  • New AO — F3 Fairhope

Kuch and I bumped into each other at lunch at The Grand Hotel in Fairhope, AL, during a little family R&R during the 4th of July weekend. Naturally, we decided to post. And Kuch even EH’ed an attorney colleague also at The Grand for the weekend. We were hoping for a guest appearance by Da Parrish, but his locale was too far away to join us. So the 3 of us met in the morning glory (not gloomy at all) for a holiday heat beat down. The usual disclaimer and off we go.

A short mosey to the warm-up COP at a gazebo over-looking Mobile Bay. SSH x 20 IC, IW x 15 IC, Arm Circles IC 10 forward and 10 backwards, Grass grabbers x 10 IC, Mountain Climbers x 10 IC.

We started with a Route 66 along the Mobile Bay boardwalk, with Merkins at each light post, starting with 5 Merkins and ending with 13. We continued the Route 66 on the boardwalk along the bay, marveling at the huge beautiful lake homes. We did WWII sit-ups at each dock, starting at 5 and ending at 15, then continued with 10 squats at each dock for another 10 docks.

We turned around and moseyed back to the green lawn at The Grand. Then Kuch delivered the real beat down: 11’s with burpees and jump lunges. After the 3rd pass, YHC was out of breath and made the executive decision to switch out jump lunges for LBC’s. It was still brutal enough, and after 55 burpees we were all gassed.

We moseyed back to our starting point for count-off, name-o-rama, announcements, and a prayer. We named our FNG @Hobbs, so welcome him when he shows up back in NOLA. I forgot to take a pic at the beatdown, but we got one at the pool after. I highly recommend this new AO. Very scenic. Just plan a trip to The Grand.

  • Foundry McDeuce

13 men arrived at the Foundry on a really beautiful May morning. Clear skies, cool, sun rising. Days like this really make you appreciate the beauty in the world, and make getting out of bed worth it. Enjoy it while it lasts fellas, because the heat is coming. A disclaimer and off we go.

We mosey to the track for the warm-up COP: SSH x 20 IC, IW x 20 IC, Windmills x 10 IC, Arm Circles 10 forward 10 backward IC, J-Lo’s x 10 IC, Mountain Climbers x 10 IC.

We stayed at the track for a Dirty McDeuce. 3 exercises with a 12 count (1 arm, 1 leg, 1 core), then a 400m lap around the track.

    • Round 1: Merkins, Squats, LBC’s
    • Round 2: Right leg cross-over Merkins, Side Lunges, Flutter Kicks
    • Round 3: Left leg cross-over Merkins, Jump Lunges, Hello Dolly
    • Round 4: Teepee Merkins, Monkey Humpers, American Hammer

Next we moseyed to the Foundry, stopping at each Light post for 5 Merkins. At the Foundry, 4 stations for circuit work.

    • Round 1: Body Rows, Step-ups, Pull-ups, 15 WWII sit ups (the count)
    • Round 2: Body Rows, Dips, Hanging knee ups, 20 Squats (the count)

We mosey back to the track for a 200m sprint, then mosey on to the flag for count-off, name-o-rama, announcements, intentions, and a prayer. Days like this are really what it’s all about. A beautiful crisp day spect with friends trying to make ourselves better. Thank you guys.

  • Inverted BLIMP Pyramids. Or something like that.

Man, what a beautiful Saturday morning in April. It’s really one of the best months of the year in NOLA. 20 men gathered on this beautiful day for some F3. The usual disclaimer and off we go.

We moseyed to the great lawn, unusually soggy and muddy on this day, for the warm-up COP:

    • SSH x 20 IC
    • Peter Parkers x 20 IC
    • Abe Vigodas x 10 IC
    • Arm Circles 10 Forward, 10 Backward IC
    • Hill Billies x 20 IC
    • Mountain Climbers x 20 IC

Next a short jog to the front of NOMA where we crossed paths with the MuscleShip, on their turf. Here YHC distastefully lead the Mothership pax in 10 Monkey Humpers in the general direction of the MuscleShip pax. Sorry @Abacus, not very tasteful of this Q. I do apologize.

Then we lined up for an inverted BLIMP pyramid along the tree line, or something like that. Exercise, then run to the next tree.

    • 5 Burpees
    • 10 Lunges each leg
    • 15 Imperial Walkers each leg
    • 20 Merkins
    • 25 Plank Jacks
    • 30 Squats
    • 30 Squats
    • 25 Plank Jacks
    • 20 Merkins
    • 15 Imperial Walkers each leg
    • 10 Lunger each leg
    • 5 Burpees

We moseyed to the end of Lelong Drive for the next COP:

    • Side lunges x 10 IC
    • Low slow squats x 20 IC
    • Tree Huggers x 10 IC

Then travelled back down the opposite side of Lelong Drive, heading back toward NOMA, with animals on parade. Parade for 6 trees, doing a different animal at each tree. Then a Route 66 back to NOMA, stopping at each street light for 5 jump lunges with each leg.

Back at NOMA, pair up for 2 rounds of Merkin ladders. One pax does a Merkin ladder up the steps of NOMA, 8 Merkins at the bottom to 1 at the top, while the other pax does alternating step-ups at the fountain. 2 rounds.

Mosey to the baby foundry. Each pax does 10 pull-ups, 10 dips. 2 rounds.

Mosey to the fence at Tad Gormley stadium for calf raises. Regular calf raises x 20 IC, toe-in calf raises x 20 IC, toe-out calf raises x 20 IC.

Finally mosey back to the flag for some hamstring stretches before the finish. Count-off, name-o-rama, intentions, and a prayer. Welcome to our FNG, Donatello. Thank you for letting me lead.

  • Don’t Lose Left Eye

After losing Left Eye last week, I was offered redemption. Left Eye saw I had the Q at Rock City, and was kind enough to give me another shot. 24 men arrived in the dark gloom of Pontiff, without lights, for a beatdown in the dark and damp. Bogey suggested we all hold hands and sing Kumbaya during the workout so no man gets left behind. Not a bad idea… The usual disclaimer and off we go.

We moseyed to the usual spot by the rocks for our warm-up COP.

    • SSH x 20 IC
    • IW x 20 IC
    • Windmills x 10 IC
    • Arm circles 10 forward 10 backwards IC
    • LSS x 20 IC
    • Mountain climbers x 20 IC.

Grab a rock and head to the track. We lined up on the 20 yard line of the football field for a rock circuit. I kept one eye on Left Eye the whole time…

    • Shoulder press x 15 IC, sprint to the end zone and back.
    • Rock curls x 15 IC, sprint to the end zone and back.
    • Rock rows x 15 IC, sprint to the end zone and back.
    • Rock squats x 15 IC, sprint to the end zone and back.
    • By this time, Cowbell could see what was coming…
    • Shoulder press x 10 IC, sprint to the end zone and back.
    • Rock curls x 10 IC, sprint to the end zone and back.
    • Rock rows x 10 IC, sprint to the end zone and back.
    • Rock squats x 10 IC, sprint to the end zone and back.
    • Shoulder press x 5 IC, sprint to the end zone and back.
    • Rock curls x 5 IC, sprint to the end zone and back.
    • Rock rows x 5 IC, sprint to the end zone and back.
    • Rock squats x 5 IC, sprint to the end zone and back.

Next we bear crawled from the 20 to the end zone, 20 Merkins in the end zone, and lunge walked back to the 20. Next circuit.

    • Chest press x 20 IC
    • Flutter kicks with rock held high x 20 IC
    • Chest press x 20 IC
    • Hello dolly with rock held high x 20 IC

Then we moved our rocks out to the 40 yard line, and teamed up in Pax of 3 for Merkin relays. 40 yard dash, followed by 15 Merkins, until the other Pax got back to you. 3 rounds of 15 Merkins, followed by 3 rounds of 10 Merkins, for 6 rounds total.

    Circle up for some Mary.

    • LBCs x 20 IC
    • Box cutters x 20 IC
    • Dying cockroach x 20 IC
    • Penguins x 20 IC

Return your beloved rock back to the pile and run back to the flag for a percent finish. (Maybe 1 minute late according to Triple Shift, but his watch must be wrong.) Count-off, name-o-rama, announcements, intentions, and a prayer. I am grateful I did not lose another Pax member today. We were 24 strong throughout. Thank you for letting me lead.

  • Lost Left Eye

8 men arrived at the Foundry in the dark. Sadly, we lost one along the way, but were reunited in the end. The usual disclaimer and off we go.

We moseyed down Roosevelt Mall, and stopped half way for the warm-up COP. SSH x 20 IC, IW x 20 IC, Peter Parkers x 20 IC, Windmills x 10 IC, Arm Circles 10 forward 10 backwards IC, Mountain Climbers x 20 IC

We continued our mosey to the end of Roosevelt Mall for the 2nd COP: Legs. Low slow squats x 10 IC, Side lunges x 10 IC, Al Gore x 10 IC, Jump lunges x 10 IC

Next off to the Foundry for some circuits. 4 stations with 2 men each. 2 circuits of Pull-ups, Squats, Dips, WWII sit-ups (15 count), followed by 2 circuits of Body Rows, Lunges, Hanging Knee-Ups, Crunchy Frogs (10 count).

This is where things got dicey in the dark. We moseyed down the back drive, stopping at each light post for 10 Merkins. Then we lost Left Eye. We turned left, he turned right, things got fouled up, and YHC did a terrible job of keeping the Pax together. Tool circled back for our lost man, but alas, Left Eye could not be found.

At the track, we paired up and completed 2 laps with one Pax sprinting 200 yards while the other Pax cut across the field. Then we circled at the end of the track for some Mary. Flutter kicks x 20 IC, LBC’s x 20 IC, Hello Dolly x 20 IC, Penguins x 20 IC.

We moseyed back to the flag, ready to jump in the car to go find our Lost Left Eye. When out of the gloom, Left Eye appeared. He made an extra mosey to NOMA, then found his way back to the flag. Count-off, Name-o-rama, announcements, intentions, and a prayer. Luckily we were reunited in the end. A good reminder to always circle back for the 6, and leave no man behind. Thanks for letting me lead. I’ll do better next time!

  • Run Mountain Run

37 Pax showed up on this cool Friday morning for some fitness and fellowship. YHC was leading a run up the mountain, and 86 lead the Angry (Tepid) Wave for some miles around the Tulane and Loyola campus. The usual disclaimer and off we go.

We started with our usual jog, making a short loop down St. Charles Ave and back to the horseshoe lawn at Touchdown Jesus. There we circled up for our warm-up COP:

    SSH x 20 IC, IW x 20 IC, Peter Parkers x 20 IC, Windmills x 10 IC, Arm Circles 10 Forward 10 Backwards IC, Mountain Climbers x 20 IC

Next we moseyed to the bottom of Wolfpack Mountain. The entire Pax ran up the mountain, forward running on the inclines, side-hopping the ends, and back peddling the staright aways. Once at the top, a COP with Merkins x 10 IC, Penguins x 20 IC, Left leg cross over Merkins x 10 IC, Dying Cockroach x 20 IC, Right leg cross over Merkins x 10 IC.

At the top of the Mountain, we knocked out some Dora 1-2-3. Apologies to the Pax, as YHC misjudged the amount of time Dora would take. We split into pairs. One Pax ran down the stairs one floor and back up the ramp, while the other Pax exercised. 100 Floyd Mayweathers, 200 Squats, 300 LBC’s.

We ran down the stairs to hit the park benches. Left leg step-ups x 20 IC, Dips x 20 IC, Right leg step-ups x 20 IC, Dips x 15 IC.

We moseyed to the quad for a couple quick sprints. Sprint the quad, 10 Merkins, sprint the quad, 10 Merkins. Then we moseyed back to the flag for the finish.

86 lead his Pax on a 5 mile run to Yulman stadium and back, hitting all 3 mountains along the way.

Count off (37 Pax today!), Name-o-rama, announcements, intentions, and a prayer. I am truly grateful to have F3 Nola in my life. You guys are good friends, and you push me and hopefully make me a better man. Thanks for letting me lead today.

  • Amnesty’s New Sneaks

Amnesty made a special request for a dry workout. He recently purchased some new sneaks, and hoped to keep them mud free. The request was honored. After all, it’s Amnesty. His new neon green sneakers offered a beacon of light on this gloomy morning. 13 men showed up for the challenge. The usual disclaimer and off we go.

    Warm-up COP:

    SSH x 20 IC, IW x 20 IC, Plank Jacks, x 20 IC, Windmills x 10 IC, Arm Circles 10 forward 10 backward IC, Mountain climbers x 20 IC

Route 66 down Roosevelt Mall: Dips. 5 dips at first bench, increase 1 dip each bench, ending at 17.

    Next we moseyed to NOMA.

Right leg power-ups x 20 IC, Left leg power-ups x 20 IC. Then a Merkin ladder up the steps of NOMA, with 8 Merkins on the bottom step and 1 Merkin at the top. Back to the fountain for 10 box jumps, right leg step-ups x 20 IC, left leg step-ups x 20 IC. And back to the steps to repeat another Merkin ladder.

Next, partner up for Dora 1-2-3. 100 Floyd Mayweathers, 200 Squats, 300 LBC’s, while the other Pax runs around NOMA.

Then we moseyed back to the flag, stopping halfway for some Mary. Flutter kicks x 20 IC, Hello Dolly x 20 IC, Dying cockroach x 20 IC. We ended back at the flag, and succeeded in our mission. We kept Amnesty’s sneakers dry. Count-off, Name-o-rama, announcements, intentions, and a prayer. Thanks for letting me lead.

  • 12-0 at #Rockne City

What a beautiful, cool, crisp day for football. Or at least to celebrate football. So 18 men gathered in the gloom at Pontiff Park in a celebration of Notre Dame’s undefeated season, Rockne style. OK, so maybe 1 man was celebrating Notre Dame’s perfect season, but that man was the Q (YHC) so he forced his opinions on everybody else. I know Rudy was with me in spirit. A quick disclaimer and off we go.

    The Warm-Up:

    SSH x 20 IC
    Peter Parkers x 20 IC
    Hill Billies x 20 IC
    Plank Jacks x 20 IC
Arm Circles IC, 10 Forward, 10 Backwards
    Windmills x 10 IC
    Mountain Climbers x 20 IC

Grad a rock and head to the track.

    The 12:
Notre Dame finished the 2018 season undefeated at 12-0. Our last undefeated season was 2012. Notre Dame was the only college football team to beat 12 FBS schools this season. And if we win 2 more games, we will win our 12th national championship. The Pax could hardly contain their excitement. Da Parrish and Bogey marveled at Notre Dame’s gauntlet of a schedule. Rev Sox and Hand-Granada were speechless. War Eagle knew it was coming, and did not show because he could not bear it. Hawg removed his shoes in homage. Mahatma was so inspired, he almost removed his Clemson orange t-shirt (but he didn’t…)

12 reps of each rock exercise to celebrate the 12 victories this year. 3 rounds to celebrate the #3 ranking.
Rock shoulder press x 12 IC
    Rock curls x 12 IC
    Rock rows x 12 IC
    Rock squats x 12 IC
Rock chest press x 12 IC
One lap around the track, sprint the straight aways, jog the curves.

Rock shoulder press x 12 IC
    Rock curls x 12 IC
    Rock rows x 12 IC
    Rock squats x 12 IC
Rock chest press x 12 IC
One lap around the track, sprint the straight aways, jog the curves.

Rock shoulder press x 12 IC
    Rock curls x 12 IC
    Rock rows x 12 IC
    Rock squats x 12 IC
Rock chest press x 12 IC
One lap around the track, sprint the straight aways, jog the curves.

    Circle up for some Mary
    LBC x 20 IC
    Penguins x 20 IC
    Flutter kicks x 20 IC
    Dying cockroach x 20 IC
    Hello Dolly x 20 IC
    American Hammer x 20 IC

Finally, rock lunges with a twist x 10 IC.

The we returned our beloved rocks, and moseyed back to the flag.
High plank for 30 sec, left arm plank for 30 sec, right arm plank for 30 sec.
    Left leg cross-over Merkins x 10, Right leg cross-over Merkins x 10.
Hamstring stretches for a cool down, and a strong finish.
Count off, name-o-rama, announcements, intentions, and a prayer. Hawg thoughtfully offered a prayer for Notre Dame to beat Clemson (at least I think that’s what he meant…)

Thanks for letting me lead. Here’s to a great season. Go Irish!

  • A Stroll Down Route 66

One of my favorite Saturday beat downs was a Route 66 down Esplanade Avenue lead by #Side FX a couple years ago. I am not a very original man, and I like to borrow work-outs from previous ones that I have enjoyed. And it’s fun to get off campus. So I revived the annual #Side FX Route 66. 23 strong men arrived at 0630 on this beautiful Saturday morning. The usual disclaimer and off we go.

We moseyed to the green lawn on the side of NOMA for the warm-up COP.
SSH x 24 IC, representing Notre Dame’s opponent for the day, the #24 Virginia Tech Hokies
    — at which time we realized that #Hokie Pokey was noticeably absent
6 Burpees OYO, giving strength and support to the #6 Notre Dame Fighting Irish, Onward to Victory
    Imperial Walkers x 20 IC
    Peter Parkers x 20 IC
    Windmills x 10 IC
Arm Circles 10 Forward, 10 Backwards IC
    Mountain Climbers x 20 IC

Mosey to the NOMA fountain to grab some bench.
    Left leg power-ups x 20 IC
    Dips x 15 IC
    Right leg power-ups x 20 IC
    Dips x 15 IC

Then mosey over to the lamp posts on Lelong Drive in front of NOMA. Let the Route 66 begin.
Stop at each lamp post for Merkins, start at 5 Merkins and increase 1 at each lamp post, ending at 14 Merkins.
I think that makes 95 Merkins total.

    Circle up for some Mary.
    LBC’s x 20 IC
    Flutter kicks x 20 IC
    Penguins x 20 IC
    Hello Dolly x 20 IC

Mosey off campus out of City Park to continue the Route 66 down Esplanade Avenue. It’s always nice to take in the sights on Esplanade Avenue as the sun is coming up. It even reminded some of the Grow Ruck. We stop at each lamp post for 10 squats. I don’t know how many lamp posts we stopped at. It felt like a lot. Continue on to Alcee Fortier Park, aka Dog Poo Park by Café Degas.

    Circle up for more Mary.
    Box Cutters x 20 IC
    Dying Cockroach x 20 IC
    Leg Lifts x 20 IC
    Crunchy Frog x 10 IC

Back down Esplanade for more Route 66, heading back to City Park.
Stop at each lamp post for 6 Jump Lunges.

Once safely back inside City Park, we circle up for more Merkins.
Left leg crossover Merkins x 10 IC
    Monkey Humpers x 20 IC
Right leg crossover Merkins x 10 IC

Route 66 back down Lelong Drive to NOMA.
10 Plank Jacks at each lamp post.

Circle up at the NOMA Fountain. Grab some bench.
    Incline Merkins x 10 IC
    10 Box Jumps OYO
    Decline Merkins x 10 IC
Then 5 minutes to stretch the hamstrings.

Mosey back to the flag. Count off, Name-o-rama, named our FNG Gyro (pronounced JI-RO) since he grew up in NOLA next to the Greek Orthodox church, announcements, special intentions, and a prayer. I love the ol’ Route 66. We miss ya #Side FX.
Thanks to FracSac for the picture! And thanks for allowing me to lead!
Oh, and the Irish beat the Hokies 45-23, in case you missed it.

  • The Foundry 9/5/18

A nice traditional workout at the Foundry. A few pull-ups, a few laps, nothing special.
The usual disclaimer and off we go.

    SSH x 20 IC
    Peter Parkers x 20 IC
    Windmills x 10 IC
Arm Circles, 10 forward, 10 backward IC
    Mountain climbers x 20 IC

Then we mosey to the infield of the track for 11’s:
Merkins and squat jumps, run back and forth across the infield.

Mosey to the Foundry for some circuits, stop at each street light for 5 squats.
    Foundry:
Round 1: pull-ups, box jumps, body rows, run to the track (5 burpees) and back

    Mary COP:

Back to the flag for count-off, name-o-rama, announcements, intentions, and a prayer.
Thanks for allowing me to lead!
