“There are a great many people in the country today, who through no fault of their own, are sane.” – MP Flying Circus

So filling in for Landing Strip, mosey around a bit to the field in front of the zoo:

    • 20 SSH
    • 12 Arm Circles Fwd
    • 10 Peter Parkers w/ Mericans
    • 12 Tantric Arm Circle in reverse

Bones requested Maracas so over to the lipid pool where we gathered bricks, closest thing to Maracas. Paired up. One ran to the Audubon Statue and back, the other did series of exercises at each light (curls, shoulder presses, and goblet squats. ) bear crawling between lights. Everyone did 2 laps back and forth.

Mosey to shelter for Dips, LLSU, incline Mericans, RL SU, Shoulder Taps, LLPUP, Dips, RLPOWER Ups, 10 box jumps on own, back to flag for quick Mary.

  • Barbara Walter’s 20/20 Special

    Twas the night after 19

The Q slept snockered in his sack when there are arose such a clammer

His neighbors returning in such an early morning stammer.

With duty in mind he transformed from a board into a a leaping lord!

Away to Audubon he sojourned to confront the coming horde

Hoping the barbarians would be nil!

He found 4 hungry packs looking for their fill!

With no plan or blanky to follow, the Q was showed himself to be quite hollow!

But 20/20 would not wallow! Side Stradle did they hop, arm circles were no flop. Mountain climbers to a new height! The BLIMPS burpees did not bite. Onward and upward they found some bricks in these rep were no new tricks. Away flew the gas from the PAX morning ass, oh did the birds and trees wither, no would dare dither!

To the notional flag our Q and pax returned, for pull ups and Mary by call, it was no fun for all!

    Alas the time was nye!

In COT Thoughts of comparing religions and ideas for 2020 by Father Krister Stendhalk

When you are trying to understand another person or idea, you should ask that person or adherents of that idea and not its enemies.

Don’t compare your best to their worst.

Leave room for “holy envy.” (You should be willing to recognize elements in the other religious tradition or faith that you admire and wish could, in some way, be reflected in your own religious tradition or faith.)

  • Never Over Macho Grande

Seaman was the Q. He brought us in real low. But he couldn’t handle it.

THE GLOOMBuddy couldn’t handle it. Was Buddy one of your crew?

PAX: Right. Buddy was the bombardier. But it was the Q who couldn’t handle it, and he went to pieces.

THE GLOOM: Andy went to pieces?

PAX No. Andy was the navigator. He was all right. Buddy went to pieces. It was awful how he came unglued.

    THE GLOOM Howie came unglued?

PAX: Oh, no. Howie was a rock, the best tailgunner in the outfit. Buddy came unglued.

THE GLOOM: And he bailed out?

PAX: No. Andy hung tough. Buddy bailed out. How he survived, it was a miracle.

    THE GLOOM: Then Howie survived?

PAX: No, ‘fraid not. We lost Howie the next day.

    THE GLOOM: Over Macho Grande?

PAX: No. I don’t think I’ll ever get over Macho Grande. Those wounds run…pretty deep.

We ran around, we sweated, we did elevens. Then we did some other stuff that if you didn’t show up for you really missed a great time and we really don’t have time to go over.

  • Impromptu

The rule of thumb is “Plan for the expected. Prepare for the unexpected!” Seems the unexpected has besieged us more than our traditional morning strolls in the park. Today was one more of those days. Q was unconfirmed and a no show, so YHS, picked up the shovel and dug ourselves into a hole.

Quick mosey into a warm up, SSH (do we know anything else), Imperial Walker Squats (it had been a while), Arm Circles Seamen Style, 10 Burpees OYO as King Kong counted arm circle in an offensive matter. Quick survey of those registered for Iron Pax Challenge, all but Nip Tuck have registered. So for Nip Tuck 10 more Burpees OYO. Back to the track and mosey.

At the Row Bars we broke into 5 groups of 5. The count was 10 Peter Parkers with an Merican in between each knee to elbow, 2 was 1. Meanwhile a group did squats, lunges, rows, and russian twist.

We continued to mosey, on ways for a ring of fire. Did Mericans in sets of 10, setting it around the circle in both directions from YHS.

Back to the track with alternating Sprint and Mosey between the running men to the fountain. As YHS was gimping along, requested the fastest of the pride come sweep up the six. Around the fountain we gathered for some One leg and Opposite Leg step ups, Dips, and Declined Mericans x10 w/ Shoulder Taps 2 is 1 x10.

Back to the to Sprint and Mosey to the Mary Green as before. Hello Dolly, Rosalita, Box Cutters, J-Lo / Pickle Pounder, and Doctor W (Jingle Vader your presence was needed).

We attempted an Indian Run to the pull up bars. In the process we ran down two group of ladies running. It is never our intention but I have been told we can be like fat people on a SouthWest flight. Where the fat bodies sit in a row, lift the middle arm rest up and dare you to sit next to them. When we are doing 2 lines of IR we need remember to share the track. In this instance we did a poor job of sharing. The first duo completely freaked out almost began to cower swallowed by the passing pax , the second group of 4 or 5 also freaked but joined in liked the idea of an Indian run.

Wanted another pearl but we were running out of time so proceeded to the flag and COT.

The work out blew! Not original! Not Exciting! But we got it done. We were prepared because we planned pushed ourselves previously in the gloom. As you prepare for your next Q, next Sad Clown meeting, next lunch, I challenge you to ask yourself what could go wrong and make your plan for what you will do. The situation will make you a HIM!

  • Ren & Stimpy

As it is Tuesday, the book of Revit says Burpees are acceptable, however, still unpleasant, so we began with 10 OYO. Mosey uptown to the parks edge looping back to Tulane and Gibson Quad for a warm-up circle.

Circle 1: SSH x 20, Arm Circles Forward & Reverse, Peter Parkers*x10 (Pace Car / Alamo Style), Russian Twist x 20

*So last Friday at the Mountain, Pace Car from San Antonio was doing his Peter Parkers differently than we do. Our version is more bow legged mountain climber. Pace Car did that but with a Merican in between each rise of the leg!

Moseyed on to the Navy building where we broke up into 2 groups Alpha and Omega. Omega did pull ups while Alpha journeyed into the Navy Building to get the log! T-Claps to #SeaBiscuit for the assist. Returned to the pull up bars, gave the log to Omega group to carry it over to LBC quad. Alpha stayed behind to do a max set then joined Omega at the quad.

Circle 2: BLIMPS increments of 10. While one group BLIMP’d the other took the log around the quad.

Following BLIMPS we were tight on time but attempted 1-2-3. 50 Big Boy situps with the log while the other group ran to the opposite side of the quad then 100 chest presses. Wanted to do shoulder presses but out of time.

Returned the log to the COT.

*It’s give NOLA day and YOUTHNOLA Run was there raising the bar. We all do a lot in our goal to make a difference. Some mentor with Son of a Saint, YOUTHNOLA, and CAFE HOPE, please consider!

  • 2 is 1

It was a cold 40 so a PSA from Brown Bag Below 57 longs sleeves, below 50 pants and hat.

Quick mosey to the Zoos mud field and warm up of SSH, Mountain Climbers, Parker Peters.

We then formed into a line and did BLIMPS 5,10,15,… to the parking lot and back. As a group finished our squats we headed closer to the Zoo from some DORA.

    The DORA 2 is 1;

100 Decline Mericans w/ Shoulder Taps (2 is 1 for taps) Thank you Tinkles!

200 Power Ups Left and Right (2 legs are 1)

    300 Russian Twist (2 is 1)

Quick 20 dips then back to the flag or final minute of LBCs, Box Cutters, and Pickle Pounders.

  • Poor Prior Proper Planning Looses the FNG

Who reads the emails? Who looks at the Q list? Let me tell you who does…Saban does!
Saban looks out for his buddy

Well I can tell you that YHC completely missed the boat on this and had to improvise. While we might admire those who can do things on the fly, or just around Aububon, not having a plan can have unfortunate consequences.

So 21 maybe 22 pax head out, include FNG Carlton,

    Quick Warm Up

    Imperial Walkers x 20
Forward And Reverse Arm Circles x 20
    Peter Parkers x 20
    Mericans x10

Mosey to say hi to the cinder block and back to Oak Ally for a round of BLIMPS 5/10/15/20/25

Mosey on to the row bars and the train runs off the tracks. Unsure how many pax we have, unable to employ gray matter to do long division the situation quickly deteriorated into mockery of the Q…all of which was justified!

    Count was rows x 15
    Pickle Pounders
    Squats
    Lunges
    Mericans

Mosey down the path for 3 rounds of Circle of Fire. Pax mentioned something about the FNG with much harumph.

Across the golf course to the usual green from a call out of Mary.
    LBCs
    Doctor Ws
    RFM
    Russian Twist

Indian run to the pull up bars, learning from the row bars we moved better and faster.

Dips were the count x 15
    Squats
    Lunges
    Pull Ups

On to the circle, only then did pax point out that we lost the FNG. Nothing on Uptown Messenger but know your pax and remember to sweep your 6. Big reminder to YHC you don’t have to write it down on your blankey but you do need a plan. Also when we have the FNG we need to keep them engaged and make sure one of the Pax is looking out for them and encouraging them.

  • A Michigander pays his debts…

With cinder blocks dominating the past and burpees in yhc imminent future this gloom must deviate.

A simple mosey out and about, the pax had no interest in a pearl in the pond so we continued on to the holy grass.

Arm Circles forward & reverse 10×10
    Mountain Climbers x20
    Peter Parkers x20

Mosey to the mountain, back pedal up the inclines and sprint the straightaways. On the riverside turns Russian Twist, lakeside turns Leg Lifts with a thrust, good idea @Fracsac! First round 10 each increasing by 10 at each level. At the end total came to 150 Russian Twists, and 150 leg lifts with a thrust.

At the top of the last incline we posted for some angled work
    Inclined LBCs x20
    Decline Mericans x 10
    Declined Pickle Pounders x20

Mosey back to the bottom and to the benches
    RLSU x 20
    LLSU x 20
    Dips with a hold x10
    RLPU x 20
    LLPU x 20

    Mosey back to the flag

We had a new Holy Name dad, Chuck Smith, who is a ND alum. Unlike his fellow alum whom yhc owes a debt of burpees (41) Rudy didn’t show up so I got to take out my angst about last weekend’s ND vs M tilt and dubbed Chuck, Smick Chick.

  • Stepping Up

Does a back blast need to be timely? Just needs to prove we did something.

In every circle we talk about getting better, pushing ourselves and each other to get better. To be better husbands, fathers, and leaders. I hear it all the time. It’s great, Leadership is aspirational! But it also requires action towards that end. Without action is is just a platitude.

I’m a Michigan man and over the last week I’ve been bothered by the OSU situation. The dust has yet to settle and this is probably today’s cherry on our national discourse. But I’m disappointed in the failure of leadership to hold to a principle and make something happen. When I look at the pax of F3 I see great things, and I have renewed hope.

Yankee was being a little self critical about the long email he sent out the night before. Long or short I love the emails. F3 just doesn’t happen, guys step up and make things happens quietly and in the greatest of ways. Every AO has a guy keeping the schedule going, they just do it and don’t make a big deal about. In the last email Yankee reiterated what I have been hearing around the flag for a few weeks now. If people want a new AO, step up, dedicate yourself to Qing it and it will happen. Step up and take action. Enough of the pontification…

Started with standard circle, with arm circles reverse and forward, did some peter parkers, burpees and moseyed to the mountain.

Started on level 2, on that gloomy muggy day. We lunged up the inclines, dashed (faster than a mosey slower than a sprint) to the turn where we did 15 Mericans. Rinse and repeat all the way to the top.

At the top we did BLIMPS but with a 1 level down lap in between each exercise.

Down the chute to the benches for some dips, decline Mericans, and some more dips.

Mosey over to the softest grass for some call out Mary (Russian Twist, Hello Dollys, Pickle Pounders, and something else to round out the time.

Finished at the flag on time with a sweaty ball of man.

  • Boom Chuga Luga Luga Boom

    What rolls down stairs
    alone or in pairs,
    and over your neighbor’s dog?

Well the PAX would soon find out! With a tardy pushed we ventured into an uncharted sea of possibilities. In the shadow of the Wolfpack Mountain we sojourned into the quads of Tulane.

A warm up of Pete Parkers x21, Burpees x10, Arm Circles Forward and Reverse x21, SSH x21.

We then moseyed on across Frerret to the Navy Building for pick up an FNG and our new toy

    What’s great for a snack,
    And fits on your back?
    It’s log, log, log

Courtesy of the Naval ROTC unit we borrowed their log the mornings workout.

We broke up into 3 groups of 5.

Next we proceeded to do an Indian run where group 3 picked up the log and chased down groups 1&2, pass the log to group 2 then sprinting ahead of group 1. We did this all the way down McCalister to the Riley Center where we turned around and continued back to the engineering quad. Running proved to be a challenge but each group organized themselves quickly. Tclaps Wiley, the shortest of the lot, quickly realized we need to line up tallest to shortest if we were going to achieve anything and that went a long way to get everyone moving better.

In the quad we rotated through using the log. First round we did log presses x 20, while the waiting groups did Mericans,
Second round we did log situps x20, while the waiting groups also did situps
Third and Fourth round was Log Shoulder Presses x 20, while the waiting groups did air presses during the 3rd round, and lunges during the 4th.

After wards Saban led a Circle of Marry while the 3rd group ran the log home to the Navy building. When the Pax were all reunited a quick pickle pounder and then mosey back to the flag.

At the circle we had 2 FNGs to add to Uptown vs the World Air Bag & Soup Kitchen

Inspiration for the workout came from the Art of Manliness which has posted the FM21-20 Army’s Field Manual for Log Training Manual from 1946
