  • Challenge excepted

YHC arrived at the Scramble on this chilly Gloom with the idea of challenging the PAX to a faster pace on our 5k journey. In past runs we average between 28-30 mins.. As we chattered about the previous months RRR challenge and how neither of the PAX present have ran since shutting it down on the 28th. A challenge felt right and of course the challenge was excepted eagerly by Steve and Waterpic.. Usually getting right to it, the QIC decided to change it up and get the heart rate going as well as stretching out some of the stiffness before our journey.

    warmup

    20IC SSH

    15IC WM

    15IC GM

    the thang

Off to the races back and forth we take turns as we all are testing to see who is going to establish the actual pace. In the end Steve prevails with his galloping stride, which seems like a horse cornering turn 4 in the Kentucky derby or Preakness for the straight away with victory in sight. Non of the PAX actually timed it but we completed between 24-25 mins with 15 to spare upon returning. QIC decided to get right to the ISI of the day put forth by Turbo. It certainly reminded this YHC how much he dislikes the Burpee but also challenged him to compete as his brethren held him accountable. We then did a series of Merkin balance beam as one man climbed the monkey bars and then balanced crawled across the parallel bars releasing another man until each completed the obstacle. To wrap things up we hit the six for some core. 20IC FM, 20IC leg raise pulses and closed with an 8 count leg raise front/left/right total of 8 using the poles on the swing set for assistance..

Thanks to Waterpic for taking us out in prayer!!

Always enjoy the lead and fellowship with you F3 brothers..

  • Unexpected appearance at the Marsh..

Waking up to downpours, the YHC decided there would be no prethang run to the AO on this Gloom. Upon arrival at the Marsh, I see Captain Sparkles and Waterpic taking advantage of the covered pavilion making laps around the court getting the blood flowing. Captain Sparkles filled with excitement asked “Is Butt Splice Qing?”After letting him down softly the YHC turned to Waterpic who generally post other AOs and asked to what do we deserve the honor of your presence at the Marsh on this Gloom? Simply stated, the kids are off school today. Kudos to the Waterpic, as one could have easily stayed nested in the Sack and caught a little extra rest, but instead posted on this morning of not so ideal conditions to motivate his fellow F3 Brothers.. Definitely a hugh part of why I love being apart of this group of men who inspire this YHC to get up and get after it on Gloom’s like today..

    Let’s begin

15IC GM, 15IC WM, 30IC BK, 30IC SSH, 15IC Arm Circles forward, up high, backdown reverse and  up high to close..

YHC decided the only moisture that would occur today would be sweat equity, so the PAX utilized the court for the beatdown as the rain persisted throughout.

First up we did Merkin suicides 20,15,10,5 and 20.. Started at one baseline with 20 Merkins and then bear crawled to the free throw for 15 Merkins, bear crawled halfcourt for 10 Merkins, bear crawled to other free throw 5 Merkins and completed at the other baseline with 20 Merkins.. After completion we switched to the lower half and journeyed back with the same count with squats and in between leg lunges.. After completing we went through a series of true suicides, forward and back pedal suicides, then lateral down and back, wrapping up with caricoas down and back (2). On the six for some core, 3 sets of 10IC FK into 10IC Lob Lollies as some would say never resting with continuous motion from one to the next.. Next up plankorama. 1 min front, left and right and then back to a 2 min plank front followed by a back plank for a 1 min.. With 10 mins to spare YHC realizing no beatdown would be complete without some Burpees we get back to the baseline for ascending Burpee suicides 2,4,6,8 and 10. To keep with the tradition of a classic the AO leader (Butt Splice) would bring we Bunny hopped between counts.. With 5 mins remaining we gather our bearings returning to the start point and proceed to complete 8 count body builders suicides with a series of 2,4,6,8 and 10. At this point no lagniappe in between just a simple mosey to completion..

    Count, Annoucements, COT

Thanks to Waterpic for praying us out!!

Today was one of those days where the YHC would most certainly not have put in this much work, but because of Captain Sparkles and Waterpic I was able to get through.. Appreciate you gentlemen!!

  • Scramble indeed!!

0425 came and went with your QIC reaching over to his nightstand hitting what he thought was the  snooze. Soon the realization as he reached yet again to see the illumination of his phone showing 0507 and so the Scramble of sorts begins.. Having clothes laid out like he is on fire watch, QIC quickly hops into action throwing on his attire dressing as if a Fire alarm had just rung and there is no time to spare.. Upon arrival through the park I can see what appears like a vehicle of familiarity belonging to the Waterpic. Indeed it is he accompanied by the man himself Steve chattering it up. I proceed down the walk to plant the flag as Waterpic explains the machine Steve has already put in 5 miles on his prethang. Now Steve has mentioned my determination of sorts in running to the AOs in recent Blast, but as you can see this fellow Brother has taken it to yet another extreme in the challenge of this months ISI RRR.. Coming in hot Choppa jumps out the car to join the PAX and we are off and running. QIC took the PAX on the standard route incorporating 5 burst to build a respected pace of 8.24 over 3.3 miles. We return to the AO where I decide to give the PAX a modified version of stretch (yoga)  cool down. Appreciate Chewy’s introduction of this at past Scrambles. With 3 mins to spare we round it out with some Mary. 25IC LBCs, 25IC FKs and 15IC isolated right elbow to left knee crunch and vice versa on the other side.

    countoff, Announcements, COT

Big thanks to Choppa for taking us out in prayer!!

Always enjoy the fellowship and chatter with you men in the Gloom!!

    Thanks for the lead

  • Some are twice the men of others at the Gipper!

QIC arrived at the AO with the welcoming of 2 PAX. Turbo and Einstein who are just as loyal as the Ronald Reagan statue, which stands at attention welcoming all who journey to the home we call the Gipper on Wednesday gloom’s.. The sound of gravel and the closing of doors soon produce 3 more men. Low and behold it’s the Ocho arriving with an (FNG), soon to be named twice the man of his own stature. Welcome to the PAX Sweet Sixteen. Not sure how the Maverick times it out so perfectly, maybe he has an app for the timing of the row of lights on 190 that always seem to slow the QIC for his arrival. The high humidity would soon be assisting on this beatdown with perspiration to make the QIC look like a fitness guru.. Enough rambling, quick disclaimer so let’s get after it..

    warmarama

15 IC GM, 5 Burpees, 15 IC WM, 5 Burpees, 15 IC Overhead hand claps, 5 Burpees, 15 IC Armcircles F/B, 5 Burpees, 15 IC IW, 5 Burpees.

    The thang

Moseyed to the Taj Mahal, the PAX breaks into 3 teams. Partner 1 wall sits while Partner 2 Moseys around the building to back for a slalom shuffle through the parking post and upon return partner 2 duplicates. Next up Sumo Squats while partner journeys and repeats the slalom. Final alternating leg lunges and closing with the slalom. Indian run to the parking garage for our next missio. PAX line up at the bottom partner 1 back sprints halfway up turns and sprints while partner 2 does plank jacks. Arrival at the top partner 1 does plank jacks awaiting the arrival of partner 2. R/R backdown and up again. After completion needing some O2 the QIC request (2) 10 counts. Thanks for the proper count Ocho and Maverick. Next we sprint up as a PAX to the first ramp and Caricoa across the flats sprint up the second and Caricoa across the top flat rotating legs of course for a balance of sorts. Arriving at the top we use the parking strips 7 total for bear crawl partner 1 and Merkins partner 2 and then partner 2 proceeds to bear crawl while partner 1 does Merkins R/R. Mosey down to the courthouse corridor of sorts for a little obstacle course. Partner 1 doing FKs while partner 2 sprints to steps catching each step to the top, drop for 5 Burpees, down the right steps to the bench for 5 box jumps, back to relieve your partner. Next partner 1 does LBCs while partner 2 sprints and up the steps, drops for 5 Burpees, down the left handicap ramp and slaloms trough parking curbs. With 4 mins remaining we Mosey back to the flag for 3 mins of Mary.

    25IC MC, 15IC Parker Peters and 15Peter Parker’s..

Appreciate the men of the Gipper for indulging me on this Humid Gloom!! 👍👊

  • No show Tortoise and The Hares!!

Awoke this morning to heavy morning dew and fog lingering. Decided to get in a little pre-thang before the Scramble to make sure I keep pace with the rest of the Northshore Gazelles. Challenges seem to bring the best out of these men and the RRR has surly sparked some impressive numbers thus far. As I journeyed along with the pre-thang,  jamming to some tunes my phone begins to ring at 0455. First  thought entering the mind is it must be one of seal team 6s men calling for a location to join in on the pre Mosey. Or could it be Turtle calling to let one know he has hit the snooze button one to many times and a Fart Sack was inevitably going to be the end result.. With only part of my first 2 assumptions coming to pass, I notice it’s Backdraft calling to confirm the locale of the morning beatdown. I am inspired by the self discipline and drive you have as a young man to arise extra early knowing your  journey to the AO is 30 mins at minimum. And what’s even more inspiring is that Low Brass is along for the ride. Let’s  face it not many men or young men when presented with the option of being on a holiday week enjoying the comforts of rest would choose to arise so early and get in some work before the rooster crows and welcome it with such passion and Hare like abilities.. So, if you two would so kindly indulge this tortoise of a runner to join in, it would be much appreciated.

Our journey begins on the standard route at a hare like pace and thoughts quickly run through my mind.. Can I keep up? Will these young men lap me? Can you push them as much as they push you? Well, the end result is the tortoise and The Hares completed the 3.2 in what seemed like a shooting star pace (at least to me) and arrived back to the AO with 20 mins to spare.. Decided to head over to the monkey bars for descending order pull-ups 12/10/8/6/4/2 with 12 Merkins and 20 TRX swing pulls bets each set of pull-ups. Closed out with some Mary. 25IC LBCs, 25IC FK and 25IC Freddy Mercuries..

    countoff, announcements, COT

Thank you for your inspiration on this Gloom!!

Surly would not have achieved on my own!!

  • Modified Monday Marsh

The Q decided to rise a little earlier to get some miles in by running to the AO. As I arrived to an empty court I could only wonder if this would be a beatdown of loneliness or if more brothers would be arriving. 0505 and no one in sight so the lone Q decided to modify a little beatdown. Let’s get to it..

    25 pull-ups

15 staggered right, 15 staggered left, 30 regular Merkins R/R

    50 LBCs, 50 FK, 50 Hello Dollies

Then the sighting of 2 F3 brothers getting in some road work.. Steve and EiEi journey past the AO. Later the Q is informed of how one hit 10 miles and the other hit 16 miles… Great job men!!

  • “We call that Lagniappe”

Some may boil crawfish and add a little extra salt, other’s may barbecue adding some extra sauce. Then there are some who after a long work week stop at the Barley oak for a refreshing cold brew on tap with some friends to chatter about the upcoming weekend and quickly realize they may have had a few too many and soon make the call to Uber for a safe journey home… Or it could be those who meet at an AO for 0445 on a Friday Gloom for the weekly 10k, but soon become overachievers raising the bar just so slightly higher.. For all of you out there reading this Blast, here in south Luzianna “We Call that Lagniappe!”

Rolled in about 0440 with no one in sight thinking, hey if know one shows I will get out there and knock this thing out… NOT sorry Captain Sparkles if that would disrespect the Cove but the temp was in the low 50s with Gail force winds ripping somewhere near 15-20 and this 6% was struggling with the possibility of being a Lone Ranger… Wait a second Shooter, do you truly think your fellow F3 brothers are considering not posting to give you that opportunity? 🤔🤣 Not a chance as Steve turns in from Lakeshore Drive shortly followed by Carpool and then a sighting of Bushwacker rolling down Jackson street coming in Hot right on time…

We count off,  say a quick prayer and off we go.. The Q took the PAX up Jackson to the Trailhead journeying a path he had taken the PAX on some weeks back.. Remembering the last time upon returning we had to journey past the AO down Lakeshore for a little extra to hit the 6.2 miles. However, on this Gloom the QIC threw in the loop from Thursday’s AO to get the extra required before returning and that’s where the confusion sets in. As Carpool and I turn back down Jackson off the Trailhead he brings to my attention that we have hit the 10k mark. So as we complete the run the distance comes in officially at 7.04 miles completed at  an hour and five minutes with a pace around 9 flat.. Great job gentleman, way to get in some lagniappe this morning.. Now Bushwacker head home and get some much needed lagniappe in other matters that I need not elaborate on 😬…

    Appreciate the lead👊!!

  • Intentional milestone achieved at the Marsh!!

Arising on this Gloom the QIC received a GroupMe message from a fellow F3 Brother. It simply stated “Why am I here at 4:45AM???” The response could have been because your Qing, but wait that’s not the case. Or it’s Friday at Captains cove where only above average men and 6 percenters meet, nah its Monday.. Maybe it’s we are meeting in a dark commercial parking lot to carpool to another AO for an official launch wayward west… Actually non of the above, however there would be a milestone achievement set forth on this Monday at the Marsh with more than just 1 PAX posting. Although the QICs anticipation of being the Lone Ranger on this Gloom and having the benefit of slipping in getting a little work done and retreating back to the oh so comfortable Sack was surly his intention, one  Bushwacker had spoiler written all over it… With that said let’s begin..

    warmup

    15 IC GM, WM

25 IC SSH, IW, Arm press Jacks

    15 IC Arm circles Forward/Reverse

    the thang

To the monkey bars for a series of 10,8,6,4,2 pull-ups and dips followed by 10 elevated swing crunch’s per round. Over to the court for some Merkin suicides as Wacker stated. Consisted of right leg and left leg up Merkin followed by bear crawl 2 steps to half court. QIC quickly realized his overly aggressive intentions when after 4 sets he had journeyed a distance of less desired proportions and quickly modified to 4 steps on the bear crawl.. Brief recovery at half court, then continued the format of a staggered Merkin left/right 4 step bear crawl till completion. Feeling the effects of a Dwayne Johnson (the Rock) chest at this point the QIC shifted to the lower half. Squats to lunge walk each leg down the court and back. Next to the benches for  a Steve series of Bulgarian split squats 10IC each leg followed by the Freak nasty 15IC R/R.. With 9min to go shifted to the Core at center court. 1 min front plank, 25 IC FK, 1 min Right side plank, 25 IC LBCs, 1 min Left side plank, 10 IC Right side crunch and finished with 10 IC Left side crunch.. Completion!

One can’t thank Bushwacker enough for posting and  keeping this YHC accountable, not only to himself  but also to the AO.. What we have on the Northshore is unique in so many ways. We have 6 days of NO excuse workouts for men in all shapes and areas of fitness.. The only hangup this Q sees is the hangup within ourselves, and I for one can see how easy and tempting it often is, but when you have that F3 Brother holding you accountable the likelyness of that occurring quickly becomes the 94 percentile..

count off (great sound effects Wacker), Announcements (not today), COT (if a circle is possible with 2)

    QIC prayed us out.

Appreciate the post Bushwacker and the great chatter!! I will be on alert for that Blue moon on Wednesday at the Gipper..

  • A change of scenery at the Scramble!!!-

As I strolled through the park to the courthouse the QIC noticed (2) F3 Brothers waiting for his arrival. Carpool and Watepic have become a staple at the Thursday AO and are two men this QIC count on for keeping him accountable to Post..  I planted the shovel flag and joined in the conversation, but as I scanned the parking area looking for a fellow named Turtle, I quickly realized he had made his star studded return Tuesday at Grandmas House and this Gloom we would NOT be welcomed again with his presence.. 0515 and gotta respect the time so let’s begin gentleman. 25 SSH IC and upon completion here comes someone rolling in hot, could it be the one who committed the night before to posting? Nah… But it was Choppa who had stated Tuesday he would be returning to the Scramble, so welcome back Choppa glad to have you back.  25 Merkins OYO followed by 25 IW IC. Set out for the run considering wether or not to bring the burst back, but decided to stick with routine on the Mosey. The PAX did however Journey a different path on this chilly Gloom passing up Waterpics dark, warm and comfortable looking home along the way.. I am sure the temptation was there for him to stop and cuddle backup for a quick snooze, but he did of course mention that, had he known we would pass this way he could have snoozed a little longer and jumped in along the way.. As we Moseyed Choppa educated us men on the PT guidelines for The Few, The Proud, The Marines.  Which consists of 23 dead hang pull-ups, obstacle course high and low crawl carrying 30 pound ammo cans across a field, fireman’s carry a fellow Marine with in 10 lbs of ones weight, 120 crunches in under 2 mins and I thought I heard a half mile run at what would be a 5:30 mile pace and I am sure I am missing something… Gentleman, and that of course is why they call them The Few and The Proud.. Completion 3.5 miles total finishing with an avg. 8.57 pace back at the AO. With 10 to spare  the PAX headed to the Monkey bars for descending pull-ups 8,6,4,2. Between each set doing 10 Merkins and 10 Elevated Swing crunches.. For completion hit our six for a little Mary. 25 IC LBCs followed by 25 IC FK and wrapped up with a 1 min low plank…

Appreciate you men posting on this chilly Gloom and allowing me to lead!!

    Count off, announcements, COT

Thanks to Carpool for praying us out!!

  • Grandmas house has a new norm when it comes to attire!!

Grandmas house has been changed by the appearance of leggings, beanies, gloves, sweatshirts, jogging pants, etc. in recent weeks.. The harsh winter weather on the Northshore has also hampered the turnouts to many locations, which in the past has seen upwards of 10 plus men on a weekday Gloom…. In past experience of being locked into a contract of the cosmetic facilities, I would always notice the high turnout for the New Years. However, with F3 I have seen a decline at most AOs with the exception of the Gipper. So I pose a question or two for my past and future F3 brothers.. Is it the weather? If so, then purchase some beanies, gloves, leggings, etc. and show up. Is it the price we pay? Doubtful, because as we all know it’s FREE and only requires 45 min of our day (much cheaper and less time consuming than the cosmetic facilities). So if your still reading this and haven’t posted in awhile let’s start packing the AOs once again and keep the commitment into the New year.. Statistics show 12% of all memberships for any given facility come in Jan. but it actually represents a 35-50% increase in volume and by the second week in Feb. only 20% of that increase remain committed. Also the cosmetics sell memberships with the intention of only 18% actually using them. Meaning there is a 1 in 5 chance you will actually use it consistently for longer than a month… Let’s not be a statistic my F3 brothers… Get out there beanies and all. No matter what the conditions, know that your body and mind will thank you.. And the F2 and chatter will be lagniappe as we like to say..
