YHC was just in time for 6:00 due to oversleeping. Maverick was on Cowbell time and caught up with us at the Justice Center. QIC was asked what size rock to pick, and the answer was whatever you want. Which should have been a small one.

Great to have Bean (aka Batman) back, and great stories about the bats and the cost of a Rabies shot. Mumblechatter was all over the place and included Grover, a nude bar, bats, Turbos beatdown last week, and the Cake walk.

Thanks for following my lead – Akbar.

  • Did Cowbell send out a message?? – from Shooter

YHC arrived a little earlier than normal for the Scramble, but as the clock ticked away and 0515 approached, it seemed as if I might actually not have any participants this gloom…
Not so fast though as the clock struck 0513 and Bird turned the corner quickly parking and emerging wearing flip flops, which one could easily mistaken as the Southshores Hawgcycle.. Then right behind comes in Zoolander and Waterpik… Now you know where this is going because it’s 0515 and time to get started.. As if it’s precisely planned and never altered here comes the sights of Cowbell rounding the corner and pulling up after a few warmup exercises… YHC took the PAX through, 10IC Self love, Abe Vogadas, Toe Touches, SSH, Hillbillies, Imperial walkers and some calf stretch’s and runners poses…
This mornings route was traditional adding in a loop in Hermitage and wrapping up with 25IC LBCs and a plank hold for a min..

Appreciate you guys slowing your pace this morning as Cowbell and Waterpik circled back for the ole caboose 2x…

    Until the next Gloom 👍🏼👊🏼✌🏼!!

  • Back in the Game – from TurboTax

Great to be back in the game with my F3 brothers. 7 strong at The Gipper this morning. After a warmup of butt kicks, shoulder taps, high knees, Peter Parkers, seal jacks and Parker Peters, we moseyed to the Taj Mahal for some EMOM action. Bobby Hurleys, curtsey squats, toe touches, ice skater hops and Sister Mary Katherine’s were the order of the day for 30 long minutes. Finished things off with some wall sits and vertical jumps before returning to the Shovel Flag where Fletch prayed us out. Thanks for letting me lead guys.

  • Independence Day After – from Russo

This sounds like a broken record these days, but it was 78 degrees and HUMID at Granny’s this morning. What was new(ish) was the return of Cowbell (dare I say on time?), fresh off an amazing stretch of wedding/ national title / honeymoon, a Bird sighting, Bushwhacker and what has become his trusty walkie, and Akbar. They joined “regulars” Hammer, Steve, and YHC to close out Independence Day weekend in style with a 1776 themed beatdown. Doing a quick count of fingers, pax of 7 appeared to have all digits accounted for, so amateur firework festivities seemed to have gone well.

    – cherry pickers
    – arm circles
    – grass grabbers
    – windmills

COT, Name-o-Rama, announcements, and prayer closed us out. Reminder that the Grarly Nutria (July 20) and St. Vincent 500 (August 13) are both quickly approaching. Check Slack for more info.

Generally speaking, we take a lot of freedoms and blessings for granted, at least I know that I do. It’s easy to be distracted and go about our daily lives with its worries and chores and tasks and not take a minute to give thanks. On July 4th, I’m reminded of just how blessed I am to live in a country where, despite its flaws and fights, disagreements and ideologies, we are allowed to practice freedoms and have rights that others do not have. My challenge to all of us is that we take a minute to give thanks, reflect on how we’re blessed, and then go out and use that to provide good things for those around us.

I appreciate each of you joining, pushing me to work harder and make myself better, and look forward to doing it again.

Checking the notes from the pre-blast:
1 – Minimal burpees (6, 7 if you count an 8 count bodybuilder): check!

2 – minimal moseying, staying close to home base: check!

    3 – sweat: check!

    4 – math: check!

5 – bats: check! (Although I only briefly caught a glimpse on the stage as we were moseying, no attacks noted)

  • Luscious lips and Radiant skin were on display at the A1c!! – from Shooter

Alright, the title too this BB may seem a little strange, however for those in attendance the appreciation of it had to be mentioned.. As stated in my BB yesterday, I have been out the mix of Qing lately, so I doubled up this week to make my payment to the A1c following my Q at the scramble.. And let me just tell you it did not disappoint, as I would learn more about the site AO leader Jose10k than one man needs to know.. Before I go there though, I want to give T👏🏼s too Murdock and his sons Demo and Varsity for making the trek over from the Pearl River area for the second time this week… It was great catching up with Murdock and watching the friendly competition with his sons throughout the beatdown… So back to Jose 10k, if many of you have not taken notice lately please do the next time you see him out at the AOs and be sure to express how Radiant his skin reflects in the humid gloom along with his luscious lips… Please keep it PG-13 or younger when other young PAX are around but I know he will appreciate the compliments… Before this gets any weirder let me give you the specifics to the beatdown…

YHC wanted to give a pre Independence Day homage of sorts by using our soon to be 246 year old existence as a free nation with honoring the numbers of 7/4/1776… Oh and by the way just so you know BBQ graduated high school in 1976 in the Bicentennial year of our nation, which I believe to be pretty cool to have a PAXer of his great caliber posting and sharing beatdowns with…

    Warmup
    17IC Abe Vogadas
    76 SSH
    17IC Grass grabbers
    76 Air presses
Moseyed down from the parking garage to the bottom level..

    Thang
    Instructions provided
    7 Rounds
    4 8 count body builders
1 all out sprint up the first ramp
    7 IC Merkins
7 1st round IC Jump squats which at this point audible called to Squat hold IC for rounds 2-7… Worked better..
    6 IC Mountain climbers

May not seem like much on paper but YHC realized after 3 rounds the PAX would receive an adequate beatdown…

Wrapped up with a Mosey back to the top for 4 mins of Mary..

    17 IC Flutter kicks
    76 LBCs OyO
    17 IC Hello Dollies
    76 💯s

PAX counted off, made announcements of all the upcoming CSAUPs on the horizon and the Radiant glowing luscious lipped Jose10k prayed us out…

Thanks for all you gents for posting and inspiring me to push myself on this Gloom and until the next 👊🏼💪🏼✌🏼!!!

  • “I’m Cosmo!” – from Shooter

    https://youtube.com/playlist?list=RDCMUCKv01ZGOJhp2HbtDe4EvS8A&playnext=1

4 PAX joined YHC for his returned Q at the Scramble on a heavy humid gloom… As we started to warmup, visions of headlights excited Hammer how perfect it must be for Cowbell to time it so precisely to show up at 0516… Only this time he was wrong in his assessments as the PAX shouted its Wacker or shall we say the new “I’m Cosmo.” Check out the link above to understand and feel free to ask Waterpik, Steve or myself for clarity..

    Warmup
15IC Torso twists, Toe Touches, Abe Vogadas and squats followed by Cowbell traditional leg swings front/back and left/right to 10 OYO..

Ran down to Messina hooked a left on Monroe to West Beach then a right down to the lakefront and to the street right past the bridge taking a left back up to Monroe returning to the AO with 2 mins to spare for a plank hold..

Appreciate being back at out with my F3 brethren and if interested meet me Tomorrow for a pre Fourth of July beatdown at the A1c..

Thanks to Hammer for praying us out and until the next Gloom!! 👍🏼👊🏼✌🏼!!!

  • Rocks and Blimps with a Splash of Merlot – from Akbar

YHC took the late-night Q with a plan in mind for a different beatdown, where the PAX would pick up some bricks and mosey around carrying them the whole time doing exercises. The plan was quickly modified since there were no bricks, so we took a mosey for some time to think. Great to see Murdock again who brought his 2.0’s Demo and Varsity, who got named at the 007 this week.

No better way to think than stop at the Rock Garden – so we each grabbed a rock and went through Shoulder Presses, Chest Presses, Skull Crushers, Rows, and Curls x 15 IC. During which time my brain clicked, and we continued to the Justice Center for BLIMPS.

The route was from the first bench, past the Smokers Lounge, up the stairs for 10 Jump Squats, then return. Bear Crawls to the benches; Lunge Walk to Smokers Lounge; 10 Irkins at each bench; 10 Merkins at each light; 10 Peter Parkers; and 10 Squats at each bench.

Varsity splashed Merlot after the Merkins but kept on pushing like any good kid would do.

Back to the Rock Garden to finish where we started. x10 IC – Chest Presses, Rows, Curls, Shoulder Presses, Skull Crushers, and Good Mornings. BBQ requested a torso twist to help with our golf swings, and lead cadence for the finisher.

Back to the flag with time for LMC’s, LBC’s and Hello Dolly x15 IC. Count, Name, and Murdock prayed us out.

Announcements: Gnarly Nutria July 20th, 4th of July 5k in Covington, F3 Thibodaux CSAUP August 13th, Russo’s Big Easy Big Heart 5k July 16th

Thanks for following my unthought out lead, always a pleasure to spend a Wednesday morning with y’all – Akbar

  • Opposite Day – from Russo

Fantastic Pax of 4 this morning at Granny’s, with temps slightly cooler (but no less humid). Early chatter revolved around vacations, new home projects, and various white powders. There was a tease of a theme, so YHC thought about kid’s games and how we might be able to incorporate into a beatdown to mix things up some.

My head immediately went to “What do I remember doing or saying when I was younger?” Duck Duck Goose is still bouncing around in my brain, Tag is too much running and I didn’t want to be responsible for someone smacking their dome on a metal handrail or column, and Red Red Rover might get one of us killed when JV is sent right over.

Moving on to phrases, “I know you are but what am I?” doesn’t really lend itself to a beatdown easily and “Takes one to know one” will be reserved for Rummel grads (Raider Pride!), but “Today is opposite day” does can be useful, so away we went with reverses and opposites, albeit very limited in creativity.

    Up Warm (All IC 10x – 20x)
    – Sealjacks
    – Windmills
    – Air presses
    – Toe touches
    – SSH
    – Imperial walkers

    Gnaht (Thang)
Pax moseyed to the tunnel, but upon hearing “reverse”, we put it into reverse gear and back pedaled until YHC called “reverse” again.

At the tunnel, it was 4 rounds of traversing the tunnel, side shuffles up and down, back pedal in the tunnel, with 10 plankjack shoulder taps on one side and 10 Parker Peters on the other.

Mosey back was more of the same “reverse” game, alternating mosey and back pedal until we reached the bus stop, where Pax completed 10 IC Urkins, reversed grip to complete 10 IC freak nastys.

A final mosey to start, where JV’s fright to simple pick between option “A” and “B” reared its head. His choice of A lead to a backwards climb up the pilot house and a backwards walk down, followed by crawl bears from one end of the columns to the other, 10 gas pumps/reverse crunches, and then reverse lunges back and ten more gas pumps. With about 90 seconds left, we planked it up until COT, Name-o-Rama, announcements, and prayer closed us out.

I gave some thought to upping the intensity of the theme by a backwards cadence (think 3…2…1 1!, 3…2…1 2!) but somewhere along the way the Spirit said “you all have enough trouble with cadence regularly, it’s best you keep it simple”.

Thanks to those that joined, it was rather enjoyable and I look forward to expanding the theme on a future beatdown. Now: is that a true statement or a continuation of Opposite Day?

  • The Dynamic Duo at the A1C – from Jose10k

YHC arrived early to the A1C to find Moby gazing up at the sky as the planets aligned. I will not try to compete with the wordsmith from Tuesday (Steve), but Uranus was not visible this morning. We used the 15 minutes to discuss possible workouts, waiting on others to show up. No BBQ, no Hammer, Shooter is away on another planet trying to be more like Tanked Up. And then there is Cowbell, trying to figure out how to get a big screen tv hooked up in the Keys so he can watch Ole Miss and say I do at the same time. On the eve of Hammers epic beatdown (there is no way he’s going to allow his boys to outdo him), we decided to take it easy. Warm-up: Moby led us in a ton of stretches. If you can imagine a stretch, we did it.
The Thang: We moseyed off the A1C to the sidewalk to the walls for some Irkins, bulgarian split squats, freak nastys, cooperhead squats. Moseyed to the parking lot behind the A1C to discuss the original plans for the beatdown (future dora in the future). Moseyed to the front of the courthouse for some more irkins, freak nastyes. Moseyed to the rock garden for some curls for the girls and shoulder presses. Back to the A1C for calve raises to the top. Finished off with 6 minutes of Mary.
COT. More conversations afterwards with of course special attention to blood sugar, spaghetti sauce, gardening, and body aliments. SYITG gentlemen.

  • Uranus in Retrograde – from Steve

Some weird planetary alignment threw us into an alternate universe this morning, and not a good one.

Cowbell showed up on time (which should’ve been our first sign that things were askew), immediately souring JV’s intention to “live his life gloriously” while Cowbell was away for a week. As the smile dropped from JV’s face, it was immediately picked up by Cowbell who came frolicking (yeah, frolicking) in with a noticeable twinkle in his eye and a pep in his step. You might think this was due to his impending wedding bliss, but no – apparently there’s some sort of college baseball finals going on right now.

Anyway, a super chatty warmorama caused YHC to abandon cadence counting for the first time in 5 years, before finally just calling it and heading to the stage for the intended circuit routine.

Now the night before, Bushwacker had texted Jose and me that today – the first official day of summer (yeah, right) – there would be a dazzling planetary alignment: five planets in an arc, with the crescent moon situated somewhere in the middle. So, once in the grassy knoll at the foot of the stage, we looked up. But it was difficult to see anything beyond the thick swarm of bats that had suddenly blotted out the sky. Seriously, it was like Old Testament Egypt out at the amphitheater this morning.

One grazed JV’s face, which prompted a quick swat and a, “Get outta here.” But when one buzzed Cowbell’s face, mid-jumping rope, he let out a howl and nearly fell off the stage. Not wanting to bring Ebola or SARS down to Key West for his wedding, Cowbell was not happy about these bats. (JV, though, happily added this incident, along with Cowbell’s tire pull efforts, to his list of ammo for those occasions when he needs to defend himself.)

Oh yeah, and we were doing some exercises out there, too: jumping rope, curls, plank toe taps with resistance bands, freak nasties, flutters, planks, hand release merkins, squat thrusters, etc, with occasional runs hoping the swarm would dissipate.

But bats were only the first plague that descended on us this morning. The second, and arguably worse, was mosquitos. I guess it didn’t help that we were lying around in the grass complaining instead of doing said exercises, but those suckers were eating us alive. Eventually, we had the sense to move to another area that had fans going.

All in all, there was a lot of grumbling, and in a weird reversal that must’ve been due to Jupiter’s third moon ascending, it was everyone BUT Jose who was complaining. I’m telling you, bad omens all over the place at Granny’s this morning.

Some things that we complained about: obviously, bats, mosquitos, proper jump rope technique (double jumps??), Bypass (ok, ok – Jose did contribute a little here), airline security lines, and Richard Simmons being the most important Brother Martin alum.

YHC nearly went over because, apparently, time flies when you’re being attacked by nature and having a good gripe session. COT, nameorama, and Jose prayed us out, with intentions for Cowbells wedding and everyone’s safe travels down there.

Reminder, a few CSAUP’s coming up: Goose and Paradox’s St. Vincent 500 in Thibodeaux, Hammer’s yet-to-be-named standing guard at the CPC, and, of course, the fast-approaching Gnarly Nutria. Thanks guys for the entertaining morning, always appreciate getting stronger with you all.
