  • Three Real Men Post

YHC let someone else take the flag at Okwata, so we were stuck with a VSF at the Uptowner. However, that Pax posted elsewhere, so no harm done.  WPM must have been Shovel Flag aplenty on this day!

Upon arrival at the OA, YHC came across Kim Chi, and was notified that HVAC was in the vicinity as well.  In recognition of Kim Chi’s 53rd straight post in 2017, HVAC and YHC opted to train Kim Chi to prepare for the rest of the year. Take a gander at the video to see our work in action. I think we made some real progress.  We found a lady, perhaps from FIA, that gave us some ideas on how to get him ready.  She has a potty mouth…..

    After a brief disclaimer…….

    The Thang
    SSH x 31 IC
    IW x 30 IC
Low Slow Squats x 15 IC
Now that we’re warmed up, time to revisit the Burpee clock introduced by Tool at Okwata. But this was a Burpee clock with a high knee metronome.
Pax performs high knee run in place while one Pax does a Burpee and we go clockwise until we reach 45. Those Burpees sure do come around fast with only three Pax! That was 15 burpees each!

    COP 1

Mosey to the fence for some bear crawls and Burpee Broad Jumps.
Starting at the fence, bear crawl out to the designated tree, and burpee broad jump back. Repeato.
Upon completing two rounds, YHC was pretty sure it was illegal in some state to stop at two rounds. At this point, Kim Chi shared with the Pax that it was illegal to hunt whales in Oklahoma, or maybe it was Arkansas…..one of those land lubber states! That man is a wealth of information! Our training has really paid off!  As YHC returned to the fact that stopping at two rounds was illegal, probably in ND, the Pax completed the third round of bear crawls and burpee broad jumps.

    COP 2

    Off to the Pontiff Foundry.
    Stations 1 – Dips
    Station 2 – Burpees (10 count timer)
Station 3 – Pull ups (in honor of the ongoing challenge)

After two rounds, YHC called an audible. New stations:
Station 1 – Pull ups (10 count timer)
Station 2 – Pull up assist – thanks Amnesty, your method works well
    Station 3 – Dips
After 3 rounds, Kim Chi reminded YHC that we had only completed two rounds earlier, and that was just unlawful. So we completed round three with the 10 Burpee count timer.

    COP 3

Mosey to the rock pile and grab a friend, one that will be good for curls, there would be no lifting over the head on this day.
    Round 1 – Curls x 10 IC
Set rock on the ground and move to rock to your left. Making the Pax use each others rocks keeps the pain coming as sometimes some Pax choose smaller rocks.
    Curls x 10 IC
Set rock on the ground and move to rock to your left.
    Curls x 10 IC

    Round 2 – Rows x 10 IC

Set rock on the ground and move to rock to your left.

While holding the rock at your chest, flutter kicks x 15 IC
Big Boy situps with the rock IC x 10 (20 total) – that hurt
    Let the rocks go
    Continue with Mary, all IC
    LBC’s x 30
    Hello Dolly x 15
    Tin Snips x 15
    Box Cutters x 15
    Freddie Mercury x 15

    COT
Count off, namorama, announcements, and end with a prayer

    Moleskin
Not counting the broad jump burpees, each Pax did 45 Burpees and at least 30 pullups. Way to go!
T-Claps to Kim Chi for keeping the streak going – 53 posts and counting!
Just a side note, YHC has made considerable progress in the bear crawl and burpee departments since joining F3, so the new challenge is to conquer the pullups! Thanks to the men of F3 for pushing me to become better!

WPM is real, but there were 3 real men that posted at the Uptowner!

  • The Great Lawn

With the Rock ‘n’ Roll 5k scheduled in City Park, the PAX was warned ahead of time that parking might be an issue. YHC joined Da Parish as he ran past my block, making for some good F2 on the way to the Mothership. Upon arrival to the VSF at 0622, we find Bogey (rumor has it he was brought in via drone), and YHC thought the 5k would keep the PAX numbers low. The PAX slowly started to grow, until 23 men stood ready. Hawgcycle came rolling in on his bike from Morning Call where the 3rd F took place at 0600 for bible study, but still not sure why he had to ride. I guess he was just Born To Be Wild!
YHC had a beatdown planned that kept the PAX at the Great Lawn, as it could have been trouble getting around with the 5k ongoing. With 24 eager men of F3 ready to roll, YHC gave the brief disclaimer, and we were off on a mosey to the Great Lawn for:

    The Thang

On your six, lock legs and do alternating situps x 30 (15 for each PAX)
Rinse & Repeat for a total of 3 times

    Final Mary

    Flutter Kicks x 20 IC
    Tin Snips x 15 IC
    Freddie Mercury x 15 IC
    Box Cutters x 15 IC
    Hello Dolly’s x 15 IC

With the sound of the 5k starting gun, YHC knew it was 0730 and time to mosey back to the VSF. Count off, namorama, and FNG naming ceremony. Then finished it off with announcements, and intentions in the COT.

    Mole Skin
Run Ranger Run in support of the Gallant Few Non-Profit is underway, and we’re well on our way to achieving 565 miles through walking, running, biking, and swimming in the month of February. RRR is a movement to help bring awareness to the issues our service members and Veterans face as they transition from active military service to civilian life. It’s not too late to join us, just send a note to nola@F3nation.com and Hawg will give you the link.
T-Claps to Triple Shift for bringing in 5 FNG’s to the Mothership! You are the EH Guru!
T-Claps to KimChi for not missing a single post to date in the 2017 NYR challenge. You have my respect, Brother! Keep it up!

Most people don’t know that I was a commercial diver that worked in the Gulf of Mexico for 15 years before taking an office position for the last 10 years. Staying in shape as a diver was easy, but an office job with no exercise is a recipe for weight gain! Thanks to the PAX for the camaraderie and for pushing me to become better.
One thing we also kept handy while working offshore was duct tape. It was the one thing that could hold anything together, even underwater! The ends of the rope are frayed? Grab the duct tape! Boots are falling apart? Grab some duct tape and wrap ’em! Need a Back Blast to know the PAX that posted? I guess we need to work on that one!

This was my first Mothership Q. Thanks for letting me lead!

  • Burpees & Sprints & Mary – Rinse and Repeat

Eleven men of F3 gathered around the shovel flag in the gloom, committing to improve. There was a slight fog, but the temperature was perfect. YHC was very happy with the turnout, and after a quick disclaimer…..

    The Thang
Mosey to the track for the Warm up, which quickly became the COP #1
SSH IC x 31 (Because 31 is just what we do now)
    10 x Burpees OYO
    IW IC x 15
    9 x Burpees OYO
    Windmills x 10
    8 Burpees OYO
    Hill Billies x 15
    7 Burpees OYO
    Peter Parkers x 15
    6 Burpees OYO
    Parker Peters x 15
    5 Burpees OYO

Now that YHC had the attention of the PAX, it was time to get down to business.

    Track Fun #1
Sprint the 100M straight part of the track
5 x Burpees at the corner
    Mosey the 100M curve
5 x Burpees at the corner
    Sprint the 100M straight part
5 x Burpees at the corner
    Mosey the 100M curve
5 x Burpees at the corner
    Mumble chatter…something about Burpees

    COP #2 – Mary #1
Partner up – wait we have 11 PAX! How do we partner up? How do these numbers work? Answer to follow…
One PAX down and holds the second standing PAX legs for support – Leg Throws x 15 – alternate left, right, and center. Switch positions.
On your six, lock legs and do alternating situps x 30 (15 for each PAX)
Some of the PAX misunderstood the directions, and did additional leg throws. For this reason, YHC had those that finished do additional situps, one PAX standing on the other PAX feet. 10 x situps, then switch until all PAX finished the original leg throws and alternating situps. This was in lieu of planking….more mumble chatter.
Once all PAX finished….Rinse and Repeat – now that all the PAX were on board with how to do it, it went smoother – so……Rinse and Repeat!

    Track Fun #2
Sprint the 100M straight part of the track
5 x Burpees at the corner
    Mosey the 100M curve
5 x Burpees at the corner
    Sprint the 100M straight part
5 x Burpees at the corner
    Mosey the 100M curve
5 x Burpees at the corner

    COP #3 – Mary #2
The ladies boot camp took our turf, but YHC knows how to improvise….
To the other smaller turf on the other side of the track!
Partner up and 15 x Leg Throws each, followed by alternating situps x 15 each.
Since the PAX has the hang of it now…..
Rinse and Repeat…..They really get it now! So….
    Rinse and Repeat!
    Only a couple minutes left…..
    More Mary!
    Flutter Kicks IC x 20
Tin Snips IC x 10 (My new favorite courtesy of HVAC)
    Mosey to the Flag….
As the PAX approaches the flag, the eleventh PAX is doing flutter kicks! Mr Awesome couldn’t find us, but did not give up and completed the workout, joining us for the COT!

Announcements, Intentions, Ball of Man, and Prayer.

The day is always better when we start in the gloom…..
    Thanks for letting me lead.

  • 610 Stomp #75 – The Tetrahedron Run

Nine Men and a canine made the commitment to improve by posting for the 75th run of the 610 Stomp. YHC is not entirely sure if the canine can make that commitment, but it sounds good, and therefore it is. It was a cool and brisk morning, but this did not prevent these men from entering the gloom ready to run. After a quick disclaimer, the PAX was off, but minus one. Wait, what is that sound…..Arrrrrg! It’s Bubba! Now that we are nine strong, it is on! Of course Bubba and Rudy did their regular off to races thing, taking Rebound with, leaving YHC in the dust. Tool was kind enough to hang back, allowing for some good F2 on the regular route. After a good run, the PAX sealed the deal with 10 x Burpees. The day is always better after an F3 posting. T-Claps to Kim-chi for his non stop NYR posting!

Intentions, announcements, and a prayer thanking for the all good things, with a special request to bring unity to our divided country.

Why is this a Tetrahedron run you ask? Well, I got it from JV, and it just sounds cool. What more reason is needed? Some things in this world are not to be questioned.

  • 12 Men and a Levee

Okwata is an incredible AO.  With all the mumblechatter of finding new AO’s to avoid Okwata, YHC felt obligated to bring a good beatdown.  In order to keep it real, YHC needed to bring his “A” game.

12 men of F3 gathered around the flag (a real one courtesy of Kimchi) in the gloom, ready to take on Okwata. After giving a quick disclaimer…..

    The Thang

The PAX began their mosey around the Mardi gras fountain, Carioca looking left, then Carioca looking right.  Circle up for:

    Warm Up

    SSH IC x 25
    Windmills IC x 11
    arm circles IC x 20 (10 front, 10 back)

    Plank-o-rama
    Peter Parker IC x 25
    Mountain Climbers IC x 25
    Parker Peter IC x 25

Mosey to Canal and the top of the levee. If one wants to bring some pain to the PAX, the levee with burpees is a great way to ensure delivery of said pain.

    Levee Fun – One

Pair up and gather at the base of the levee on the lake side.  While always facing the lake, one PAX runs backwards up the levee and forward down three times, all while the second PAX is doing Burpees.  YHC originally stated five times up and down, but quickly changed it to three.  The PAX, including YHC, will have to work up to five.  In case one may be wondering if this Burp Back Mountain will show up again, the answer is yes, and probably with four levee hikes, working our way up to five. The PAX accomplished 100 burpees per team, cumulative, working together.  Once any team finished, that team continued hiking “back” up and down the levee until all teams finished.  This was a real downPAINment on our commitment to Okwata, but we were not finished yet!

    Levee Fun – Two

The PAX moseyed to the east side of Canal and Lakeshore Drive for Four Corners.  YHC instructed the PAX to run to each corner, starting with 25 Monkey Humpers at the first corner, and increasing by 25 at each other corner. It took some PAX a little while to catch on, but they made up the MH’s, so all was good. It went like this:

run south to the corner of Canal and Amethyst, then do 25 x MonkeyHumpers
run across Canal and do 50 x MH’s
run north to Canal and Lakeshore Drive and do 75 x MH’s
return to first corner and do 100 x MH’s
Al Gore until all PAX finished

Mosey back to the flag for some Mary

    Mary

    Box Cutters IC x 25
Real Freddie Mercury IC x 25
Tin Snips (Thx HVAC) x 15
    Hello Dolly IC x 25
    LBC’s IC x 50

Time was almost up, but two minutes left, so….

    Merkins IC x 10 (that’s 20 total)
    Plank position for 30 seconds
Left side plank for 30 seconds
Ride side plank for 30 seconds
    LBC’s x 25

Circle back up at the flag for count off, name-o-rama, and to name an FNG.  Welcome Vespa!  T-Claps to Triple Shift for the steady stream of new F3 Men to the PAX.  T-Claps to Kimchi for being the last man standing by not missing a post in the NYR challenge to date.
Finally, T-Claps to all the PAX that showed up at Okwata this AM, including some Uptowners!  I guess I’m due to visit Uptown soon to reciprocate.

Announcements and intentions, and ended with the Ball of Man!

    Moleskin

YHC has given constructive criticism in the past in regard to the lack of BB’s being posted, so YHC was not surprised to receive much grief for posting this BB 7 hours after the Beatdown happened.  Although being punctual in a BB is good, being succinct is not.  YHC felt that having an accurate and comprehensive BB was more important than beating YHC’s previous record of 45 minutes.  #awesomeexcuse

Thanks for letting me lead, and for helping me on my journey to becoming a stronger leader.

  • The Uptowner says goodbye to 2016

Giving other PAX grief for not posting a back blast took a toll on YHC, keeping me sick and out of commission most of the week. YHC began to feel better late Wednesday, and decided to post to Okwata Thursday morning. YHC was rewarded with ants fighting for their existence at the base of the levee, leaving their mark for more thoughtful positioning along the levee in the future. Needless to say, YHC needed a good turnout at the Uptowner to be inspired and to feel that it was all worth it. The PAX did not disappoint.
7 Men of F3 Nation gathered at the somewhat cooler Uptowner for the final beatdown at this location for 2016.  YHC gave the disclaimer and….

    The Thang

    Warm Up

    SSH x 25 IC

    IW x 25 IC

Arm Circles 15 forward and 15 back IC

Now that the PAX was warm….

    10 Burpees OYO

    Everyone grab a rock…..

    COP #1

Rock on the shelf to the right x 15 IC

Big Boy situps with the rock x 15 IC

Rock on the shelf to the left x 15 IC

    Rinse and Repeat and then….

    Rock Curls x 15 IC

    Rock Rows x 15 IC

Big Boy Situps with the rock x 15 IC

    Repeato 3 times

    The Field

With rocks as markers, estimating 50 feet, the PAX bear crawls to one side and broad jump burpees the way back.  That was so much fun, we had to repeat.

    COP #2

Rock on the shelf to the right x 15 IC

American Hammer with the rock x 15 IC

Rock on the shelf to the left x 15 IC

    Rinse and Repeat and then….

    Rock Curls x 15 IC

    Rock Rows x 15 IC

American Hammer with the rock x 15 IC

    Rinse and Repeat

    The Field again

With rocks as markers, estimating 50 feet once again, the PAX bear crawls to one side and…. crawl bears (backwards bear crawl) the way back.  That wasn’t so much fun, but we still had to repeat.

    COP #3

Rock curl burpee circle…..all PAX continuously does rock curls until the count is theirs, then drop the rock, complete burpee, then start curls again.  PAX counted up to 35.

With only a couple minutes left, time for more abs….

with rock 6 inches off the chest…

Flutter kicks x 24 IC (24 just felt right)

    Hello Dolly’s x 24 IC

    LBC’s with rock x 10 IC (didn’t really work so…)

Big Boy situps with rock x 10 IC to finish it off

    COT

Count-off, Name-o-Rama, announcements and intentions.  F3 pushes me harder than I could push myself, and you guys inspire me to become better in all things.  Tclaps to the PAX!

Tclaps to Thibodaux for posting while visiting from Greenville, NC.  Rumor has it we might see him again on Saturday at the Mothership.

  • 610 Stomp #66 Merkins and Burpees

It was a chilly, brisk morning in the gloom, where 7 men of F3 Nation gathered to take on the 610 Stomp.  YHC gave the disclaimer and the PAX was off.  YHC wanted to change things up, but not too much, so the PAX ran the traditional route along Bayou St. John and onto the Greenway.

    The Thang

    4:30 run, 0:30 Burpees,0:30 Rest
    4:30 run, 0:30 Merkins IC,0:30 Rest
    4:30 run, 0:30 Burpees,0:30 Rest
4:30 run, 0:30 Merkins IC,0:30 Rest – Turnaround and head back
    4:30 run, 0:30 Burpees,0:30 Rest
    4:30 run, 0:30 Merkins IC,0:30 Rest
    4:30 run, 0:30 Burpees,0:30 Rest
4:30 run, 0:30 Burpees,0:30 Rest – The PAX was too far ahead of slow YHC, so the IC Merkins probably wouldn’t have worked on the last evolution…..

COT, sound off, name-o-rama, announcements, intentions and prayers. It’s always a pleasure to join the F3 NOLA PAX, but it’s an honor to lead.

  • 610 Stomp #65

3 610 Stomp diehards gathered around the flag in the gloom on a brisk morning, ready to get warmed up.  YHC gave the disclaimer at 0530 on the nose, and the PAX was off.  This on time launch left one PAX in total disarray, but as a strong member of the F3 nation, DaParish refused to give up without taking on the Stomp with some burpees!  YHC, Rudy and Tool took to the traditional route and ran about 4.5 miles, no stopping, no burpees.  YHC is signed up to Q the next 610 Stomp, and F3 Nation can count on a change in the plans, perhaps incorporating some tradition into the mix.  If any PAX wants to know what to expect, gather around the flag and see!

Tool and YHC were left in the dust by Rudy around Cabrini on the way back to the flag, but that was no surprise!  The PAX still finished strong!  Rudy ran a little extra, and the PAX all finished at the flag right at the 0615 mark.

COT-count off, nameorama, announcements, intentions, and ended with prayer.

T-Claps to DaParish for doing the Stomp on his own!  He even posted proof on Da Twitter!

    Thanks for letting me lead!

  • Q2 – The student becomes the Teacher

Nine PAX arrived in the Gloom on this much anticipated Q2 day, and Autumn was in the air.  Rumor has it that that Congress was considering making Q2 a national holiday, but YHC respectfully requested they stick to matters relevant to the nation, and leave the important stuff to the Men of F3!

YHC gave his disclaimer, and the PAX moseyed to the track.

    The Thang

    Warm Up COP – IC

    SSH x 25
    Windmills x 10
    IW x 15
    Mountain Climbers x 15
    Arm Circles x 20 – 10 forward, 10 back

Note: As the PAX started the warm up, the track was dark and YHC’s plans were in jeopardy. However, during the COP, light was cast upon our humble PAX and all was good.

Mosey to one side of the track, and Broad Jump Burpey through the center to the other side. This was painfully fun….

It was time for some Blackjack in the center of the track.
11 merkins one end,run and do 10 LBC’s the other end. End with 20 Merkins one end, 1 LBC the other end.

Mosey to the baseball diamond. Side Effects made some mumble chatter about animals, and YHC asked if he could name the movie from the quote “Build it and he will come.” Field of Dreams was the answer, which was correct, and so YHC rewarded with just that. Dividing among bases we began:

Home Plate – 15 Burpees (the count)
1st Base – Big Boy Sit ups (AMRAP)
    2nd Base – Merkins (AMRAP)
    3rd Base – LBC’s (AMRAP

After one circuit, PAX moseyed to benches and:

    15 left leg step us
15 Incline Merkins (mumble chatter about hoping for some merkins today – YHC was smiling)
    15 right leg step ups

4 minutes remained, so time for 4 minutes of Mary – IC:

    Flutter kicks x 20
    Box Cutters x 20
    American hammer x 15
    LBC’s x 30
    Flutter Kicks x 20

During the 4 minutes of Mary, there was mumble chatter about the girls nearby. If only Tool had his cinder-blocks, or our rocks from the uptowner, then we could have done some curls for the girls, or maybe some rows for the……well you know.

Mosey back to the flag for COT. Side Effects is leaving us for a great opportunity in Philly, where he can cheer for a Bison that became an Eagle. Side Effects pushed me hard the first time I entered the gloom, which made me want to come back. His leadership and participation has strengthened our PAX. You taught YHC well, and you will be missed, my friend!
Prayers for Tool and his son, for Side Effects and his family, cancer victims and families, and many others.
Thanks for allowing YHC to Q, and thank you for letting me part of this great group. Q2 is in the books…..

  • VQ Day – V is for Victory……

The day to step up and take the Q arrived.  I arrived in the gloom first, hoping other members of the PAX would post for this monumental occasion.  YHC was not disappointed, as a total of 4 PAX posted.   Amnesty planted the flag, signifying that all would be well in the gloom this day!

YHC gave his disclaimer, and we moseyed down to a fresh cut grassy area, void of any lakes from the monsoon that plagued the city the day before.

    The Thang

    Warm Up COP

    IC

    SSH x 25

    Windmills x 21

    Imperial Walkers x 25

Warmed up PAX moseys to the Foundry to engage in 4 stations.

    Burpees – 10 count

    Squats – AMRAP

    Derkins – AMRAP

    Box Jumps – AMRAP

After one revolution, PAX moseyed to the benches for:

    10 – Dips

    15 – Incline Merkins

Return to the Foundry for a rinse and repeat of the 4 station fun.

Once complete, the PAX moseyed to the street to create the world’s second smallest Indian Run.  That’s right, 3 is the smallest, ‘cause 2 PAX just doesn’t qualify……

Indian Run back to the vicinity of the flag, then mosey onto the baseball diamond for The Field of Dreams.  (YHC placed bases ahead of time to stay clear of the lakes from the previous days torrential rains.  After seeing Sharknado over the weekend, we didn’t want to chance an incident….)

    Homeplate – 15 count Burpees

    1st Base – Squats – AMRAP

    2nd Base  – Merkins – AMRAP

    3rd Base – LBC’s – AMRAP

After one refreshing revolution on the diamond, it was off to the casino (track) for a round of blackjack.  Starting near the pole jump mat, PAX did 1 merkin, ran across field for 20 LBC’s, ran back for 2 Merkins, and across for 19 LBC’s…..each evolution always adds up to 21…..aka Blackjack!  The PAX was only able to get about halfway through the game, as time expired.  The PAX moseyed back to the flag for the COT.

Final count at the flag equaled 4 ½ PAX.  Side Effects reported posting at the other Foundry, he didn’t know I was going to choose the haunted, creepy Foundry closer to our planned fun….

Prayed for Cancer victims and families, for Tool’s son, for the souls of those recently passed, including the young girl at Country Day that committed suicide, and asked to give Bubba strength in his fight to speak for the unborn.
