  • Winter is Coming

YHC arrived at the AO a few minutes early. Was YHC the first to arrive today? Wait, who are the others huddled in their vehicles? Is it cold? No, not yet, but Winter is Coming. And who are the guys putting make up on? Since that is a question YHC doesn’t want to know the answer to, how about an easier one. Where are all the Shovel Flags? Speaking of Shovel Flags, where are all the Backblasts that document where the Shovel Flags were placed? Speaking of backblasts, time to get back to the task at hand…..

0630, so time for the disclaimer……and then…mosey to the great lawn for:

    Warmup
    SSH IC x 31
    Merkin Merkins IC x 10

Since some seemed to think this morning was cold, not JV or Rudy, as they wore their sleeveless F3 shirts, YHC needed to get the Pax heated up. Lucky for the Pax, YHC had just the thing:

Blackjack on the Great Lawn (count always equals 21)
1 merkin one side, run across and do 20 LBC’s on the other side, run back across.
2 merkin one side, run across and do 19 LBC’s on the other side, run back across.

20 merkins one side, run across and do 1 LBC on the other side, run back across.

    Mosey to the Peristyle
    Flutter Kicks IC x 20
    Dolly IC x 20
    Rosalita IC x 20

On the brick walkway outside the Peristyle:
Bear crawl from bench one to bench three
    Copperhead Squats IC x 20
Bear Crawl from bench three to bench six
    Jumps Squats OYO x 20

Back to the Great Lawn for BLIMPS at the corners OYO, mosey between exercises
    Burpees x 10
    Lunges x 15 each leg
    Imperial walkers x 20
    Merkins x 25
    Plank Jacks x 30
    Squats x 35

    Mosey to the NOMA Fountain
LL Step Ups IC x 10
    Derkins Derkins IC x 10
RL Step UPs IC x 10

Mosey to the grass near the fountain
    Catalina Wine Mixers x 10

    Mosey back to the VSF.
    One minute Left, so plank.

    COT

Count off, Nam-o-rama, announcements, intentions, and closed out with BOM and a prayer.

Capped it all off with coffeteria and some great F2.

Winter may be coming, but F3 will keep you warm. Come on out and join your brothers. Better yet, sign up to Q and lead your brothers.

ISI Challenge Participants: Add 285 Merkins (295 if you count the Burpees) and 5.79 km to your total.

  • Uptowner Stink BOMBS

YHC saw an opportunity to Q this non running AO and jumped on it, since jumping is allowed at the Uptowner.  Arriving 10 minutes early, YHC was alone.  At 5:25, YHC was still the lone Pax, but there was still plenty of time.  The clock hit 5:29 and genuine concern set in.  It looked as if today would be that dreaded day, the day of the lone Q.  Wait, here comes Duct Tape, reporting that he had been waiting at the Rock City AO, wondering where the Pax were….and here comes Triple Shift!

YHC had two options this day, one was to partner up, and the other was for an odd number of Pax.  Looks like the odd number would prevail….until the arrival of a totally unexpected visitor!  Welcome Reluctant Yankee!  The partner routine it is then!  YHC was so relieved to see other Pax that he may have overlooked the disclaimer, but pretty sure something was muttered about modifying as needed…..

    Warm Up

    SSH IC x 31
    Abe Vigodas IC x 5
Enough of that….we have a lot to get to!
Everyone grab a rock that can be used for Overhead Press and Curls.

    Stink B.O.M.B.S.

YHC had 5 cones set up in a large circle with approximately a 40 foot diameter, with a few cones marking the center. Partner up, and one Pax goes to an outside cone, while the partner goes to center cones. Lucky for YHC, the smart Pax were in attendance, so instructions remained minimal, and easily grasped. Working clockwise:
    Cone 1 – 100 Burprees
Cone 2 – 200 Overhead Presses with rock
    Cone 3 – 300 Merkins
    Cone 4 – 400 Big Boy Situps
    Cone 5 – 500 Squats
The exercises on the outside cones are cumulative. Timer is the Pax at the center cones doing 20 curls with rock and 20 LBC’s. Supplement the 20 curls with rows as needed. Once complete, swap with outside Pax and keep the beat down going.

    Times Up!

Count off, Name-O-rama, Intentions, and Close with a prayer to the Sky Q.

    Naked Man Moleskin
Neither team got past the Big Boy Situps before time expired. This routine may find its way back, but with a slight modification to make sure we can get through it. There was minimal mumble chatter during the beatdown, with good reason, as those Burpees, OH Presses and Merkins were a killer, especially when mixed in with LBC’s and Curls/Rows for the timer.

Thanks for posting with me today! The Uptowner is still a great opportunity to bring a beat down without running! But isn’t that what the 610 Stomp is for? Oh yeah, and WPM……if you’re into that sort of thing…..

  • Into the Brier Patch

“Some people want it to happen, some wish it would happen, others make it happen.”

    Michael Jordan

YHC arrived early enough to plant the shovel flag and to set up some cones for an Uptowner beatdown. It’s 0530, the disclaimer is given, so nothing holding us back now.
    Warmup
    SSH IC x 31
    Abe Vigodas IC x 10

Grab a medium large rock and set it by the cone nearest the Shovel flag. There are 4 cones set up in a baseball diamond configuration, each approximately 15 yards apart. Home plate is nearest the shovel flag.
Although YHC has improved his bear crawl ability, it’s not nearly good enough. If one wants to improve at something, one must do more of it!  Wanting and wishing won’t get us there, so let’s make it happen!
    Round one:
Bear crawl 15 yards to first cone:
    Merkins IC x 20 (4 count x 10)
Bear crawl 15 yards to second cone:
Catalina wine mixers IC x 10 (6 count)
Bear crawl 15 yards to third cone:
    10 Burpees OYO
Bear crawl 15 yards to home plate cone:
Grab the rock – Curls IC x 20

    Round two:
Bear crawl 15 yards to first cone:
    WW 2 Sit Ups IC x 20 (4 count x 10)
Bear crawl 15 yards to second cone:
    Tin snips IC x 20
Bear crawl 15 yards to third cone:
    10 Burpees OYO
Bear crawl 15 yards to home plate cone:
Grab the rock – OH Shoulder Press IC x 20

    Round three:
Bear crawl 15 yards to first cone:
Copper head squats IC x 20
Bear crawl 15 yards to second cone:
    Monkey Humpers IC x 20
Bear crawl 15 yards to third cone:
    10 Burpees OYO
Bear crawl 15 yards to home plate cone:
Grab the rock – Elf on the shelf IC x 10 left, IC x 10 right

Rinse and repeat all three rounds for a total of 6 rounds!

Upon completing the final Elf on the Shelf, just enough time for a little Mary!

    Freddie Mercury IC x 20
    Flutter Kicks IC x 20
    Hello Dolly IC x 20

Return the rocks to the pile.

COT for count off, name-o-rama, announcements, intentions, and closed it out with a prayer.
Stay safe with Nate coming through this weekend!
Thanks for posting this morning for a stroll through the brier patch!
    Moleskin
For those in the October ISI Challenge, each Pax completed 120 merkins with a whole lot of bear crawlin’! Well done!

  • Answering the Call

Shorty asked if anyone could cover his Q this week at Okwata, as he would be out of town.  YHC quickly answered the call and stepped up.  Late Wednesday, YHC issued a subliminal call to other Pax through Group Me, but who would answer the call?

YHC arrived at least 4 minutes early, planted the shovel flag and waited for the determined to arrive.  Surge was attempting to make Rudy aware of the classic movie “Little Big Man” but Rudy denied having any knowledge of it.  YHC took a mental note, maybe this classic will get added to a future beatdown.  As the clock turned to 0530, YHC called out the disclaimer, as the remaining few Pax filtered in.

    The thang

Mosey to the fountain, made a reverse circle around it, and ended on the patch of freshly cut grass just in front of it for:

    Warm up

SSH IC x 31…..there’s something about that number
Imperial Squat Walker IC x 15….nice and slow to get that deep squat!
    Abe Vigodas IC x 10

    StartEx #1

Jack Webb Double Shots at the Bar…an Okwata favorite!
Line up along the railing of the fountain.
One merkin followed by two air presses (double shot) in the peoples chair position at the barre.
    Two merkins….four shots..
    Three merkins….six shots…
    You get the idea….
Ten merkins…..twenty shots. Hold the peoples chair until all Pax completed.

YHC had a great Okwata partner beatdown in mind, but an odd number of Pax called for the back up plan. Since 11 is an odd number, and we have an odd number of Pax…..

    StartEx #2

Mosey to the levee near the HOP for 11’s.
Start with 10 burpees on the freshly cut grass of the Okwata side, run up and over the levee, and do 1 Jump Squat on the other side.
As we crossed the levee, we discovered the lawn crew was perhaps unaware of the existence of land on the south side of the levee.
The Pax finished with 1 burpee and 10 Jump Squats, and ended back on the evenly mowed grass.

With being so close to the HOP, let’s take advantage of it!

    StartEx #3

Three stations, three Pax in each station
Station one – Catalina Wine Mixers x 15 (Timer)
Station two – Pull ups (AMRAP)
Station three – Step Ups (AMRAP)
After an exhausting evolution, YHC called for a rinse and repeat!

Mosey back to the flag for a few minutes of Mary!
    All IC
    WW II Situps x 15
    Flutter Kicks x 15
    Hello Dolly x 15
    Freddie Mercury x 15

    COT

Count off, Name-O-Rama, announcements, intentions, and closed it out with a prayer to the Sky Q.

8 determined Pax answered the call and joined YHC in the gloom of Okwata.  Even Terabyte made the trek all the way from the outskirts of the world, a place some refer to as the “River Ridge.”  If you are reading this and you did not post at Lafitte’s Plunge or Okwata, then perhaps your Thursday morning was not as meaningful as it could have been.  But don’t fret, tomorrow is a new day with a new gloom, and next Thursday will be here before you know it.  Will you answer the call?

Thanks to the 8 Pax for answering the call and posting with me today.  SYITG!

  • Even Numbered Pax

As YHC planted the shovel flag at the AO, the Pax arrived, bringing the total at the Foundry to 6! Would there be stragglers? YHC was happy to have more show, but they would need to come in pairs, as we were fixin’ to have a partner beatdown!
At 0530, YHC gave the disclaimer…not a professional trainer….modify….this is a group of Veteran F3 Men, so all knew the drill. Unfortunately, no FNG’s.
    Mosey to the track….

SSH? Negative! As Shorty would say….That’s Pish Posh! Shorty? Shorty? Hmmmm……(hint hint…..or should it be BB(s)?)

    Bataan Death March
Traditional Indian Run on the track, only thing added is the last Pax drops for 5 Burpees and catches up with the other Pax to take his position in the front, tagging the last Pax as he passes. Continue until all Pax had the pleasure of 5 burpees.

COP – Johnny Cash (Ring of Fire)

Muster on the matted area inside the track and circle up.
Each Pax completes 5 merkins, then says next, sending the fire clockwise in the ring. All Pax hold plank position until YHC calls it, which was 3 revolutions.
Stay in Plank Position for Mountain Climbers IC x 20

    COP – Partners!
Stay on the matted area inside the track and partner up!
    Pax 1 – Leg throws x 15, then flapjack.
Once complete, mosey to the first corner of the track for Partner Derkins!
One Pax holds plank position while other Pax uses him as a prop for his own feet. Complete 10 Derkins, then flapjack.
Continue run around the track, stopping at each corner, four corners total, 40 derkins each. There was some mumble chatter until YHC called out….
Rinse and Repeat! This includes the leg throws and the partner derkins evolution around the track.
There was some more mumble chatter about which was worse toward the end, the plank with your partner weight, or the derkins? YHC was unable to choose, as they were equally painful, yet awesome!

COP – Johnny Cash (Ring of Fire)

Muster once again on the matted area inside the track and circle up.
Each Pax completes 5 monkey humpers, then says next, sending the fire clockwise in the ring. All Pax hold monkey humper position until YHC calls it, which was either 3 or 5 revolutions. The awkward stares from the runners on the track made YHC lose count….but still considered a success! One would hope there were no cameras directed upon us…..

    Mosey to the Foundry

    Three Stations, Partnered up.
    Station 1 – 10 Burpees (The timer)
Station 2 – Pull Ups (AMRAP)
Station 3 – Step Ups or Box Jumps – Each Pax gets to choose (AMRAP)
The Pax completed 2 revolutions, and it was time to mosey back to the flag.

At the Flag, Plank position for final minute….sudden change, time for Mary!
    LBC’s x 20
    Tin Snips x 15

Count off and Name-O-Rama. The Pax asked F3 Nation to keep Brady in their thoughts and prayers, to allow a quick recovery to those that have been impacted by hurricanes, and to ease the pain and bring comfort to those suffering from illness.

Thanks for posting with me today, and way to kill it in the gloom this morning!

  • A Stroll in the Park F3 Style

17 Pax committed to improving by posting at the Mothership on this humid first Saturday morning in September. YHC knows that men continue to post because of challenging beat downs, so YHC knew he had to continue the trend with a challenging, yet interesting Q. This was especially important this day with the Kotter post of Bagasse and Mr Awesome!
Once the men from the Bible Study arrived and planted the shovel flag, it was time! But first, the disclaimer……and then

    The Thang

Mosey to the Great Lawn and circle up for a warm up.
    SSH IC x 5….
The Pax questions only 5 SSH! If only Shorty had posted, YHC would have said, “Warmup? That’s Pish-Posh!”
    10 Burpees OYO
SSH IC x 5…..9 Burpees OYO
SSH IC x 5…..8 Burpees OYO
SSH IC x 5…..7 Burpees OYO
Mumble Chatter has ceased before it even started…..
SSH IC x 5…..6 Burpees OYO
SSH IC x 5…..5 Burpees OYO
SSH IC x 5…..4 Burpees OYO
SSH IC x 5…..3 Burpees OYO
SSH IC x 5…..2 Burpees OYO
SSH IC x 5…..10 Burpees OYO
    That’s 64 Burpees each! #Crowdpleaser! Well done Pax…..

Mosey to the side of the Great Lawn (short mosey) for some merkin ladders.
20 merkins one side, run across and do 19 merkins, back across for 18 merkins…..blah blah blah
Back across until ending with 1 merkin.
That’s 210 merkins each with a whole lot of running! Well done again Pax!

Mosey past NOMA and head towards Lagoon Number Seven, stopping on a patch of grass between the sidewalk of Lelong Drive and the walking/biking path. Many of the Pax were extremely confused during this mosey, and the mumble chatter started to emerge. YHC knew one way to shut that down….time to bring out the dreaded Dirty Mac Deuce!
4 Sets of 3 exercises, 12 x 4 count each. One Upper Body, One Lower Body, and One Core. Then run a lap.
    Set 1
Merkins, Imperial Squat Walker, Dying Cockroach
Run a lap on the side walks and walking/biking path bordering our patch of grass.
    Set 2
Tempo Merkins, Copperhead Squat, WW 2 Situps
    Run a lap
    Set 3
Side to side merkin, Squat Jacks, LBC
    Run a lap
    Set 4
Shoulder taps, Frog squats, Freddie Mercury’s
    Run a lap

Mosey to the well groomed lawn at NOMA for some Mary, all IC
Dr W….8 was enough of this 8 count pile of miscounting….but always a good one!
    Flutter Kicks x 10
    Hello Dolly x 10

Mosey back to the flag for count off, name-o-rama, announcements and a closing prayer.

Hawg is hosting a daily challenge throwdown to any Pax interested. Just ask to join the Iron Sharpens Iron Group Me and get started.
Da Parish is hosting a homebrew competition in “Da Parish” at 5 PM today, sounds like a great time! Check the Group Me app for details.
Keep SE Texas in your thoughts and prayers, and keep an eye out for opportunities to help. T-Claps to those that have already started helping.

YHC wanted to create a workout that would be challenging, but not boring. YHC would never push himself to do this sort of thing on his own. The Pax did 64 Burpees, 270 merkins, and over 3 miles of running according to mapmyrun. The coffeeteria F2 after the beatdown is always a great experience, YHC always looks forward to it!

Thanks for posting with me today, and thanks for allowing me to lead.

  • Okwata – A Cure for Medioctrity

36 PAX posted for the Gnarly Nutria, and YHC was among them. With the Uptowners barely getting edged out, there was much to celebrate. During the COT, YHC rolled out the welcome mat to any that might choose to join the F3 die hards that intended to gather in the gloom only a few hours later. Would there be any takers?
YHC wanted to fartsack to rest his weary legs that contributed to victory a few hours earlier when the alarm sounded. It was not easy to get up, but it happened.
As YHC pulled in to the AO, two Pax were waiting, and three more followed. YHC gave the disclaimer…..and then….

Mosey around the mardi gras fountain and gather on the grassy area for:

    Warm Up
SSH IC x 31 (cause that’s what we do)
    IW IC x 15
    Abe Vigodas IC x 10 (stretch…)
    Arm Circles IC x 10 forward x 10 back

Join Jack Webb for some double shots at the barre….
1 Merkin, then peoples chair against the fountain railing for two air presses (aka double shot)
    2 merkins, 4 air presses….
    ….
    10 merkins, 20 air presses
YHC was not ready to step up to Northshore Standards yet, but it’s coming….

    Mosey to the HOP
Six Pax, three stations, two Pax at each station.
Station 1 – Mosey up the levee, 5 burpees, mosey back (timer)
    Station 2 – Pullups AMRAP
Station 3 – Catalina Wine Mixers AMRAP
Clear instructions, right? Apparently not. It was a bit chaotic for two rounds, perhaps it was YHC’s lack of sleep (Not!)
By the third round we actually had 2 Pax per station….not sure how many burpees, so we’ll just say at 15 each, we banked 90!

Mosey up to the top of the levee and over to Canal for Four Corners:
Corner 1 – Catalina Wine Mixers IC x 10 – mosey to next corner
    Corner 2 – Bobby Hurley’s IC x 15 – mosey to next corner
    Corner 3 – Merkins IC x 20 – mosey to next corner
    Corner 4 – Lunges IC x 25 – mosey to first corner
Corner 1 – Partner up for leg throws x 15 each
So technically it was Five Corners….

Mosey to the circle of benches toward Landry’s.
    Each Pax claim a bench
    Box Jumps x 10 OYO
    Dips x 10 IC
LL Step Ups x 10 IC
RL Step Ups x 10 IC
    Rinse and Repeat twice more

Mosey back to the VSF for Count off, Name-o-rama, announcements, and a prayer during the BOM.

    Moleskin
T-Claps to Heisenberg for bringing an FNG. Welcome Wrecking Ball! T-Claps to Firestone for posting during his visit to NOLA from Charlotte.  YHC was dragging a little from running 5.5 miles a few hours earlier.
T-Claps to Cowbell for posting with YHC only a few short hours after the Gnarly Nutria, and for Da Parish and Milkman posting at the Plunge. YHC was tired and felt mediocre this morning, but Okwata cured that!
Lastly, YHC wishes Nip/Tuck a speedy recovery. Nip/Tuck has made the trek to Okwata many times, and we look forward to having him join us again.

    Thanks for Posting!

  • Summer Series Aquatic 2 Mile Run

With the last Summer Series event canceled due to weather, F3 Nation awaited the word from the NOTC on “weather or not” this event would take place.  The skies had opened for most of the day over City Park, so it could have gone either way.  The word came that it was a go, and there was much rejoicing!
Six Men of F3 converged upon City Park intent on taking the top six spots this day.  Unfortunately, the path had so much standing water that it could have qualified as a triathlon course.  During the race, YHC experienced a shoe failure that set me back to a 9:00 mile pace, as there was never any doubt that YHC had it locked up before that unfortunate mishap…..
Cowbell most likely ran an extra three or four miles to get around the standing water. He likes to keep his feet dry.
SOGO enjoyed running alongside his daughter for her first ever Summer Series event, so he gave up one of the top spots for a good cause.
Surely the top three trophies went to the other F3 PAX!
As always, the fun is at the finish line.
Roots slowly sipped a Grapefruit beer, attempting to pass it off to anyone that would take it, and all six of us enjoyed some great F2. Tool enjoyed some sort of vegetarian wanna be rice concoction with shrimp, courtesy of the Power Mile Club. Bad Moon and YHC were not as impressed with it, at least not when Jambalaya Girl is on site!
There’s one more Summer Series Event left, hope to see you guys there!

  • Taking the Plunge at Okwata – Rain or Shine!

As YHC headed out the door, the distinct sound of droplets of water hitting the ground could be heard. YHC thought this was surely the sprinklers, but nay, it was not. Who would enter the gloom on a day like this? One Pax sent a message via GroupMe that the Plunge would be where he was heading, after encountering the wet substance falling from the sky. At least he didn’t fartsack, so AO options on days like this are good. YHC had that terrifying thought of being a Pax of one. Who would inspire YHC to work harder, to push the limits? As YHC crossed the levee, parked cars at the AO were in sight, and more followed after parking. A total of six Pax chose to take the plunge at Okwata, proving that F3 men post in the gloom rain or shine!
It was 0530, the Shovel Flag was marking the AO, and Old Glory was waving victoriously in the breeze. Time for the disclaimer…..and then….

    The Thang:

Mosey to the mardi gras fountain, and complete the circle around, as is tradition at Okwata. With the normal spot for warm up being saturated from the rain, YHC sought to move to the other side of Lake Shore Drive, but was distracted by the deep puddles of water between the two spots. With that, the Pax lined up in front of the fountain for the warm up:

SSH IC x 31 – That’s just what we do
    Hillbilly’s IC x 15
Abe Vigodas IC x 10 (Hamstring getting better, thanks to the foam roller and lacrosse ball)

Enough warmup, time to hit the levee. The shortest route from point A to point B is a straight line, so YHC took that route to the levee.
    11’s on the levee
Instructions were to do 10 monkey humpers lake side, and one Burpee on the back side of the levee. There was mumble chatter about wanting to start with one monkey humper and work up, while starting at 10 burpees and working down the ladder. YHC refused to give in to such nonsense! With that said….
One Monkey Humper lake side (not sure what happened here)…10 burpees back side. Keep going until 10 monkey humpers lake side and 1 burpee back side. Run back to lake side and plank and wait for the six. That was 330 Burpees banked for Cadre Danny!

Move to the IHOP (Innovative House of Pain).

    Three stations:
Run to top of levee, 5 plank jacks, and return (timer)
    Dips AMRAP
    Step ups AMRAP
YHC was disappointed with the large puddles of H2O directly under the pull up bars, so a repeat wasn’t warranted. Time to move on to the next thang….

Mosey to the corner of Canal and Lake Shore Drive for Four Corners, which all were done together and IC:
Corner one: Catalina Wine Mixers x 10
Over the levee to Corner two: Monkey Humpers x 20
Across Canal to corner three: Merkins x 30
Over the levee to corner four: Squats x 40
That was so much fun, a rinse and repeat was in order!
Upon finishing the repeat, YHC saw three minutes remained. Mosey to the flag for a couple minutes of Mary!
    Flutter kicks IC x 20
    Hello Dolly IC x 20
    Tin Snips IC x 10

Count off, name-o-rama, announcements, intentions and closed with a prayer.

    Moleskin:
YHC was thrilled to see the rain did not inhibit the regulars from posting to Okwata. The rain did not last long, and the cool weather that followed it was welcomed. Thanks for posting with me today!

  • 610 Stomp #96 – Full of Respect

YHC arrived at the AO to find four eager Pax with only a minute to spare, but with a shovel flag in hand.  With the AO properly marked, it was time to give the disclaimer…..and then instructions…

Run the regular route and be back at the track for 0600.  Seeing this was a running AO, the passing of Cheech came up.  YHC saw the Pax be more cautious of traffic, alerting each other of vehicles approaching.  We made it to Orleans Avenue, crossed the bayou, and started the return trip. While preparing to cross Wisner Blvd, where Beauregard previously guarded the entry to City Park, a car ran a red light where the Pax had the right away to cross.  Would the car have stopped if we crossed?  Distracted drivers can be a real threat to a runner, and we must stay aware and look out for one another.
Upon arrival at the track, we executed some LBC’s while waiting for the six, then went right into the Rudy special….Sprints! Three laps, sprint the straightaways and mosey the corners. Hey look, we have time to bank some burpees for Cadre Danny! 10 Burpees OYO! Times up, let’s mosey to the flag.

Count off, name-o-rama – where Tool and I discovered the other three Pax were Respect. So, with the Pax posting today being more than 50 percent Respect, YHC calls that Full of Respect!
Announcements and a prayer to the Sky Q, thankful for the day, and asking for guidance to make the most of it.

    Thanks for posting!

YHC intends to invest in some high visibility gear to mitigate the risk of incident caused by distracted drivers while running in the gloom. Hawg also posted some good information on the GroupMe app for identification purposes in the event that worse case scenario becomes a reality.
