  • This Is 40 – from Steve

Hammer hit us with an interesting study (from Harvard, no less!) yesterday at the Scramble: middle aged men who can do 40 pushups in one attempt have a 96% reduced risk of suffering from heart disease over the next 10 years. YHC had to look up the actual stats post-beatdown, and was unaware of this 10 year qualifier. Here I am promising Russo and Groupie that they were good for life with these 40 merkins!

So, after a brief warmup, we hit the road to the lakefront, stopping at each intersection for a set of 40 of the following exercises:

    – Merkins
    – Leg Raises
    – Step Ups (40 ea leg)
    – Shoulder Taps
    – Monkey Humpers
    – Freak Nasties
    – Hello Dollies
    – Jump Squats
    – Hand-Release Merkins
    – Air Presses
    – Big Boy Sit-ups

YHC got to know Groupie a bit, enjoyed the always good mumblechatter with Russo, and logged an extra 1.2 miles for RCR. (You can assume all of my Q’s this month will at least involve a mile of running.) Little bit of Mary there at the end, followed by COT, where Russo closed us out. Thanks for the post gents, always a pleasure to be out there with you guys.

  • E.M.O.M. – from Fletch

3 pax showed up for a beat down. No one had signed up so I took the Q.
Warmup: IC 15 arm circles, forward and back, cherry pickers, grass grabbers, Merkins, imperial walkers, windmills, and Merkins again.
Thang: lieutenant Dan’s to the corner and mosey around the block to the Gipper. We collected some coupons for an EMOM workout.
6 burpee’s, 8 kettlebell swings, 10 squats and 12 merkins. Half way through we traded swings for 10 curls. Moseyed once more around the caboose and back. IC 20 SSH and 3 minutes of core to finish. Q prayed us out. Thanks for the lead.

  • It’s The Most Wonderful Time of The Year – from Steve

Pik strolled up to the Scramble this morning to find a pax of 9 already huddled (and another with his weathered Charity sweatshirt coming in hot), and he wondered what the hell was going on. Then he remembered, oh yeah, IT’S FEBRUARY.

That’s right, the second most wonderful time of the year, where if you miss one day of running, you realize you’ll need 8-10 miles the next day just to make up for it. Or, if you’re Frank, simply run a full marathon instead of a half (and, of course, 4 murphs instead of two).

Anyway, big pax assembled today for the start of RCR 2024, even turning some ruckers (JV and Russo) into runners, and bringing out old familiar (yet clean shaven) faces like Chewy.

Lakefront route today, all the way to Girod to get us a little past 4 miles. Went a little over on time also, my apologies fellas.

COT with straggler ruckers still rolling in, and Hammer prayed us out. T-claps to all the pre-thangers – Jose, Hammer, Waterpik.

Don’t forget to log your miles: https://www.runcajunrun.com/mileage-log/ It is a leap year, so hey, with that extra day now is the time to shoot for the RCR record of 403 miles.

Oh, and even though there’s been no buzz about it and no one even knows where the hell the Freedom Hammer lives and there’s an event in Thibodaux that morning, the Krazy Ivan is indeed still happening on Saturday, Feb 17th, at 8pm. If you don’t have a tank top, Sogo can probably lend you one.

  • Trio of Tards on this Tuesday!! – from Shooter

Rolling up to Granny’s with just one car in sight could only mean one Tard was already getting after it.. You guessed it, Jose10k was already Moseying through the streets of Mandeville looking to get out to a BIG lead in 2024 ahead of Russo on the PAXminer report.. YHC would soon be joined by another Tard in Steve, as he rolled up on his bike out of the dark..
We started our warmup completing Arm circles, selflove, windmills, grass grabbers, toe touches and SSH.
Workout included a deck of cards as we went zigzagging through the streets..
Exercise’s were ❤️8 count body builders, ♦️Merkins, ♠️Flutter kicks and ♣️Carolina dry docks. Moseyed to each corner, flipped over cards till each suit got played before moving on. First corner proved to have the luck as each time we visited 4 cards flipped and each suit played. Other corners were not as friendly..

Appreciate you both for posting and until the next Gloom 👍🏼👊🏼✌🏼!!

  • The Regular Route – from Akbar

3 Amigos, warmer weather, regular route running the mile down to the Lakefront and back from whence the AO got its name. Sore from head to toe after Saturdays rainy beatdown, QIC’s plan was to focus on everything else but chest and legs. Well, things don’t always go as planned.

Warm up: SSH, Mountain Climbers, Grass Grabbers, Imperial Walkers, Arm Circles, Self-Love

Playground: 3x 10 pull ups and 10 squats. The mulch was removed which made us jump a little higher for the pull up bar.

Milestone Mosey to the lakefront, stopping at each intersection for Merkins, SMC, and Supermans.

Wall: Dirkin, Freak Nasty, Step ups, Bulgarian split Squats, x10 IC regular, lunge walk to the tree and back, repeato Copperhead style.

Run back for Mary at center court. Heals to Heaven, Hello Dolly, Rosalita, LBC until time.

Count, Name, and YHC prayed us out.

Announcements: Run Cajun Run – sign up.

    SYITG,

    Akbar

  • Mandevillians ASSEMBLE! – from Jose10k

Lost my first one, so here’s my 2nd one. We ran, Mandevillians represented well, and Bushwacker brought a trailer for a 4 foot ladder

  • The SWAT-a-thon – from Jose10k

5 HIMS took the red pill this morning to put in the work on a warm but humid morning. The warm-up was the usual stretches of the old and sore muscles and joints. We started off on the second floor to a round of 11s. Squats on the top, burpees on the bottom, back pedal down, sprint to the top. During this workout, we began to notice an organization of individuals on the first floor. As time passed, the number of people grew. As did their weaponry and kevlar. We believe we saw the organization of a SWAT raid, as they each got into unmarked vehicles and drove off. Anywho, we finished up and did one armed row along the fence in cadence (2 rounds) followed by hip flexors. Then 2 calf raises up the stairs (can’t come to the A1C without calf raises). Lt. Dan the length of the parking garage and came back to circle up on your 6. Wife pleasers (all day and all night), another A1C favorite. A few more core and we were done. Intentions for Freon and his wife, Dark Wings friends’ father, and Fletch prayed us out. It was good to see Dark Wing and BBQ post again. Always glad when you get the band back together, we just were a “mindless” Einstein away from having a reunion tour. RunCajunRun has one more team on the northshore looking for members. Hammer has the Q tomorrow. As always, stay safe, stay dry, avoid the mud puddles, but never avoid the beatdowns. SYITG

  • Playing in Muddy puddles!! – from Shooter

With 7.5 inches of rain from the previous day and misty conditions in this Gloom.
5 PAX made the post at the scramble for a mix of warmups and roughly 4 miles through the streets of Mandeville. I promise this time I was not bashing anything about the sidewalk installation. In fact Hammer and I were having good chadder along the newly paved path. We had to detour at one point as it has not yet been completed. Well that is where the Muddy puddle comes in as we both nearly took a spill as we tried to switch from sidewalk to shoulder in a sloppy exchange. Luckily neither of us did and one day we will get to journey this newly installed shoulder to a shoulder as Pelican stated..

Appreciate the post gentlemen and until the next Gloom 👍🏼👊🏼✌🏼!!

  • Cinder Block work at The Gipper – from Einstein

    Akbar led us out.

  • 3 on the Escalator – from Russo

Muggy and not cool this morning at Granny’s, as low 60s returned, as did the sweating for YHC. Jose was wrapping up his pre-thing run, all business-like and ready to kick some tail. Steve joined shortly thereafter. Reason number 104 to come out to Granny’s: to catch Steve coming out for the darkness riding his bike, not looking a whole lot different than when Jigsaw wanders out to tell his next unsuspecting victim “I want to play a game.” Now I will ponder what a Saw-inspired beatdown would look like: “you have two minutes to complete 20 burpees with Waterpik form, or you’ll be subject to feeling the Jose summer sweat splashdown”.

    Warmup – all 10-15x IC
Sealjacks, grass grabbers, high knees, imperial walkers, self love, toe touches

    Thang
I had hoped to compete what YHC calls the Escalator, 8 exercises, varying rep counts 1 through 8, total rep for each of the 8 at 36, as we moseyed in a figure 8 pattern around Granny’s. Alas, it’s a farther mosey than expected, so we were only able to complete 4 of the 8 rounds. All told, even without a fancy Garmin, my phone said we did about 2 miles, or about 3200 meters. Which is 8 times around a standard 400 meter track. Math, Jose!

    Exercises:

    8 count bodybuilders
    SMCs
Imperial squat walkers (2 is 1)
    Donkey kicks
    Big boy sit-ups
    Wide merkins
    Kid N Plays (2 is 1)
    Murder bunnies

Mumble revolved around Mardi Gras, leaks, appliances, episode 8s, and New Year’s resolutions.

COT, NOR, Announcements, Prayer, in that order.

RCR, Camping, Ivan, all coming up.

Major T claps to both Steve and Jose for posting after Sunday’s nightmare, made all the more impressive because of Jose’s IronPax / Au Lait / Nightmare trifecta. He continues to set the bar high.
