  • A Farewell Butt-Kicking

    18 of the best men I have had the pleasure of knowing posted in the gloom of a purely September morning to get better. Today, I chose my favorite workouts that I have gleaned over my time with F3 NOLA.
    The Thang
    Mosey to the Bandstand for COP and Hops
         SSH x 25
         Plank Jacks x 20
         Imperial Walkers x 20
         Mountain Climbers x 25
    Wall Hops x 10 – Get yourself from the ground to the top of the bandstand by jumping and pushing up with your triceps. 1 time across = 1
    Mosey to Soccer field
         6 Minutes of Mary
         Putins x 15
         Penguins x 20
         Wife Pleasers x 15
         Hip Raises x 15 (Left then right)
         LBC x 20
    Mosey to the Goal Post
         Peek a boo Burpees x 10
    Mosey to fly
         Mississippi Salute
         Rotating Planks x 5 – Start in standard plank, after a 4-count, rotate to left hand in the air, after a 4 count, rotate to inverted plank, 4-count, rotate to right hand in the air, 4-count, rotate to standard plank. Then do the whole thing in reverse. That’s 1.

    Mosey to the flag
    Circle of man – With the pax in a tight circle, shoulders close together in plank position, each man puts their right hand on the shoulder of the man next to him. Together, the group does a “one-handed” push up. Either the man depends on the man next to him, or helps the man next to him. After 5 pushups, the group switches hands. This is to be a lesson to us all. When we are strong, we are so to help the man next to us. When we are weak, we can depend on the man next to us.

  • Mississippi Salute

    Pre-Thang

    This morning started off with what seemed to be a record-tying post of 15 men. When the long hand hit the 6, we….er they…embarked on a workout that pushed every man to at least one of their limits.

    The Thang

    Mosey to the first COP at the back corner of the park
    Side straddle hop × 25
    Imperial walkers X 25
    Arm circles X 10
    Windmills X 10
    Lunges x 10

    Move on toward the soccer goal post (where YHC joined the rest of the crew after a fart-sacking incident, making this the the largest post we have had in NOLA F3), for one round of Tabata. At high intensity you perform excercise A for 20 seconds, then rest for ten seconds. Once again, at high intensity, perform exercise B for 20 seconds, then rest 10 seconds. Repeat this entirely x 4, for a total of 8 sets.

    Mosey to the levee, and run some “Nola Hills.” that means we ran up and down the levee until we ran out of levee. Then moseyed some more to J.J. Audubon

    Low Slow Everything – On each exercise, take 4 counts to go down, hold for 4 counts, and come up in 4 counts. Rinse and repeat

    Mosey to soccer goal post across the street
    Tyrolean Crossing – Every man assumes plank position, while the first man traverses the length of the goal post. Forward, backward, two-hand shuffle, legs over the bar, do whatever you need to do to get across. Return to plank and wait for everyone else to cross. Repeat

    Mosey back toward the lightposts, and line up for the Inchworm Low
    Lunge walk to the 2nd lightpost (25ish yards)
    Inch worm to 3rd light. From standing position, place hands by your feet, walk your hands as far forward as you can, then walk your feet forward to meet your hands. stand up, repeat until you get to the light.
    Reverse lunge walk to the 4th light
    Burpee Broad jump to the 5th light
    Mosey to a near grassy area to recover and do some 6MOM

    Freddie Mercury x 20, reversing direction half way through
    Penguins x 20
    Putin Circle – Form a closed circle, facing inward, and everyone assumes Putin position (russian twist). While in position the QIC reaches and taps the hand of his neighbor, who does the same, until it goes around the circle. Recover for a quick 5 count, and do it 9x more, changing direction half way through.

    Pre-Thang

    7 men rolled out of bed early for a rock-topped beat down at the Playground. 3 of whom are visiting from North Carolina, and chose the path less traveled, you know, the one that leads to Metairie.

    The Thang

    We hit the track running, stopping at the opposite corner, nearest the playground for a COP. SSH x 20, LSS x 20.

    Take a lap

    COP – Stepping Lunge x 20, Merkin x 12

    Mosey to the playground to set up a makeshift Foundry.

    Plank up, first man moves to balance beam for 10 dips, moves to monkey bars for 10 pull ups. As first man finishes dips, second man gets out of plank to follow him. When done with pull ups, get back to the line and plank up, until everyone does their dips and pull ups. Rinse and Repeat

    Mosey to the Rock City Hill for 11’s. 10 Burpees at the bottom, 1 dip at the top. You know how this works.

    Mosey to the baseball field for 6 MOM. LBC x 15, Flutter Kick x 15, Penguin x 15, Putin x 12

    Check the time to find we have a few more minutes than planned. Line up at home plate to take advantage of this blessed gift of time. Run to first base, 10 diamond push ups, run to second base, 20 Merkins, run to third base, 30 Air Squats, Run home, 40 LBC’s. Home Run

    Mosey over to the rock pile, choose a juicy one, I believe I heard a nice “That’s what she said” somewhere in there. Circle Up. Rock Squats x 10, Shoulder press x 10.

    Return your rock, and run back to the virtual flag.

    Shout out offered for those struggling with cancer, as well as the many who are traveling. The NC F3’ers initiated what they call the ball of man, coming in close for the shout out. I like it.

  • Did a man disappear?

    7 Grown Dang Men jumped, rolled, or fell out of bed for a 5:30 show time at the Birdcage, in the not so gloomy gloom. 2 Rolled in as we rolled out.

    TClaps to the PAX on pull up improvement – a lot of you are doing a lot more on the bar than when we started. I’m with RY, let’s try and get some pull ups in every work out, and work our way up to a full out Murph. Throw some in on your off days, buy a $20 doorway pull up bar, it’s well worth the investment.

  • Slip N Slide in the Gloom

    9 well adjusted chaps got their 6 out of the fartsack to get better in the gloomy, dewy grass of the BirdCage. Unfortunately, our beloved flag fartsacked. Hopefully it will choose to get better Friday.

    The Slip n Slide
    With the pax lined up in plank position, and the weight bag at the end of the line, the two men on the outside edges line up to sprint up the levee and back. If the bag gets passed down the line, before the runners get back, the runners do 5 burpees. Go until everyone runs. If the men have to do burpees, everyone gets a 5 count recovery before the next runners go. (The name is derived from the lack of braking ability for some of the men on the way down the levee at full speed, one of those men being YHC, who slid far enough to end up in a ‘water’ filled ditch.)

    Modified Putin – With the pax in a line facing the river, and the weight bag at the end of the line, everyone assumes Putin position, and we pass the bag down the line and back, keeping feet in the air. Recover with a 5 count. Repeat x 5

    Step ups (right foot lead) x 20
    Dips x 15
    Step ups (left foot lead) x 20

    Mosey to the light poles
    Football workout of which I don’t remember the name x 2 – Men start in  a standing line, upon beginning, start chopping your feet (kind of like running in place, with your feet staying low to the ground.) When Q calls “drop,” the men drop chest to ground, get back up, and continue chopping. Repeat until Q shouts “go,” then you sprint to the first light, and recover jog/walk to second light.
    From here, move into plank position, when Q starts, everyone chops their feet agian. When Q shouts “left,” drop to the ground, roll to the left, roll back, and get back to chopping in plank position. If Q shouts “right,” do the same, but roll to the right. When Q shouts “go,”  sprint to the next light, and recover to the second light.

    Mosey to the nice grass adjacent the ‘flag’ and do 3 Minutes of Mary.
