  • Nine holes before sunrise

In the on-going spirit of #RRR, but consistent with our Tsunami boot-camp ethos, YHC decided to try something new…

After a brief warm up of SSH, Peter Parkers, Parker Peters, and Low Slow Squats, the pax were off around the Audubon Park track down to the Magazine Street entrance.

Mosey to the entrance to Audubon Park Golf Course for the main event – nine holes of golf, with increasing exercises at each tee box:

    #1: 1 burpee, 2 merkins, 3 squats

    #2: 2 burpees, 4 merkins, 6 squats

    #3: 3 burpees, 6 merkins, 9 squats

    ….

    #9: 9 burpees, 18 merkins, 27 squats

    Total: 45 burpees, 90 merkins, 135 squats

Unfortunately no time for a post-round beer in the clubhouse. We then completed the lap around the park and back to COT by 6:15. 4.1 miles total, plus some solid reps…great push by the pax this morning. That was tough, especially in the thick gloom, but fun to try something new

    Until next time…

  • Into the warm winter gloom we go…

    Tsunami 12/10/19

I wondered how many people would show up after the F3 Christmas Party, but around 5:28 several figures emerged through the humid, warm fog and after a quick disclaimer off we went.

Into Audubon Park for a quick warm-up on the track: SSH, IW, Squats, Peter Parker, Mountain Climbers, Merkins

Run track to Drew Brees Playground for circuit #1

    • Ab extensions on the swings x10
    • Diamonds x10
    • Jump squats x10
    • LBC x20
    • X3 rounds

Back to the track and run full loop of the park, around to playground at Expo/St Charles, picking up Crimson from F3 Carpex who had looped in with our local FiA contingent

    Circuit #2 at Playground:

    • Merkins on balance swing/surf thing x10
    • Split-arm Pull ups x10
    • Derkins on swing x10
    • X3 rounds

Across St Charles and over to WPM

Run up to the top of Wolfpack Mountain with 5 merkins at each end (10 merks/floor – 7 floors)

Back down stairs and back to COT

    Summary:

    • 3.5 miles
    • 180 merkins/variants
    • Creative use of playgrounds

On our dark run around the park, we passed many a runner and frightened dog walker until one group yelled out “hey, are you F3?”  Why yes ma’am, we are!  Our F3 brother from Raleigh/Carpex, Crimson, had arrived late and in a new town, standing outside a dark park without any sense of where might be, he’d looped in with a couple of lovelies from FiA and was enjoying a nice morning jog.  He joined up and we kept at it.   We kept up the pace today and covered some ground – strong work from everyone.

    Until next time

  • Braving the elements (Tuesday edition)

Despite a welcoming and motivational Mumblechatter preblast, only four brave, badass souls braved the chilly, windy conditions for Tsunami.

After a brief disclaimer and glance around for late arrivals, we moseyed across St Charles and up into the sheltering embrace of Wolfpack Mountain.

    Warm up (undercover), in cadence:

    • SSH x15
    • Imperial Walkers x15
    • Squats x15
    • Merkins x15
    • Peter Parker’s x15

Mosey across Freret to the ROTC pull-up bars for come circuit work:

    3 small groups (2-1-1):

5 pull ups, while others do plank jacks and jump squats

    3 rounds

Mosey further into Tulane and to the edge of the Quad:

    Pair up for some Dora:

While partner 1 runs the length of the quad, partner 2 does exercises:

    • 50 derkins
    • 100 dips
    • 150 power ups
    • 100 dips
    • 50 derkins

Next a long, meandering mosey to Willow and down Calhoun…several wrong turns while trapped among the dorms on the part of YHC added some distance.

Finally back on track and over to little WPM.

Up the stairs to the top floor for some merkins and mary

    • Freddy Mercury x30
    • Flutters x30
    • Diamonds x20
    • Stagger merkin (L/R) x20
    • Dolly x30
    • Dying cockroach x30
    • Widearms x20

Back to base, with a few minutes to spare so we did 15 burpees for good measure (and while waiting for Nip/Tuck, who was gingerly finishing having just returned from several weeks out with a banged up Achilles.)  Missing a few of the Tsunami regulars, but it was great having Nip/Tuck back from the DL and hope today didn’t deliver any set-backs to recovery.

All in, we ran 3.25miles, did 100+ merkins and 100+ squats/variants, and put a solid down painment on the day.

Quick COT and an offer of thanks for our health and many blessings in life.

    Until next time,

    Mariah

    We did this shit
  • Laces out

Small but mighty group today for Tsunami. After a brief disclaimer we were off.

Lots of early discussion of the Saints win last night.  Once again the script-writers at the League office tried to rob Who Dat nation of a win through botched officiating, but Wil MF-ing LUTZ came through huge!

Also much discussion of IPC, with pax coming down on both sides of the issue consistent with GroupMe mumblechatter. Yes, it’s stupid and those jokers in Greenwood shouldnt have made up a workout that takes longer than 45 mins to reasonably complete, but Yes it’s also meant to be tough and pushing yourself is good for you. Either way, we didn’t see any cinderblocks or do an unreasonable amount of burpees today, so I lived up to my promise of being IPC prep and recovery-friendly.  Anyhoo…

After a brief mosey down to Walnut and back up St Charles, we “squared” up for some warm-up under the watchful eyes of Touchdown Jesus at Loyola:

    SSH x15

    Mountain Climbers x15

    Squats x15

    Merkins x15

Mosey through colonades and under and past WPM, and up to the nicest air-conditioned parking deck around.

Indian run up Little Wolfpack Mountain to the top:

    Partner up for Dora:

    50 jump lunges

    100 Widearms

    150 plank jacks

    200 LBCs

Other partner enjoys 5 flights down and back up of sweet, sweet clean air-conditioned stairs.

    Plank for the 6

Then down the stairs and out into the humid gloom, and over to the big boy Wolfpack Mountain.

Up the Stairs up to 5th floor

5 burpees then backwards/forwards run to 6th floor

    10 squats

    backwards/forwards run to top

    5 burpees then 10 squats

    Back down

Mosey back across St Charles and over to the Drew “the real Touchdown Jesus” Brees family playground

    6 minutes of Mary, IC:

    20x Freddy Mercury

10x Incline Swing ab extension (crowd pleaser!)

    15x Oblique crunches each side

    15x Flutters

    Protractor

    15x Russian Twists

15x Decline swing ab crunches (at 86’s suggestion)

Mosey back to virtual flag, with some final Merkin variants to kill time.

    COT with Q-provided refreshments

Always a pleasure to lead and thanks for the collective push today boys.

    Until next time,

    Mariah

  • Thunderstruck

5:25 and there was some light rumbling in the distance and a few drops of rain, but not enough to audible or change the plan of attack… at 5:30 a half-assed disclaimer was given and 13 of us were off, picking up a few stragglers and a loose pit bull mix along the way.

Easy mosey around the parking lot to the bandstand for some warm-up in cadence:

    • SSH x20
    • Peter Parker x20
    • Merkins x 15
    • Low slow squat x 20

To picnic tables under cover and pair up:

While partner A runs Oak Alley to track and back around parking lot, Partner B does exercises

    • Lap 1: steps ups
    • Lap 2: dips
    • Lap 3: incline merkins
    • Lap 4: squats
    • Lap 5: Freddie Mercurys

Gather the six then head through the darkness to the track. Indian run to bridge, and squats while we wait for the 6.

Over and into Audubon Park Golf Course for some Mary (staying low to the ground to avoid being struck by the lightning that seemed to be quickly approaching)

    50 LBCs, 40 Flutters, 40 Rosalita

Across the golf course, meandering aimlessly in the wind, rain and lightning to far side track, then a quick check of the clock showed that I’d blown the whole thing and leadership was disintegrating so we hustled back to the virtual flag by 6:15. (So much more planned but will need to wait for next time.)

    In total, 3.5 miles.

COT in the rain and thunder.

Announcements are in Yankees email from Sunday night, and there was not much time for chit chat due to the weather⚡️⚡️. Not sure what happened to the pit bull, but he wasn’t at COT so didn’t get a cool nickname like Pluto, Ocho-Cinqo or Sick-balls.

    Until next time,

    Mariah

Seven HIM showed up for this week’s installment of the Tsunami. After a brief disclaimer, we were off…

    • 20 SSH IC
    • 10 Mountain climbers IC
    • 10 merkins IC
    • 10 Low slow squat IC

Mosey up West Rd to gym deck.

    • 10 diamonds IC
    • 10 carolina dry docks IC
    • 10 widearms IC

Down stairs and back out to West Rd.

    • 20 jumping lunges IC
    • 10 sumo jump squats IC

Down the ramps with 2 burpees at each floor

Outside and back over to WPM

Up stairs to the roof and down 1 level.

    • 10 merkins IC
    • 10 stagger left IC
    • 10 stagger right IC
    • 5 Diamonds

Mosey down the ramps with 2 burpees at each floor…then modify into a Chinese downhill, free for all Indian run, pausing at the bottom for some plank work (R/L, 6”, J-Los)

Hot mosey back to base for COT and take-out.

Strong work today brothers. That was a smoker if I do say so myself. In addition to ~30 burpees and 150 merkins variants, we got in 3.6 miles, which helps those of us who are in last place for Run Ranger Run (ahem! Team HNJ). Now go enjoy that extra guilt-free slice of king cake and Paradise Park (#officalbeerofF3MardiGras).

    Until next time,

    ~Mariah xo

  • Tsunami

Ten men gathered in the gloom at Audubon Park and after Seaman was done flirting with some would-be FiA gals, the disclaimer was delivered and off we went…

Into park and circle up for Warm Up

    SSH, mountain climbers, windmills, squats

Mosey around the track to the Drew Brees Playground for a quick circuit.

    2 rounds of the following:

    • 5 Pull ups
    • 15 Ab extenders on the swings (this was a crowd-pleaser)
    • 20 Dips

Out to Walnut and up to St Charles, left to Broadway

Up Broadway, with 10 Diamonds at each cross street all the way to Freret (50 total)

Right on Freret to the Tulane ROTC building and the beautiful, tall pre-taped pull up bars:

Pull up bars circuit x3 rounds

    • 5 pull ups
    • 10 hanging knee ups
    • 15 merkins

Mosey out to LBC Quad for some Mary (and to test the winds for what meat and gravy was cooking this morning…alas, it smelled like they were just serving cereal)

    Flutter x15, Dolly x15, Russian Twist x15

Mosey back out to Freret and along to West Rd

Up Wolfpack Mountain stairs, with 20 Merkins at top and some LBCs, and then back down

Over to the benches for 20 dips, 15 derkins, 20 dips, 5 derkins (shoulders are smoked at this point)

Mosey back to base for 5 (nail in the coffin) burpees then COT

    Phew.  YHC was smoked!

Strong work from the pax today…we didn’t cover as much distance as I expected (2.7m), but managed to bang out 140 or so merkins, 25 pull ups and a good amount of Mary.

Tsunami is a month old now, and we’re getting 8-12 guys out every time…but we need Qs. There are open spots in March and April, so please sign up. It’s a great AO with lots of opportunity for being creative.

    Until next time, your friend,

    ~ Mariah xo

  • Rocking around the clock

YHC got back late Monday from a fun, party weekend in LA for the Grammys with the M. I met Weezer and learned who Cardi B is, and definitely had some demons to exorcise this morning. L.A. is great in doses, but it was nice to get back to LA. Enough of that though…after the obligatory disclaimer, we were off…

Warm up mosey down to Walnut and back over to Cowan Circle for:

SSH, Imperial Walkers, Peter Parkers, Merkins, Parker Peters

Up West Rd to Freret and over onto Tulane campus, to LBC quad for the main event: Rocking around the Clock

Starting in the middle of LBC Quad with 20 LBCs in cadence, followed by exercises at the sides and corners, and more LBCs each time we get back to the middle

    Starting with 20 Squats at 12 o’clock >

    20 Merkins at 2 >

    20 Jump lunges at 3 >

    20 Dips at 4 >

    20 Diamonds at 6

    20 Plank jacks at 8

    20 Derkins at 9

    20 Wide arms at 10

Back off campus and back over to the smelly side of Freret, stopping for squats to collect the 6.

Up the Loyola Recreational Sports Complex deck (baby wpm?), 5 burpees at the top and back down.

Over to (big) Wolfpack Mountain, up the stairs with 5 burpees at the top and back down

    To the Benches!

    20 step ups

    20 dips

    10 derkins

Mosey back to the virtual flag for COT.

We got in 3.6 miles and some solid upper body work today, as well as ample mumble chatter about the deliciously sweet smell of biscuits and gravy in morning air, the foul smelling Loyola parking decks and how the quad at Tulane is called “LBC Quad” (no idea why, but obviously we did a ton of LBCs there).

The weather was looking dicey this morning and we didn’t know what was in store, so t-claps to the 7 braves souls who turned up for another edition of Tsunami. I hope it didn’t disappoint.

    Until next time…your friend, Mariah.

  • TSUNAMI!

A strong wind blows, the rain and waves approach! 13 men of purpose and intent launched into the howling gloom and alas, F3 Tsunami had launched.

    Thang:

Mosey down the block and back to front of Tulane for warm-up:

    • SSH x15
    • Imperial Walkers x10
    • Mountain Climbers x15
    • Merkins x10

Up Law Rd, right into Johnston Quad

    Four corners circuit work x3:

    • Merkins x10
    • Dips x10

The wind and rain are picking up now…the angry, dark sea approaches.

Back to Law Rd, and continuing up to Freret then deeper into campus to Newcomb/LBC Quad

    • Line up for 20 LBCs > Backwards to wall and mosey back, 40 LBCs
    • Side step to wall and mosey back, 40 LBCs
    • Sprint to wall and mosey back, 20 LBCs

Ahoy now, see how the sea she churns and the waves doth rise…the dreaded Tsunami is nigh.

Back to Freret then over to West Rd, to the familiar sight of Wolfpack Mountain. Up the stairs to the roof.

Now above the turbulent seas that froth below, but 7 stories up the wind howls and the rain cuts like needles into our dampened microfiber, wicking performance apparel.

Better circle up for 10 diamonds.

The tsunami is really rolling in at this point.  Starfish and creatures of the deep strewn here and there, covering the manicured campus below.

Down the ramp to find some cover. Circle up for merkins IC x10, flutters x20, widearms x10, Dolly x15, Merkins x10

Back down the stairs and out into the storm…Mosey back to the flag…but wait, what’s this?? 4 minutes to spare?

    • At the Gumbel Fountain:
    • Right leg step ups x20
    • Dips x15
    • Left leg step ups x20
    • Derkins x10

6:15…the tsunami hits the pax and we’re all dead.

    COT

Strong group today for the first Tsunami, including two visiting pax from Nashville and Tallahassee.  It’s truly awesome to see the growth and health of F3 NOLA, and fun to be able to launch a new workout to provide the nation with another alternative in our busy schedules.  There are so many un-explored areas in this AO, and today was just a taste.

Hawgcycle has the Tsunami Q next week, so come on out and see what’s in store. (Btw, his baby soft feet loved the Tulane quad…maybe enough to make him a regular!)

    Until next time, your friend,

    Mariah xo

  • This Birdcage ain’t big enough for the both of us

28+ gathered for the Birdcage in the thick, sticky gloom of Audubon Park.  Men of various shapes, sizes and ages – but all with the purpose and drive to get out of the fartsack and better themselves and others. F3 is a wonderful thing… so here we go…

    Thang:

Around golf course parking lot and back to the field for some warm up. All exercises 15 count in cadence:

    • SSH
    • Mountain Climbers
    • Squats
    • Parker Peters
    • Wide arms

Mosey down Oak Alley to pick up some coupons

Mosey back to running path and partner up

    • A: Run a suicide of light poles (3)
    • B: AMRAP exercise

    Round 1: chest press

    Round 2: curls

    Round 3: goblet squats

Round 4: merkins on your block

    Round 5: LBCs

Mosey back to fountain to return the coupons

Squats while we wait for the 6

Circle up for some Mary (15 count in cadence):

    • Russian Twists
    • Flutters
    • Oblique crunches (R/L)
    • J-Los

Back to the flag with 5 burpees to finish up.

    NMM

Big crowd this morning, with plenty of visitors from outside of Uptown…I guess everyone came to see the Biebs (this week’s scheduled Q). Hope my lead didn’t disappoint.  I had a bad Plantar Fasciitis flare up on Monday so wanted to keep the mileage low and also keep the group together…I think we did both and everyone got a solid workout in. (If not, please email me for a refund.)

Funny situation when we got back to the shovel flag: a group of guys were circled up doing merkins at the behest of another guy in the middle standing there barking orders with a pit bull on a leash.  Looked like a highly suspect college-aged group – perhaps even some kind of pledge training, but either way upon seeing 29 sweaty, dirt-covered middle aged men running up they quickly vacated our shovel flag area and didn’t heed our invitation to join F3 (“it’s free and we’ll push you harder than that joker”).  Something for everyone I guess.

Welcome Cowboy from F3 Puget Sound and (renamed) FNG Schlitz from Dufossat St, by way of Milwaukee.

Thanks for the opportunity to lead boys.

    Until next time…

    Xo,

    Mariah
