  • Duck Hunting 101

YHC has always joked that he does F3 to he can be in shape for duck season, among MANY other reasons. Duck hunting on public land in the Mississippi Delta is a very physically demanding hobby and for some strange reason I absolutely love it. Waking up at 2am to wade through waste deep water in 20 degrees just sounds fun, right??

Well, YHC wanted the Gipper pax to learn a thing or two about the prep that goes into a morning of duck hunting, sans water and 20 degrees.

Disclaimer was given and PAX was instructed to grab some gear from the camp (cinder block). Each block was to account for all of the gear needed on a hunt.

    COP #1- Warm Up:

    10 Burpees OYO

    20 X SSH

    10 X Good Mornings

    10 F/B X Arm Circles

    20 X J Lo’s

    10 L/R X Nolan Ryan’s (on crushed gravel!)

Now we need to load up the truck: 10 L/R X Elf on a Shelf with block

Mosey to the courthouse walkway (boat launch) at a brisk pace as we need to beat all other hunting parties to the duck hole!

Load the boat: split into 2 lines with blocks at the end of each line. Pass block down to the end of the line, and back down. R&R X3.

The boat is launched, now we need to drive as far as we can in the timber…quick mosey to the parking garage entrance and ramp. Leave your gear while we go search for a good spot to set up: Run up the ramp and complete 10 burpees on one side and 10 merks on the other side all the way to the top. Repeat.

We found a prime duck hole at the top of the garage!! grab your gear and meet there.

Now its time to throw out the decoys, we brought 3 dozen this trip..

    Block swings X 12, R&R X3.

Now its time to actually hunt, so we need to practice raising the gun to our shoulder: Chest press X 10, R&R X3.

We shot a few ducks but ran out of time to pick them up!

Carry your gear back to the camp.

Count, Name, and Grundy took us out with a prayer.

Thank you all for hunting with me and appeasing me!

  • Back to the Basics

YHC signed up to Q long before knowing Tuesdays would become interval running days. The solution was simple, no running and do some quality exercises, Tabata style.

    COP #1) Warm Up

    20 X SSH, 20 Jlo’s, 10 X PP, 10 X PP, 20, Mtn Climbers, Arm Circles, 10 X LSS

Mosey back to the stage area for little activity: Everyone take off your shirt and put it on the ground in front of you. Now get in balls to the wall stance and try to put your shirt on. I think we got close to 100% completion!

COP #2) Tabata (10 Rounds, 1 min work, 15 sec rest)

    8. Serratus Merkins

We still had some time left so we started another round of Tabata to stretch out, something we all admitted we could use more of.

  • 1 Mile Time Trial

Writing this in a hurry, so i’ll keep it short and sweet.

9 pax gathered this beautiful gloom for the first 1 mile time trail. YHC has had this on his mind for a long time to set a baseline for himself as well as the rest of the pax.

We started with some running stretches, including Jose’s favorite high jump skips. The PAX then did an easy 1ish mile run to the starting line on Carondelet and Jefferson. Bushwacker immediately took off on his mile like a bat out of hell, he sorta looked like Eliud Kipchoge, right Akbar!?! While the rest of the pax took a breather and listened to the Q for the countdown..

We took off and ran 1 mile down Jefferson St and finished at the corner of Lamarque.

    Finishing times were as follows:

    Steve 5:53

    Cowbell 5:53

    Waterpik 6:00

    Bushwacker 6:36

    Goose 6:55

    Speedy 7:30

    Akbar 7:50

    PixieStix 9:00

    Jose 10k 9:30

We finished with an easy 2ish mile run back to the AO.

    Jose prayed us out.

Looking forward to seeing the progress the pax makes at the next time trial.

As always, thanks for letting me lead!!

  • The Quick Killer

After missing 2 Q’s last week (1 was excused), YHC was up to Q again and HAD to make it, tropical storm or not…

Surprisingly, the rain had stopped after a full 24 hour downpour. There was no excuse now! YHC showed up 2 minutes late due to a downed tree covering Lamarque St. The Pax of 3 had already started a warm up.

YHC jumped in and it went a little something like this…

    COP #1 – Warm up

    Hillbillies X 20, Good Mornings X 10, Mtn Climbers X 20, J-Lo’s X 10, Arm Circles X 12 (6F/6B)

COP #2- The Thang -YHC had expected rain so planned a stationary workout under the covering on the basketball court.

    5 Rounds – 33 reps, 27 reps, 21 reps, 15 reps, 9 reps

5 exercises – Merkins, Squats, Sister Mary Catherines, Burpees, Big Boi Sit ups

Complete all 5 exercises, 33 reps each, move to round 2, 27 reps each, etc.

The Pax was unusually quiet, @Bird tried to get a little small talk going but it was short-lived.

COP #3 – Pull Up Circle

Pax 1 completes 5 pull ups while rest of pax did an exercise

3 rounds (plank, LBC, American Hammer)

    COP #4 – 6MOM (round robin) all x 20 IC

  • A very thankful 4 years of F3

YHC was greeted this beautiful anniversary gloom by 11 PAX waiting to celebrate an F3 anniversary the right way, with a beatdown of course.

While planning this beatdown, YHC started thinking how grateful he is of F3, Shorty EH’ing him hard to “just come out and see.” I’ll be forever thankful for the men (and Rudy) of F3 NOLA, and for the Northshore guys for taking a rival brother in like their own. You all are one of a kind!!

The workout went something like this:

COP: Warm Up: All IC X 20

    Grass Grabbers, Hillbillies, SSH, Windmills

Mosey to the Justice center doing butt kicks and high knees en route. Arrive at Justice Center parking lot for some ‘Bone the Fish.’

Left shuffle to one side, run forward, right shuffle back, back pedal to start

Left Karaoke to one side, run forward, right karaoke back, back pedal

Mosey to the top of the parking garage for 11’s (in honor of my favorite AO, Wolfpack Mountain)

Burpees at the top of the mountain starting at 10, run down the ramp and do 1 merkin, descend burps and ascend merks until 1 burpee and 10 merkins.

Because the breeze felt so nice, YHC decided to stay at the top of the garage for: Quarter Pounder: Each set of light posts represented 25 yds.

Sprint 25 yds, 25 merkins, run backwards to start

Sprint 50 yds, 50 squats, run backwards to start

Sprint 75 yds, 75 LBC’s, run backwards to start

Sprint 100 yds, 100 SSH’s, run backwards to start

YHC REALLY wanted to make it a double quarter pounder but time would not allow, maybe next time.

    COP/ 6MOM: Hurricane Hoedown:

4 variations of flutter kicks, meant to start at 7 reps each and work down to 1, but again, time messed us up so we started at 5 reps each.

Hands up flutter kicks X 5, hands behind back flutter kicks X 5, lean back flutter kicks X 5, regular flutter kicks X 5

    Repeat X 4, repeat X 3, repeat X 2, repeat X 1

Mosey back to the flag one minute late (sorry not sorry), where Grundy was waiting on us, apparently he went running with someone else? rude.

F3 NOLA 5 Year Convergence this Saturday in City Park, 0630, Coffee, Beignets, breakfast to follow. 3 mile pre thang 0600.

Northshore F2, Thursday October 17 at Barley Oak, 0600, 30 minute beatdown led by YHC with drinks to follow.

    Bean prayed us out.

Thanks for letting me lead, and thanks for everything, F3.

    Heres to many, many more!

  • F2 Brown Chicken Brown

YHC was eager to get his Northshore VQ under his belt and thought what better way than to get a little F2 in afterwards. The plan was to have a 30 minute beatdown and head over to The Beach House for drinks and food.

A pax of 8 showed up ready to have a leisurely light work out on the Mandeville Lakefront at 0600. Boy were they mistaken. YHC spent countless hours trying to figure out how to cram 1 hour worth of workout into a short 30 min. This is what went down…

Thanks for letting me lead and taking me in on the more spacious side of the lake!!

  • 610 Stomp- A little change of pace

4 vets, 1 FNG, and 2 flags is how this gloomy Tuesday started.

YHC wanted to shake things up a bit, to break the normal routine of the down the bayou and back run.

    The Thang:
Run 3 loops on the road that circles the track and meet at the entrance to the track at 6:00.
    Roughly 1 mile per loop.
The idea was to take it easy on the run as to still have some energy for sprint work.
YHC learned that is impossible when running next to Mahatma! Thanks for the push!

    Sprint waterfall:
    Sprint 100M
    Recover Jog 100M
    Sprint 200M
    Recover Jog 200M
    Sprint 300M
    Recover Jog 300M
    Sprint 400M
    Recover Jog 400M

The idea was to go back down, 300, 200, 100 but time did not allow us.

COT: Count off, name o rama where we named Nemo (Welcome Nemo), announcements and prayer.

    Thanks for letting me lead!
