  • No Burpee Suicides?? What???

YHC arrived to the Mothership a few minutes early, and was surprised to be one of the first on the scene. With only 5 minutes to go, there were no more than a dozen Pax, which is a low number for the Mothership, but is understandable given a holiday weekend. YHC was pleasantly surprised with the final push of arrivals, bringing the total posting to 23, including an FNG!
With the clock turning 0630, time for a brief disclaimer, then…

Mosey toward the Great Lawn, in a direction that threw the Pax off. Keep ’em guessing is the best policy. Circle up on the Great Lawn for the Warm Up

    SSH IC x 31
    IW IC x 15
    Ave Vigodas IC x 10
    Grass Grabbers IC x 10
Arm Circles IC – 10 fwd, 10 bwd
    Chinook Squats IC x 10
    Plank-o-rama…Peter Parker IC x 15….Mountain Climber IC x 15….Parker Peter IC x 15.

A quick countoff proves an odd number of pax. YHC had a game of “Catch Me If You Can” planned out, but the odd number threw a wrench in the cogs. Not to fret, YHC had the odd and even numbers split up into two groups. Odd numbers start running backward on Great Lawn, Even numbers do five Burpees and “Catch Up” to Odd numbers. Once first Pax arrives, all drop into a plank and wait. Even Pax run backwards while Odd numbers do five Burpees and “Catch Up” to Even numbers.
One round of that was enough, YHC knew he should have put the cones out……but trying to infuse something new into the routine!

    Mosey to the NOMA Fountain.

    Box Jumps OYO x 10
LL Step ups IC x 10
    Dips IC x 15
RL Step ups IC x 10
    Derkins IC x 15

Mosey to the Tree Line, line up along the first tree.
Bear Crawl to 2nd tree, 10 merkins
Bear crawl to 3rd tree, 10 shoulder taps (King Kong did Kongs…)
Bear Crawl to 4th tree, 10 Floyd Mayweathers
Bear Crawl to 5th tree, 10 Burpees OYO and stand back up

Split the Pax in two groups again. Even number pax form one circle, Odd number pax form another circle.
    Circle Burps!
All pax run in place. Each pax takes turns saying “down” which signals the entire circle to do a burpee, recover, and run in place. The odd numbers went around the circle twice, one can only assume the Even’s did roughly the same.

Mosey to the Foundry for Stations!

    Station 1 – Dips AMRAP
Station 2 – Pull ups AMRAP
    Station 3 – Merkins AMRAP
Station 4 – Leg Lifts AMRAP

The Pax were expecting some Burpee Suicides, but YHC threw ‘ em off with some new routines. Expect the Unexpected! Don’t worry, you’ll find yourselves doing Burpee Suicides again soon enough……
Not exactly sure how a guy born in Venezuela is named after a renowned soccer player from Brazil….but it works!
On a weekend of Giving Thanks, I’d like to say thank you to my F3 Brothers for continually pushing and supporting me to be a better person overall. This is a great organization, one that too many miss out on.

9 Pax showed up for a Pre-Turkey Thanksgiving Feast Beatdown at the one and only Okwata. With 4 shovel flags planted, possibly a record at Okwata, the clock turned 0530, a brief disclaimer was given, and we were off on a mosey toward the mardi gras fountain….

YHC and Da Parish completed Okwata, then gathered at Morning Call in City Park for Coffeteria, as we were scheduled to run the 5 mile Turkey Day Race at 0830. This is a truly manly accomplishment, and a feat only the likes of YHC and Da Parish could serve up. We were joined by the crew from the Dome Patrol, fresh off their victory with Stiffler’s Mom. Thanks for the great F2 Hawgcycle and Swampcock!

YHC and Da Parish truly sealed the deal with an amazing 5 mile run at Tad Gormley, where we were joined by a number of other F3 brothers!

Thanks for posting with me today, and for allowing me to be a part of F3. I am thankful for many things, and my F3 brothers are very high up on that list!

  • Focus Avoids Penalties at WPM

The long awaited debut of the Fracsac Wolf Pack Mountain Q finally arrived. November 2nd seemed so far away not long ago. News of the monumental event traveled far and wide. Rudy canceled his plans to travel to some Irish school, King Kong passed on the opportunity to climb a building in NYC, and a HIM from Pittsburgh made a special trip for it. Don’t let anyone try to tell you different, what you read here is total fact….sort of.
25 men of F3 joined YHC to see what was in store. With 0530 upon us, time to do a disclaimer, then throw the Pax off with a countoff. The Pax were instructed to remember their number. Mosey down St Charles, and make a U-Turn back to the Loyola Lawn for the warmup.

SSH IC x 31 (because that’s what we do)
Grass Grabbers IC x 10 (there was much mumblechatter)
    Abe Vigodas IC x 10

    Plank-o-rama
    Peter Parkers IC x 20
    Mountain Climbers IC x 20
    Parker Peter IC x 20
Asked King Kong his number. He responded with 24
    Merkins IC x 12 (4-count total of 24)

The Pax was asked to count off again, in the order of 1,2,1,2……remembering old number and new number.
    Mosey to the Mountain.

Group 1 in a column on the left, Group 2 in a column on the right. Indian Run up to the top of the Mountain.
Once on top, time to test the focus of the Pax. When we get tired, we tend to lose focus. This can affect home life, or work, or other things. The instructions were simple. A Pax was asked his first number. The first number may have been 17. YHC informed the Pax there would be one opportunity to hear the instructions. Failure to execute properly would result in a penalty.
17 SSH, the first 10 in cadence, the rest in silence, maintaining cadence internally. Failure to stop at the designated number, or a failure to stop counting out loud beyond 10, would result in a penalty.
Penalty #1 – Mosey to the end of the top floor. Split in group 1 and Group 2, 10 Burpees OYO, sprint back to other end.
We tried the test again. 16 SSH may have been the number, but it doesn’t matter, because the Pax incurred another penalty.
Penalty #2 – 10 Burpees OYO, sprint to the other end and back. There was some mumble chatter claiming YHC was just messing with everyone. Not true.
Penalty #3 – Sprint to the end again, 10 Burpees OYO, sprint back. Most of the Pax was getting it, but a couple did not.
Final effort of 13 SSH IC to 10, followed by silence until 13. There was one Pax that did not stop with the rest of us, but YHC allowed one do over. Upon that effort, the entire Pax was in perfect uniform SSH IC mode. It was a beautiful sight!
Mosey back down the mountain, stopping at level 6 for:
    Monkey Humpers IC x 20
    Mosey to level 5 for:
Catalina Wine Mixers IC x 10 (not so fun on the concrete floor of parking garage…meant for grass)
Continue the mosey to the bottom.
    Move to the benches.
    RL Powerups IC x 10
    LL Powerups IC x 10
    Dips IC x 15
    Mosey back to Loyola Lawn
Freddie Mercury IC x 20 (Bohemian Rhapsody Opens Today!)

We welcomed Gemini from Pittsburgh. This guy could knock out some burpees fast, hence the HIM title. He mentioned he planned to come back and guest Q, showing us a real Burpee workout. Looking forward to it! T-Claps to Reluctant Yankee for getting him to WPM and to Jingle Vader for getting him back to his hotel.
When I first visited Wolfpack Mountain, the Indian run up beat me, and I dropped out. It took me a few visits to get there, but I did it. Today I Q’d it! T-Claps to those that kept motivating me.
There were a couple Burpee Debts paid at the end. We got to see Sea Man wear an Irish Jersey!
Coffeteria at PJ’s was great as always.

  • The Stomp to Scout Island and Beyond

Allow me, YHC, to introduce myself. I am known as Fracsac among my F3 Brethren, my real name is not important. One thing you should know about me is that I am the fastest slow guy in F3 Nation. Sure, this may seem subjective, but I have proof. It all started when 8 Pax gathered in the gloom to see what YHC had in store for the 610 Stomp. YHC determined we would run a different route, passing Scout Island, where the scariest Halloween monsters are said to be housed. The plan was to sweep the six along the way, running somewhat as a group. Within the first half mile, our pack was split up in 3 parts. Mahatma, El Guapo, and Rudy took off ahead, YHC settled back a ways from them, with the other Pax making up the six. That may not be completely accurate, as Hawgcycle was really the lone pax in the six, but we would still be on the route if we were waiting for him. I remember the days when I pushed myself to keep up with Hawgcycle, as he was running ahead looking well groomed with a top of the line pair of running shoes. He glided along like the wind, a true force to be reckoned with. Now he shows up with a mullet and flip flops. I doubt I look any better than him, but I do wear shoes. But I digress.
The three fast Pax would occasionally sweep the six, as YHC had instructed. Good for them, but they would pass me up and ignore me like I was a middle child. Lucky for me, I was a middle child, so I shrugged that off easily. We passed Scout Island without incident, except for having to smell the unpleasant fragrance coming from the portable toilets. As I ran up the Wisner Bridge, I could see the fast pax coming back toward me, on their way to rally the others. In a fashionable yet blatantly superior act, they ran up the Wisner Bridge twice, showing the rest of the Pax how it is done. Where was Hawgcycle you ask? We didn’t know either. We ran past the festival grounds, still emanating odors from Voodoo fest, which was comprised of what can only be described as the stench of stale beer and vomit. But on our way to the entrance to NOMA, we came across the awesome smell of bacon! What a pleasant treat in comparison to the previous experiences! Into City Park we continued, the three fast pax sweeping past me and collecting the six. We headed into the track for one quick lap, then gathered around the flag. Just enough time left to seal the deal with 10 burpees. Countoff……wait says Da Parish. We have one minute remaining. Well, then 5 more burpees. Now the deal is sealed! Well Done!

Count Off, Name-O-Rama, Intentions, and closed with a prayer to the Sky Q.

Map My Run showed 4.43 miles.
The three fast pax were the only three Respect Pax we had this morning. That is impressive! I’m going to strive to be an even faster slow guy.
Hawgcycle brought me my water bottle from the last Crazy Ivan on the Northshore. You’re probably thinking that was nice of him. The Crazy Ivan was in January. Speaking of which, we need to have a better showing at the Crazy Ivan in January to show our Northshore Brothers some support. Many of them always find a way to respond to our CSAUP events, so time to return the favor. Dates you ask? Keep an eye out for an announcement in the near future.

Thanks for posting with me today, and for allowing me to be a part of such an amazing group!

YHC signed up to Q the Stomp without realizing the Saints were playing Monday night. After a soaking wet beatdown followed by good F2 at Bayou Beer Garden the night before where we witnessed history from Drew Brees, and a whole lot of Da Parish, YHC did not really want to post. Late Monday, a request for a 610 Stomp Q went unanswered, so YHC committed to taking it, which would also make sure I got my hind end out there! RY mentioned that we might have an exchange student posting Down Range, but the late night temptations of New Orleans probably contributed to the Fartsack. Regardless the reason, no visitor today. YHC arrived to the AO with three minutes to spare and 5 other usual suspects of F3 looking lost in the gloom. With two shovel flags planted and a working streetlight, YHC gave the minimal version of the disclaimer, and said to be back at 0610. We ran……
Smooth, Rudy, Cowbell, and El Guapo took off way ahead as expected. Thankfully Heisenberg was there to keep YHC company. Not that we were slow. 4.2 miles in 38 minutes, equivalent to a 9:04 pace, is nothing to sneeze at! That sub-9:00 pace is right around the corner!!

  • Mind and Body Work – Penalty at Okwata

YHC arrived at Okwata a few minutes early to get a little time put in for the monthly ISI challenge, which has me looking at a jump rope in a whole new way.  The pax started to trickle in at about 0525, so YHC set the jump rope aside and greeted each member.  With the shovel flags planted, one for ‘Merica and one for F3, we were ready to roll.  A brief disclaimer for the veteran crew of fine members of F3…..and then…..mosey around the mardi fountain and circle up on the green space in front for:

    Warmup

SSH IC x 21 (not the normal number, but a bit of foreshadowing)
    Abe Vigodas IC x 10
    Grass Grabbers IC x 10
    IW IC x 15

We all have a lot going on, and we tend to go through the motions without using our minds beyond the basic requirements. Today, the pax would experience a beat down that had both mind and body engaged. Not engaging the mind would lead to a physical penalty. Fun, right?
The pax were asked to count off 1,2,1,2,1,2 and to remember if they are a 1 or a 2. Mosey to the levee.

    Indian run on the levee.
Once each pax made a run to the front, halt for the first test.

SSH IC x 10 followed by a silent count to 21. If any pax makes an intent to continue a SSH beyond 21, the whole pax would be penalized. Spoiler alert: The pax got penalized!

Penalty: 1’s run down one side of the levee, 2’s go the other way. Run up the levee, complete 5 burpees and continue across the levee. Run back up the levee and finish with 5 burpees.

Indian run with a disperse call.
The pax were instructed to count off 1,2,3,4,5,6 and remember whether you are odd or even, but don’t forget if you are a 1 or 2.
When the last pax reaches the front, yell disperse and odds go down one side of the levee, evens go the other way. Complete 3 burpees and run back up the levee to take your place back in formation.
Once each pax made it to the front, halt for the next test.

SSH IC x 10 followed by a silent count to 19. If any pax makes an intent to continue a SSH beyond 19, the whole pax would be penalized. Spoiler alert: The pax got penalized again!

Penalty: 1’s run down one side of the levee, 2’s go the other way. Run up the levee, complete 5 burpees and continue across the levee. Run back up the levee and finish with 5 burpees.

Regular Indian run again. Once each pax made it to the front, halt and turn around.
Indian run with a disperse call headed back. YHC had the pax count off 1,2,3,4,5,6 again.
When the last pax reaches the front, yell disperse and odds go down one side of the levee, evens go the other way. Complete 3 plankjacks and run back up the levee to take your place back in formation.
Once each pax made it to the front, halt for the next test.

SSH IC x 10 followed by a silent count to 17. If any pax makes an intent to continue a SSH beyond 17, the whole pax would be penalized. YHC has never seen the pax so synchronized doing a SSH! No penalty!  Well done!

  • 9/11 Stomp #159

YHC arrived to the AO early, and was able to greet those that arrived to participate in the 9/11 tribute. YHC was pleased to see members of the LARC, fresh off their BRR victory run.  YHC was glad to see 2 shovel flags holding Old Glory on this day.
At 0528, YHC took a couple minutes to read some fast facts about 9/11.
17 years ago, Nineteen men hijacked four fuel-loaded US commercial airplanes. A total of 2,977 people were killed in New York City, Washington, DC and outside of Shanksville, Pennsylvania.

    The Victims:

At the World Trade Center (WTC) site in Lower Manhattan, 2,753 people were killed when hijacked American Airlines Flight 11 and United Airlines Flight 175 were intentionally crashed into the north and south towers, or as a result of the crashes.

Of those who perished during the initial attacks and the subsequent collapses of the towers, 343 were New York City firefighters, 23 were New York City police officers and 37 were officers at the Port Authority.

At the Pentagon in Washington, 184 people were killed when hijacked American Airlines Flight 77 crashed into the building.

Near Shanksville, Pennsylvania, 40 passengers and crew members aboard United Airlines Flight 93 died when the plane crashed into a field. It is believed that the hijackers crashed the plane in that location, rather than their unknown target, after the passengers and crew attempted to retake control of the flight deck.

As of July 2018, 1,642 (or 60%) of 2,753 WTC victims’ remains have been positively identified, according to the medical examiner’s office.

    A brief disclaimer, and we’re off……

The 9/11 tribute run would consist of running through the practice track and on to the festival ground bike trail, where the pax would run half the lap and meet at the Wisner Bridge.

At the Wisner Bridge, the instructions were simple.  The pax was to run up and over a total of four times, symbolizing the 4 planes from 9/11.  The Pax were instructed to run uphill as hard as possible thinking about the uphill battle the first responders had at the WTC buildings.  While running downhill, the pax was to think about the sacrifice the heroes of flight 93 made when they crashed nose first into a field, which potentially saved hundreds of lives of the unknown target.

Once complete, the pax was instructed to complete the lap of the bike trail and return to the practice track where they were to run 2 laps, sprinting the straightaways and resting on the curves.  YHC believes the minimum run was just over 4 miles, while the faster pax probably got closer to 5 miles.

Return to the flag, and complete one set of 9 ‘mericans and a set of 11 ‘mericans to seal the deal.

YHC told a brief story of the visit he made with his 2.0 to the 9/11 memorial site in 2017.  I wasn’t sure if my daughter could handle the somber experience at 10 years of age, but she was genuinely touched by the experience.  On our way out, I told her she could get whatever she wanted at the gift shop, which usually entails many stuffed animals and silly toys, but not this time.  All she wanted was a NYFD ball cap.  Nothing more to say there…..
