YHC found the Swerkin on F3 Nashville’s site, it seems to be a staple over there. Pretty simple beatdown today, but difficult. Most of us got to around 15-20 reps, but still had some great conversations. Shooter told us about his trip to San Diego and the awesome weather, wishing we had the same here at the Marsh this morning. Great work today guys.

    – The new coupons staged at the View are the real deal, feel free to come and critique them for yourself.
    – It was a requirement to be joyful during the beat down, but we didn’t do enough burpees. We should have done more burpees. Who voted me MVP anyway?? The bat wings we did have gone wasted without burpees. I’m a total disappointment.

  • Rucking and Heisenbergs – from Hokie

After a disclaimer and focus on our credo & mission statement… we 5 Ruckers moseyed towards the Treasure Chest with our rucks, a 60# Sandy bag and two 50# sand bags. Every 4 minutes we stopped and did 10 seal burpees aka Heisenberg’s… after 5 rounds west, we returned the 5 rounds back. Just over a mile and 100 Heisenberg’s later we returned to watch some “A” steal my coconut water and threaten to steal my car.

We closed and lifted him up in COT

  • How are you, my F3 Brother? Really, how are you? – from Hokie

Copied from F3 Suncoast Ripken except I replaced his phone number with mine

Please read…. One of the guys in F3 MeCa took his own life this past week. He seemingly had it all together, and no one realized he was mentally struggling. He reached out to a few pax/friends, but his request didn’t seem important. Guys suck a communicating…I know I do at times.

I don’t want to ever hear this story from anyone I know, most of all from F3 NOLA. Therefore, read these words of wisdom from their Nantan. Get one accountability partner; better yet, start your Shieldlock today. If you ever want to talk, I’m here. My cell is tel: 504.417.9382.

Start by taking the DRP and showing up at a beatdown this week somewhere. I don’t care if you’re injured or have some beef or don’t like mornings, F3 is more than a workout, and while we were all Sad Clowns at one point, we’re not going back there. Ask the guy next to you if he’s ok, and don’t accept “fine” for an answer; call some guy you haven’t seen in a while. And know, in the words of Frac, “I love you!”

I wanted to share some words posted by one of MeCa’s site Qs this week after what was a tough weekend for the Men of MeCa.

“Some of us get up and make the donuts, in MeCa we’re now all about “Being the Medicine”
“Guys, it was an emotional weekend for us all. We aren’t designed by the Creator to do life alone. I heard and read different men this weekend talk about their medication. For some, their medication is chemical. For some, F3 is their medication. For others, both are their medication.

I’m no doctor or psychologist or therapist, but the way I see it, we all fall into two different categories, and can even bounce in and out of each category.

Cat A: you need the medication.

F3 can be a form of medication that can help if you let it. I fall into this category. You’ve heard me talk a few times about how challenging it is for my wife and I with our younger daughter and her many issues. I see a huge difference in how I handle it on days I show up to F3 and days I don’t.

Cat B: You are the medication.

That’s right, you may not know it, but you are a vital reason that F3 is someone’s medication. The more of us that show up, the better the medication dose is for the ones that need it. I recognize that I fall into this category too. There are days, like last Monday, I didn’t want to get up. I decided to anyway, and was glad I did, as there were only 3 of us that day at the Dawghouse.

I am reminded of Chapter 4 of the book of Ecclesiastes: “Two people are better off than one, for they can help each other succeed. If one person falls, the other can reach out and help. But someone who falls alone is in real trouble. Likewise, two people lying close together can keep each other warm. But how can one be warm alone?

A person standing alone can be attacked and defeated, but two can stand back-to-back and conquer. Three are even better, for a triple-braided cord is not easily broken.”

So I ask this of you all:

Come out this week and get your medication.
Come out this week and be the medication.

    SYITG…hopefully tomorrow!

    HOKIE out.

  • Five Flavored Sunday – from Fracsac

5 strong at the Renaissance looking for a challenge. Hot and humid, no surprise for August in Nola.

The shovel flag was planted, followed by curses to the fire ants which vigorously defended their home on the ankles of YHC. Triple Shift, Vagabond, Abacus, and Hokie looked on amused at the spectacle, or debacle maybe….

Disclaimer given, then a mosey to the steps of NOMA facing the bacon.

    Warmup

    SSH IC x 31
    Grass Grabbers IC x 10
    Abe Vigodas IC x 10
    Hillbillies IC x 15
    Bat wings IC x 15

Run a lap around NOMA in a column with last man sprinting to the front.

Mosey to grassy area by the lake for some EMOM. A wise man once said that he read a life hack book that said you could cut your exercise down to 4 minutes per day if you just did a 4 minute tabata of burpees. Since we have 45 minutes, we modified it to a 5 minute EMOM of 50 burpees. After a month of Heisenberg Seal burpees, a 5 minute EMOM was almost too easy.
Single column run with sprints to the Foundry, handing off the speaker like a baton. That’s right, YHC brought the jams!

Stations at the Foundry with a little bit of this, some of that, and then ran back to our little grassy area for another 5 minute EMOM of 50 more burpees. Most would have called it there and then as the hack book insinuated, but not this group. Mosey to the back of NOMA for some Sunday Mornings with Eye of the Tiger playing. It was pretty inspiring. I’m pretty sure I saw Triple Shift shadow boxing.

    COT

    – YHC is convinced one can’t call it a beat down without at least 70 burpees. We did 100. That’s not plutonium level work, but it’s something!
    – If you’re wondering what a Heisenberg Seal burpee is, and I know you are, it’s a burpee with 2 ‘mericans. Sounds easy, right? Heisenberg and YHC did 2535 each in July. What are you doing in August to challenge yourself?
    – You should try a Sunday post if your schedule allows. It’s a great way to start the week. If you have to prepare for your sermon, or just can’t get away from CBS Sunday Morning, that’s understandable. I get it.

My ask to each of you is to reach out to a fellow Pax and ask them how they’re doing. Not some “how ya doin’” greeting, rather a sincere “How are you doing?” Then listen.

  • Alvin Kamara LITE – from Waterpik

Scrounge around the garage for some coupons and emerge with a punching bag, a kettle bell, and some empty large pool chlorine buckets. There are some Alvin Kamara offseason training videos floating around you tube and this was an exceptionally weak attempt at replicating his workout.

    Here’s what happened.
Strap a rope to the punching bag and drag it to the shaft on the Lakefront and back. Each Pax completed that at least once.

YHC filled the chlorine buckets with water. Each pax competed step ups on the seawall and well as carrying the buckets the the street and back.

Use the kettle bell for 50 reps of American hammer.

Cot and thanks for letting me lead. Thanks to true coat for praying is out.

  • 8-Count EVERYTHING? Some proof of concept. – from Catfish

Sultry morning with four PAX (and Rudy, who was running somewhere in the park during all the fun). Started with a mosey around the great lawn with some high knees, butt kicks, side steps (high and low), karaoke, etc. Moved into the lawn and formed a goodly square for:

    SSH x20
    Abe vigodas x12
    Grassy Grabbers x12
    Imperial Squat Walkers x20
    The Motivator (descending from 10)

    Moved to faces for:

8-count merkins (4-count down, 4 count up, nice and slow and grinding) x 10
    Peter Parker Peters x 15

    Back to feet for:

    8-count low slow squats (4-count down, 4-count up) x15

Back to faces for plyo merks, as many as PAX could do in a minute.

Bear-crawled over to the sidewalk, then lined up for a round of “sevens” (admittedly, I was originally planning on elevens, but it was fudging hot out there). Exercises were burpees and 8-counts, with a bonus of 5 jump squats whenever PAX crossed midfield. Finished up with some LBCs on the sidelines once everyone was done.

Moseyed over to the steps on the side of the museum for:

    8-count calf raises (4-count up, 4-count down) x10
    Toes-in calf raises (reg. 4-cadence) x20
    Toes-out calf raises (reg. 4-cadence) x20a

    Moseyed to fountain for:

    8-count R-leg power-ups (4-count up, 4-coutn down) x15
8-count derkins (same cadence as above) x 10 (sucked)
    8-count L-leg power ups x15
    8-count dips x10

Mosyed back to flag for CoT. Announcements were House-a-Thon next Friday, November 12 GoRuck Tough.

Coffeeteria NOT at Navarre, which was closed due to staffing issues, but at PJ’s on Canal, where absolutely NO free refills are given. Stingy Bastards.

Count-o-rama, Akbar leads us out with a prayer.

Thanks guys. Always fun to lead.
