  • Rush and the Giant – from Fast Tax

It was a pleasantly coolish morning as eight Pax manned-up to start the week appropriately at Rock City, eagerly anticipating what YHC had in store.
After disclaimer, we headed to the rock pile.

    Warmups consisted of:
    o Abe Bagodas X 10 IC
    o Matt Biondis X 20 IC
    o Seal Jacks X25 IC
o Mountain Man Poopers X10 IC
    o Swan Dives X 10 IC

After med-heavy rock selections, we headed to the field.
The first exercise was Fee-Fi-Fo-Fum, starting on the line with your rock.
Each Pax performed the following sequence OYO: Squat, double arm shotput rock, broad jump toward rock, lunge the remaining distance, pick up and overhead press rock, and repeat the sequence for 40ish yards, then, turn around and repeat back to the starting point.

Colt 45s (basically a broken down curl) were next, with rock IC: 15 reps go from the bottom of the movement up to the halfway point (with your arms at a 90 degree angle and hands at elbow level). 15 reps go from the halfway point up to the top of the bicep curl (hands up near shoulder level). 15 reps Start at the bottom of the movement and complete a full range of movement all the way up.

Captain Thor followed, a 1:4 ratio of BBS to American Hammer, performed OYO, increasing by 1:4 each rep (i.e. ending with 10 BBS and 40 Amer Hammer).

The Red Barchetta was the next event (should have been done to the musical accompaniment of Rush’s 1981 hit – Red Barchetta if YHC had remembered to bring his phone).
Sequence OYO but plank after each sequence until last Pax completes:
o 100 yard dash, 100 SSH, run back to goal line
o 75 yard dash, 75 mountain climbers (2 is 1), run back to goal line
o 50 yard dash, 50 BBS, run back to goal line
o 25 yard dash, 25 merkins, run back to goal line
o 10 yard dash, 10 Burpees, run back to goal line

Then it was back to the rock pile.

With a little time to spare, YHC thought a little absolution would be good for everybody…make that 15 Absolutions OYO followed by 5 burpees (for Fracsac) and a mosey back to the flag for COT.

    Thanks for the fellowship!

  • For Gabby – Kicking Covid 19 in the Teeth – from Hokie

3 Pax enjoyed the pleasant morning temps, low humidity, gentle breeze and The View!

Unfortunately we were missing our Q du Jour, Gabby, as he is down with Covid, so I decided to step up, step in and honor him by a Covid 19 beatdown.

    Warm ups
    SSH x 19
    Arm circles forward x 19
    Arm circles backwards x 19
    Low slow squats x 19

    The Thang
Since this is the 4th surge, we will complete 4 rounds with 4 stops

    1. Start at the street
19 slow shoulder presses with the coupon focusing on form to make Triple Shift proud

    2. Rifle carry up path to the top where we stopped for 19 cross over merkins, ensuring our chest made contact with the block.

    3. Rifle carry down the levee path to the lake front path and stop to admire The View with 19 curls. Once again focusing on form, straight back, no sway, block making contact with thighs and chest.

    4. Rifle carry back up levee path where on top we stopped for 19 chest presses. Slow again focusing on full extension at top and elbows making contact with the path at the bottom.

Rifle carry back to the street to complete Round 1.

Rinse & repeat as a group for 4 rounds since this is the 4th surge.

Oh, this is the View, so, to make Frac proud, we did Burpees as planes went over head… 5, then 5, then 5,….then 4 for 19 😉

We are stronger for having done this!

COT – we lifted up Gabby and all those who are sick, including Covid and Cancer (Thoughts & prayers to T Square and his M!!!)

We also gave gratitude for F3, our current leadership and those who will show up Tuesday night to investigate potentially stepping up as part of our Shared Leadership Team moving forward!

  • My Friend aNDy – from Rudy

YHC brought his friend, aNDy, and a playlist out to Swolefest to start the week off right

16 PAX circled up in the gloom. That was a bit more than YHC had expected, so I went digging under LCM to find a “friend” for aNDy: the “Block-and-a-half” that the Swolefest guys seem to either Love or Hate (depends on who you ask).

Quick warmup with some stretching, SSH, IW, and Peter Parkers. Then we’ll get jiggy with it…

    The Thang:

First, introduce our two friends. Mall Cop and Cracklin’ generously volunteered to be guinea pigs. They were instructed to lift our friends above their heads (no elbow locking!). Now the PAX were informed that those two coupons were not to come below eye level for the rest of the workout, or there would be burpees. So Mall Cop and Cracklin’ continued to hold them up high while YHC slowly explained the rest of the workout.

    First, lets start the playlist:

Amnesty: I hope this one was a bit more acceptable than the last one (though 80s classic rock only made one appearance via INXS).

Tabata workout. 10 exercises. 45 seconds on, 15 seconds rest/transition. Repeat 3 times. Alternate arm (thrusters, curls, rows, merkins, dips) with core/legs (situps, LBT, Flutter Kicks, Lunges, Step Ups). PAX better pay attention to the two in the center and make sure they aren’t drooping. If they are – get out there and take the coupon and keep it up in the air. Or Burpees.

Lets Go. Mall Cop and Cracklin’ were already ready for relief by the time YHC finished explaining.

Belloq and Triple engaged in a series of “I can do better than that” with the coupons. One arm. One finger. Whatever. Baywatch took immense joy proudly holding aNDy way up high. Kuch and PopTart were unshakeable as they just stood there saying “what, is this supposed to be hard?” Saban, as usual, had his way with the Irish block. I never did like that guy. I think I heard Pothole saying “Who the heck is this guy?” Nice to meet you too! YHC, on the other hand), struggled and needed a rescue from War Eagle to save the day.

Much to my surprise – the PAX quickly figured out that the best way to handle this was to actively step up to relieve the coupon holders, rather than waiting for the holders to cry out for help. Nicely done – each tabata break, half the circle was rushing forward to take another turn at holding.

Tabata done, circle up for an Al Gore/Monkey Humper ring of fire (2x) while the PAX kept the coupons up high, refusing to fall for the Rudy trick of waiting for them to drop the coupon prematurely. At last, nearing the end – Rudy (HONESTLY) called it, and the coupons were gently placed on the ground.

NICE WORK – NO PENALTY BURPEES. So 10 Burpees OYO anyway.

Thumb War, Walleye, Backed Up took us home with last round of Marys (Box Cutters, Freddie Mercury and J Los).

Finished with our COT. Plenty of announcements- they are in email and mumble chatter. Plenty of intentions (especially for sick PAX and relatives). Then War Eagle took us home, asking God to guide, inspire and lead us forward into the week.

  • Early Modification at the Milestone Marsh – from Akbar

5 HIM showed up in the gloom this morning to get better. Including a FNG named Jay. For a hot minute, we thought it would be 3 Jays at the beatdown. Then Hogs and Pik joined us.

Gloom Factor: Cooler than usual, clear skies

Warm Up: Mission, Core Principles, SSH x20, IW x20, self-love x10, grass grabbers x10.

THANG: Mosey around the block stopping at every 3rd light pole for 5 reps of said exercise, then adding reps ascending to 25, then descend every 3 back to 0 before starting next exercise.

Exercises: Sister Mary Catherine’s, Merkins, Squats

That was how it was supposed to go, but QIC modified very early after heavy breathing and legs burning by all – and took out the descending part to save for another time.

We moseyed to the lakefront and up Noah’s Ark back to the Flag – picking up Edward again along the way for a block or 2 before he rode off into the night.

Basketball court: Suicides. 10 SMC’s, 10 Merkins, 10 Squats, 10 LBC’s. Work back doing same thing to the beginning.

Mary – Leg raises and hands to heels x 10 each.

Our FNG was a little wobbly and worn out, so we all stayed on the six for COT. Hammer prayed us out.

    WELCOME YELLOW SNOW!

Thanks for letting me lead – Akbar

    NMM

Good weather, great mosey and tough workout today. Jay showed up after reading an article on F3. Grew up in Metairie, went to Rummell, went to Destin, FL after Katrina and opened some restaurants. Moved to Yellowstone and ended up in Montana for a while before coming back to Mandeville to be with his 95-year-old mom. EH goes to F3 Nation, glad to have him out.

While moseying back to the flag, we passed Edward’s house. Waterpik and YHC were talking about the strange occurrence last week and wondered how we was. Then he came out of his house and worked out with us again. We saw a dead snake and had multiple conversations about our own snake experiences. Hogsbreath peered up at the sky at one stop and gave us a lesson on stars. Pointing out Orion, which means colder weather is coming. Hope he’s right.

  • MISL in each corner and multiplier plus a bonus round – from BBQ

Another beautiful morning for a beat down. A longer warm up like Einstein does and with me being a respect respect Q also. Self love, Arm circles, Swimmers, Boxers, Grass Grabbers, Willie Mays ( picked up in St Louis ), Mountain Climbers, Peter Parkers, Parker Peters, Merkins, SS Hops and at least two others I do not remember. The top deck of A1C was used for four corners of different exercises. Each corner exercise increased by 5 each round. Corner 1 started with 10 Merkins, corner 2 with 15 imperial walkers, corner 3 with 20 squats and corner 4 with 25 LBC’s. 4 rounds were completed. A bonus round was added with an exercise selected by 4 in the beat down. Hogs Breath picked the number at it was 17. He picked hand release Merkins. Hammer picked Mike Tysons. I have forgot the other 2. In between 2 of the 4 corners we ran alternating doing every other line touches , every other line jumps and back pedals. We prayed out to end another beautiful morning.

  • Chi Chi Ah Ah – from Jose10k

Friday the 13th, how would I create a beatdown for this historic Friday. Thoughts were bounding around my head all day. I was excited after dropping off my daughter to start planning, however, my nephew blew up my phone with countless Algebra 3 questions late into the night. Still, I had to create something. Then I worried that the resident 80s/90s pop culture buff (Hammer) would find countless holes in my movie references. Too much pressure on YHC, so I limped in with a simple version of a Friday the 13th beatdown. All exercises were in reps of 13. Maybe next time.
Warm-ups: ssh, torso twists, grass grabbers, arm circles, shoulder presses
The thang: 4 corners each corner reps of 13, first round was merkins with simple jog between corners, then jump squats with back paddle half way, sprint the other half. Then a Waterpik fav, bear crawl the length of the parking garage with a merkin at each painted line. Lunge walk back. Moseyed to the rock garden for some coupon work. Curls for the girls, then rows, squats and kettle bell swings. Moseyed back. Then 5 calf raises each step all the way up, followed up with Mary. COT with Legal praying us out. Thanks for the chance to lead gentlemen, always a pleasure.

  • Your Krewe is Always Backing you Up! – from Sea Man

Ahab had his whale! But he was alone! Today we had a krewe show up to avenge our friends death to the man eating jaguar shark of Lake Ponchetrain! Today 15 brave, strapping, and strong men jumped into the water to avenge our lost pax! A 4x increase over last week!

We searched for the man eater at all levels and went up and down the ladder!
Laps of 25M, 50M, 75M, 100M, 75M, 50M, and 25M. Between each lap the pax did Squats and Flutter kicks of increasing reps.

After an arduous search we spent some time with a lap of Shuffle Board (10lbs weight moved only underwater to and fro 50m)

With time left we proceeded to end the. morning with Ring of Fire. Two 10lbs weights moving around the circle in opposite directions, 10 reps each arm. Once complete Pax continued to tread water passing the medicine ball around.

    One FNG called Sheep’s Head!

As sight Q I think all future FNG’s at Zissou should be named after fish.

  • 5 Years Of Brotherhood, Bonding and Burpees – from Belloq

I woke up at 4:20 to a very special day. Eagerly got ready and made the 21-minute drive from the Lakefront to Audubon Park where I have only been to the The Birdcage once to celebrate our 6 Year Convergence last year. How appropriate that I celebrate the start of my 5th year where F3 NOLA truly planted it’s flag and grew? To my delight, I saw both Reluctant Yankee (site Q) and King Kong (Q last time I was at this AO) in the gloom so my confidence in help if needed was growing as I was beginning the disclaimer promptly at 5:29.

My standard disclaimer expanded to tell the PAX why today was special…Biegnet’s (Matthew Joubert’s) 17th birthday, start of his Senior Year at Jesuit and my 5-Year Manniversary. The looks from the PAX was telling that many didn’t know who this foreigner was and wondered if I was going to talk the rest of the work out so we began…

Moseyed to the field across Magazine.

As I could see the confused faces of most of the PAX as they were still wondering who the hell was this guy, who allowed him to Q and how have they not met me if I have been around for 5 years. I decided to introduce myself by asking the PAX to circle up on me.

    Warm-up
8-Count Body Builders IC X 20 (I could tell I would be popular from this choice moving forward)
Arm circles front and back IC X16
    Seal claps IC X 20
    Overhead presses IC X 20
    Overhead arm claps IC x20
Moroccan nightclub IC X 16 (dancing was allowed and welcomed)

Initially my plan was to honor Shorty’s workout which had 16 reps but I screwed up the whole process because for the first time ever in the history of F3…8-count arm circles were performed.

I then walked over to complete the circle for our final warm-up
Low slow squats IC X 20

    The Thang

Ring of fire Merkins/Plank switching to Monkey Humpers/Al Gore X 3 Rounds

PAX became talkative so I threw in 10 Burpees

Ring of fire Catalina Wine Mixers/Plank and Bonnie Blairs/Al Gores X 1 Round

    Merkincides
10 Merkins, sprint to first tree, return to start for 10 Merkins, sprint to second tree, rinse and repeat to 5 trees out.

PAX was less talkative so we did 10 burpees as a reward.

Traditional Belloq Core Routine: (Borrowed from Jeff Cavalier)
    Halos Clockwise 30s
    Halos Counterclockwise 30s
    Reverse Corkscrew 60s
    Dynamic Plank 60s
    Chainsaw 60s
Slow, controlled Big Boy Situps 60s

    Cool down

    Slow 8-count bodybuilders x 5 IC
Stretch to sky with hands in air breathing deeply.
Really, Really Slow Abe Vigodas IC X 5
    Touch toes

    Mosey back to the flag

    COT
    15 PAX
Intentions for children, families and everyone dealing with going back to school. Giving strength to F3 Brothers in need of a friend(s) to lean on if they need support.

A special thanks to Rudy for gifting me the greatest F3 name ever, Jingle Vader, Cowbell, Shorty, Bubba and Douille for being there for my initiation into the F3 brotherhood.

“Btw, worst FNG naming process was held in the gloom today. Took over 10 min. Seems like none of us were on topic at all.” -Shorty’s BB 8/11/2016

To start year 6, I’ll be back at Okawata for my Manniversary. Consider this an early invite. SYITG

  • Iron PAX Prep – from TurboTax

The Iron PAX Challenge 2021 is now on the calendar for September so it was time for some coupon work this morning at The Gipper. Eight veterans and one FNG put in a quick warmup of SSHs, Mountain Climbers, Seal Jacks, Peter Parkers, Toe Touches and Parker Peters, then it was time to grab a coupon and head over the Boatyard for some work.

YHC set out four markers with the PAX’s help, each 10 yards apart, and then we began Round 1 with a Farmer’s Carry of our coupon to the first marker, back pedal to the starting point, jog forward to our first marker; Farmer’s Carry with our coupon to the second marker, back pedal to the starting point, jog forward to the second marker, etc. Multiple rounds ensued consisting of OH carries, Rifle carries, Manmakers to OH carries, Murder Bunnies, Bear Crawl pull throughs, all with our coupons of course, with skips, carioca, bear crawls, back pedals and jogs in between.

Countorama and nameorama upon our return to the Shovel Flag. Welcome FNG Dribbles! You might see Tinkles in the OR. Barely Legal prayed us out.

Thanks for letting me lead guys. Solid work this morning.
