom, this is all of this sure-to-reappear beatdown  you have access to at this point.

After returning from whence we came, we closed out with Mary consisting of 20x:

    Freddy Flutters

    Crunchy Frogs

    100s

    Count, Name , Prayer

2 year convergence next saturday, sure to be an adventure not to be missed. Bring your bike if you can/have one

Many thanks to the PAX who posted and endured the beta test if YHCs lead today. For those who didn’t…you’ll get your chance soon – I pinky promise!

  • 11’s Up The Mountain

It was a lovely morning for 19 men to meet in the gloom to grow and improve themselves.  DISCLAIMER!  Let’s mosey… circle up in front of the Tulane sign:

    -SSH x 30 IC

    -IW x 30 IC

    -Mt Climbers x 30 IC

    -Arm Circles x 30 IC (10 ea dir; front/back/chinook)

    -J-Lo’s x 20 IC

Let’s head to the bottom of the mountain.  Column of twos and Indian Run to the top.  It’s time to bring 11’s back…we just don’t do them anymore.  At the top, on your own, run to the bottom of the incline, do 10 crossfit merkins, run back up and do 1 WWII sit-ups…run back down and do 9 crossfit merkins, run back up for 2 WWII sit-ups, and keep going until reversed.  After a couple of the young studs finished and planked, the rest of us stopped where we were and headed down the mountain to the lawn in front of touchdown Jesus for some Mary.

That was fun and we still have time for more Mary:

    -LBC x 30 IC

    -Penguins x 30 IC

    -Flutter kicks x 20 IC

    -Hello Dolly’s x 20 IC

    -Wife Pleasers x 20 IC

Hurry up to the SF so we’re not late and RY chews us out….countoff, namerama, announcements, shoutouts and a prayer.  Welcome Skid Mark from F3-South Wake, NC.   It was a pleasure to lead.  I look forward to the next time.

  • R.E.D Friday – The Collin Hero WOD

    Conditions:  Overcast and 61.

Perfect morning to get some work in.  I showed up about 12 minutes early to find Hand Grenada had beaten me to the AO.  He helped me set up the “equipment” for today’s Hero WOD.  (Thanks to Triple Shift for the buckets of water he stashed by the pumps and thanks to Jefferson Parish for not removing said buckets).

In all, 8 men posted this morning to pay tribute to our service men and women deployed around the world.  We were honored to have two Veterans with us – Mahatama and Kimchi.  Thank you for your service.

    Warm-up

    SSH x 31; Peter Parker x 31; Windmills x 15; Forward Arm Circles x 15; Morocan Night Club (sans squat) x 15; Backward Arm Circles x 15

The Thang – Collin Hero WOD

The goal is 6 rounds in 35 minutes.  Push yourself to do more than that.

    • 400 meter Rock Carry – Use a rock between 20 and 30 pounds
    • 12 Push Press – Use a rock between 40 and 60 pounds
    • 12 Box Jumps – Can be modified to step ups
    • 12 Sumo Deadlift Hi-Pulls – Use Bucket full of water

Impressive performances all around.  Mahatma, the unofficial king of R.E.D Friday workouts, got in 8 rounds.  Kimchi and YHC got in 7, All others got in 6 more or less.

    • T-claps to Abacus for wearing Red to R.E.D. Friday.  The man gets it.
    • T-claps to HVAC for not only getting in some running before the workout, but timing his pre-thang run so that it ended exactly at 0530
    • T-claps to Hand Grenada for posting consistently since Walley EH’d him (and for not parking illegally).
    • T-claps to Kimchi for coming out on his day off – he’s worked 14 straight 12 hour days or 12 straight 14 hour days…I’m not sure, but either way it’s hard.
    • T-claps to Abacus, Two Yutes, and Rev Sox.  Their consistency and growth is impressive.
    • And T-claps to Mahatma for being a beast and pushing us all.  When I grow up I want to be like him.
